SNARED is book sixteen in the Elemental Assassin series. I’ve said in the past that this series continues to get great and while I still stand by that claim, SNARED did feel a little bit different to me. It almost felt like the author tried to return to her roots because the beginning of this book is very basic in terms of the Urban Fantasy style. Gin is a badass heroine and she’s out to take out her next target. For some reason, I felt like we’ve been through this before and it didn’t really shine like I think the author expected it to. It was still very well-written but even the writing felt a little on the safe side in this one.
That being said, SNARED is a very easy read. I’m sure if you’re a fan of the series you’ll devour this book easily. But because this is one of my favorite series, I do have pretty high expectations. While things do improve as the book goes on, I don’t think it’s my favorite in the series. For me, it was really the safest one because I could predict a lot of what happened.
One of the things that impresses me about this book is how different it was from the previous one. I enjoyed the previous book Unraveled tremendously, and I also enjoyed reading a completely different story.
The big story arc continues, as Gin investigates the Circle. This time Gin is sidetracked when she is asked to find a missing girl. I love that she doesn't work alone - that would be unrealistic, and I love the supporting cast of characters - it's a strong and diverse group. Gin's powers and abilities have grown - but her list of deadly enemies has grown too.
Anyway, this is another strong series entry.
Well where do we start? First thing, if you can have a series that has gotten to book #16, you have to have done something right, publishers don't stick with books that don't sell. Gin is most likely the most consistently bloody and violent heroine you will ever read about while still having a heart of gold for the weak and loyal to her friends beyond all reason. So even though she wants to devote full time to The Circle, when a young girl is missing Gin has to make that a priority with some twists you don't expect (and a couple you can see coming)
This book was a bit harder to review because it got stuck a time or two and I felt she was cursed with temporary stupidity to get the plot moved along. Thing is though, the story was addicting and kept me glued to the pages, I would hit one of these "She ain't that stupid" moments and then just move on with the story but it was distracting.
We have started searching out The Circle in earnest and she has at least one of them in her sights but things get complicated and Tucker seems to be a real enigma and I hope he does not get so evil we can't like him just a bit.
Bottom line: Great story, good plot, some stumbles in keeping Gin consistent, really good ending and we get to know a bit more about the night her family died. Hang on folks, this ride is not over.
After a slightly disappointing previous book, Snared has put this series back on track! Gin has the names of all of the members of the mysterious Circle, except for the leader. She's going to find him, but after she tracks down a friend's sister who mysterious disappeared. But while searching for her, Gin stumbles upon the trail of a serial killer who likes young, pretty blondes. That description just happens to fit the missing girl. While Gin's priority is finding her, she's also going to do what she does best: kill a killer.
Snared has returned to the standard formula that most of the series books follow, and I am perfectly okay with that! It works! Plus, this installment has one of my favorite tropes: If I can't have you, no one can! It's pretty obvious that this killer has a type, and his type probably stems from "the one who got away" or something similar. But who is he fantasizing about, and why does he have to kill all these girls?! And what does any of this have to do with Gin, the Circle, or Ashland's criminal underworld? Well, I do have to say that I guessed who the serial killer was, but all of the other little connections that popped up were quite interesting!
Snared was a pretty exciting addition to this series. As we all have come to know, Gin is very arrogant and that comes back to bite her. Obviously we also know that she's going to survive or else the series would be over, but I'm always on the edge of my seat to see how she manages to get herself out of these dangerous situations. This one was no different! I do wish there had been a bit more progress on Gin's investigation of the Circle, since I really had no investment in Jade and Elissa. But I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next one!
Snared by Jennifer Estep is the 16th book in her fantastic Urban Fantasy Elemental Assassin series. I always look forward to reading the next book in this series, as Jennifer Estep never fails to give us another fantastic exciting action packed story, which has one of the best kick-ass heroines in Gin Blanco (Spider).
In Snared, Gin continues to research about the secret powerful group called the Circle, who was part of killing her mother years before. When on a mission to find more information on one of the Circle leaders, she overhears something about her mother and her evil enemy Tucker, which upsets Gin, and pushes her to find out more. But when Jade, one of Ashland’s gangland leaders, asks for help, Gin will step forward. It seems that Jade’s younger sister is missing, and when Gin pulls her team (what an awesome group; Bria, Finn, Owen, Silvio, Sophia, Jo Jo, Xavier, etc), together they discover that a serial killer has been killing young blond haired girls.
What follows is an exciting, mind blowing, pulse pounding mystery that will bring Gin right into the lion’s den, where clues will point to the serial killer somewhere within the circle. As always with Gin Blanco, she is right in the middle of this wild adventure. No one messes with Gin, and yet so many times they all try to kill her, and somehow our heroine always manages to suffer horrific injuries, and yet escape death. Will she find Jade’s sister in time? Will she learn the truth about her mother and her enemy, Tucker?
Reading this series, and spending time with Gin is always fun and enjoyable. I love how tough and loyal Gin is, and no matter how much she suffers in each book, she still rises up for more. We are always on the edge of our seats through each and every book. Jennifer Estep is a master at creating a seamless flow into each story, and watching Gin evolve into such a great heroine. As I noted earlier, the secondary characters that make up Gin’s team are great, and always fun to be with. Her romance with Owen is just perfect and sweet, which always manages to release the tension in the story at the moment.
Snared was a wonderful action filled addition to this series, which also gives us answers to some questions, as well as surprises that will have us waiting impatiently for the next book; I cannot wait for more adventures of Gin Blanco. If you have not read the Elemental Assassin series, it is time for you to start now.
This is a wonderful series. I like that even though Gin is tough and can kick butt, she isn't invincible. She is still vulnerable and not all powerful. Makes her more relatable.
I just absolutely loved reading this book! This series has been so incredible, and Gin faces a lot in this book! She's facing off against the Circle, except there's more than meets the eye! This book was so complicated and intricate!
Gin knows more about the Circle now, she's been looking into them for a little while now. So when she learns about this missing girl, it was almost like a fast forward button was pushed, so many things were going on!
In this book, we learn more about Hugh Tucker. And not all of it was easy for Gin to learn, not how she learned it, but what she learned! Because it showed him to be much more complicated than just the enforcer bad guy of the Circle.
Of course, the revelations didn't stop until the book ended! That ending packed a heck of a doozy, from how Elissa and her situation was resolved, to Hugh Tucker and the Circle. It was just a fantastic ending, and I can't wait to see where things will go from there!
Such an amazing book, and I can't wait to read more!
A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements to review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
Snared is book 16 in the Elemental Assassin series. I really enjoyed reading this book. The world Jennifer Estep has created is awesome and the story is easy to follow. As I was reading Snared I could see this story play out as a movie in my head.
Snared is the continuation of Gin "the Spider" Blanco. Gin is on the hunt to find out the truth of her mother's murder. She is still hunting down the members of the secret society the Circle to find the truth about the murder.
To find out what Gin has found go grab your copy of Snared.
I give Snared 5 stars and would recommend this whole series to anyone who loves paranormal.
Jennifer Estep brings her stories alive with her words. She is an awesome storyteller. I really enjoyed reading the Elemental Assassin series. I can't wait for the next installment to the Elemental Assassin series. I know that this is one series I will be rereading again and again.
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read my review of Snared.
Snared begins with Gin Blanco aka “The Spider” investigating another member from the mysterious group called the Circle. However, Gin’s search is put on hold when she’s asked for a favor from a friend. What starts off with a search for a missing sisters soon becomes a rescue mission when it turns out that there’s a serial killer loose. Not to mention that it soon becomes obvious that someone is slowly leading Gin into a web where she’ll have to escape before she gets tangled up and can’t escape.
Overall, Snared was another great addition to the Elemental Assassin series. Not only do we get more information about the Circle but we also get revelations from one of its members who was once close to Eira Snow, Gin’s mother. As always, Jennifer Estep has left fans wanting to learn more and what’s next in the Elemental Assassin series.
Hope you all enjoy this fast pacing, thrilling installment!
*I received Snared from Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books via Netgalley in return for an honest review.*
I was hooked on this series from Spider's Bite. I can't get enough of Gin and the rest of her gang. This time Gin is after a serial killer. And of course, she always gets the bad guy. And Gin uncovers more memories from her passed. As usual, I was thoroughly snared in Gin's web from page one! This action packed installment kept me turning pages late into the night. I'm addicted and want more!

Jennifer Estep knows how to have FUN in her stories. This one covered some really dark material (I mean honestly, the series is about an assassin... let's not act shocked this one has dark stuff in it, guys), but I still loved it.
Gin finds out that some of her enemies aren't just violent evil thugs. She also finds out that some of them *ARE* just violent evil thugs. She makes some progress on her Circle hunting. And we get to see quite a few of our favorite cast members. (Also, can I get an AMEN to Owen being less cardboard-cutout-y in this one? :D )
My biggest complaint is that it was predictable. I pretty much guessed almost everything that was going to happen. But, in typical Estep fashion, I had fun anyways.
All in all, a very solid entry into the series. She says she's planned now through book 19 (really? You're killing me, Estep -- why 19 instead of 20? Stephen King fetish?), and I will definitely be along for the final few novels on this ride through the world of the Elemental Assassin.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Gin Blanco continues her quest to discover more about the underworld group called the Circle. Meanwhile, a girl by the name of Elissa Daniels goes missing, and Gin investigates. This Urban Fantasy is suitable for adult audiences.
I appreciate the complexity of the characters in this series. I find it amusing that Gin is so frequently underestimated. I love Gin’s friend network. The banter between her and Finn always has me smiling. She has some amazing people she can rely on. We discovered some interesting things about Gin’s nemesis, Hugh Tucker, as well as some other people.
Jennifer Estep created another thrilling story in Elemental Assassin series. SNARED is full of action and mystery. Estep does a fantastic job with all the details in this story. I loved the ending. I would love to see the Elemental Assassin series on television. It really would be perfect for TV. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Like her namesake - Gin just keeps getting better with age!
As an dual elemental, Gin can control not just one, but two elements - stone and ice. This ability has helped her survive many a misadventure as well as her career as a top-notch assassin in the deadly city of Ashland. She's gone from working for her mentor Fletcher to working for herself to becoming the mob boss for the city due to having killed the previous 2 bosses. Retired - and now trying to take down the circle - Gin gets pulled into a manhunt for a serial killer... like Ashland didn't have enough troubles they can now add a serial killer to the list.
Her circle of friends has also grown from 3 or 4 trusted individuals to more like 10 close friends; several other good acquaintances; and several business frenemies - who would love to have her gone almost as much as they need her near. It takes cooperation from all of her friends - and maybe some of those frenemies to not only unravel the mystery of the crimes being committed, but to also survive her latest endeavor. Solving this crime will save lives and solve several cold cases Bria has been trying to close.

Snared by Jennifer Estep
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Gin has been through a lot and in book 16 she goes through even more while trying to find and rescue a friends sister. While that is the focus of the action the flashbacks that Gin has change her focus. She is still going after the Circle but now she has some additional information that leaves her wondering about one of her main opponents. Estep has stepped up the action and the mystery and set Gin on a path that has some different elements including help from an unexpected source. There is still a lot that Gin needs to know before she succeeds in her quest to bring down the Circle. As usual there is a great cast of characters who help keep the story moving. A very interesting addition to the series.
Gin is looking for the kidnapper of a friends sister. The ongoing hunt for the members of the illusive Circle, leads her to remember, as well as learn, some startling things from her childhood. There is more going on surrounding her parents deaths than she ever believed. Why did the circle want her mother Eira dead? The name of the head of the circle stirs a swirling memory. Great fight scene! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.
OMG! Its Jennifer Estep! Need I say more? Well, for anyone that HAS NOT been following this series, you simply dont know what you're missing! While this isn't a stand alone, you dont have to have read the rest of the series to thoroughly enjoy this one, But if you're reading this, then what are you waiting for? GRAB it AND the rest of the series! You wont be disappointed!
Snared is book 16 in the Elemental Assassin series. The series revolves around a retired assassin that is a stone and ice elemental and is the head of the underworld (aka bad guys). In this installment, we have a missing girl that Gin and the gang are trying to locate, and a serial killer loose in Ashland. It sure made for an interesting read!
We start off with exactly what I want more details on ASAP, Gin Blanco doing some investigation work on the Circle. We learned in the previous book that Gin's mother was a member of the Circle before she passed. And any group with Mab Monroe in it and her mother has her questioning everything. While we do get back to the Circle later in the book, things quickly go back to normal for Gin. She runs her BBQ restaurant and handles the petty squabbles with the underground. That is until one of the underground members approaches Gin to have her look for her missing sister. While searching for the girl, Gin and the gang wind up on high alert when they find a woman's body with Gin's spider runes drawn on the hands. And when Gin finds out this isn't the first time a girl with similar coloring has been found mysteriously dead, she knows there's a serial killer on the large in Ashland. With the missing girl still out there, Gin and the gang have to find her before the killer strikes again.
Snared is a great read that had me chomping at the bit to see if they'd be able to figure out whodunit. I have to give major props to JEstep for managing to make a long running series better and better with each book. It's not an easy feat but with a new villain popping up in each book it keeps the plot fresh while letting the main/secondary characters evolve along the way. I love this series and highly suggest you grab it if you haven't read it yet.
I received this book free from the publisher for an honest and unbiased review.
What can I say? Jennifer Estep rarely if ever disappoints and Snared is another wonderful addition to the world of professional assassin Gin Blanco! Not only is she the defacto Queen of Ashland's Underworld, Gin is the proprietor of Ashland's best barbeque joint. And who doesn't enjoy good food while hacking through the underbelly of a kidnapping plot?
In this latest installment Gin is looking into not only the ever-mysterious Circle (the group that had Gin's mother and eldest sister murdered all those years ago), but looking into a serial killer that's been in Ashland for decades. With a cast of fan favorites like the dwarf sisters, Gin's detective little sister Bria, the suave Finn, and the hunky Owen, Snared is sure to delight readers old and new.
New readers may be lost for a while if delving into this world for the first time, but they can definitely find their way. After reading Snared I reread the series and it only whetted my appetite for the next all the more. Gin learns some hard truths and remembers some bitter memories, but it's all part of the ride!
This is definitely not the story to miss and so if you haven't read Estep's Spider Assassin series before, what are you waiting for? Come and get Snared in this delicious story that starts off fast and doesn't let you go until the last word!
4 Stars
I really like this series. Gin is a kick ass woman who takes order from no one. She is a deadly assassin who will do anything in her power to protect her love ones and find out who and why the Circle killed her mother.
Gin is back and this time she's not the only one with a game plan. This may be the sixteenth book in this series but the author sure does know how to keep her readers hooked. After so much mayhem and murder previously you would imagine that things would start to slow down but absolutely not! The Spider is closing in on the mysterious Circle, chasing leads and determined to take down those responsible for the deaths in her family. Yet when asked to find a missing girl Gin doesn't hesitate to help but some things just don't add up. Ashland has a secret serial killer with a taste for the unusual but is Gin being helped or hindered by those around her? Has the hunter become the prey?
I absolutely love this series and yes I know that an assassin shouldn't really be my idea of a heroine but Gin is impossible not to like. Fierce , protective and so very brave but it's her quick thinking that always seems to save the day. Gin may be following clues , tracing a trail but she's not the only cunning adversary in this story. The killer isn't exactly what she expects and those protecting the Circle are all too aware of Gins hunt. Our favourite assassin casts her net wide but there's a very tangled web to fight her way through.
As usual Gin gets beaten up but hey that's OK as it gives her the opportunity to show her many talents . Yes we get more of her extended family which always gives me warm fuzzy feelings and yep even some quality time with Owen! Best of all though is I'm enjoying this new direction , the secrets, the lies , even the surprises about characters I thought I knew. Yes misdirection is the name of the game and more revelations are most certainly on their way. I'm as hooked by this book as I was the first and this author has thoroughly entertained me once again so a huge recommendation from me!
This voluntary take is of a copy I asked for from Netgalley and my thoughts are truly my own honest opinion
