It wasn’t as if he’d been celibate since his divorce, but he’d made damn good and sure that every woman he’d been with knew he was a card-carrying member of the catch-and-release program.
Clutching his chest, Ronan staggered back a couple of steps. ‘This is not just a fishing rod, Hope. It’s a work of art; it’s like the Mona Lisa of rods.’
Talk about JD – people love talking about their pets, haven’t you noticed that? Last week that woman from the orange cabin, Evelyn, bawled like a baby when she told me about her cat dying last year. Last year! Then she tells me her husband died four months ago – nothing. Not a single tear. I’m tellin’ you, Ro, you need to use that dog. He’s your ticket to stardom.
My Review:
Laura Drewry has created an extended family comprised of a compelling collection of quirky characters who were also highly likable, clever, witty, hard-working, and relatable everyday people with deep flaws and hard years of parental damage. However, her well-chosen and crafty arrangements of words cast this odd assortment in a surprisingly appealing, endearing, and addictively entertaining manner. I have been fascinated with and adored each and every member of this odd clan, but none no more than the new character of Hope. Hope was inexplicably drawn to the prickly Ronan before they actually met; she had become infatuated with his picture and the limited facts she had been given for her project. Hope was plucky and smart, and when flustered she was prone to spouting totally unrelated and obscure facts and bits of trivia - such as Texas horned toads could shoot blood out of their eyes. But she also had to prove herself on her first big assignment and a show featuring the small and out of the way O’Donnell fishing lodge was going to be a major challenge. I was also highly intrigued by her purse, which was much like Hermione Granger’s magical one as whatever anyone seemed to need, Hope was able to provide by digging around in her cavernous bag. The writing was unfailingly engaging, clever, highly amusing, insightful, and emotively heart-squeezing. Despite the fact that Ms. Drewry has run out of brothers to fix, I still want more.
Catch and Release is the concluding story of Laura Drewry’s Fishing for Trouble series - three books that chronicle three brothers who have returned home to run the Buoys, a fishing lodge located on a peninsula near Vancouver, British Columbia. Each of the stories focuses on one of the brothers, and how growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father and a mother who abandoned them affects their lives and relationships with each other and the women they learn to love.
On the Hook is the story of Liam, the middle brother and a former professional baseball player, who heads home to the lodge following his father’s death. With the help of his brothers and Kate, the woman he married after a wild weekend in Las Vegas - but then just as quickly divorced ten years earlier - they spend the spring making repairs and getting the fishing lodge back up and running.
Lured In is the story of Finn, the youngest brother and the “fish whisperer” of the group. The lodge is now open for business, but barely scraping by. They’ve managed to score a spot on a cable fishing show, which they’re hoping will increase bookings. As they prepare for the upcoming television show, Finn and Jessie - the young woman who has been helping run the Buoys since she and Finn were both 17 - discover that their feelings of friendship are becoming more after 13 years.
Catch and Release is the story of Ronan, the oldest brother. The single show that featured the Buoy was a hit, and now the cable station has offered the brothers a chance for a weekly show featuring their lodge. Everyone else is excited for the opportunity to put the Buoys on the map and potentially solve all their financial problems. Except Ronan, who is skeptical of the producers and protective of skeletons in his family’s closet.
With this final story, we have another charming book with endearing characters. How can you not love a woman who spouts random facts whenever she’s feeling nervous?! As with the two previous books, the author has masterfully created a story about brothers who have experienced a heartbreaking childhood, but have clawed their way into adulthood, doing their best to move forward and create a life that has happiness and love. While it was entertaining to read the bickering and fighting between Ronan, Liam and Finn, it was even more heartwarming to watch how they stand side-by-side to face all their challenges, encouraging each other along the way.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Fishing for Trouble series. I’ve loved the damaged men who work hard to earn the love of the women they want to share their life with. I’ve loved the strong women who are patient with their men, but also don’t let them get away with crap. I loved how these books were equal parts romance, but also a good family drama where everyone started out messed up, but heals and moves on.
I also loved how in this final book, the author gives the brothers some closure with the mother who abandoned them. I would have liked to read more of how each of the three brothers came to peace with the past, but I’m so glad that the situation was dealt with in a realistic way - with each of the brothers dealing with things in different ways, at their own pace.
I’m sad to say goodbye to Liam, Finn, and Ronan. All three books were well written, with charming, compelling characters and entertaining dialogue. It isn’t often an author does such a masterful job of combining heartbreak and humor, but with all three of the stories in the Fishing for Trouble series, that’s exactly what Laura Drewry has done
Hope Seaver, a up and coming tv producer and her film crew arrive at the Buoys, a fishing resort owned by Ronan O'Donnell and his brothers to film "Hooked".
Ronan, a hot, snarly, grumpy to the point kind of guy finds himself attracted to Hope, making the chemistry between these two sizzle.
Even though this is the third book of Laura Drewry's "Fishing for Trouble" series, it could stand on it own.
A great romantic read !

I generously received this ARC through Netgalley from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept, for a honest review.
Hope Seaver is an up-and-coming TV producer tackling the hardest gig of her career: a reality show set at the Buoys, a scenic fishing destination owned by three handsome, stubborn brothers. Liam and Finn O’Donnell are willing to tolerate her crew for the sake of the business, but Ronan would rather chew off a limb than open up on camera. Somehow Hope has to convince him of her good intentions—and stop herself from swooning every time Ronan walks into the frame.
Ronan knows that he’s the reason his brothers gave up their old lives to run the Buoys, and he needs to make it worth their while. So if this out-of-towner with the kind eyes and dazzling smile wants to give them the free publicity they desperately need, Ronan can’t say no. He just won’t let himself get burned again by a double-dealing woman. But what if Hope’s good-girl routine isn’t an act? When Ronan lets his guard down long enough to catch a glimpse of the real Hope, he likes what he sees—enough to give love another shot.
I want to know where Laura Drewry got all her "useless information" for this book lol!! Like do horny toads really bleed from their eyeballs? There were so many uncommon factoids in this book that I felt like I needed to write some down just to have on hand. Hope was so awkward she was hilarious at times. Is there actually a town in Canada called Climax? Or Dildo? Cause they need to change that ASAP. I'm not sure I'd want to live there if it were. The fact is, at times this was a heavy book. It was funny but it also had parts that were equally sad and made you want to cry. To find out why Hope is always so prepared broke my heart...I cried! Hope leaves nothing to chance...you're on a plane and nauseous - she's got mouthwash and crackers, she's also got some napkins and a puke bag. She's always prepared for everything in the giant bag that she takes everywhere with her. She meets Ronan - who I imagine looks like Jason Momoa because who don't we imagine looks like Jason?? Ronan is just a what-you-see-is-what-you-get type of guy. He loves the f-word and likes to use it frequently. Hope is a producer for a show about their family and the fishing lodge they own, so think Alaska: The Last Frontier and add in this storyline. After the first season, the shows producers decide to change it up and Hope coming in now as a newbie has to go and smooth over everything because Ronan's response to it all was essentially "F*** that!" What you get are two people who are really quite funny around each other and the family who you've met in the 2 previous books and already love. It's a quirky love story with a quirky hero and heroine and it works!
I was given a copy of this ARC from the publisher on Netgalley for a honest review. All of the above comments are my express opinions and no one else's.
4.5 stars -- I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.
I did not expect Ronan's story to be my favourite. And I'm still not entirely sure he does beat out Finn, but holy cow did he at least tie Finn. I really couldn't get a feel for Ronan at all, in the previous books, and so I guess I didn't quite know what to expect. Not only that, but you don't meet the heroine until this book, so I was just coming in blind to this story. And I ended up with the sweetest romance that just had me grinning all over the place. And then, because that's the way Ms. Drewry rolls, she had to get me crying at the end too.
Hope sold me on this story from the first line. And it wasn't just that it was because she was referencing a town in my home province of Saskatchewan, it was all her nervous fact-spouting. She was just quirky and adorable, and I could really vibe with her. I liked how she was an intriguing mix of shy and unsure at times, but bold and take charge/go after what she wants at others. I know that sounds too contradictory, but it really worked for her. It was like she wasn't afraid to acknowledge what she wanted, and then pull on her big girl panties and give it a go. And it made sense given her backstory. And she maintained that inner conflict right to the end. I wanted to stand up and cheer with how she dealt with Ronan at the end...Hope is my hero.
And Ronan. Yes, Ronan was gruff and grumbly and a bit short-tempered, and inarticulate...but OMG, he was just so freaking adorable inside. He made you want to hug him. You could almost feel his confusion, and the inner conflict going on inside of him. Each O'Donnell boy just surprises me with how much hurt they held inside, and I guess I just never really anticipated how hard it was for him as the eldest. And I LOVED that he was the cook!! I could just picture him in that apron, baking pies, and *drool* And then there's the addition of JD. Could you get any cuter??
But it was how he felt about Hope that really sold him for me. He was just as enthralled with her as she was with him, and watching them dance around each other, and blush and get flustered, and just GAH! It's everything I love about a sweet romance you know? And it's not that we don't get some steamy stuff, but it actually takes them quite a while to get there, and you really feel the love that develops between them. I think that moment on the boat fishing is what sold it for me. Well, the whole fishing scene. It really showcased who they each were, and how they would work together.
And it's funny, I wasn't getting too choked up with the backstories and was wondering if this would be less angsty (I do kind of wish that Hope's backstory had gotten more time or something...it was heartbreaking, but it was told so quickly that it wasn't as impactful). So I'm going along, and then BAM! Ms. Drewry hits you right between the eyes and I'm crying away (much to my husband's dismay and worry). So wait for it readers, it's a doozy. And I loved the way that twist hit. I didn't see it coming, and yet it was so necessary for the whole series. And I loved the explanation. It confirmed my suspicions, and was so real and accurate and heartbreaking.
So yeah, while this series may not have grabbed me from the first book, it really ended with a bang. My only complaint is that the cover does not look like the Ronan in my head at all...too young or something. ;)
Awesome contemporary romance. Ronan and his two brothers have struggled to move on in their lives. Their mom left when they were boys and their dad had issues. After difficulties in his own life Ro moved home to the Bouy's. A tv show is coming in to do a live reality show to help their business survive. Ro in particular has been angry at the world but women in general for many years. Hope arrives as the producer/director of the show and sparks fly between them. Hope has lived through her own hardships in life. Ms. Drewry did an awesome job building the characters and entertained readers with the ups and downs of living at and building a business on a small island. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley and chose to write a review.
Loved it. The last of the O'Donnell brothers not attached to a woman. He is jaded from his past and in no way wanting to be tied down like his brothers. He meets the new film crew and sparks are immediate between himself and the new producer. Of course it wouldn't be a good read without bumps along the way, however love always wins!
Liked this one a lot more than I thought I would! Great love-at-first sight, but still a bit of a slow burn. There's a huge development in this one that's the conclusion of a thread that ran through the first two books, and I think the emotional punch would have been greater if I read the first two, but I still loved it.
Hope and Ronan meet when she comes to the Buoys to shoot their episodes for the season. There is a new format and Ronan isn't happy with the new changes. He blew up on the phone when told of the changes and Hope doesn't quite know what to expect from him when she arrives. Ronan knows he can be quick to lose his temper and promises his brothers that he will try and control himself while filming. Hope and Ronan feel an instant spark but both are leery of relationships, especially with each other. Ronan thinks every woman who loves him will leave, and past life experience has shown him no differently. Hope has no family and longs for one. They both are in search of happiness but are at cross purposes. Ronan just wants to "catch and release" women from now on and Hope wants something lasting. It was sweet to see how they started to get to know each other. It was great how Hope took a huge risk and put herself out there in order to get Ronan to act on his feelings. I liked how, even though Ronan screws up big time, he goes after what he wants. I didn't like how the big twist occurred because it was just so malicious and wrong to do that to the O'Donnell family. I hated Hope taking the brunt of the anger and hurt that all of them were feeling. She didn't deserve it. I really did not like Jessie in this book and found her to be quite meddling. Overall a good book and am grateful to NetGalley for receiving an ARC for an honest review.
Loved, loved, loved!! I'm a huge fan of this series and I'm sorry to see it end yet I'm so happy to finally have Ronan's story. Laura Drewry did not disappoint with this one! Ronan is grumpy, gruff, and deliciously yummy. Hope and her quirkiness is perfect to balance him and bring a little happiness to his life. The chemistry between these two was sizzling and they won my heart immediately. This story has all the emotions and it's a book you don't want to miss. I highly recommend it.
WOW!!! I ABSOLUTELY loved this book. I because a fan of Ms Drewry when I read the first book of the series. Each and every one of the books is fantastic. Each is a stand alone , but trust me, it would be a disservice to yourself if you just stop at one .
The series features three brothers who have gone back to the Buoys , a fishing haven in the BC. Their childhood has not been a happy one, but all along they had each others. We have already had Liam’s and Finn’s stories, but now it’s Ronan, the oldest of them. From the 1st book, I was drawn to this soulful character, who frequently was grouchy and was the last to go back to the Bouys due to a disastrous marriage.
Their location is going to be used for a tv show and the new producer is Hope. Ronan is opposed to the series, but knows it will benefit their business. Little did he expect his life would change when Hope walked into it.
I will let others give you more on the story. But it is so much more than the plot.
It’s a book about family loyalty and the bond that exists between these three very imperfect men. That the experiences, abuse and heartaches they felt as youngsters , has molded them to the men they are today. That finding your soulmate does indeed heal the heart, or at least make it whole. That sometimes we judge without knowing the whole story and that hope, loyalty, and love is worth cherishing and holding close to your heart.
My one complain is that I will miss LIam, Finn and Ronan and their significant others.
So, thank you , Ms Drewry , for this heartfelt book and series. You are indeed one of a kind.
I was gifted this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Another amazing story by Laura Drewry. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I love this series so much & this book has only made me love it move. The series follows 3 brothers & their efforts to make their fathers fishing lodge a profitable business. This book follows Ronan the oldest & the hardest hit by their history. Ronan pretty much raised his brothers because their mother left & their father became an abusive drunk. We see early in the series that Ronan's life wasn't easy even after he left the island lodge but we now get a look inside the man that he is. He's scarred emotionally & until Hope sets foot on the island to film the series they are doing he doesn't ever see things changing for him. Hope hasn't had the greatest past either, surviving a car crash that killed her parents turns her into an always be prepared for anything person & a font of useless knowledge that she spouts when she's nervous. With their relationship growing in the time they're filming the only question is can Ronan truly trust & love her? As their season of filming comes to an end a surprise is thrust upon the brothers & it could possibly change their relationship with each other & also Ronan & Hope's. The laughter, the tears, the feeling of love & anger all brought to the surface of this story during the roller coaster ride of this book make it one of my favourites along with the others in the series. Very well written and definitely recommend this book.
I love Laura Drewry's books. The characters are genuine and their struggles make them relatable. Ronan, the quiet, serious, and somewhat mysterious brother finds his match in this one and is most definitely NOT willing to "catch and release." He's holding on tight to Hope, his brothers, and his allegiance to make their family business work. This is a great story and I look very forward to Laura's next book.
I was not the biggest fan of the first novel in this series, but I wanted to give the series and author another chance. Unfortunately, I have chosen to DNF this title. I was not able to relate to either or the main characters and thought the presence of the secondary characters overwhelmed the story.
it's always so sad to reach the end of a series, and catch and release, the conclusion of the fishing for trouble series by laura drewry is a bittersweet read in part because of this. this series has always been highly charged emotionally, with the o'donnell brothers holding in a world of hurt that has colored their relationships with each other and the women they love.
ronan might be the most damaged of them all. out of the three brothers we've spent the least amount of time with him. we know him to be withdrawn and yet also very temperamental, and inside his head there are so many emotions and feelings and pain that he cannot begin to express. and when he meets hope seaver, the new producer on the reality show being filmed at the buoys, there is a surge of fierce attraction that he can't deny. and the more time he spends with her, he starts to let go of all the pain and fear his previous relationship instilled in him.
because let's face it, ronan is dealing with massive abandonment issues. the o'donnell's were abandoned by their mother in their teens, their father abused both alcohol and his children, and his wife chipped away at his confidence, forcing him to live a life he never wanted, only to leave him in the end.
hope has her own issues to deal with, but they don't consume her the way ronan's do. but because she's overcome so much loss, she's better prepared to handle ronan's pain. and her coping mechanisms are quite endearing. when she gets nervous she quotes the most random facts she can. it's almost a compulsion, she can't stop herself. and this adds a degree of levity to the often heavy moments in the novel.
i loved spending more time in the world at the buoy's and i think ronan might very well be my favorite brother, and hope, my favorite heroine. everything wraps up so nicely here, and honestly i can't wait to see what world this author creates next, because she is so good at building characters and giving her stories emotional weight that elevates the love story.
Funny yet Angsty
Absolutely loved the opening scene. At times, laugh-out-loud funny, Hope has a habit of quoting random trivia at seemingly inappropriate moments when she’s nervous, and Ronan know a few bits of bawdy trivia himself. This novel is a heartwarming finish to the series about the tough Irish O’Donnell brothers and the gals they just can’t live without.
What I liked: It’s a sweet touching story about forgiveness and, of course attraction, with just the right amount of heat; excellent handling of sensitive subjects; fun dialogue and humor.
The sensitive subjects touch on: alcoholism, clinical depression/post-partum depression, domestic violence, homelessness, personal tragedy (car accident), loss of parents, survivor’s guilt, and the brothers drop the F-bomb regularly but it sort of becomes a running joke. All of these are handled really well without abusing the shock factor on the reader.
This is the third book in Drewry’s series of romances build around the O’Donnell family’s fishing tourist location, the Buoys. It’s a remote, old-style place in the Canadian wilderness that can only be reached by plane or boat. In this book the heroine, Hope Seaver, has been sent to the Buoys, for her first job as a lead TV producer for a reality series based there. One of the brothers who owns the Buoys, Ronan, has just returned there after getting out of bad marriage. He’s bitter and determined to resist his attraction to Hope. He also wants to guard his family’s painful secrets. Of course, keeping secrets when your family is the subject of a reality TV show.
I didn’t really get the appeal of this TV show, but then I’m not into fishing. Ronan is the typical tough and tormented romantic hero. He knows he owes his brothers for what they’ve given up to try to make the family resort a success so he has to go along with the TV show. Hope is quite a nice woman who is going out of her way to help the O’Donnells’ private lives and secrets. She seems way too nice for the sullen and reserved Ronan.
We know that, eventually, those secrets will eventually come out while Ronan will get out of his own way and recognize what a treasure he has in Hope so that the two can get together. Thee fun is in seeing how they reach that happy ending.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Hope is a TV producer working on a reality tv show involving three brothers who own a B&B style hotel and offers fishing destinations from a remote island. Hope and one of the brothers Ronan become close during the shows production and keep their relationship a secret from mostly everyone.
This is the third book in this series and I must say I think it was a good one. I liked the connection between the characters not just Hope and Ronan. The brothers have a tight knit bond and everyone is very welcoming to newcomers into their group. Great read.
This series just gets better and better as it goes. This story of Ronan and Hope was my favorite of the three. The two of them were both likeable and were fun characters to watch interact with each other. The emotional parts of the story were very well-written, so you felt the emotions along with the characters. Revisiting the characters from the 1st two books was enjoyable...seeing their relationships deepen and develop. As with all of the books, the interaction and deep affection among the 3 brothers was just as great to read as the romance that was developing between the main characters. Although all of the brothers are paired up now, I would love to see another book with these characters!
After the heavy thinking book that I just finished and reviewed the other day, I needed something that was semi-light and didn’t need me to think a ton about the plot and the characters. Catch and Release is such a book.
I actually really liked Catch and Release. After reading Finn and Jessie’s story in Lured In (and really wishing that I had read Liam and Kate’s story), I was very interested in seeing what type of woman who Ronan would go for. And I wasn’t surprised.
I absolutely loved Hope. She was always ready (but the story about why she was always ready was heartbreaking) and had these odd facts that she spewed when she was nervous. And Ronan made her nervous, so she was always spewing out facts.
I like Ronan too and I got to understand what his role was in the family. Not only was he Finn and Liam’s older brother but he was their protector from an abusive drunk of a father. Even him telling Hope about how he used to stuff Finn in cabinets or send him to their treehouse to get away from their Da was heartbreaking. I cried when he told Hope that.
The romance between Ronan and Hope was a slow burn. What I liked is that when they finally had sex, near the end of the book, the author chose not to go into it and let you use your imagination.
There is a huge twist in the story that I kinda sensed coming but when it happened, I was still a little shocked. I also didn’t blame Ronan for going off as he did. What did get me a little ticked off was how easily he blamed Hope for what happened and how Jessie, Finn and Liam fell right in line with him. All Hope wanted to so was to tell Ronan she had no clue and they wouldn’t let her. Which, I guess, in hindsight, was a good thing but still.
The whole reality TV angle, I didn’t like. I am not a fan of reality TV and what happened in the book was a prime example WHY I don’t like it. Talk about a crappy thing that Luka did and I was really surprised that Ronan didn’t pitch her off the dock.
The whole stowaway dog storyline was great and I thought the name Hope gave him was pretty fitting. I kinda giggled at it. See, growing up, I had a dog named J.D. but it was after the whiskey. I liked Hope’s abbreviation better…lol.
The end of the book was pretty standard and there were HEA’s all around for the boys. I do wish that they author had put something up about mental illness, like an afterward with a number or website to call.
How many stars will I give Catch and Release: 4
Why: I thought this was a pretty good romance with a good storyline.
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex, language
