My Review:
First response: Gin must be really tired of being knocked around by dwarves and giants, all these guys with extra strength. She seems to get beaten to a pulp each time she takes on a case. But she also seems to make either big enemies or really special friends or both. Full review coming up on my blog.
This time the Spider is caught in a web of someone else's weaving. Someone is leaving just enough clues for Gin to follow to bring her to the answer he wants her to find. And to kill the people he wants to be killed. Gin is always so clever, how can she be outsmarted? Outmanipulated? Can this be the end of the Spider?
No, Gin will get some magic healing and some rest and live to fight another day. But will I care? I'm not sure I'm interested in the series going beyond this point. Maybe it's time to end the series. Maybe it's become predictable and a little bit tired. This was a good book. The story was really good and it was interesting to see Gin caught in someone's web. But I think it's time to rethink the series. Not every series can run to forty or so books. Ms. Estep is such a great writer that I'd like to see her try something else for a bit.

Gin Blanco, aka The Spider, is back and kicking ass in the sixteenth installment of the bestselling Elemental Assassin series. Discovering the identities of The Circle members and finding out the truth about her mother’s involvement with the shadowy organization is at the top of her to-do list and she won’t rest until each and every member meets justice at the end of one of her blades. Her search is interrupted when an acquaintance begs for help in finding her missing sister. Elissa disappeared just about 24 hours prior, but Gin knows what even that short of time means on the dangerous streets of Ashland. During the course of her search, Gin will find herself amidst the investigation into a serial killer and she becomes more and more certain Elissa is the newest victim. Now the clock is ticking and Gin, Bria, Finn, Owen, and the rest of Gin’s crew, must discover the man’s identity before they find another body.
Even after sixteen books and well into the second series arc, Elemental Assassins continues to be one of my must read, most anticipated urban fantasy series. Gin never, ever disappoints. Snared felt a bit darker than the previous release, Unraveled, but that could be because it involved the search for a sadistic serial killer. Sixteen books in and I know the formula for Gin’s enemies, but there was just something about this one that felt just a bit darker and more evil. As Gin slowly unravels the mystery of who could be snatching girls off the streets of Ashland, I thought I had an idea of who would ultimately be meeting Gin in the end for the ever-present showdown. But I was wrong.
Even as Gin frantically tracks clues to unmask the identity of the Dollmaker, she keeps running into the same names over and over. Members of The Circle who she’s secretly had under surveillance for months. One in particular she’s had run ins with in previous books. Hugh Tucker is a formidable enemy, and one she wants nothing more than to bury, but first she needs to find out who he answers to. Who is leader of The Circle? Unfortunately for her, she overhears something that seems to hint that Hugh and her mother had a previous romantic relationship. This inevitably leads to flashback scenes where Gin remembers more of the night of her mother’s death at the hands of Mab Monroe. Which inevitably led to me having suspicions of Hugh’s true identity and motives and, to be more specific, who he is to Gin. I’m not sure why I am so excited by this new plot thread, but I think it’s because the criminal history of Ashland is more of a tangled web that I previously thought and I can’t wait to watch it untangle as new revelations are revealed. I’ll get back to you if my suspicions turn out to be correct.
It was good to see Finn back to his regular joking self. Owen and Bria, Sophia and Jo-Jo are there as support and backup. Silvio felt more fleshed out to me in this installment, maybe because I read the novella Nice Guys Bite, which enabled me to see him with new eyes. I loved the addition of Jade and Ryan to Gin’s tight-knit group of family and friends and hope to see then more often in the future.
All in all, Snared is another high energy, exciting release in the Elemental Assassins series. I’m already looking forward to the next release and discovering what new webs will ensnare Gin and her allies. Final Grade- B
Favorite Quote:
“What are you going to do, Gin?” Ryan asked, even though he already knew the answer.
“What I do best.” I gave him a grim smile. “I’m going to find this bastard and put him in the ground.”
another great installment in the Gin Blanco series! i love the direction the series has taken and can't wait for more!
Snared ironically finds Gin Blanco aka "The Spider" snared in another's web. As she continues to investigate the mysteryious members of the Circle and their connection to her family's deaths, Gin must use all her skills to help save a missing girl from a vicious serial killer.
Her search sends her to the vicious streets of Ashland and has all her friends and confidants equally searching for clues.
A series of clues leads Gin down an increasingly dark, dangerous path, and that the missing girl is really just the most recent in a long tangled web of evil. Gin is used to facing down the dregs of society but even this one surprises her.
I did want a bit more with the Circle but Estep is pacing this arc for readers. The burn is slow but will be worth it in the end.
Snared has everything fans of this urban fantasy series loves: action, good plot, great characters, romance, mystery and sly humor. It is a fast pacing, thrilling read.
Love it! Love Gin!
I thought that the book was good, however it seemed to be a little short; when I got to the end I was a little disappointed, because I still wanted more. That could just be because I was so into the story that I already want the next one, though.
I love this series! The characters continue to evolve, and feel so genuine. I like the new plot twist, and am looking forward to seeing how it unfolds.
