Never thought I'd be ok with a book that had cheating on it, but Rachel Van Dyken not only made it happen but I actually loved this book!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Yes the story was predictable but I loved the banter between Lucas and Kayla. It was laugh out loud funny. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Skyscape and Two Lions, and Rachel Van Dyken for the opportunity to read and review "Cheater".

This book had me confused, on one side it had lots of banter and lots of hot chemistry then on the other side you have the sister story line. This book was not for me but it is a well written story, I just couldn’t get over the sister story line to enjoy the book properly.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book

Highly recommended

Predictable but likeable (although a little frustrating at times!). Lucas did remind me a little of Mr Gray at times but with less creepyness and a little more tender moments. An easy read.

I was drawn in to Cheater by Rachel Van Dyken from the moment I started reading. The story centers on Lucas, ten years older, and Avery. Lucas was going to marry Avery’s sister 4 years before but made a terrible mistake. Years later, Lucas doesn’t just date one girl but has a girl for each day, taking a break on Sunday of course. Avery and Lucas cross paths and are thrown into each other’s life again.

Lucas is a gentlemen and a complete ass at the same time but I really liked him. I felt sorry for him and cringed at his decisions. Avery is innocent and a little oblivious. She did have a great sense of humor.

It was a bit predictable but I did love the story. Van Dyken has a way of making me giggle over the things her characters say. The innuendos are great. She created great characters and interesting situations. I will most definitely be reading more of her work.

I started reading this and thought, oh no... this may be the first book by this author that I don't like.. but let me tell you, she's got an amazing talent and even though you may strongly dislike the topic, she will make you absolutely fall in love with the characters and totally understand how a person became the way they are and ultimately, you will love them! That takes real skill!

This was a nice surprise for me.It wasn't bad at all I couldn't put it down and I find it entertaining. It was fun and steamy.I just sometimes had a problem with the characters that frustrate me.

The title itself is cringe-worthy, right? I told myself that I would make no assumptions and while some parts remained reprehensible to me, others offered some context and perspective. This book takes us out of our comfort zone and I think that's why I could read it objectively. It goes without saying that our hero is flawed. Lucas takes man-whoring to the next level. But he has layers and there's just something about him that made me keep reading. Perhaps the lure of the seemingly irredeemable? Avery was cute, sassy and funny. She has her own heap of flaws but I was rooting for her. The plot is complex, convoluted, and frankly, jacked up, but life is messy as hell. More than anything, it felt like a snapshot of a messy reality and it felt fresh and different for it. So with that said, safety gang friends: THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR YOU. (view spoiler)

Another novel that both elicits laughs and ALL THE FEELS. I wasn't sure about this book when I first started it, but two chapters in and I was riding the Lucas train. Full Speed Ahead!

I love a good romance that has me giggling at it as much as I am swooning. Avery is just as clumsy and non filtered as I am and I adored that. I would have reacted much the same to a lot of the things she did in this book and it made it all the better.

You are awkward too, admit it.

Then there was Lucas. I swear someone needed to just smack him upside the head once of twice. He made some dumb decisions, but in the end you get it. You get Lucas. You might not agree with how he went about things, but you laugh a bit with/at him, and you get it.

This is a romance that you end up truly falling in love with. By the end of it you are swooning all the same. It is a novel by Rachel Van Dyken, what isn't to love about that.

Hang in there. Give Avery and Lucas a chance and you will fall in love with a cheater. Promise.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've read several of Rachel Van Dyken's books, and I thoroughly enjoyed each one. I love her writing style. The banter between the characters is always my favorite thing. I didn't particularly connect with Thorn or Avery in this book, but I loved the banter between the two. Some of the situations seemed a little far-fetched, but this mostly light, fun read is exactly what I needed right now. I laughed. I cringed. I wanted to slap Lucas.

If you are looking for a story with a lot of depth, this is probably not the right book for you. But if you want something fun that isn't too emotionally draining, I recommend Cheater!

The title had me….hesitating. Cheater. Do I want to read about a cheater…..Yes!!! This was a fun read! It was not at all what I expected.

Cheaters aren’t born, they’re made. Never forget that. You don’t wake up one day and decide to cheat, you don’t make a career out of it, and you sure as hell don’t end up hurting an endless number of people for your own psychotic reasons.

Sometimes.

Things.

Just.

Happen.

With that blurb I must say this is not your typical “cheating” story, so please don’t let that sway you. It is hard without giving the story away to tell you about the cheating situation or why Lucas thinks he’s a cheater.

Lucas Thorn. His failed engagement 4 years ago left a lot of collateral damage. Being engaged to your next door neighbor/high school sweet heart was a big deal. Adding to that - both sets of parents are/were best friends hence ruining their lifelong friendship and it only gets worse! Lots of miscommunication and hidden agendas. Lots of drama & angst! But still so funny!

Four years later Lucas Thorn is a successful VP of Grant Learning. Avery Black, youngest sister to his former fiancée becomes his personal assistant. Avery did not know who she would be working with. She is still very angry.

Avery and Lucas were best friends. When her sister was busy with wedding plans and her Master’s degree Lucas would drive Avery to work and go to her softball games. Avery was 17, almost 18 at the time. Lucas was a huge part of her life.

What can I say? I loved this book! It was so funny! The banter between Lucas & Avery was hilarious! Those two together…..match, meet gasoline! Laugh out loud scenarios. The chemistry was hot!

I really don’t want to give any more away. If you are looking for a laugh out loud book with lots of banter and chemistry, then this is it for you!

“Is there a reason that every story you come up with involves you being the hero, while I end up maimed, in prison, or almost murdered?”

“I think my favorite one was when you got jumped, and I saved your life with my kung fu.”

“Admit it. The closest you’ve been to kung fu is the movie Kung Fu Panda, which you probably watched because you’re convinced the panda is your spirit animal since it’s always eating.”

Lucas, Lucas, Lucas, how many times can you shake your head at this boy before he gets it right. A man that thinks if he is open with 6 women about sleeping with the others that he isn't cheating. A man that thinks that as long as he is honest about where he stands, none will get hurt or attached. Boy is he wrong.

Avery knows Lucas well. He was after all her best friend when she was younger, set to marry her sister. They were close, he was her hero. She felt betrayed when it didn't work out with her sister. He left, never even saying goodbye.

The banter between these two made the book. It was cute, normal, and reminded me a little of people I know. They kept each other on their toes and didn't let each other off the hook. They were honest which was refreshing until it came to their feelings. Why? Because real feelings always get in the way.

As long as you can get past the whole he was going to marry her sister and is now with her plot, you will be good. I personally ignored it and moved to the story line.

Loved this book. I am a big fan of this author. I love the characters she writes. We start off me! I eting Lucas and he explains why he is a cheater. Then we met Avery. Lucas and Avery have known each other for most of their lives. When Avery sees him she is not at all happy about it, but they are stuck together.

As each of them try to make the other persons life hell, things start to affect their families. It was so funny. The scenes that were put together and the way Lucas and Avery responded to each was great. I loved it. I can't wait for the next book.

3.5 stars

I am a little bit torn on how to write this review. One one side, I love Rachel Van Dyken and I've read and loved nearly everything she's written. On the other side, this book, even though well written, simply didn't intrigued me as her stories usually do. I am not sure whether it was the story itself, my mood or something else altogether but I just wasn't that much into it.

The truth is, I quite liked the main characters. Lucas and Avery are quite a lot of fun and the chemistry between them is palpable. So no surprise that they are simply combustible together. Their history is also quite interesting and definitely catches the attention. But I think that's also what turned me off in this book. I do get the reasoning behind what the characters did in the past and their actions now. But for me, it is simply wrong mixing all three sisters in it. It was just not for me.

So yes, that wasn't my favorite RVD book but it is simply because it wasn't exactly my taste. I will still encourage you to check it out. You might like it. I am definitely intrigued by the second book in the series so I am really excited for that one to come out.

I actually loved this story. I loved seeing how everything came about and learning why Lucas is the way he is. It definitely has the humor you are used to reading from Rachel Van Dyken. It also has sweet aspects and times that you want to chunk your reading device.

I was not a fan of Lucas in the beginning, but after learning more and understanding him a little better, he really began to grow on me. I loved Avery in the beginning, but I was frustrated at the fact that she was so strung and had no trouble standing up for herself, yet she gave in so quickly to Lucas. Other than that, I loved everything about this story.

I will always read Rachel Van Dyken. She is definitely on my list for authors I will read whatever they right. I thought Cheater was a great story and I can't wait to read more from her.

If you are looking for a great laugh, you will find it in this book. It is true that Lucas Thorn cheated on the eve of his wedding ruining his reputation forever. So the man who made a mistake now won't let anyone get close. He becomes a true player. He does have rules no relations on Sunday, no commitments, no exceptions.
Avery Black, the sister of Lucas' cheated on bride and now she has to work with him. The snarky, strawberry blonde plots payback for her sister, but Lucas has a few tricks up his sleeve. They meet after a few years and they zing, but neither one wants to admit it even to themselves.
I enjoyed the comedy in the book. The banter between Avery and Lucas is funny. The dinner with Lucas' parents had me laughing out loud. The story is just not a predictable RomCom. The 4 star rating is based on the mistakes and the over use of slapstick scenes which makes it a bit confusing at times. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
