I loved this installment of the series, I loved how passionate Dmitri was and how much Faith was engrossed in her work. The twists in this book however are plenty and explosive. I cannot wait to see what happens next, with everybody involved. Still have questions about Faith hope they are answered along the way. Definitely a must read.
This was a good book that I enjoyed. With all the intertwining storylines I realized that I needed to reread/read the rest of her books from the very first series. Another good book by Donna Grant plus a cliffie that will make me want to read the next book.
OMG! Do I have some catching up to do! I just stumbled upon this book and was intrigued by the synopsis. Little did I know that I was walking into a series. While I will admit that I did get lost during some of the parts with the Fae and the Dragon Kings, I loved the plot and characters enough that I need to start at book one! I have always had a thing for dragon shifters and Dmitri was yummy!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
~ARC was given by the publisher, made available via NetGalley.~
In every action, there is always a consequence that would affect the people around you...
Those were the thoughts that entered my mind as I read the book. As much as I like to focus on the story of Faith and Dimitri, I find myself analyzing the book with the rest of the happenings on the previous books. Don't get me wrong, I love their story. However, I cannot really focus on them due to the "Domino Effect" that the characters have done on the other books in the series.
From Con's association to the Light Fae Queen~ I will not say her name! I hate her!~to Rhi, involvement with his brother's friend ~ I can't remember the spelling of the name!~, to Ulric's ability to become a dragon once again, and finally, the Reapers. There are too many fractions in the series, that you really have to pay attention to what is happening.
Each turn of the page, takes you back on what they have done, and the result of the said action. It was really nice, because my thoughts on the matter did come to a fruition. And now I wonder, if the Silvers, started to rise, what will the other Kings do?
Faith and Dimitri's meeting opened up another type of foe. And as far as I am concern, they have too many. With their limited allies, there should be an equalizer. Since I am a reader, I will have to wait what Ms. Grant will do.
I love the series. The complication just keeps adding up. I do hope that at the end of this wonderful series, there will be brains. ~ At least on one of the books~ Again, wishful thinking~
A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
Firestorm is book 10 in the Dragon Kings series. This was a great read and an excellent addition to the Dragon Kings series. I couldn't put the book down till I reached the end of the book. I can't wait to read the next installment to this awesome series. Donna Grant has a way of writing her stories to keep the reader captivated to the pages of her books. When I was reading this story I could see this story play out like a movie in my head.
Firestorm is Dimitri Dragon King of the Silver Dragons story. I loved learning about Dimitri and his dragons. Dimitri is a strong and determined character. Then we meet Dr. Faith Reynold an archaeologist that ends up stumbling onto the Dragon Kings and wants to learn more about them.
Dr. Reynold's curiosity is getting the better of her as well as feelings she never experienced about any other man. But there is more happening that could end anything before it can happen.
Firestorm is full of action, suspense, and romance. I really enjoyed learning Dimitri's story. Donna Grant is an awesome storyteller and I can't wait for the next installment of the Dragon Kings series.
I give Firestorm 5 stars and would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys paranormal romances with dragon shifters. This is yet another series that I would reread over and over again. I thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read my review of Firestorm and hope that you enjoyed reading it.
I liked this story.. I went into this blind without reading the other books yet i was able to catch up without any problems because the author was there to explain whats been happening so i had no problems at all catching up while reading this book..
However, it made me think about what is happening in this world.. Ms. Donna Grant hit the nail right on its head when she said "The humans were to blame. They were the ones who kept claiming more and more land, the ones who insisted everything was theirs simply because they wanted it... " This for me is so true.. humans are driving out animals from their natural habitat.. we keep claiming more and more land leaving them no where to go and getting killed simply because they cannot find food anymore and venture into our cities just to find food.. and yet we end up killing them.. I don't blame Dmitri, the Dragon Kings or even Ulrik.. they are just trying to survive..
Thank you Ms. Donna Grant for this book.. it was truly an eye-opener for me..
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Paperbacks and Ms. Donna Grant for providing me with this ARC.
I read my first book by Donna Grant this year and I am hooked on her writing. The most exciting common thread is the world building in the series I have read. Each book stands on its own but the bigger story-line reels you in and keeps you coming back for more. Firestorm is my first book in the Dark Kings series but I loved it and I'm stoked about reading the rest of the series.
Dr. Faith Reynold seems to have stumbled upon the biggest find of her archaeology career in the form of a dragon skeleton, but there are many forces at work trying to thwart her discovery, for various reasons. Dragon King Dimitri has one specific role: destroy the skeleton and keep the existence of dragons secret. But he did not expect Faith and their immediate connection has him hesitating at following through on his original goal, and when an attack forces him to reveal himself to save Faith, well, that goal is dead in the water (no pun intended).
Being that this is the tenth book, it's a little hard to form a clear picture of the kings without the help of the previous books, but one thing is clear about Dmitri: he is completely loyal to his dragons, his king and their oath to protect humans. He's a really good guy and I liked that he and the other kings were easy to relate to and did not overly rely on their paranormal abilities.
Faith is quite hard to get a read on. Beyond her dedication to her career, the only thing I can say about her is that she is very independent and is an okay character.
I wish I had a chance to read the previous books before I read this one because I loved this book but it felt like being dropped in the middle of a tornado without warning. What does fate have in store for the kings, their mates and their enemies? Who will come out on top in the end? Will evil triumph over good?
Ms. Grant definitely knows how to craft a complex story-line to enthrall readers. I have more questions than answers and I just want to catch up on the series as quickly as possible. BTW, can we get Con's story already because I'm not sure I can survive the suspense.
FIRESTORM is amazing and I can only recommend grabbing the entire series as quickly as you can.
OK, so I probably should not have started this series here, but I did, so add that as a general disclaimer.
We join Dimitri, the dragon king for his long-ago evacuated dragons. He's a little stir crazy since they've been on lock down due to some unintended attention they've recently gotten. They have seemingly bad guys coming at them from all sides. There's the dark who are essentially evil and trying to cause trouble. There's the light who are trying to work some sort of angle by aligning with them. There's their ex-dragon king friend who is working some sort of deception involving a look alike. And that's just all stuff that has already been set in motion before the book even starts!
Dimitri is called to take care of removing remains from an archaeological site that may or may not have uncovered a dragon (dragons are still hidden in this world). Seems pretty straightforward until he meets the lead archaeologist, Faith. Faith is completely absorbed in her world, so much so that she needs protection in order to not get attacked by the numerous forces that are at play just because she found a dragon. These two might not seem so well matched, but the chemistry really manages to bring them together. Getting introduced to the world of the dragon kings definitely brings more into Faith's life than she could ever imagine. Starting here just makes me want to go back and see what else I missed.
Firestorm is an adult paranormal romance by Donna Grant. It is the tenth book in the dark kings series. I have not read any of the previous books in the series, but they can each be read as standalones. I do have to say, I feel like this series would be better read in order. Yes, this book can work as a standalone, but I feel like I would have a much better idea of the world if I had read the previous books. That being said, I did really enjoy Firestorm. I found it to be sexy and a great read.
Firestorm starts out with our main character, an archeologist, discovering a dragon skeleton. Right away I was hooked into the story. I loved Faith and I really, really loved Dimitri. I admired how determined Faith was, and I really enjoyed the back and forth between her and Dimitri. Dimitri is super interesting himself. I loved seeing his inner struggle with the human v. dragon side and the way that influenced his interactions with faith. Plus, the romance was awesome. The perfect mix of intense and sweet.
Bottom line: If you are a fan of adult paranormal romance, I would reccomend the Dark King series. However; I would not start with Firestorm. Donna Grant is a master storyteller I while I think you can safely pick up and start with any book, you may be confused from time to time on world elements. I think you would do best to read this series in order. I wish I had. Either way, I really enjoyed Firestorm and I can’t wait to go back and read the Dark Kings series from the start. Fans of long series will love this one.
The Dark Kings and the dragons within have been a favorite of mine since I began the series. I know a couple of times I have wondered if I shouldn’t have gone back to read the two series that spun off into this one, but I’ve normally picked up enough that I can figure out what is going on. There is a new character and a new magic that appears in Firestorm that refers to the previous series and I’m kind of nervous that I’m going to get lost. So far it’s been good, but we will see what Dragon Burn brings.
I liked Dmitri. He is a calm and sensible dragon. His pain at the loss of his dragons and his failure for one of them is heartbreaking. You can see he truly loved his dragons. I know all the dragons did, but Dmitri’s guilt and loss really drive that home.
Faith I’m not so sure about. For a scientific mind, she seemed to take Dmitri’s secret and the whole Dragon life without a lot of dramatics. I know she believes that she has found a dragon, and that may have helped her open-mindedness along. I don’t know, she seemed so much more reserved than I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, the sex scenes were still hot. Faith just opened up and was so trusting so quick. Maybe she just seemed a bit naive for the whole situation.
Things get really hairy once we get back to Draegan and I was shocked at how far the Kings go when magic hits them. Most of the time, you see a character able to calm their mate just with a touch or whatever. But that is not the case here and I think some things go a little far. Although, we may have learned some interesting information concerning our King of Kings.
There were scenes with Con dealing with his problem with Usaeil and actually working with Rhi. Their interactions make me somewhat question their relationship, but Rhi’s dragon is still a mystery that will keep me scouring the pages looking for clues. We see some of the carry over from the Dark Alpha books, although the Reapers do not play a big part in the book.
I thought that Firestorm did not really move the Ulrick / Dark Fae plot along very well. We see a couple of scenes with the bad guys, along with an introduction to another player for Ulrick’s side. However, there is not much confrontation or interaction between the dragons and their enemies. It does appear they have a new enemy, but I’m curious to see whether it really is a new enemy or the new character Ulrick has brought in. There is also some strife between Ulrick and Merrick which might complicate each other’s plans on how they think they are going to bring down the King of Kings.
It seems new problems have cropped up with not too much movement on the old. I found the romance between Faith and Dmitri was ok, but not as hot as I expected. I think it was just my view of Faith. However, the ups and downs in their relationship kind of shocked me and I was riveted at how far each one was going to let the other go without forgiveness. Whether they would stay together after it all.
Firestorm was a really good installment of the Dark Kings series and we see a little bit of everyone. Pieces dropped here and there. Alliances forming and preparations to move forward. I really can’t wait for the next installment to see how much farther we get into the stories of the new enemy, Ulrick, Merrick and the Dark!
I can no say enough about how much I love author Donna Grants writing. There is not one book in any of her series that has not broken my heart and put it back together. But this book kept my heart wide open in pain as I read the interaction or lack of interaction between Rhi and Con. There were times I had to quit reading it because my feelings got so intense when they were on the pages I read. This book is not about their story though but if the reader hasn't read the other books to this series they will want to read their story to fully understand how I feel.
Dimitri and Faith are the perfect complement to each other in this book. Faith comes across as an extremely intelligent woman who doesn't do relationships but has a very soft heart for injustices. Dimitri on the other hand is a quiet observer who doesn't necessarily like humans though he protects them. How their belief systems were expanded upon to create an opening for them to care for each other is handled brilliantly. It's believable and well timed within the story line.
As always the descriptives in this book were flawless and drew me fully into the story and the mysteries they are solving. There is a lot of background alliances going on creating more intrigue for the readers and the reader will be satisfied with the ending and how it leads to the next book in this series.
I give this 5 STARS for making me so emotional.
The find of a lifetime!
Faith might not know it but her fate has been destined to intersect with those few dragon kings left on earth. When she inconceivably chooses the one cave on Fair Isle that contains a dragon skeleton she irrevocably ties her destiny to the one king who called the Isle his own. Centuries have passed since the majority of dragons fled earth leaving behind the dragon kings. Each king verified that their dragons left the realm and that no remains were left for discovery. So who is this mysterious dragon left in a cave Dimitri knows he searched all those years ago? How did he die? How did his remains end up in the cave? And finally, how did Faith know to select this specific cave out of all the caves on the Isle? Just a few questions that will have Dimitri bent on answers rather than immediate disposal… and if a certain anthropologist stirs feelings he never dreamed possible… let’s just say the two of them have found the find of a lifetime in each other.
Firestorm is a great addition to the Dark Kings series. There is plenty of sensual build up and steam between Faith and Dimitri. If you’re looking for a great romance with dragons, fae, and druids you’ll love this series. I would warn you, however, that while Firestorm is a stand alone romance there are places in the storyline that you might feel lost as the ongoing series story line is developed. I know that I got lost a time or two when scenes were presented involving other series characters, the series villains or when series history was alluded to. For the most enjoyment, you might want to start at the beginning.
FIRESTORM is larger-than-life as are all of author Donna Grant's Dragon King books. So many secrets are revealed and so many left unanswered. Trust is tested and earned with each page turned. If there is one thing that a reader can count on from anything Ms. Grant writes it is that she always gives her readers a number of twists and turns while leading us where we want to be.
This is Dimitri and Faith's story without a doubt but as they work toward being together the enemies of the Dragon Kings are working their evil on everyone. I must admit I found it a little sad listening to Dimitri talk about the day they sent their dragons away for their own protection ... I never thought of them as family members before but his story brought to heart the sadness and pain of that day. Faith for some reason took me a bit to like, but then I am very protective of my Kings and wanted to make sure she was good enough for him. There are a few moments that had me wondering, due to a spell cast on an item, but in the end she works out perfectly for him and the others.
There is still so much happening but the way this story is written and the ability Ms. Grant has in pulling her readers in keeps it from being chaotic and has the reader a little stunned when they get to the last page and realize they had read every word ... and want more. I enjoyed FIRESTORM immensely and look forward to the next, and next and next in this series

Donna Grant has done it again! I am in love with the couple that is Dimitri and Faith. Initially was not sure if I was going to be a fan of Dimitri because he seemed to dead set against humans in general and Faith in particular but he very quickly figured out Faith isn't like others he had met, she was special. Faith on the other hand immediately felt a connection to Dimitri but didn't want that connection make her lose focus on the dragon skeleton she was excavating from the archaeologic dig she was in charge of. Dimitri seems to deal fairly well with the challenges in his path. He still feels guilt that one of his dragons was left behind, the dark are on a path to remove the skeleton and all who stand in their way and his connection to Faith seem to keep Dimitri on his toes. Faith truly seems to take Dimitri's dragon king status and all the enemies he has in stride. Her commitment to Dimitri and the care of the skeleton is amazing to watch as they fight the enemies that come to the surface yet again. I truly enjoyed watching Dimitri and Faith grow in their relationship together. I can't wait to see which dragon king is next.
Faith has lived a lonely life and since her mom passed digging up history and fossils has become her life. For once she is excited about something that she discovered on Fair Isle ...a dragon remains, but not everyone is happy about it.
On a faraway place called Dreagon where the Dragons kings live Con the King of the Dragon kings is worried because all dragons live or dead were to be removed from there so that the mortals would forget they existed. Con has decided that Dmitri will go as it was his home so it must be one of his dragons. What he doesn't expect when he gets there is to be struck by his attraction to Faith and hers to him.
Faith doesn't really date because it would just lead to heartache but something about this man has her twisted up in knots. When Dmitri decides instead of just destroying the dragon he will let Faith dig around a bit until mortals start to die at the hands of the Dark, a group of Fae that love you till your heart dies. When one of them pushes Faith to her death Dmitri is forced to show his Dragon form just to save her and risks discovery. When Faith realizes what he is it doesn't change her opinion of him at all in fact the scientist in her wants to know more about the man and the dragon. When they decide to go back to Dreagon together and start to move the bones Dmitri gets a weird feeling that he can't seem to shake and when they get to his home even weirder things begin to happen.
The book left me in a cliffhanger and I am not sure if more are coming or not but there is a lot more story to tell, and I am hoping Faith and Dmitri get a happily ever after.
Dr. Faith Reynolds is an archaeologist on a dig when she stumbles upon something that makes her questions everything she knows. As a woman of science, Faith knows that there is noway that this mythological creature can exist. Dimitri has only one goal, to protect the secret of the Dragon Kings, and nothing will deter him from this goal. So when Faith's path crosses his, he is completely thrown off balance. Feeling things for each other that they have never felt before, an all-consuming passion. But when Faith learns Dimitri's secret, can she learn to love the man and the dragon?
I was swept away by this unique world filled with wondrous creatures and remarkable characters. I was captivated by the diverse beauty that enriched this adventure and the masterful story that was being told. Donna Grant truly knows how to write an amazing novel with many subplots and make it flow so easily.
Firestorm is a wonderfully crafted romantic fantasy that will capture your heart and mind. It's action packed, romantic, adventurous, and filled with fantasy. The world was wonderfully crafted and filled with such fantastic characters. There is an undeniable attraction to this novel and the characters in it. The whole novel was splendid to read, from beginning to end.
Even though I have not read the rest of the books in the Dark Kings series, I still enjoyed reading Firestorm. I do have to admit though that at times I was a bit lost. Even though this can be read as a standalone, I suggest reading the rest of the series first.
If you are a fantasy or romance lover (like myself) than I highly recommend you check out this book. You will be unable to pass up reading on this undeniably amazing book once you get your hands on it.
This is not my usual genre but I really enjoyed the story. This is a incredible romantic fantasy story. This book is packed full of wonderful characters. This book has a complex story line that just sucks you in till the end of the book. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone read. I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended
Dmitri, King of the White Dragons is being sent back to his old home on Fair Island. An archeologist, Dr. Faith Reynolds, has uncovered dragon bones, proof that the dragons exist. This is something that can’t be let out into the public. When Dmitri gets there, he finds that for the first time ever, he’s found a human he can’t resist.
I’ve read most of this series, so i was excited to get approved for this book. When I started reading it, much of the build up was like the others, making it a little slow. However, at about 50% into the book, the author gives a bigger look into Con, the King of Kings, as well as an update on Rhi, my absolute favorite character of the series. From then it moves pretty steady with some pretty good twists, continuing my absolute love of this series and this author. I really can’t wait for Rhi and Con to each get their own books. I highly recommend.
I was more than excited at the prospect of reading this book. Unfortunately, I missed my chance due to a technical glitch that could not be resolved in time. This series sounds remarkable; I wish I'd known about it before now. I'm all over it!
