This is a beneficial workbook for teens as well as adults with ADHD. The exercises are very helpful and cover many issues. The only reason why I did not get it for my library is because it is a workbook but I would recommend it to any parent who has an adolescent with ADHD. I bought one for my son although it was difficult to get him to write in it.
This book helped me throughout my master's degree studies. It was very helpful! There were a lot of tips which I was able to use in my clinical practice. Great resource!
A thorough and thoughtful book, that offers comprehensive advice for parents and teenagers dealing with ADHD. Well written, and informative, this book is a great resource and should be on the shelf of every parent who deals with this issue.
Hmm, I was very intrigued by Debra Burdick's introductory letter to parents' of teens with ADHD; 'you can help them use it and encourage them to stay on track...you may review each activity with them...ask them how or when they will do an activity...remind them to schedule it on their calendar app.' I have two teenage sons with ADHD; both are good boys, aware of their condition and that they need to manage it to lead fulfilling lives, but...as a parent, pinning them down to study mindfulness, no matter how well written, how well constructed, how targeted to their individual attention spans...not possible for me, in fact nigh on impossible. As an adult with ADHD myself, I am aware of the benefits of mindfulness activities, and also that mindfulness can take many forms, so I will guide them in this direction where I can, perhaps even be a bit sneaky about including exercises from this book in their day - but targeted exercises at present, no chance.
That said, managing ADHD is, and always will be, more of a working towards, than an achieved state, and as books go, this is very well written and constructed for the teen mind - as well as for the adult with ADHD who also is also a 'working towards'!
A good book to have in your library ready to seize that moment when it arrives!
It was a great read. It was great to see a book about ADD/ADHD that uses words and explanations that are on the same level as the teenagers who would read the novel - as they would be able to understand how their brain works and how to help it. Teenagers would definitely liked to write in the spaces provided about how they felt about themselves and their disorder.
Interesting read. Wonderfully written! Highly recommended :)
This book starts with three letters, one each to teens, parents, and professionals. It is just as the title say’s, it is a workbook to help teens with ADHD to be mindful in all areas of their lives. I honestly think that it is a wonderful workbook for any tween and teen, not just those with ADD/ ADHD, but for any tween and teen to help them keep on task. This book talks on many ways of organizing life that many tween and teen's don't have as they grow into adulthood because schools don’t teach it, and most adults do not have the time honestly( which is sad but true) My daughter is ADHD and I could see her wanting to do this on her own honestly because she wants to control herself but does not know how. I am going to work with her this summer through this book so when she goes into 6th this fall she can go in with a clear mind and ready for what is to come.
I found this to be somewhat helpful in working through some focusing issues. I liked the tasks/workbook pages.
I am concerned that my daughter may struggle through some of these issues once she starts school, so I believe this would be an excellent tool to help me work through that with her.
This book starts with three letters, one each to teens, parents, and professionals. It is just as the title suggests, a workbook to help teens with ADHD to be mindful in all aspects of their lives. I honestly think that it is a wonderful workbook for any teen, not just those with ADHD. It is logical and touches on many aspects of organizing life that many don't have as they grow to adulthood. My only reservation about this workbook is that many an ADHD teen wouldn't pick this up on their own and do all these exercises because of their lack of mindfulness. :D I can't wait to use this to help my daughter along.
The introduction to this book was very interesting to read as Debra wrote letters to three sets of people: Teens with ADHD, Parents of teens with ADHD and Professionals. I found it very instructive as she took the time to explain how the activities in the book can be exercised and applied.
As the title implies, it is a book about showing teens with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) how to learn and practice mindfulness. There are quite a number of exercises for readers to do. Audio versions of processes are also provided in the book and I think this is really handy.
There also stories and examples of teens who tackled certain challenges they had with ADHD and how they pulled through.

Favourite Quote: “Brain research shows us that our brains have the ability to change. This ability is called neuroplasticity. You can change your brain’s ability to pay attention by practicing various mindfulness skills.”
