This is one for fans of historical fiction. Set in 14th century Germany, it's an interesting read that is unique in its subject matter,
Set in Germany in the 14th century, this novel continues the story of Malden Goldmann, whose passion for medicine takes a back seat to her personal life with her husband and children-until she gets word that her father-in-law Peter has gone blind and she is called upon to help by assisting a young doctor in a procedure to hopefully restore his vision. This doctor invites her to attend his medical lectures all of which reawakens her passion for medicine once again but also creates a conflict and ultimately a decision as to whether to return to her family wholeheartedly and leave her passion behind or to return to and follow her passion for medicine. This is a very good depiction of women in medicine in ancient time. Good characterization, interesting plot-overall a great read.
Not one of my favorite books...it was different. It ended abruptly - not my type of mystery book. I did like how domestic violence was addressed..
