This book starts off with the character in action. The whole book is fast to read and very action packed. There is always something happening through out the whole story. The main character, Auriella, is presented to you at the beginning of the story as just an orphaned girl. Little does she know she is much more. This seems like more of a middle grade book possibly. It was a good entertaining read but that is it for me. It wasn't a story that I would be eager to continue. I wasn't hooked in the story nor was I attached to the characters. If I was to rate it as a middle grade it would be 4 out of 5 stars. Rating it as a Young Adult book it would be 3 out of 5 stars.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fun, fluffy, quick read. It's definitely written for a younger audience. It's not a long book, has short chapters and the writing is fairly simply. That's not to say that the subject matter and story falls short. Quite the contrary.

The story is set in England in the 1200s and revolves around Auriella, an orphan girl just trying to scratch out a living in a small town. When a fire breaks out, she runs in the cottage to save the family and comes out unscathed. She does not know why the fire didn't burn her, but rather than being thanked, she is immediately deemed a witch and must flee to save her life. While running through the woods she is attacked by wolves and wakes up a captive of an old witch.

During her captivity Auriella realizes that she is not like other girls and has powers she doesn't understand and can't control very well. The rest of the book details her journey to discovery who she is, what her purpose is and what she needs to do to find her place in the world.

While over-simplified and uncomplicated, the book is an entertaining read and I would be interested in reading the next book in the series.
