If you are a fan of whimsical woodland critters trying to solve problems, this is the book for you.
In the picture book Argyle Fox, a little fox lives with his family in their tree in the middle of a pine forest. One really windy day, the little fox decides he wants to play outside but the wind keeps blowing his toys away. He keeps HARUMPHING and getting frustrated (as foxes are apt to do). Finally, after some thinking, he comes up with a solution.
This was a cute story about overcoming obstacles and finding solutions. I recommend this for pre-school through elementary aged kids.
Poor little Argyle Fox just wants to play but the pesky wind keeps messing him up!!! Eventually after thinking in through he figures out the perfect thing to play with on a windy day!
Cute relatable little book with beautifully done illustrations. I think many young readers and listeners will enjoy the cast of animals characters.
I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
Argyle Fox is determined to play outside, but every time he gets stuck into his game, the wind blows strongly and disrupts his play. After stomping home in a huff, he is encouraged to find a way to work WITH the wind, not against it, and after a lot of thought comes up with a Secret Plan.
This was a sweet read about overcoming adversity and working out what you CAN do, rather than what you can't.

Argyle Fox just wants to play, but the wind keeps ruining his plans! He makes a house of cards, but it blows away. He tries to play soccer, but the ball gets stuck in a tree. Everything seems to be going wrong until his mom encourages him to think about a toy that will work in the wind.
This book is an absolute gem! It could be used as a way to teach the weather, feelings, problem-solving, and more! Not to mention, readers of all ages will love the adorable artwork. Definitely a 5 star read!
Argyle Fox wants to play outside, but it’s such a windy day, none of his normal activities hold up to the weather. His house of cards blows away. His spider costume gets caught up in his homemade web. His soccer ball gets blown up into a tree, and his box castle gets swept up, too. He gives up and goes home, but his mother encourages him to get creative. There must be something fun he can play outside. Argyle thinks and plans and crafts, and with a little time and hard work, he finds that flying a kite is the perfect activity for a windy day! He even makes extra kites so his friends can play, too.
This is a cute, little sprintime book that encourages creativy, craftiness, and imaginative play. Plus, a kite is a relatively simple craft, and this story can encourage your own little ones to make kites of their own for windy days. I love the art, and I could definitely live in a tree in the mountains near a stream with a treehouse bed. That sounds pretty cozy to me.
This one’s out now, so you can use it for the rest of spring (and all temperate times of the year).
I received an electronic copy from Tanglewood Publishing through NetGalley.
Delightful story about Argyle's adventures playing on a windy day. Everything he tries to play is blown away by the wind. He keeps trying with no success so he gathers his toys and brings them home. His mom challenges him to think about a toy that will work in the wind. He thinks and thinks and finally comes up with something he can play with in the wind. He uses materials he has and makes a kite. Plenty of fun ensues.
Clever illustrations provide support for the text. Young readers will enjoy exploring the pictures.
Message of perseverance and creativity.
A sweet story about Argyle Fox who keeps trying to play outside but the wind keeps destroying his fun until he realises the perfect toy to play with...
Children will love the simple repetition of this book, the sound effects, and the happy ending when Argyle Fox realises the solution to his problem. Beautiful drawn with lots of lovely forest creatures to meet.
"Argyle Fox" by Marie Letourneau is the perfect book for a spunky creative kid! This book focuses on Argyle, a young fox wanting to play outside in the windy weather. He struggles to find a good activity with the constant disruption of gusts of wind. The book uses repetition to get the kids engaged and does a great job of building interest in the story line.
My children and I enjoyed the pictures and all of the woodland creatures that are featured throughout the story. The only issue that I found within the book was that the main character, Argyle, comes across as a little bratty at times. His reaction to certain situations is overblown and can be considered somewhat rude. Other than this, we loved the book. Argyle is such a cute name for the main character, I just wish he would have been a little more polite which would have made the story more endearing.
Argyle Fox by Marie Letourneau is a adorable story about an imaginative fox that must problem solve about what's best to play on a windy day. This is a great book for a read-aloud in a classroom or library, with lots of opportunities for sound, movement, and discussions about critical thinking, weather, and perseverance. The illustrations are so whimsical and really help bring the story to life! Great detail and creativity.
The only negative I'd mention is the attitude presented. All the people kept telling Argyle Fox that he couldn't and shouldn't do each game he attempted, which was a little heavy handed and felt like a plethora of "I told you so" moments. It does contrast with his persistence, but a better moral could be included to NOT try to squash other people's ideas.
Thank you Tanglewood Publishing and NetGalley for this free copy in return for an honest review.
Ada and Mummy loved reading this book. It is a great story about thinking through problems, finding and answer and having fun. It was great to see him stick with it and find something to do in a time he thought he there was nothing. Ada loved the story and the illustration. This is a lovely little book and one we recommend.
Do you like this book?
Yeah because I just love foxes and playing pretend!
What's your favorite part of the book?
When he dresses like a spider and makes a web! And when he tries to make a card house.
What do you think of the cover?
I like it because of the bird flying upside down and the cute fox!
Okay so foxes are my all time favorite animal. I saw this and I just HAD to read it.
Argyle Fox is an adorable fox with lots of imagination. He just wants to play outside with his toys but it's just way too windy. He tries everything and eventually gives up. His mom suggests that he uses his imagination and that he doesn't give up. He finally finds a solution to his problem! And to his friends problems.
The artwork is absolutely adorable. Those colors are amazing. And the story about finding a solution and not giving up is great.
So absolutely precious! The writing style and the illustrations kept my step children intrigued throughout this fun story of a fox trying to find something to do on a windy day. I liked the persistence that Argyle showed, and in the end he not only found something for himself, but for others too! I'm a huge fan of foxes, and will gladly share this with friends and family!
Thank you Tanglewood Publishing and NetGalley for this free advance copy in return for an honest review. A cute bedtime book to read to your children or grandchildren. Argyle Fox is bored and wants to go outside to play. Despite his mother and neighbors telling him he it is too windy to play he challenges the wind, and every time he does so WOOSH, the wind comes and he is unable to play what he had wanted to. He seems defeated until he figures out what he can play with to take advantage of the wind and is successful. A good book, a good lesson and colorful illustrations. I liked this book quite a lot!
This was a cute story to add to my nature playgroup circle time rotation. The clever fox figures out how to work with the wind instead of against it.
This is an adorable little book and teaches that failing at things is okay and to just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going. I also like that I can use this book for a spring storytime and we can talk and learn about the wind and what it does to things.
I thought the illustrations were really nice but that wind must have been really strong for disrupting some of those games, strong enough to pick him up with it, and would probably have been too strong for that last game they thought appropriate for it.
Argyle cursed at the wind a bit too much, and didn't react too well when told the games may not work. I also think the others shouldn't have told him he coudn't play like that but his attitude also wasn't the best.
May be worth reading for a small child, the story is cute and fun, but I wouldn't consider it educational.
Cute cute CUTE. The character design is adorable, and the story also adorable. The wind keeps ruining the argyle fox's fun outside...Could there be something...that's made to be played with on a windy day? Hmm...
First I have to say that these illustrations are fantastic. I felt completely drawn into Argyle's world and wanted to go play with him. There's just so much warmth and nostalgia in them.
And I love Argyle. He is spunky and stubborn, with endless creativity. He is determined to play outside in the wind and to defy the wind that keeps ruining his plans. You can feel his frustration every time he is defeated. And then you cannot help but admire how he goes back home and looks for something else to try outside. Especially in an age where kids are glued to electronics, I love seeing a kid who is resourceful and unplugged.
Even better is when he goes home once again, feeling completely defeated about his misfortune thus far. Instead of solving his problem for him, Argyle's mother encourages him to think about possible solutions to it. It does take him a while, but he goes through his belongings and digs deep into that creative mind of his and finally comes up an activity that will work with the wind.
I would totally keep a copy of this book in my classroom and hope that the kids I read it to were inspired to come up with their own creative ideas. I love it and would love to see more adventures with Argyle in the future!
Thank you to Tanglewood Press and NetGalley for a review copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is also being submitted to Amazon and Barnes and Noble, as well as already on my blog and Goodreads.
This is an absolutely beautiful book with a delightful story and the most charming illustrations.
I teach English as a foreign language, and for my littlest students that involves lots of storytelling and activities around the themes of the story. I can see this adorable tale quickly becoming a firm favourite. Argyle Fox's creativity is a great message for little ones, and parents, teachers and kids will have lots of fun mimicking him. I support the message of finding your own fun, making your own entertainment, and letting kids get bored because that is when their imaginations will wake up - no screen time for us!!
I had the chance to read a preview copy of the book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, and I will be keeping an eye out for this one when it comes out!!
This is such a cute book! The illustrations are just adorable, and the story tells us to never give up!
