I have read and review books that have ghosts as a coprotagonists. This is one of the better ones. It is well written and entertaining. I hope to have more available in the US.
This was an unusual mystery or two. Having a pet skunk is certainly different. There is some humor mixed stuff to give you chills. While I enjoyed this book I won't go on to read more because it was too spooky for me with the whole mean ghosts thing and such. I tend to like more light-hearted cozy mysteries. I would mention this book to people who enjoy being a little scared.
This was a fun cozy mystery! I finished it in one night, my husband even commented on how I couldn't tear my eyes away from my kindle. I couldn't help myself, I had to find out who dun it.
Verity is strong and sassy and does a great job playing the amateur sleuth. She's the type of character I enjoy getting to know.
Southern Spirits by Angie Fox -Romance, mystery, comedy.
I love the cover, its bright, cute and for some reason just caught my eye. Maybe the cartoonish quality that lets me know not to take the book seriously and it is going to be just plain fun right from first glance. That first impression did not let me down.
Verity Long is alone in her struggle to keep her grandmother's house in Sugarland, Tennessee. Finding a god-awful vase in the attic, Verity cleans it but dumps the dirt that was in the vase into her rose bushes, releasing the ashes of Frankie the German, a 1920's gangster. As a ghost, Frankie and Verity, together with Lucy, Verity's sneaky little skunk they work together to try and raise the needing twenty thousand dollars.
Ellis is Verity's ex-fiancé's brother. He himself is mystery , a black sheep of the esteemed Wydell family As a cop Ellis learns that Verity has a special ability to see ghosts and hires her to get rid of the ghost in his soon to be restaurant.
I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. It was so much fun, I laughed at times and cried at others . The quirky Verity and her pet skunk are endearing. Frankie is quite the character. Ellis is a heartthrob A great balance of mystery, humor and romance with interesting characters. and great plot.
I read the 4th in this sweet series (because you know, skunks, ghosts, murder, and mayhem are all really sweet) first and then checked Netgalley to see if author, Angie Fox's newest installment was out to be reviewed yet. Sadly, it was not but this one was available to read now and so I snagged it - and I'm so glad I did!
This is book 1 in her Southern Ghost Hunter series and it's where it all began. Verity Long is out of work, newly single (she kicked her loser fiance to the curb....on their wedding day), and trying to save the home that belonged to her grandmother. In that process, she discovers that she accidently ties a ghost to the house and is now stuck with him. Frankie the German was a gangster from the area that was killed in the 20s and together (much to the chagrin of both of them) they have found them selves, along with Ellis Wydell (brother of the no good loser fiance) right smack in the middle of a mystery involving an angry ghost and a member of their own community who may have done something terrible.
I just loved everything about this book, the author, Angie Fox wove a tale that had the suspense of a traditional thriller with just enough humor and lightness to make this a book that I didn't want to put down. I'm off to go buy book 2 (shhhhh don't tell my husband)
On a side note, there's a note from the author at the end of this book that says there will be at least 7 more novels in this series.....yay!!
