WOW! What a great add to Sawyer's books.... We fist meet Kyle in the Last Call books and then again in the Wicked Horse series. You knew when you met him, he had a story.... you just did not understand how deep it was. A fun steamy read.....
Kyle has lived his life as a criminal the last five years as a undercover ATF agent, regret the entire time with the things he witnessed and then was a part of to secure his place in the gang. The only thing keeping him going was that he was fighting for all the victims and would be victims. After he brought down the biker gang he was a part of, he was quickly taken into hiding until he could testify in the trail. All thinking he was dead and there really was no case without his testimony. After being shut in for several months awaiting trail, he was looking for a new place, a job and a new start until the trail that had been delayed started.... hence a move to a small town in Maine.
Jane, a sweet teacher/artist who is just minding her own business getting ready for summer break does not know what she is in for when her new neighbor moves in. He is hot, built and has some tattoos, something she does not think she is interested in, yet she can't stop watching him, wanting to get to know him. He keeps to himself and she gets glimpse of him from time to time. She goes out of her way to meet and get to know the new man in town, even if he wants no part of it....
Kyle knowing that this is a very bad decision, he can't have any relationships.... it is not safe and he feels like this is the last thing he is deserving of. However, Jane puts up a good fight and breaks him down, but with a warning that this could end at anytime..... As they spend time together they both realize how special their time together is.... both knowing that there is an end date, just not what that date is and Jane thinking she can change his mind. Little does Jane know who she has just let into her life.... or what it could mean to her heart, safety and future.
Will their feelings and time together be enough for them to make it work or will all the "lies" or questions that went unanswered that all come to the surface be more than Jane can deal with? Does Kyle even want anything more than a fling?
A book about finding yourself, love, forgiveness and maybe a happily ever after.....
This was another enjoyable insight into one of Sawyer Bennett’s intriguing side characters.
Kyle has been working undercover for the ATF in a criminal and violent MC Club called Mayhem’s Mission. During his time undercover, Kyle has witnessed and partook in multiple heinous crimes all with the aim of bringing about the club’s downfall. Now that the club members have been arrested, Kyle must try to stay alive long enough to testify against the brothers that he set about exposing during his time within the club.
Kyle Sommerville is presumed dead, not only by those involved with Mayhem’s Mission but also us readers. After witnessing his death in Wicked Bond, little did readers expect to find him alive and well and living in Misty Harbor, Maine. After declining WITSEC, Kyle decides to try his hand at living off the grid as a lighthouse keeper. It’s whilst living in Gray Birch Lighthouse that he catches the eye of neighbour Jane Cresson. Jane is extremely determined where Kyle is concerned and she sets about welcoming him, Jane style, to the neighbourhood. Kyle tries his hardest to ignore Jane’s advances, but Jane is relentless and eventually manages to wear him down.
Kyle is waiting for the trial against those involved with the collapse of Mayhem’s Mission to take place and in doing so knows that he can’t risk getting involved with anyone but especially Jane. Living whilst continually watching over his shoulder, Kyle tries to live a normal existence, something he hasn’t experienced since before he went undercover. With Jane at his side, he surprisingly finds this easier to do than he first thought and slowly the pair start to fall in love with each other and their life together seems effortless until Kyle’s past, as expected, catches up with him, and Jane.
I really enjoyed the movie theme accents to this story. Jane is an expert where movie quotes are concerned and as part of her quirky way of breaking down the hard edges to Kyle’s personality, she adds these quotes into conversations. Not only does Jane quote famous lines at Kyle but she also references the lines, just for good measure.
This overall felt like a softer romance from Sawyer Bennett, despite the ever present danger lurking around Kyle. The connection between Kyle and Jane was deliberate and explosive but at the same time, was tender and sweet. Whilst Kyle didn’t put up too much resistance to Jane’s advances, and thus drawing the story out unnecessarily, their story was also fragile enough so make you wonder if they would ever find a HEA together.
Although Kyle and his sister, Andrea, appear in previous books, it is not necessary to read Shaken, Not Stirred, Wicked Bond, or With a Twist in order to enjoy this book. However, the Last Call and Wicked Horse series are both highly recommended and entertaining reads if you want to delve deeper into the works by Sawyer Bennett after having read and loved Finding Kyle.
