I did not finish - I have tried reading this book on multiple occasions and just could not get into it.
Funny and entertaining! A fun story about a stinky pup who becomes a pirate.
Cute illustrations for a fun story about a stinky dog who becomes a pirate
Spike has the best sniffer in the seven seas and it takes him all the way from the dock yard to a real treasure hunting pirate ship. In order to get home he agrees to help Captain Fishbeard and his crew find treasure. While they don’t always agree on what counts as treasure many interesting and smelly things are found.
I absolutely adored this book. It is a fun little chapter book with detailed full color illustrations. The characters are wonderfully written and have the best names. It kept me laughing and I am sure it will keep kids who are just starting to transition from picture books to chapter book entertained as well.
On a side note, I think I have met Stinky Spike when I lived on a sailboat for a year. He was sweet, loved to sniff things, was very good at scaring birds away from the boats, and was of course smelly.
What happens when a shipyard dog gets washed out to sea. When Spike is rescued by pirates after a couple of days floating around in a bucket full of garbage, he smells terrible. To earn his keep on the pirate ship he tells them he can sniff out treasure. What happens when Spike sniffs out everything but treasure. Sail away with Spike and Captain Fishbeard on this fun adventure. This is another great entry into the early chapter books, this one probably geared towards boys, especially reluctant readers. They will love some of the disgusting smells that Stinky Spike comes across. The illustrations are wonderful. They fit the story perfectly and again are just gross enough for little boys to love them. I recommend this book to public, school and class libraries.
