Fast paced and action packed. I could not put it down. Well written with hero's and heroins you will fall in love with. Waiting not so patiently for the next book 😁
If this series were a TV show, I would be glued to my TV every single episode. My word. Dragons, romance, intrigue and hot guys. And not mention a ton of fae and all their trouble making. Yeah. Perfection.
When Faith stumbles upon the bones of one of the white dragons, Dmitri is sent to discover as to why it's there. All of them were supposed to be destroyed to sent away. But now that there's one here, they must discover who left it there and why.
So many questions still need to be answered, but we are getting closer. I can feel it.
Rhi's story still has me flipping pages quickly. I am here for her. I want to know what's going on with her.
Donna Grant has long been a favorite author of mine and she never disappoints me. Dmitri and Faith reached out and drew me right into their story. I do hope someday to find out which dragon king broke Rhi's heart and if Con will ever fall in love... then there is Balladyn can he be saved from the dark and what of Ulrik I still hope there could be a HEA for him. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Review will be on the blog during release month.
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
I enjoyed Dimitri’s book. I liked that this storyline went in a different direction from prior books. I enjoyed learning more about the Dragon Kings history and the events that surround them forcing their dragons away. My heart broke for Dimitri when he realized what was in that mountain. I am on the fence about Faith. I neither loved or hated her. I felt she was somewhere in the middle of the road for me.
I will have to say the highlight of this story is the length conversation that Rhi & Con have. Yes, they actually have a conversation.
I have been loving this series (and the Reapers) but I am getting very antsy waiting for Rhi’s story and the final showdown. I know what I would like to have happen, but like all evil authors Ms. Grant is making us wait.
Until next time Kings.
Disclaimer:
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & St. Martin’s Press in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
This was another great addiction the series. The couple here was mostly believable and enjoyable. I loved how Con and Rhi are finally working together instead of fighting all the time too. The Kings find themselves with yet another enemy when a carving is brought back to Dreagan that was found in a cave with one of Dmitri's murdered whites. But it's not just any carving as it has a strong mix of different magics and the effects it has on those near it are extreme. Definitely a good thing that Rhi is around and still wants to help despite all that she's going thru.
Ulrik and Mikkel are on the move a little more now that Ulrik's secret about having all his magic back is out. Even with Mikkel thinking he has a secret weapon, Ulrik is not worried. I just wish the Kings would figure out that it's Mikkel they keep dealing with thinking it's Ulrik.
The only thing I wasn't happy about was that we didn't figure out Faith's family history or who her father might be in this book. It was something I was curious about. Guess I have to wait until the next book.
Ok so I absolutely loved this book, I am hooked more then ever!!!! Ienjoyed the storylines, everything was smooth and just flowed well. But.... The main story was not the romance between muscles and the Dr. I felt it was more in the direction of major plot that has slowly been introduced and unfolded in each book in this series. A few questions were kinda answered but I have a ton more.... and for God's sake please tell me Con will get a mate, and who in the hell is Rhi's king...... ugghhhhhh the suspense is killing me
Dimitri has protected the Dragon Kings for centuries. He is King of the Whites. When he meets Faith, an archeologist who finds a dragon skeleton on the island where Dimitri was born, he feels an immediate attraction to her. This is wrong because Dimitri has a problem with Dragons and humans being mates. Unfortunately, Faith feels the same attraction and they both must fight to bring the skeleton back home and stay together despite every obstacle placed in their way.
I love the dragon king series by Donna grant. This release is another Dragon King fallen in love with a mortal. Dmitri and Faith are great together. Love reading them finding their HEA.
I believe this is number 13 in the series. We get some answers in this one but we're left with a lot more questions as well. I'm not sure how many are in the series but it still going strong. The war gets closer. We get a lot of Rhi, Con, Ulrick and some Balladyn. Con shares some secrets and he and Rhi have some scenes together which I love! I no longer think Con is her lover but that leaves who? Maybe the mysterious V? Can't wait to find out.
Firestorm slowly moves the storyline along but I think we get a lot of answers in this on vs past releases. A must read for fans of the series. Looking forward to where Donna Grant takes the story next
I am a big fan of paranormal romance and love long series where I can immerse myself in its supernatural world and characters. I can't believe that I didn't know about Donna Grant's Dark Kings series. Dragons, Fae and Druids. Not to mention all that scorching chemistry...It surely is enough to make any paranormal romance fan swoon. And even though this was the first book I read I will definitely be reading the previous books of the series.
Dimitri is a dragon king. As king of the whites he is sent to the Isle of Fair when a skeleton of a dragon is discovered there. There is already speculation about the existence of dragons and the dragon kings are determined to keep their existence a secret. So it is up to Dimitri to make sure that the skeleton never sees the light of day and make sure everyone involved in the dig forget about what they discovered. What Dimitri didn't expect was the intense and magnatic attraction that he feels for the leader of the dig, archaeologist Dr. Faith Reynold.
Faith has always had a warm spot for dragons. Maybe it is the fact that she was surrounded by figures and pictures of dragons growing up, as her late mother had a great love for the mythical creatures. But even she can't believe that she stumbled upon the find of a lifetime. Something that will change everything, not only for her, but also for the world. And even though she is met with a lot of doubt and ridicule, she is determined to unearth the dragon, or what remains of it. But when strange things start happening and forces she can't seem to explain start interfering with her work, she finds that somethings just can't be explained by science. Especially not the attraction she feels for Dimitri, or Muscles, as she likes to call him in her mind. The man that was sent to her to protect her and and the site of the dig.
A world full of intrigue, mystique and a new point of view on history. Loved every page of it. A beautifully written series with heroes that will leave you breathless! Can't wait to see what will happen next!
Three and a half
I remember starting this series with high expectations and I wasn't disappointed but then if honest I got a little bored as the stories seemed to almost follow a pattern at times. I stopped reading these and tried her newer series about Reapers and the crossover got me wondering just how far (if at all) the Dragon Kings have progressed. So here I am having read the story of Dimitri the King of the white dragons and how meeting Faith an archaeologist turns his world upside down. Dimitri has one job to do and that's destroy the bones that Faith has discovered but Faith has a reverence for her find that surprises him and when old enemies show up Dimitri doesn't hesitate to put everything on the line . Yet there's a mystery inside the cave, a long forgotten secret that is waiting to be told and its discovery is only the beginning!
I'm a little lost for words here as I did enjoy this book but it's ending leaves me thinking is that it? Yes I understood the almost insane attraction between the couple although as a romance it did feel rushed but this author knows how to build heat and boy do Dimitri and Faith burn! There's so much going on around though as numerous threads are picked up with old adversary Ulrik still up to no good yet even he has to watch his back now ! I'm sorry but I'm still screaming for the big reveal concerning Rhi, light fae ( for now!) ally to the Dragon Kings and yes Balladyn seems to almost have her where he wants her . Yet even more screwed up is the Light Queen and Cons relationship and trust me it's not a complicated world as each component is dealt with in simple terms but it's just such a tangled mess. The author has added layer upon layer and as this book ends as a reader I kind of want to pull my hair out!
I've checked and there will apparently be about twenty or more books in this series which obviously means the big players whose books we really want are going to be a long time coming. Con, Ulrik and Rhi are looking like being near the very end, sigh. I have suspicions but obviously I like others have to wait and that's why I'm not sure if I will continue this series again or just wait a while until nearer the end. Yet I must state I really did enjoy this particular book , it's just the bread crumb approach and constant muddying the waters that leaves this reader frustrated
This voluntary take is of a copy provided by the publisher and these are my honest thoughts
Love blooms amid revered bones…
This is the tenth book in the Dark Kings series.
As the king of the white dragons Dmitri sent his kindred over the magical bridge between realms to save them eons ago. He searched for those remaining that needed help to cross and then removed evidence of their existence for those who’d died but he seems to have missed one and the guilt of his failure and how it could have happened drive him for answers now when a skeleton is found on the isle they once called home. Hearing of the archaeological find and recommended by a druid friend of the kings Dmitri is sent as protection for the site and to destroy the remains before the world press learns of valid proof that dragons are real. The female archaeologist is protective of the find and she’s not like most women. Human women have never been of interest to this dragon king preferring the fae when the need arises but there’s something about this woman, how she looks at the world and the reverent care she gives the skeleton that intrigues him and alters his mission.
A deep gut feeling led Dr. Faith Reynolds to choose the one cave over others that held a skeleton of a creature not seen before that she believes is that of a dragon and not some dinosaur. Her deceased mom was fond of the mythical creatures having many collectibles of them so if anyone could recognize dragon bones it would be Faith but she’ll have to excavate the full skeleton for proof and that will take time, it’s a delicate and to her loving process that leads her to the truths of the past. What’s different about this dig is the stunning muscular man who arrives to protect them, he’s a delicious distraction.
Two forces are interested in the skeleton, the dark want the bones to prove to the world the existence of dragons to help bring them down and the dragons want the bones to continue hiding their existence. To protect the woman and the bones this dragon king might have to share his secret, how will she react? Fate could not have found a better mate for Dmitri than Faith, a child of a woman who loved all things dragon with an unknown father, there’s a mystery to her sire making her genealogy of definite interest to this reader, was it fate or was there some plan at work around her birth? The way Faith looks at the world makes her perfect for a dragon king, what is of utmost importance to her is truth, no matter how outrageous that truth might be she can accept it. Dmitri is a most interesting dragon king, he can easily relate to issues on the sides of the light and the dark yet he’ll honor his oath.
Wow! This was a great suspenseful action filled installment with a sweet sexy romance. The intricate background story line continues to unravel and deepen, the more we learn the more questions arise, many things have been set in place that will inevitably collide into a firestorm against the dragon kings, who will be the victor in the coming battles? With malevolent magical artifacts in play the stakes have risen dramatically and there may be a new player on the battlefield. This reader wishes the next book was available now.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.
The story inches forward towards the epic battle between Con and Ulrick that's kept readers on tenterhooks for quite a few books now. New alliances are being forged and old enmities being put to rest that will keep readers engaged in this story as well as wondering what's coming down the pike next. Even Con has given up fighting the inevitable as yet another dragon king succumbs to love and finds a mate.
Faith Reynolds is a renowned archeologist who against all odds finds a dragon's skeleton buried in a cave. Dimitri is dispatched to destroy the skeleton before Faith can prove beyond a shadow of doubt of the dragon's existence. I love how Faith refers to him as "muscles" through out the story as he takes up body guarding duties of her delectable body while plotting how to keep his secrets while keeping her safe.
The dark fae are around but in much fewer numbers though they are still responsible for the deaths of some of the people on Faith's team and creating a situation that causes Dmitri to expose his presence. Rhi's character continues to develop as well as her affair with Balladyn who seems to be ready for his end run to become King of the Dark Fae. For the first time we see a very different side of Con. All these developments will definitely intrigue readers though most of anything remains shrouded in mystery.
What brought Faith to the small Scottish Island that she settles on for her dig? What made her chose the cave in which the dragon skeleton lay? How did one of Dimitri's white dragon get left behind when he had made every effort to locate and help his dragons across the rainbow bridge and dispose of all his dead? These questions remain even as the story concludes and I hope we get some of these answers as the story continues however there are other magic spelled artifacts that seem to have an impact on Dimitri and some of the other kings including Con.
As Alice once said "It gets curiouser and curiouser" !
Mmm.. dragons.. Love dragons.. this one I will admit didn't catch me as easily as I had hoped.. however the storyline once it did catch me was wonderful. It was a bit slow... the characters were interesting.. Faith was a strong and intriquing human woman who didn't know what she was getting into. It was a good story and I'm glad i got to review it
Loved Dimitri and Faith and the set-up for this one,. Also loved the additions to the over-arching story and of course all the drama with Con and the Faerie Queen (can't remember her name). This is such a great series!!! But then all of Donna Grant's series are great.
I am totally in love with the Dragon Kings and really do need to have one of my own! I loved this book which is the latest in the series, it drew me in and kept me completely engaged until the end. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy books, believe me these Dragon Kings beat vampires, witches and wizards hands down! Already looking forward to the next book and working my way though any books I have missed too, cannot get enough of them! 5 stars no hesitation!!
I don’t know the words to tell you how great this book is. I wont go into detail about the plot as I hate spoilers.
The first couple chapters immerse you in the history of the kings and gives you the basis of the conflict. This is for those that haven't read every other book in this series.
Ms. Grant then jumps in with both feet as the story unfolds and takes you on a ride you gladly hold on for.
While immersed in Firestorm you find yourself waiting for what's on the next page. When you get to the part where you meet up with characters from past books, you feel like you have walked into the living room of a good friend after a long vacation. You haven't seen these people in months and everyone is waiting for you to arrive. They are ready to catch you up on what has been going on.
The scotch an laughter is flowing, relaxing and welcoming.
As you speed to the end of the book emotions run high and low. You are then in turn mad at some characters and glad others do what they do.
Don’t miss it, you will regret it if you do.
I was thinking I was really going to enjoy this book ....... I was wrong sadly.
It was not necessarily bad but it was like a slice of life with a decent beginning and a decent story but it went almost nowhere. At the end of the book you had a jerky romance story , pieces from obviously previous books that did little but leave you confused and an overall depressing vision of the future ...... and then it ended, no resolution of pretty much anything.
This was not a cliffhanger, it was just a story that stopped and left you with a feeling of being duped into buying a book that left you wishing you had read something else.
Maybe if the author ever finishes this series I might pick it up to see the resolution but from what I see here she is going to drag readers along through several more books and I don't care for the waste of my time nor for the seemingly unending drama. This book was more like a good story that you just turned the page to keep reading and that next page just said THE END.
Bottom line: This is a series that one day you might want to do a marathon reading once it is finished but getting into this world/story at present will just be a frustrating experience in this reviewer's opinion. 3 Stars more for what it could be than what it actually was sadly.
This is a good read and my first in this series. This book shifts from multiple viewpoints and locations during the same period of time. However you're not confused, the author does an excellent job bringing the reader up to date without having the characters spending most of the book recapping as filler. The character development is interesting because you really don't know where many of the characters stand and what and who they will choose in the end. I don't know if I could have started from the beginning of the series and stuck with it, considering there are so many books. But I will be continuing now that I have started.
It's been awhile since I've read a story about dragons, so I jumped on the chance to read this book. I admit that I haven't read the rest of the books in this series, so I was at times a bit lost, especially when it came to the love drama between the Dragon king and the Fae queen and his previous lover. But aside from that I liked the story. It's action packed but with enough sweet scenes that made the romantic in me satisfied. I loved how Dimitri grew to like Faith and also showed her things that the normal human side of her would never imagine existed. Faith is someone who strives for the truth. The journey to uncover secrets is an adventure, but this time it's going to be the adventure of her life. The power play of the dark fae and the dragons made for in interesting read, also the various POVs were a great addition to the plot. I really liked how the story turned out, so I would definitely recommend it. :)
I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN....Donna Grant's books keep getting better. Dimitri goes home to find out about the dragon skeleton that was found. Only to find Faith who he has to protect from the dark. A must read. Can't wait for the next one.
