When the bombs that stopped the species war tore holes in the veil between worlds, they allowed entry to the Others. Now, a hundred years later, humans and shifters alike live in artificially lit cities designed to keep the darkness at bay . . .
The humanoid supersoldiers known as the déchet were almost eradicated by the war. Ever since, Tiger has tried to live her life in peace in hiding. But in the wake of her discovery that Central City's children are being kidnapped and experimented on, Tiger's conscience won't let her look the other way.
The key to saving them lies within the walls of a pharmaceutical company called Winter Halo. But as Tiger learns more about the facility, her mission is derailed by a complication: Winter Halo's female security guards are being systematically attacked by an unknown force.
Now Tiger must summon all her gifts to stop those responsible for both atrocities-no matter the cost to herself...

This, the second book of the Outcast series, took what was one of the most promising first books of a series and totally screwed with it, leaving a jagged mess of urban fantasy clichés and paranormal romance ridiculousness.

It added nothing but disappointment for me. A romance between Tig and Jonas that was always going to be dragged out to try and get as much mileage as the author could from it (which made me less than interested in what happened between them); the story of the missing kids was bland and uninteresting - at no point did I care about that plotline cos nobody in the book seemed to; and the characters seemed to be just vague silhouettes of what they were in the first book.

Will I read 'The Black Tide'? Sure I will - the hope being that it gets back to be as brilliant as the first book!

Just because you were made doesn't mean that you don't feel. Tiger was made to be something else, she was taught to fight and to use her body to seek out information. But the war changed all that, her charges were all killed and now they all leave together in the old labs the only thing is that all the children are ghosts and only she can speak to them. Cat & Bear are her children basically when they died in her arms, their DNA all mixed together and now their bound is even closer. She has a mission to find the other children that were kidnapped, she was able to find some of them but the others are still out there and if she has to work people that don't like or trust she will. Jonas knows that his kind hate what Tiger is and he can't trust her as they tried to kill the shifters as well but he knows that their is something different about her and he is hoping to find out more about her. Can he trust her to help him and will all he has heard about her be true?
Their journey is about to get weirder as there are others that want to take over what is left of their world and they will be a greater threat anything they have ever faced. Can they work together to try stop this evil or will they fail because of lack of trust?
Tiger will have to become other women to gain the information that she needs, she is able to change her appearance and that works well as she is able to find out where the children are and to find out that experiments are still taking place and that her old friend is back and even madder than before. Can she safe her children from harm as well as herself? At times I thought that she would fail but she has the guts to go on and she has a good heart even though people think the worst of her. She cares for her ghost family and she will find the other children no matter what and she will help Jonas find his niece even if it means that she will likely be killed. Way to end the story what have to read the next one it just let me hanging there. Damn you are good Keri. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest thoughts.
