Having always had an interest in gypsies, their lifestyle and their customs / beliefs, I was immediately drawn to this book... and it didn't disappoint. The individual characters were exquisitely drawn, and insights into all things gypsy were icing on the cake. The story centers on a young girl's dead body found within a stone's throw of a particular gypsy family of three (grandfather, grand-daughter and grand-son), and two law enforcement investigators -- one local and one state -- assigned to the girl's case. The investigation is fraught with tension, as one investigator is sympathetic to the gypsies while the other is motivated by hate for them. The story is beautifully told, the characters vivid and believable, and the plot is full of twists and turns. A great couple of days' entertainment. Highly recommended!
