Katie Fforde's novels are a delight to read and she never disappoints. Wonderful characters.

I have always enjoyed Katie Fforde books, They are easy reading with a romantic touch. This felt like 3 for the price of 1. An enjoyable story and a feel good factor. Thank you.
A nice quick happy place read . Perfect for on the beach .
They say never judge a book by it's cover, but this book should not be judged by its title either as the secret garden is actually less than a quarter of the story. The story itself is more a tale of friendship, love and life for those older than the twenty somethings who generally fill the romance novels currently available.
The story is an immersive laugh out loud tale that encourages you to curl up for a giggle and a catch up just like a group of old friends. The characters are well developed and well written.
Nicely wrapped up in a single book this story gives you happy endings all round, even the secret garden gets its moment in the sun.
This is a great book for whiling away a weekend curled up reading or laying out on a sun lounger by the pool.
A lovely book for escapism and although set in modern times its more reminiscent of times past, proper old school British setting.
I love Katie Fforde it is really easy reading and always a happy ending which is no bad thing in this day and age. I raced through this book in no time at all.
A sweet book following the lives of three women of different age groups. Lorna is in her 50's and in love with Peter, who just seems to view her as a friend. Anthea is Peters mother and seems content with life without a man. Philly is in her twenties and never had a boyfriend. The women are each connected by Burthen House and their mutual appreciation of gardening.
A Secret Garden is an easy read with themes of old fashioned romance and gardening running throughout. It's pure escapism; and if you have a busy lifestyle, it's easy to read a couple of pages and then put it down again, without being lost when you next find a spare few minutes for a read.
Onto the negatives; at times I found the writing rather stilted, and found myself thinking whether people would really speak in that way. I've not read any other books by this author, and scanning a few other reviews, it seems like her writing style is usually slightly different. Less pretentious and more down to earth.
If you have green fingers you'll probably really appreciate and thoroughly enjoy this book, with its beautiful descriptions of flowers and plants and all other garden related things.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone Century, for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.
This book is a lovely summer, or beach read. Romance in abundance, and for all age groups. with the added interest of finding a secret walled garden, and restoring it. I really enjoyed this light and frothy read, Just perfect for whiling away a few hours, delightful and highly recommended.
A secret Garden by Katie Fforde a great four-star read. I have loved Katie Fforde’s books for years, I used to buy them all in paperback before I bought a kindle. Her writing is always funny and sweet, with just the right amount of sugar to keep it just right.
This is the story of Lorna and her pal Philly, we also have a great cast of supporting characters. They both work to make the grand house they work at look pretty amazing on the outside. Sadly for both of them they have been unlucky in love, but will all that change? But will a family’s that like most are a little crazy, and someone from the past cause problems for both of them, causing them to miss out on the opportunity for love? Or does fate have another plan? You will have to read the book to find out. It’s definitely worth the read.
I did really enjoy this book, but think that perhaps it's not the best by this author. Nonetheless, it entertained me over a couple of afternoons at home with a sick child, for which I am very grateful!
The inclusion of characters from different generations helped give some more depth to the story, and the resulting conflicts showed how we can misunderstand others.
The descriptions of gardens in this book were beautiful and I found myself really being able to picture this tranquil place. The plot was somewhat predictable, but I think that is the beauty of this author, you can just enjoy reading without having to really think.
A great book from Katie Fforde the characters where lovable and the storyline was easy to to read .A perfect romantic story to read by the pool on holiday or when you want to relax. I really emjoyed this book and again was a great book to imagine the scenes and the characters you could almost believe you were there as well. Keep up the good word and lets have more books Katie.
An easy romantic read from one of my favourite authors.
Katie's books always have a happy ending and a feel-good factor. Ideal holiday reading.
In The Secret Garden we meet Lorna and her friend Philly - both at different stages of their lives but they bond over gardening. My favourite character was Philly's grandfather Seamus.
The plot is a little obvious but is heartwarming and enjoyable. A charming and comfortable book.
Another lovely feel-good book from Katie Fforde. Love all her books and this one didn't disappoint. Put your feet up, get comfy and snuggle up with lovely book!
I have always been a fan of Katie Fforde and read just about every book she has written.
As always, this book is no disappointment. Lighthearted, easy read book. Although, her books are perfect world... boy, girl, meet, love marry.... they are dreamy to read.
Always a pleasure to read loved it. Dreaming.......
I really loved the book cover and having never read anything by this author before i was quite excited to read A Secret Garden but for me the story was quite slow and found it hard to get into.
Loved this book like I always do With katie Fforde.
The book was a delight, I was late for work wanting to finish the last chapter.
I could picture all the characters and wanted to live there with them!
It was a total escape from real life, it was a light, loveable read with out becoming dull.
I am a long time reader of Katie Fforde's and a number of her books are on my 'keepers' shelf. I was starting to get a bit bored with the stories about the wedding planner - she seemed a bit cynical and then a bit 'wet'. This for me is more of a return to form with a classic Fforde story.
There are two main characters: Philly (Philomena) is a young Irish plantswoman, and Lorna is an older woman, having divorced a cheating husband. During the story we meet Lucien and Jack, and encounter all the twists and turns of whether the two couples will (or not!) get together by the end of the book. I liked the story a great deal, there was plenty of humour and romance. Favourite characters were Lady Anthea, Grand (Seamus) and Lorna.
Thanks Katie, another one for the 'keepers' shelf!
I haven't read one of Katie's novels in a while - my apologies - but I'm so very glad that I rectified that with this one. Simply put, Katie''s stories can reaffirm your faith in humanity and the beauty of the people we learn about here are both a lesson in storytelling and a joyful way to escape the drudgery that day to day life can bring. I could waffle on about how much I enjoyed the stories interwoven here so easily, by I don't feel the need to.
