An interesting blend of stories, recipes, and insight on creating genuine experiences. It was a nice visit to various homes throughout the world.
It is easy to get caught up in perfectionism when planning a get together, even among good friends. In Wabi-Sabi Welcome, Adams shows how to create a welcoming space and enjoyable time time using examples of her experiences in Japan, Denmark, California, France, and Italy. She includes practical ideas for entertaining without magazine glossy perfectionism, inspired by wabi-sabi, hygge, mellow out, c'est la vie, or insieme. In addition to general ideas for activities and decor, some recipe and meal ideas are included.
Wabi-Sabi Welcome is all about utilizing the beauty of imperfection in the world around us to create a welcoming environment for family and friends. In her book, Julie Pointer Adams has successfully portrayed the spirit of the Japanese Term wabi-sabi and how it is incorporated into Japanese living and entertaining. She shows beautiful examples how similar concepts are applied in Denmark, California, France, and Italy. Although Julie says that wabi sabi is difficult to put in words, she has exactly done that in her book. Julie's descriptions and the photographs in the book are a great inspiration for me to emulate a wabi-sabi lifestyle in my own home and create a welcoming space. I love the calming wabi-sabi color palette in the middle of the book and find the Practical Matters pages that summarize the concepts of each chapter very helpful. This book inspires me to look at my possessions from a different perspective. Luckily, a lot of items have made it in my home that have the wabi-sabi factor, like my hand thrown bowls in the kitchen. I will concentrate on those items and use them more often. The recipes in the book are simple and elegant, just right for entertaining. If you want to your guests feel at ease when entertaining, buy Wabi-Sabi Welcome and put what you learn from it into practice.
I loved this book. I've known about wabi-sabi for many years and always enjoy reading about it. This book is beautifully done and the photos are brilliant. I especially liked the authors take on Wabi- Sabi in different countries. I thought that was quite original. I think anyone who loves the ascetics of Wabi- Sabi will love this book. Well done. this book was given to me by NetGalley for my honest opinion.
This book is LOVELY! Julie Pointer Adams has created such a specific aesthetic that it only took me a couple pages before I flipped to the "about the author" section to see if this was the same person from Kinfolk. (It is.) Really this whole aesthetic is wabi sabi in itself - you really do start to feel blissed out reading it. I want a whole book on this subject based around the young Japanese couple.
It is a unique and very, very beautiful book with a lot of lovely pictures and information. This book reminds me of Kinfolk. I recommend that you purchase a hardcover for this book because this book is so beautiful visually. It's very inspiring book and I highly recommended.
