King Toran was able to do the impossible and join the five realms. The destiny of each realm is tied to each of his hidden heirs. Now that the king is dead, his enemies are gathering to destroy any heirs. It’s now up to a self-appointed librarian to unravel the mystery.
I liked this book more than I thought I would. Everything was written in great detail. I loved being pulled into the story of Terith and the journey he went through. I look forward to reading the next book in this saga.

I gave this a 3.5. Overall I did enjoy the adventure but reading it was a mix of not being interested at all and being sucked in and flipping the pages. I think a lot of that is because of how slow it was at the beginning. Once you get about 3/4 of the way through and things start happening at a quicker page and the story is coming together it's really good. I will definitely continue on with the series.

This story is about a kingdom, or rather several kingdoms, united by one man who became the king of all. To help ensure their good fortune, he had a child by a woman belonging to each kingdom. The problem is the king is now dead, and his heirs have not come forward to claim the throne. The throne currently sits empty.
Some of his heirs know who they are, or have figured it out at one point or another. Others do not know who their father was, and don't realize they are royalty. The story follows two of the many kingdoms, and two individuals from those kingdoms. One is a servant on a quest to remain in the castle or to find a better life for herself. Along comes a gentleman, seemingly innocent enough, and is trying to find the heirs of the great king. The other is in a fight for his own kingdom, and to become the next chief by winning the dragon race. The winner of the race also gets to choose his wife from the eligible women. One dragon rider is very interested in winning and is out to sabotage the main character we follow from this kingdom.
The writing by itself I found to be good. There were complexities of the story that were well played out. The story itself however, I found on the slow side. Or if there was action, there wasn't a lot of suspense. This is still a book I would recommend to you, and my close friends and family. Overall I give this a 3.5 of 5.
I was very disappointed with this one. Sounded great. Just wasn't.
I found some parts of this story extremely slow which then probably made the better parts feel actually better than they were.
The world building was poor, some of the character building was weak and in places the plot was totally unbelievable.
I can only hope the second in the series is better.
THIS BOOK!!! Uhh, it took me forever to find the words to be able to write a review for it. It took me by surprise, and honestly, it's been years since I've read a book that has captivated me so much. I was hooked from the beginning of the book, and now that it's over, I don't know what to do with myself. I need the next book in this series!
Fall of the Dragon Prince is a wonderful fantasy with dragons. I have to admit, that was the main reason I picked up the book at first, because I love dragons! This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, going from one action-packed scene to another, throwing in the needed slow scenes to build up the tension again. I have to say, there were a few things I expected to happen, but then as things started changing, I was no longer sure what to think, making it hard to completely guess what was going to happen. After reading this book, it made me realize I haven't been completely rating books well by giving them 5 star reviews. In reality, this book makes up a 5 star rating, but I just wanna give it a 6 compared to those others. Stellar book and I cannot wait for the next one!!!
I had difficulties with this book and I don't believe it was at fault for bad writing or lack of story or lack of anything. The book started off really well for me but then it hit a wall and I was no longer interested. I put the book down and picked it up a few times and tried to get into it again but I couldn't do it.
Between all the voices the one that was most entertaining for me was Reann. I looked forward to reading about her and what she was going through. Everything else didn't entertainment as much as her voice.
I couldn't finish this book and I think a lot of it is because it just wasn't my cup of tea.
This had all the makings of a fantastic high fantasy novel. A king who united five kingdoms into one dies and leaves behind five separate heirs that must be found, all while darkness is gathering? Dragons, heros, villains and and heroine is who is a librarian? Yes!
I was seriously disappointed in this one. It took me over a month to read--unheard of, I know, but I just couldn't get into it. The world-building is sloppy and all over the place. We've got this vague magic system of awakenings and rises and falls, and a backstory that flits about all willy-nilly. Toran, the dead king, has this crazy ex-fiancee who apparently stole something and is going to destroy the world...and yet isn't mentioned in the present time at all.
There are a ton of battles, swordfights, dragon races and dragon fights, all of which are tactically confusing as hell. The main characters are also frustrating. Terith is a champion dragon rider/warrior who is stringing along three women, and Reann is in a weird relationship with her "boss" (some dude she decided to help with a research project because he's interesting and hot). And Toran. Why, Toran? Why? You knew this was going to happen and you knew you were going to die with your destiny unfinished, so why didn't you tell anyone about, hell, anything??

Unfortunately I was gravely disappointed with The Fall Of The Dragon Prince. I was really keen to try it for majestic dragons, and while it did deliver on that, it failed to present either a captivating story or engaging characters or intriguing world building. In fact, I felt the world building was non-existent, with people fighting each other for no reason and an ancient king hiding his heirs for no discernible purpose except to provide people with legends and an epic game of hide n seek. I need facts when I read fantasy and this had very few.
It also had a confusing magic system and never fully explained what "awakening" truly was. Best I can figure is it makes you glow. Anything else?
It was also rather cliche with plot twists you could see from a mile away and a premise that a dozen other fantasy's have done before. Lost princes reclaiming their heritage and fulfilling prophecies and saving the world? Hmm. I felt rather unengaged the entire time.
I also couldn't be a fan of the romance when Terith is leading on two women and claiming affection for them both. No thank you. Plus the sexism levels in the book were insufferably high, with all the women being objects or needing men to save them. When the entire premise is for the winner of the dragon race to choose any women to marry he wants, like she's an object on a shelf? I can't get onboard with that. Women are not objects and as a woman wanting to read an exciting fantasy to have an adventure, be empowered, and be inspired to magical creativity -- I was sorely let down.
This book is fantasy at its’ best! Fans of “Eragon”, “Game of Thrones”, and classic dragon fantasy will enjoy this. The characters are wonderfully written and likable. Readers will find themselves reading through the night, unable to put this down. I can’t wait for the next book in the series...I need to know what happens to Reann and Terith!

King Toran is greatly admired for uniting the 5 realms and bringing peace to the land. When the King dies, his throne stands empty. It is rumored that he left 5 heirs throughout the land, however their identities remain a mystery.
The story is told from several character's point of view. Reann is a 17 year old ward of the castle that is working as a servant until her guardianship ends. She is the self-appointed librarian and has been secretly searching for clues to the lost heirs. She hopes that if she finds one she will gain a permanent position at the castle and not be cast out when she turns 18. A mysterious man arrives at the castle who is also secretly searching for the heirs, but can he be trusted?
Terith is a young dragon rider in a different part of the realm. He fights to protect his land from a horde of invaders called the Outlanders. Much of his story centers around the champion challenge. The winner is deemed the new ruler of the land and is also allowed first pick of the eligible maidens for marriage. The competition is fierce and he wants to win not only to rule, but to have first choice of the woman he loves.
The story starts off pretty slow and although there is some fighting and battles, they are more confusing than exciting. The worldbuilding is very slight and at times I didn't really understand everything that was going on. There is a horde of "Outlanders"that the realm must fight every year, but there is no information given as to who they are, where they come from, and why they keep invading year in and year out.
There are apparently 5 realms, but we only really read about 2 of them. The others are causally referred to when discussing the rumors of the location of the heirs. It is presumed that Toran is dead, but there is no real answer as to whether he is or not. There seem to be significant time jumps between some of the stories, but the reader is left to guess as to what these are. There is no information given as to why the castle is still running, who is in charge while there is no heir and how the realms continue to work together with no apparent government.
With regard to Terith, apparently the people that he lives with have some kind of magical power called the "awakening", but there is little description of what this is, what different kinds there are or where it comes from. There are several kinds of dragons but the descriptions of them raise more questions than provide answers.
Normally I devour fantasy books quickly, but it took me quite awhile to read this book. That's not a good thing. I do think the series has a lot of promise if the author can provide more worldbuilding in the next book. I will probably check out the next book in the series.
Being a fan of the fantasy genre the minute I saw the cover and read the title of this book I was intrigued, and reading the blurb only made me even more curious and let's just say I'm really glad I found out about Fall of the Dragon Prince.
There was a king who once united the kingdoms of this world, but with him gone, enemies and danger are lurking, but he had hoped that his secret heirs survived, because then it'd be up to them to face the upcoming challenges.
This story focuses on two characters Terith and Reann, and they couldn't have more different escenarios. While Terith is a dragon warrior, hoping to become chief and gained the heart of the woman he loves; Reann is an orphan servant girl. Both of their stories are incredibly interesting, there is more action on Terith's side, Reann's is more political but still they're both captivating.
I think the book starts a bit slow, I had a bit of trouble advancing at first but once it picks up and you get hooked in the story it flows really well. The writing is very detailed but without being overwhelming or boring, you have great characters and a world that you can tell the author put a lot of work into creating it. I know I can't wait for the sequel and I'd absolutely re commend this book not just to fantasy fans but to everyone!
Epic fantasy. Multiple storylines. Slow start, but caught fire fast. The leap from character to character was finely tuned. "Medieval" sea battles, dragon riders, magic, betrayal. The mystery of the heirs was foremost in the book. Great worldbuilding, protagonists wonderfully written. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Netgalley.
