I thoroughly enjoyed this romance, not able to put it down until the last sentence. There are so many fantastic descriptions of the Colorado Springs setting, making me nostalgic for my time spent there. Hank is most definitely a swoon worthy leading man, bringing a sensitivity as well as a masculine charm. Ali's journey to discover what she can't live without kept me on my toes. The Last Resort is a fantastic read

ARC provided by Netgalley, thank you.
I will have to revisit this book because I just did not seem to be in the mood to read it at the time.... Storyline is promising, but like I said, sometimes when you are not in the right mindset its hard to enjoy.
I read The Last Resort over two airplane rides. It's a light, quick read that draws you in from the beginning and keeps the momentum going from the first page.
Ali is a textbook workaholic. She has no time for anything but work and riding horses. On a trip home for a family function, she takes out an unfamiliar horse and gets in an accident. She ends up with both substantial physical injuries and PTSD. People at work begin noticing that she's not in a good head space and send her on a work-mandated retreat to help her heal.
The cast of characters in The Last Resort is interesting but kind of one-dimensional. Even our main characters are not as deep as they could be. There is definitely room for and hints at complexity, but most of the writing stays pretty surface-y. The romance is also practically instantaneous, which bothers a lot of readers; there is a some burn but once it lights up it flames fast.
But that's okay. Hank is sweet and tortured and swoon-y, and Ali spends a lot of time trying to figure out what her best life looks like. She is ambitious and career-driven, and neither the book nor Kovach tries to undermine that by just giving her a relationship to fall into instead. I also loved the descriptions of the Colorado country side and the horse care. The novel jumps right into the action and it's a fast-paced ride from start to finish.
If you're looking for a breezy romance to plop down on a beach or airplane with, try out The Last Resort by R.S. Kovach.
I have to say that R.S. Kovach did a amazing job in The Last Resort. She definitely knew how to write a fun yet emotional romance read. It is a easy read but it also have some layers that will keep the reader interest.
The Last Resort will start off with introducing the sexy yet driven, Ali. Ali is beautiful women that she has no problems in catching man. But she is very driven in her career that she does not focus in playing the field. She is determined to be the best in her career no matter what. I definitely love how driven and determined Ali is. But her life is about to change that will shaken her routine.
She gets into a terrible accident that she ends up getting treatment. While getting treatment, she will also face some problems while she is working that it creates some problems at work. Her bosses know she is not doing her best that they send her to resort so she can sort out her problems. It was kinda hasty that her bosses send her but I definitely know that Ali needs it because her confidence is shaken that she needs to spend some time to regroup herself.
It is always best to regroup whenever someone is facing a difficult time or problem. And that is what Ali going to do when she goes into a treatment resort. It will definitely put Ali out of her comfort zone but she will definitely benefit from it. Ali will face a lot of issues during her stay that she will realize what is important in her life. While she resorting herself, she will also meet someone new. And he is definitely sexy.
Hank is a sexy co-worker at the treatment resort. And he definitely has a eye for the stubborn yet beautiful, Ali. He is willing to make Ali realize that they can work together. It will be a challenge because Ali does evaluate everything for all aspects. But Hank is the job to do it and convince her. Their relationship is definitely true that it is worth it to make it work.
Five Stars!
The Last Resort chronicles the story of workaholic, Ali Barros. Ali has it all, a high-paying job, respect from her coworkers, a challenging career...
But wait? Is that all there is to life?
Well, Ali is about to find out after a horseback riding accident lands her in the hospital. The accident not only breaks her arm, her confidence is also shattered. She's sent to the exclusive Pebble Creek Lodge to get her business mojo back.
Enter hot, mysterious, did I say hot? ranch hand, Hank Mathis. Ali can't help but be attracted to him. Watching the banter between this down-to-earth cowboy and the prim, focused financial executive is so much fun. Kovach has really captured the two worlds, and it is so much fun to hitch a ride along.
The path is rocky, both Ali and Hank have secrets in their past that could break them apart. The question is, when things get bad, will they get back on the horse?
Highly recommend!
Note: I was a beta reader for this book.

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance,
As a horse lover and rider this appealed to me so I was eager to read it. Sounded like it was a romance with that extra spark that I like.
Sadly I didn't like it and finally abandoned at the halfway mark.
I didn't like Ali. Right from the start she comes over a a bit arrogant, and the accident could have happened anyway, but maybe if she'd been more aware. Still, I've broken bones through riding accidents, it happens, its quiet a dangerous sport...I used to hide the newspapers from Him Indoors when there were bad news involving horse riding.
I just didn't see though how such a simple accident led to the mental issues that affected her work. She must have done things like this before - its par for the course when you ride alot.
Then the mistakes at work seemed to be just weird, odd, and I didn't really see how they were caused by the accident and its effect on her. Still, she gets sent to recuprate for a month.
I thought given she's got mental issues, trauma etc there would be daily psych sessions, both group and private, but at halfway she's only had two, one very off the cuff in the stables and another than seems to have been over in minutes. There's no real sessions seem to take place with any of the other residents either.
She doesn't really exercise much sense or treat others with any respect. She's rude to some of them, uses one man to try to make Hank jealous, which isn't really fair to the poor guy, and as she's only been there a few days why on earth is she so obsessed with Hank. And what the heck does he see in her, something I don't that's for sure.
She doesn't listen either when she wants to go for a walk and a storm is coming, but trundles out putting others in danger when she needs rescuing. She could have followed the riders she saw while out and lost, that would be simple wouldn't it but no, for some obscure reason she doesn't.
I did like Hank, and just didn't see what attracted him to her. They didn't really have any real interactions, and suddenly its full on romance.
I just had to give up, I know its a story that's won awards, and well done to the author for that. Its tough getting a book seen in todays market but for me it just doesn't work. Luckily everyone wants different things and others will love it but for me its a DNF fail.
Stars: Two, sadly a fail for me. I can see others don't like the ending - I didn't even get that far...and maybe that's just as well, as it sounds like I'd be moaning too.

Sometimes when a person is injured, not all the problems are just physical. In THE LAST RESORT, separate incidents have changed the current lives of two people, and they think everything is being done to get their lives hopefully back in order. But often it takes some deep soul-searching before an individual can truly be happy, especially if a fear must be conquered first. There is lots of emotion in the story, and I never knew if the two main characters would react as I thought best, or if they might possibly choose a direction that could lead to heartache. R.S. Kovach explores the ups and downs of a relationship all throughout THE LAST RESORT, where numerous emotional self-discoveries are made.
After finalizing a huge deal for her investment company, Alejandra Barros is very happy. Most of her life centers on doing successful work for the financial firm, so she rarely does much relaxing. But while visiting her parents for a large family gathering, she is asked to go horseback riding. Since she has a great love for horses and even enters competitions for jumping, Ali decides it would be a good time to get in some extra practice. Regrettably, things do not go as planned, and she ends up with a broken wrist.
Though the surgery goes well, recovering from the incident will take weeks. When much of her work seems to be affected as her mind and body are not always cooperating, Ali is told to take a month off and go through rehabilitation at Pebble Creek Lodge located close to Denver. It does not take her long to realize the place where she is to recuperate is not to her liking. However, there is one person at the lodge who catches her attention, and she along with employee Hank Mathis enjoys horses. As Ali tries to make the best of the forced situation, she and Hank become friendlier. She really needs to work through some tough problems, and he just might be the one who can help if she lets him.
At first, I was not as connected to Ali as I would like. But as I watched her go through days of recovering from her injury, I came to understand her better and started to empathize more. She is someone who wants to be in control of everything in her life, and when the accident changes this fact, Ali deeply feels the loss. Being away from work and told to stay at the lodge certainly did not thrill her either, but meeting a charming cowboy gives her a challenge, something she enjoys. Although she and Hank are from two very different worlds, they surprisingly delight in interacting. They often share some quick-witted banter along with pleasurable conversations, but there are also several much more serious discussions which let me know more about their real inner feelings.
There are many secondary characters in the story that play important parts, and some of their spontaneous responses had me smiling and even laughing. The Colorado setting is vividly described, and it made me want to visit this gorgeous locale. R.S. Kovach has written a compelling romance, as THE LAST RESORT has interesting characters and entertaining scenes.
I voluntarily reviewed the book from the publisher, and all comments are my honest opinion
3.5 Stars
I have mixed feelings about this book. That usually doesn’t happen very often. I think it’s more of a love-hate relationship with the female character, Ali.
I feel that the author wanted to depict her as a strong female executive. And in many ways she was that. But she was also very self-centered, making a freak accident a big deal, in my opinion. She was also very clueless in a lot of areas and that was very frustrating to me.
Hank, I liked. He’s strong and not without his own demons to deal with. He took a liking to Ali and helped her work through her issues. He was kind and respectful, and together they worked well. Except for when it came to having conversations. That was very lacking and also frustrating.
The story itself has a lot of potential. But it also lacked some finesse. There’s areas that left me wondering why the author would want them to not talk and work out issues. It was weird.
The ending was also very different. It kind of ended abruptly without any conclusion as far as if they would even make it or not. It wasn’t a cliffhanger but it really wasn’t a happily ever after either.
Overall, the writing was solid with a side of fresh romance. The author brought us some heat that spiced the story right up. But I would’ve liked less ambiguity and more on the long-lasting connection.
Fantastic read!
Ali - a high-achieving workaholic who's forced to face her perfectionistic issues after an accident - is both a likable and flawed character. And then there's cowboy Hank, who's impossible not to love, what with his abs of steel and handsome smile. Kovach does a great job creating chemistry between Ali & Hank - you'll find yourself waiting just as breathlessly for their next encounter as main character Ali does.
Besides the wonderful romantic element to this novel, Kovach also thoughtfully explores the effects of post traumatic stress disorder, and the various ways it can affect different people. I tore through this debut novel and look forward to Kovach's next work!
The Last Resort by R.S. Kovach is a nice sweet romance. We meet Ali Barros, a high powered executive, who is a workaholic and very successful at her job. She is also a horsewoman that wins jumping events. She feels forced to travel home to her parent’s house for a party while there, Ali decides to go horseback riding and has a mishap, breaking her wrist. Since Ali has always been sure of herself in anything she does, the fall from the horse has an effect on her confidence, as well as her work. Her boss sends her on a month long retreat to an exclusive ranch resort in Colorado, which is also a place for various treatments for visitors. Ali isn’t happy to go, especially when a physiological therapist tries to talk to her; and all she wants is to go back home to New York.
She does meet various people, who are at Pebble Creek Lodge for different reasons. Ali slowly relaxes, knowing she has no choice but to finish the month, and befriends some the people. The ranch hand, Hank Mathis, our hero, gets her attention immediately; but then again he has all the women lusting after him.
What follows is a slow built romance between two unlikely people that will grow as they begin to spend more time together. I did like both Hank and Ali, and there was some fun with the bantering between them, as well as with the other residents. Though I wanted them together, I did not really feel the hot chemistry between them. I did like Ali, but thought she was a bit too sarcastic to Hank many times, and acted indifferent at times.
The Last Resort was a good story, and a nice romance. However, I was sadly disappointed at the end, which did lead to a happy ever after. I felt it needed an epilogue to answer some open questions, and not leaving us to decide what happens.
