Come Sundown has what all of Nora Roberts' fans have come to expect: excellent dialogue, well-developed characters, intriguing storyline, interesting location, strong family ties, romance and suspense all put together with a master's hand. Carve out a good chunk of time to read, because once started it's impossible to put down!
I loved it! As always, Roberts provides new and different plotlines with each title, adding twists and turns to keep a reader engaged. Seemingly plucked from the news, Come Sundown offered layers of depth, sadness, and tragedy not always included in her books, but the requisite "happily every after" brings the story to the satisfying conclusion that readers look for and count on -- a winner!
Love and mystery are what Nora Roberts does best. Come Sundown is another wonderful book by this talented author. This is a story about family and what they go through while owning a dude ranch in Montana. You will cry and laugh as I did reading this story. Would love to see a sequel.
This was my favorite Nora Roberts book yet. I loved the setting, on the ranch with the horses and the big farm house and the family that sticks together. The Bodine family settled in my heart and made me keep wanting to read about them. I loved the mystery of Alice Bodine and what happened to her and wondering if she would escape. I loved how the family came together and rallied around Alice while she healed. Of course, one reads Nora Roberts for the romance and she delivers in that regard as well. Bo and Cal are a great couple, and I love how their story evolves. Well done!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. Here is my honest review.

I think this book tried to be too much. It could have been separated into a few separate stories, each given a bit more attention to detail and story development and it would have worked much better. As it was, There seemed to be a few things happening at the same time, none of them were very well developed and instead, we spent a lot of time reading about the day-to-day operations and scheduling concerns of the ranch. There were many times when I was frustrated reading about who was taking which horse out with which customer on a trail ride. I understand how infusing a story with everyday activities adds some dimension to a story, but here, it was happening too often and it became a factor in my enjoyment of the story.
I had problems with some of the characters, too. Bodine starts off as a very structured person and before too long, and without much pressure, she loosens up completely. That seemed a little to contrived. Why build her up to be one way if only to have her change so quickly? And Alice. I'm no expert on how a person's behaviour is affected by trauma, but why does she behave like an autistic child?
I could go on but instead I'll just sum up by saying that a writer with the experience that Nora Roberts has should be able to do better. I am disappointed. I am a fan of the J.D. Robb In Death series and based on that, I *know* that she can write better stories, with good attention to detail and characters that have impact. This? I don't know what this is, but it is no where near what I was expecting.
I read Nora Roberts for years, in fact I hardly miss any of her releases. I didn't yet finished the last trilogy and a few of her earlier works, but that's all. The other ones I read and multiple times (most of them).
The stand alone of the middle of the year usually takes me 2-3 days to finish, but I'm sick, so I'm not having the focus to read new books lately, but I really could finish this one - despite the fact that took me exactly 10 days. That's how much I liked this book.

That being said, let's talk a bit about the book.
I'm not american, never went to the USA, but I really felt for the characters. I'm not, obviously saying that I identified with a cowboy. Lol! But I was easily transported to that setting and saw the world through their eyes.
I love each one of the characters, well, not Sir, of course, but as a villain, he was pretty, well, unfortunately realistic.
I can't even imagine what Alice, her mother, all her family felt when she went away and when she came back in that situation.
And Easy I knew from the start who he was and was pretty predictable that was he who was trying to repeat what he was taught when he was so young - and failing miserably.
And it was obviously, as well, that Chelsea was that from the start to be the target. But I confess that I totally didn't expect what happened until the changes of keys in the resort.
And the ending was just perfect, as always.
It was a fun, not mellow, but romantic read. Very sad sometimes. And sometimes, like many of her books predictable, but I really don't care. It felt really good to read it. I loved it. :)
P.S.: I read an ARC provide by Netgalley, still to read the finish copy, but I don't believe much will change.
Come Sundown was a fairly typical Nora Roberts book. I enjoyed the strong female characters and deep family bonds. Some of the romantic relationships progressed a little too fast to be believable, but overall it was an enjoyable read.,
This was a great book with great character development. The only character I disliked were the bad guys, but felt that the "brother"/"son" left something to be desired. However overall I greatly enjoyed it.
Nora Roberts introduces the Bodine-Longview clan, another family the reader will wish they were part of, running a ranch and resort in Montana. The family, especially the women, are strong and smart and amazingly pull together through horrific times in this suspenseful story.
I am not sure if I liked this book the moving from past to present at time I found confusing at times. The emotional of the high and the low was sometime removed me from the story. I found the romance between the main character not as interesting as trying to figure out who was the kidnapper. Enjoy the book have to admit it took time.
It felt off in this book. Not the normal Nora magic. The storyline was way too predictable.
If the only thing you think of when you think of Nora Roberts is light romance, then ooh, boy, you're due for another think. I believe this is my second romantic suspense book from Nora Roberts, and it was so well done. The setting was impeccably described, and we spend enough time with the characters to be very invested in the Bodine/Longbow family, as well as in Alice's story, being told in flashbacks along side the contemporary story happening at the ranch. Of course, the romance aspect is well done (this is romance queen, Nora Roberts, after all), but the family story is just as important and interesting. When it came to suspense, Alice's story in particular was what kept me turning pages late at night, and while I had a general idea of where things were going, the story was so engrossing I had to find out. The book is perhaps slightly too long for the story, but overall was a story well told.
I need something new from Nora to keep me interested. This was the same old story. Too much dialogue and not enough to keep me interested.
I thoroughly enjoyed the new romantic suspense novel by Nora Roberts and feel her move to a new publisher was a good one! There are multiple multi-generational characters and both past and present story lines that eventually come together, and I truly cared about all of the characters. The central romance between Bodine and Callen moves along nicely and feels real. The serious and heartbreaking issues raised are explored with sensitivity and care. Well done, Ms. Roberts!
Bodine Longbow runs the resort side of her family's land, the Bodine Ranch. Her father and brothers run the ranch side while her mother seems to run them all. Bodine's life is interrupted by the return of one of her brother's old friends, Callen Skinner, who had been in Hollywood training stunt horses. It's also interrupted by the body of a dead woman and Bodine and Cal are the ones who discover her.
Bodine's story is intercut with that of her aunt, Alice. It seems Alice was always sort of a rebel. She ran away on the day of Bo's mother's wedding. Alice was on her way back to the Bodine Ranch when she was kidnapped and kept in a basement. We see both the lives of Bo and Alice; as Bo falls in love and as Alice slowly loses herself.
This book reminds me of a classic Nora Roberts and I think most of her faithful readers will really enjoy this book. It was one of the better books I've read set in Montana but it kept reminding me of so many of Nora Roberts' other books. A faithful Roberts reader, this book immediately hit me as a mix of Montana Sky and The Obsession; as soon as the villain was introduced, I knew who it was.I was disappointed that there were so many B-plots that took away from the main story. It seemed a bit patchwork. At least the heroine got to save herself this time.
Three and a half stars
This book comes out May 30
As light reading I enjoyed this book. It was a bit long and drawn out. All the characters, apart from the bad guys obviously, were perfect and beautiful, a bit unrealistic, but that's fiction for you.
I've been reading Nora Roberts for a really long time. Over two decades. Her books are some of my all time favourites. Lately, though, her books have been missing some of that spark for me and she's no longer a MUST read. This book took me back to all the things I love about Nora Roberts.
I can't even pin down what those things are. But I was drawn into the story from the start, and I loved all the characters. I guess maybe that's one of those things I love. Ms. Roberts has the ability to write really amazing characters. And not just the hero and heroine. Her secondary characters can be just as interesting and well-rounded. I liked reading not just about Bodine and Cal, but also about Chase and Jessica and Rory and Chelsea. I liked learning about Bodine's family and getting to know the grannies.
I think the only real problem I had was that I figured out what was going to happen very early on. Then I just had to sit and wait for it to happen. And it took a really, really long time to happen. This books was just slightly too long I think. But overall a gripping and swoony read.
Another solid outing by Roberts. Bo and Cal are a strong couple dealing with the usual conflicts, etc. The supporting cast is also strong. I hope this is the start of a new series and we get to revisit some of these characters and their future development.
This is a story of the Bodine family and ranch in Montana and the people who live there. Its two very different storylines are woven together masterfully creating a tale of suspense, intrigue, murder, love, loss, and redemption. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it!
Nora Roberts has done it again....written a faced paced exciting novel. This time however she has given the book a slightly different feel as she has a character that deals with being held against her will and the fallout from that experience. Slight twists in the plot keep you on the edge for the entire book. Another great romantic suspense from Ms. Roberts!
