Cheater was a funny rom com story. It had many tropes in one namely forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, office romance, friends to lovers, fake dating. I enjoyed the fun back and forth banter between I had issues with the plot. I felt like the hero was a bit all over the place, his actions past and present were a bit immature. Overall I liked it and give it 3 stars.

4.5 Stars-Pure Rachel Van Dyken!

There is something about the way this girl writes that gets me every stinking time. I am a huge fan of Rachel Van Dyken's witty banter between her characters. Whether they are young mafia bosses, rock stars or cheaters, they know how to break up the tension with a one liner or flip of the bird. Lucas Thorn and Avery Black are no exception.

"Lucas Thorn was a sickness. A darkness that never left. He was a rutting bastard. He was still-unfortunately-gorgeous."

Like Avery, I tended to feel the same way about Mr. Lucas Thorn throughout this entire book. The blurb says it all, he's a cheater and that was hard for me to look past. Especailly since he was now working with "the sister." Honestly, the whole premise of this book was a bitter pill to swallow, however Rachel Van Dyken did her best to make it easier. And extremely funny.

While reading I kept thinking that little Avery could do so much better, why in the world would anybody keep pinning for a man like Lucas Thorn? A man that actually has a schedule for his women? In my world, I wouldn't waste one emotion or second of my time on this guy. In my book world, I enjoy angst and got a mountain of it with these two, along with some entertainment and sexy time.

The book is well written and if you didn't guess already, very funny. Avery gives it to this cheater pretty good, in more ways than one. Try as I might, I didn't hate Lucas, however wasn't a big fan when it was all said and done. We met Lucas's best friend Thatch along the way and his book is next. Hopefully we get to peek in on Lucas and Avery as well.

I'm unsure why I requested this novel when I've never been a fan of the cheating trope, and after reading many, many reviews since downloading, I can say that I'm not interested in giving it a chance. I did flick through the pages, to see if that could change my mind, but nope, the writing failed to draw me in and entice me in to giving it a chance.

I unfortunately was not able to read this book. I was excited when ever I had chosen to download or pick this book up on Netgalley. However, time moves by so quickly and I never got to read it.

I liked this one! It wasn't what I was expecting and I think that's what made me like it! I'll definitely be looking at more work by Rachel Van Dyken!

I usually love Rachel Van Dyken books but I found this title a bit off-putting and I disliked both characters and ended up skimming much of it.

My Thoughts:
Rachel Van Dyken is one of my favorite authors. I'm making it a goal of mine this year to catch up on all of her books (and a few other of my favorite authors) that I've missed out on over the last few years. For some reason, I really fell behind on reading my favorite authors' books. I decided to start listening to the first book in the Curious Liaison's duology, Cheater. After finishing the book, I have mixed emotions.

I don't read other reviews until I finish typing mine, so I'm not sure if I'm in the minority on this, but I found Cheater to be very problematic. I didn't really have an issue with the "cheating" because in a round about way, it wasn't cheating. There were a few things that I did have an issue with. First and foremost, there was a lot of the female main character, Avery, hitting and slapping, the male main character, Lucas very hard. Instead of being addressed as abusive behavior, it was just brushed off, or Lucas chuckled about it. Men being abused by women is a real thing that happens everyday, and the way the author treated the slapping and hitting in this book almost like it was cute was not okay with me.

The other thing that I found to be problematic in Cheater was a specific scene in the wine cellar. I don't want to get into to much detail because I don't want to spoil things for those that want to read the book, but there's a scene of dubious consent that really made me cringe. Lucas kisses Avery without her permission. She is obviously very upset about this, and Lucas just laughs off the fact that she's upset like it's no big deal.I know it's just kissing, but consent is consent, and I think he should have dealt with her feelings in a better way instead of just brushing them off like it didn't matter. It really upset me that the author chose to handle the situation that way.

Usually I love Rachel Van Dyken's books, but I found Cheater to be very problematic. There were parts that I enjoyed. I did like the humor that was throughout the book, especially the scene at the gynecologist's office. I also liked the side characters, Austin and Thatch, a lot. I am excited to read their book. However, for me, this book was more cringe worthy than enjoyable. Hopefully the second book, Cheater's Regret, fixes those issues so it can be a more enjoyable read.

I give Cheater: 3/5.

This book was awesome, I haven't found a book by Rachel Van Dyken that I haven't liked so far. Cheater was so good, second chance romance, jealousy. A little bit of enemies to lovers what more could you ask for. It was a great quick read. There were some super funny parts that had me laughing out loud.

I didn't think this book was going to be for me however after finding myself at a loose end one evening I started it and was pleasantly surprised. The easy writing style drew me in and I finished this book within a few days. Although I enjoyed it I found the storyline a little clunky and unrealistic however the twists and turns of the story made up for this. I would recommend this to friends after an easy read.

Rachel Van Dyken you rock!! I have to say I love how she can be imaginative, talented and oh so funny when it comes to her men. Lucas Thorn is a man who by all counts knows he is spiraling to a dark path in his life but enjoys it whenever he can. Avery Black is the perfect woman to kick him back in the ass and be the man he is really destined to be. Together these two are hilarious and in some ways is like a modern Ricky Ricardo and Lucy with the way they interact in this book. I laughed all the way when they are together and there is food involved lol. Rachel Van Dyken shows us that there is more to just being a cheater and Lucas Thorn is one hot bad boy who has a lot of regrets, shame and just full of sexiness he needs to come to grips with before he looses his only chance at love. I loved it cannot wait to see what Rachel has in store for his best friend, Thatch.

Do y'all know that feeling, where you're sitting, sighing, swooning and daydreaming over your next-door neighbor or the popular, hot guy at school?? You do, good, because that's have I feel after having read this book! *Sigh*

I loved the way Lucas and Avery circled around each other. The lust between them wasn't just simmering - no, it was downright boiling and it was creating this intense sexual chemistry.
I'll admit that I was a little hesitant on reading this book, because of its title and now I'm just mad at myself for not reading it sooner - I found myself devouring this book, their story - simply consumed by their budding relationship.

Beside being so smitten by this couple, I haven't laughed so much as I did, while reading Cheater, in a long time. The storyline was just so funny and entertaining, the characters were charming as hell and it was just such an amazing book.

Differently need to add a few more of Rachel's books to my TBR - love her writing in this one and can only imagine how her other books/stories are :) 5 stars from here <3

Cheater was a fun read. Lucas and Avery were so cute together! I loved how they had a past, a rocky past, and how they both tried to stay away now that they were thrown together again. It was fun!

Avery hates Lucas Thorn. Or she does now. She used to be good friends with him, looked up to him, had a crush on him, but that was all before he proposed to her sister then cheated on her the night before the wedding. It ruined their families and they are still not over it. When Avery shows up for her first day of her new job she is not expecting to be working for the same devil himself, Lucas Thorn. She wasn't expecting so much. Like how she is still attracted to him, not like she would ever do anything about that. Besides he has changed. And she hates him, right?

Lucas Thorn messed up. He knows it, he knew it that fateful night, but he couldn't help himself. He tried to make it right afterward, but no one would listen to him or want to have anything to do with him so now he embarrasses the bachelor life. He doesn't need or want a monogamous relationship. He can't trust himself to not mess it up like he did last time. What if he would just cheat again? He doesn't want to hurt anyone so he just keeps a woman for every day of the week (except Sunday). They all know the score, they know they get one day a week until they don't want to anymore then no hard feelings. They are fine with it as Lucas Thorn is pretty amazing. Sure sometimes they want more, but it is never in the cards.

When Lucas sees Avery again all those issues from so long ago come rushing back. He is still drawn to her, but he can't do anything about it. Their parents used to be good friends, but now they barely even wave hello to each other. He can't mess it up again. Only...he can't seem to stay away. And now he doesn't seem to want his usual ladies...but what are they to do? She hates him and is not afraid to tell him how she feels whenever he is around. These two were fun. I loved how much grief Avery would give him and how the way to her heart was great food. I loved how he would show up with Pad Thai and she couldn't help herself - she wanted to eat it even if it meant spending more time with the devil. These two were fun. Their back and forth was awesome. And watching them come together again was so entertaining. I loved them together.

Now overall I really enjoyed this story. One thing did bug me though - besides that first time years ago Lucas never cheated. Current day Lucas was not a cheater. He never stepped outside the agreed upon parameters of his relationships with the women he slept with. So he didn't cheat. And everyone besides him and his ladies kept harping on it which did get a tad frustrating. His best friend, Avery, everyone would mention again and again how he cheats all the time....but he doesn't. There was even a scene where two of his ladies came over to say hi to him while he was out with Avery and he kisses both of them and Avery thinks how can girl one stand to have him cheating on her right in front of her? I just thought because he is not cheating? If everyone is okay with the situation he is not cheating. He is just dating/sleeping with a lot of women on a set schedule. So it got brought up often enough that it was a bit annoying but didn't take away from the story overall. Overall it was a lot of fun.

THIS BOOK! i have read every book by Rachel, but this one definitely has won #1 in my heart. The book is not at all what you expect from just seeing the title. It is funny, sweet, even romantic.

**SPOILERS**

Lucas Thorn... *swoon* everyone loves him, but he loves no one... or does he?

I loved how he was dating so many girls, because he thought of himself as a cheater, when in fact it was because his heart belonged to a girl from his past. Now she is back in his life and the other girls in his life start to drop like flies.

This was not a typical love story, but in its own way it was romantic. This is a book I will definitely read again.
