ARC received for review

Dimitri and Faith are great together. Yet again their relationship and troubles are different from all the previous couples...which I love. Nice seeing all the peeps again. Ulrik, of course, needs to die. I'm sure he's the one who left that little surprise behind which caused so much trouble.

Rhi is starting to grow on me again. If it turns out that V is her Dragon King, I'm not going to be happy. He's a douche.

Fantasy romance books are not really my cup of tea, and although I didn't immediately realize that's what this was - I quickly learned. Given that, I do like Donna Grant and I enjoy her writing style. While the content was not something I loved, her writing is engaging and brings the reader into the story and engages the reader to care and be invested in the characters. I felt a little lost at times, but I think that may be attributed to the story genre, which for me is difficult to really get into.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dimitri and Faith have a unique bond forged in mystery and love. This book raised alot of questions about where the Dragon kings were headed next and who they were against.

Faith is an archaeologist who has found the skeletal remains of a dragon. Dimitri is a dragon king, who has been sent to overlook the dig and destroy the remains. The world of dragons do not want to be studied and inspected by science. I have read several of the Dragon King stories, and like them overall. Had a little trouble getting into this one though, as I didn't really feel the chemistry between Faith and Dimitri. Fun to read about other characters, and hope to see Vlad get a story. Highly recommend this author and series.

Another great installment in the series with a plot that kept me hooked throughout. I loved meeting the new characters and I'm looking forward to reading more about them.
I have a crazy theory that rhi's king left her because he knew that she's meant to be Cons mate.......somethings going on there... I just wish they would tell us!!! Then again I kind of want her to end up with Daire aswell so I don't know lol

Book provided by the publisher for an honest review.

Loved Dimitri and Faith's story! I look forward to reading more of the Dragon Kings, especially Con and Ulrick.

The only sound was the crackle of the fire as they looked at each other. Then his mouth was on hers, moving seductively. She returned his kiss, opening for him when his tongue swept against her lips.
He enticed, he tempted.
He tantalized, he seduced.
And it was glorious.

Firestorm is the tenth book in Donna Grant’s incredible Dark Kings’ series. I would suggest reading this series in order, but, this story works well as a stand-alone, if that is your preference, because the romantic relationship is fully contained within this novel. That said, there are seriously addictive plot lines that have been building since the very first installment in this series. Devoted fans literally spend hours and hours debating the whos, whats, whens and wheres of each development – so, if you jump right into this book and are hooked, you will have some fun catching up to do.

Firestorm is, on the surface, the tale of dragon shapeshifter Dimitri, King of the white dragons, and Dr. Faith Reynold, an archeologist. The story is told from multiple points of view bringing an added dimension to the characters and their interactions. A recent discovery of a dragon skeleton at Faith’s dig could spell big trouble for the Kings so Dimitri has been dispatched to the site tasked with destroying the bones.

However, when he falls for Faith, her passion for what she does and the reverence she shows to the bones makes his job all the more difficult. As the storyline progresses, it becomes evident that the bones actually hold the answer to a painful secret long buried. My heart went out to Dimitri when he discovered what was hidden in that mountain. Donna writes titillating romances with plenty of heat and, ooh la la, Firestorm is no exception. Talk about feeling the burn! I couldn’t get enough of Dimitri and he and Faith were great together.

Dimitri and Faith are great characters, but I loved the appearances by Rhi and Con and other favorites from the series. I especially liked the lengthy conversation between Con and Rhi. OMG! Then, there’s Balladyn and more Rhi. I’m not a fan of Balladyn’s and, unfortunately, Balladyn appears to have Rhi where we wants her. But, will Rhi’s shadow Reaper have a say in that? The suspense leading up to Con's and Ulrik's showdown - which just has to be getting close - is well-orchestrated perfection! Ulrik is up to his normal nefarious behind-the scenes shenanigans, but he’s actually having to watch his own back now. And that’s not all…

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Firestorm:

“I’m a planner. I like to know what’s coming, that way I can figure out a way to deal with it.”
He shot her a wink. “I wasna planned, and you handled that situation well.”
It was a fact, but then again, who could ever prepare for a man like Dmitri?
---

They couldn’t turn back time. What was done, was done.
He dropped his arms and lowered his head. Despondency filled him to the very brim. He was a dragon. A creature of magic and fire. A being that was lethal and dangerous.
The Kings had forgotten that. All but one.
---

“When are we going to deal with Usaeil?”
“Soon.”
“The sooner, the better, Con. If you don’t do something she’s going to.”
He raised a brow. “You mean worse than she already has? She’s all but told the Light.”
“You think you know her, but you don’t. She cares about nothing but her own desires now.”
Sounds like the Dark,” he said.
“I know.”

When you delve into a Donna Grant novel, you can be assured that you are in for a treat. I was thrilled with the disclosures about the history of the Dark Kings that Donna infused throughout this story. It seemed to be a natural fit that in a book featuring an archaeologist and historical digs, Donna would disclose much about the heartbreaking past of the Dark Kings. Now, I can’t wait to dive into Blaze which is nestled next to me as I write this review.

If you enjoy captivating sweet and hot romances with plenty of intense action sequences and twisty turns featuring dragons who happen to be highlanders too, I highly recommend that you check out Donna’s Dark Kings.

Suggested Reading Order:
The Dark Kings series is a spin off the Dark Warriors Series and Dark Sword Series. Donna's Reaper series should be read along with the Dark Kings.

Called the Dragon Kings a millennium ago, these men of power and magic can shift into dragon form and have ruled over all other creatures. When humans appeared, they protected them until they were betrayed and thousands of dragons were killed. The betrayal was made worse when they discovered that it came from a woman who had vowed to love one of the Dragon Kings. The Dragon Kings withdrew their power from the world, from humans, some of the dragons choosing to sleep away the passing millennia. But now a new evil is beginning to awaken the Dark Kings and they are reluctantly being pulled into a war not of their choosing. What they never expected to find is a love so powerful it threatens to change everything they have ever known.

The dragons are on the loose and there is no stopping the war now—even if they’d like to be able to. Donna’s skill with interweaving her many series all into a single world is unparalleled and leaves you feeling like you are really moving through their worlds as one of them. I love these Dragon Kings and as I meet more and more of them I begin to wonder how she comes up with all these varied and amazing personalities. The story continues with Dimitri being sent back to his former home in order to investigate a claim made by an archeologist that she has discovered the skeleton of a dragon, thereby risking the secrets of the Kings and the war that is coming to claim them. Dimitri is returning to the island knowing that if the skeleton is really one of his people he will be forced to destroy the skeleton, but when he meets the archeologist, Faith, he is immediately drawn to her. As they begin to work together Dimitri comes to believe that Faith might be more than just a woman out for glory, she is a woman that has great respect for history and the truth, which is the only goals she has. Faith is unsure about Dimitri when he first arrives in her life, but the attraction she feels is certainly unprecedented so she is willing to keep him around just to explore those emotions. I was a bit surprised over Dimitri, being that we’d never gotten to know him to this point, but I loved the way he was willing to be flexible in his plans and offer his trust in Faith as she proved to him that she was a good woman. Faith certainly had her issues, but I loved the way she was willing to stand up for what she believed in, despite danger to herself and the possibility of losing the accolades that are inherent with her discovery. Once these two came together, they found a way to work with each other to not only preserve the past, but also to protect their secret and the lives of the individuals at Dreagan. The passionate connection between Faith and Dimitri was put to the test as they are forced to come to terms with the fact that while trust can come quickly, once it is lost it takes a lot to be rebuilt. The side stories in the novel certainly moved forward quickly and we are STILL no closer to knowing which Dragon King stole and never returned Rhi’s heart, but I’m beginning to wonder if she will be able to find her HEA with him in the end or if Rhi’s future might lead her in another direction altogether. I am looking forward to the next story in the Dark world, whether it is focused on the Kings or the Reapers, but more and more I believe these stories will be merged together in the end. I am dying to know though where Donna will ultimately lead us, but I know wherever it ends up will not only be passionate, magical, and awesome, but earthshattering and amazing for her readers.

Dr. Faith Reynolds has made the archaeological discovery of a lifetime: a dragon skeleton. Dimitri, a Dragon King, is sent to his ancestral home to see the bones of one of his dragons destroyed. Neither planned on falling in love. Dimitri swore off human women, instead preferring fae lovers, but headstrong Faith, who is surprisingly protective of the dragon skeleton, has him questioning that decision. Faith is not afraid to go after what she wants, and she wants Dimitri. What begins as an intense affair during the dig turns into much more. When they return to Draegan to bury the bones, new dangers arise as the fae and a fallen dragon continue to work together. The Dragon Kings are caught in a political game that threatens to destroy not just the dragons, but also the humans they vowed to protect. Readers new to Grant’s paranormal Dark Kings series will do better to start at the beginning, Dark Craving (2012), but established fans will find much to enjoy as the Dragons face their new foes with their mates by their sides. — Ilene Lefkowitz

SCORCHED BY DESIRE

Dimitri lives to protect the secret of the Dragon Kings from the human race. Bound by a bond stronger than blood to the Kings, Dimitri uses his strength and prowess to defend a thousand-year-old secret. But when an oh-so-sexy, slightly absent-minded archaeologist wanders into his midst, Dimitri will have to give up his rules, and give in to desire...

When Dr. Faith Reynold stumbles upon an ancient skeleton that appears it comes from a dragon, she’s completely taken aback. A woman of science, there’s no way in her mind that this mythological creature can exist. But when a devilishly handsome man named Dimitri intercepts her path to uncovering the truth, Faith’s curiosity turns into all-consuming passion. She’s never felt this way about any man before. But when Dimitri reveals his biggest secret, can she learn to love the man—as well as the dragon within.

Wow! It's been a while since I have stumbled across a paranormal romance with a story arc that spans several books. Especially one that I so enjoyed that I have to go track down the back list for this series.

What really made this series for me is that I really liked the characters. Even the villain is likeable, he just happens to have a different view on how humans should be treated. I just loved Faith who was very much a woman of science but is willing to believe her own eyes even if it happens go against what science currently feels to be true.

I would recommend FIRESTORM to any of my readers who enjoy dragons and paranormal romances. Actually I would recommend starting at the beginning of the series but FIRESTORM does a wonderful job of standing on its own.

Another great book from Ms Grant. Dimtri and Faith have an instant connection and you can feel the heat between these two as it leaps from the pages. I loved the added aspect of other major characters in the Dragon King books and the Reaper books and getting to know more about their stories. I cannot wait to see where the King's adventures take us next! Thank you Donna, for another great book.

I really enjoy this series. Dragons are my favorite paranormal creature and I think the author does a good job creating an unique back story for this series. I thought I was caught up but apparently I missed a few books somewhere along the way. This can be read as a standalone but you will be struggling a bit in a few places. Nothing major but still.

The dragon kings are having a bunch of problems and then Faith, who is an archaeologist, digs up a dragon skeleton. Dmitri steps in to deal with her and they end up falling for each other. Neither should be attracted to the other but they are.

I thought the plot was fast paced and entertaining and these two were great together. A very enjoyable read for me.

Reviews published on Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and V's Reads: https://vsreads.com/2017/03/13/connections-and-deceptions-firestorm-review-giveaway/

Dr. Faith Reynolds, an archeologist working a Fair Isle dig, has discovered a new world–in the form of a dragon skeleton. She’s sure this is a bona fide discovery, but most of her crew is skeptical, thinking it’s likely a new species of dinosaur. Dmitri, Dragon King of the Whites, knows this “find” is one of his family, somehow left behind and hidden eons ago after he’d ushered all the rest of his dragons through the portal that removed them from Earth and the humans that were constantly attacking.

Dmitri has never forgotten the anguish of sending his family on, and never bedded a mortal human in all these years. Still, he’s struck by Faith, and her quiet, studious ways. She wants to uncover the truth of her find, and that gets to the heart of Dmitri in ways he hadn’t expected. Dark Fae are about, messing and meddling with the humans, leaving two dead over the course of several storms that slow Faith’s pace on the site–but gives Dmitri and Faith time to bond–especially once Faith is attacked by the Dark Fae and Dmitri is compelled to rescue her.

I liked how they built a rapport of mutual esteem before it got physical, and I liked how Faith was willing to accept the truth of Dmitri’s heritage, too. It was interesting how the falling in love part happened quick, and there was time for more dangerous complications once Dmitri and friends got the skeleton back to Dreagan. For readers of the series, there is a lot of good stuff happening with previous couples, and naturally, Ulrik–the banished dragon who’s been stirring up lots of conflict–is back for more. As we near the end of this series, the conflict between Constantine and Ulrik seems to creep ever-nearer. This time, however, there were serious mind games happening, which made all the convictions to stay hidden and live secretly within human society seem foolish–and I liked that serious introspection. I also liked getting more of the backstory behind Con and Ulrik and what tore the rift between them. I’m anxious to see if Constantine finds a human to love, which I anticipate will be a big part of the end of this series. For readers new to the books, I felt the catch up in backstory was adequate for all this to make sense, more so that when I read SMOKE AND FIRE, so I’d recommend it to anyone who thinks dragon shifters are hot–and want to watch one fall for a studious and conscientious woman. This is a great read, Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series is a world full of action, romance and sexy as all-get-out alpha dragon kings. If you are looking for your next book boyfriends, I say this because really who can pick just one, then this is defiantly the series for you.
Dimitri is the King of the White dragons; he has been given the job to investigate an archeological site, to see if the findings are a dragon skeleton or not, then to destroy it. Dr. Faith Reynolds is the lead archeologist and founder of the bones, for some reason she was drawn to the bone site. When things started getting dangerous at the site, her assistant Tamir called for some help. I like the friendship between Faith and Tamir, they care for each other like siblings if not better. I loved the moment when Dimitri and Faith met, her first reaction was to run her hands through his hair and climb him; I guess I would have too. When Dimitri realized that there was more to the bones then he thought… well, I guess you’ll have to read the book to find out now won’t you? The author gives us a little back ground with both characters. The interaction between characters is natural and has some sweet bantering; the love scenes are hot and sexy, action is fun.
This is a great paranormal romance story/series, I have read some of the books out of order and was able to follow along with each story but highly recommend reading the series in order so you’re not too confused at the end.
***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.***

Live on Butterfly-o-Meter Books. Will show up on Goodreads sometime later.

In a Flutter: Fun, but it felt slower-paced than usual.
Fluttering Thoughts:
Worldbuilding: The same awesome world of Dreagan, the rich history of dragons, fae, magic – goody. Plus we got to travel a bit to Dimitri's Fair Isle :D
Characters: I liked Dimitri and Faith. It was a bit of a predictable couple, in the sense that in this series couples generally consist of an alpha male and an independent woman who fall for each other and become mates. I found Faith's career to be very interesting - she's an archaeologist, and passionate about history - yet knows very little about herself. I can't wait to find out more about that in future novels, tbh. I liked them together, and I liked them each on their own. They had some good chemistry, but in a way I felt like we didn’t get to experience them together as much as I might have liked.
We did get to see a lot of Rhi, as usual – I’m tempted to say -, and I’m just dying to find out all about her ex and what’s going to happen with her in the future. I just know she’s a very important piece of the whole story. And Con is very intriguing. Is he her ex or not? I’m still not sure. Very frustrating, lol!
Plot: The romance arc was of the instalove to mates variety, fun but not overly exciting for some reason. The plot outside of the romance keeps building tension and growing, and I’m looking forward to finding out how things are resolved. I will say I felt like the tempo was slower than I remember the novels in this series to be, with more remember-the-time moments than usual. Maybe it was just my impression, but the pace felt slower and there was a bit less excitement, for some reason. There were also some brutal moments that I was a bit iffy about, even considering the explanation/reasoning behind them.
Writing: Third person, past tense narrative, his/her POV.
Curb Appeal: Cool cover, hooking blurb.

I do recommend Firestorm to fans of PNR and dragons in particular, to fans of alpha male/independent woman instalove/meant-to-be scenarios.

Dimitri doesn’t trust humans and after what happened to Dragons centuries ago you can’t blame the guy. It’s for that reason Dimitri understands why any Dragon would wish humans wiped from existence. In some ways he wishes the same thing but he took an oath and he will stand by his word, doing the job his King asks of him which means watching over the humans and protecting them as well as keeping them from knowing the truth about the existence of Dragons.
When an archeologist named Faith Reynolds discovers the skeletal remains of what she believes is a Dragon, it is Dimitri’s job to go in and make sure that her recent discovery is erased from reality to prevent the truth of the existence of Dragons from getting out but there is something off about the situation. The Dragon remains belong to one of Dimitri’s Silvers and he’s unsure of how one of his Dragons could have been left behind during the exodus. He needs to unravel the mystery of what killed his Silver in order to figure out why it was left behind and that requires relying upon Faith and her expertise to examine the remains. Unraveling the mystery will lead to dangerous discoveries and much more than Dimitri could have imagined, a chance at true love, with a human but is he willing to take that risk when he stills hold so much anger toward humans?

Grant perfectly layers romance with mystery and dark suspense. Dimitri and Faith’s story is no exception to that and the two sizzle but like most of the other Dragon couples their romance has to endure a bumpy road filled with danger but it’s that intense danger which makes the romance that much more compelling. It will be interesting to see just how things proceed further in the series concerning the couples now that some dark truths have been revealed especially concerning Con. I’m still not a fan of the Kings of Kings, mostly because of how he treated my girl, Rhi, but something is going on that he’s hiding and with each book that something is starting to place even more strain on him and at some point things are going to explode with Con. I just hope that explosion doesn’t fall back on the couples or Rhi. Speaking of Rhi, there are so many theories concerning her I feel like squealing every time a new tidbit is introduced. The Rhi and Reapers connection is so interesting. I can’t wait until the truth concerning that connection is completely laid out for all of us. I have a feeling we are all going to be blown away by the truth of who Rhi really is.

Dimitri has lived his life protecting the secret of the Dragon Kings from the human world. Never has he second guessed his choices until... he saw Faith

When Dr. Faith Reynold stumbles across something she never should have been able to find, her world quickly turns upside down. What should have been another simple dig turns into an out of this world adventure.

Dimitri wants to keep the dragon world a secret...Faith wants to share what she has found with the human world so they can all see that dragons and other unimaginable creatures exist. The real question is Dimitri willing to risk everything so that Faith can have what she wants? Read and find out!

I felt that this was a good look into the world of all things Dragon. I liked that a lot of the secrets of the past were being revealed all while we get a great glance at the world that Donna Grant has created. Very good job Donna Grant.
