Leighton and Maverick are destined to be together from childhood. Unfortunate family circumstances pulls maverick away for a decade before he comes back into town and things really heat up (like really).

For such a lengthy book I was hoping for a bit more drama and/or conflict like I would find in a more traditional romance. The story definitely kept me reading and I will read the rest of the series to see where everyone ends up.

Cowboy romance? Don't mind if I do!

I enjoyed the story of the alpha-male former rodeo star and the left behind first love bakery owner. There is a lot of drama and angst, and while I enjoy a little in my romance, this one felt over the top in that department. Both of the main characters needed to heal from their respective losses, but there were several times where they seemed more immature than their ages suggested. I am very curious about the rest of the Davis siblings, so I plan to continue reading the series, but I am hoping for a little less of the teen angst feeling.

Really enjoyed this book and the characters were great. It was definitely a book that I needed right now and I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series.

I've been so excited to read this book ever since I found out Harper was writing a cowboy romance and she didn't disappoint! Books like these make me want to leave California and go to places where everyone seems so nice and the southern hospitality is evident 😄
The second chance these characters got took a long time but their journey was well written and emotional. It was all worth it though, Harper delivered everything you could want in this story. And now I'm really excited to read more in this series! I've loved all of Harper's previous work (at least the ones I've read so far) and this one is no exception!

The Last Rider is the perfect western romance. The characters are deep and rich and flow well together with the story. This book is about retired r rodeo star Maverick Davis and Leighton James who grew up together in the same small town. After a very rocky relationship with his father Maverick leaves the small town to ride the rodeo circuit. Having had one too many head injuries, his rodeo career is over. Living a hard life for the last 10 years that field by a whole lot regret. He has to decide if he can give Leighton a chance to be a part of his life.
Leighton however has grown up since he left. She’s not the same person he left behind. She is a business owner no longer a child but she has loved Maverick since she was 16 years old he shattered her heart when he left 10 years ago will he be able to repair their relationship and get her back? Check out Last Rider from the Coming Home series by Harper’ Sloan.

Incredible book I loved every minute of it! Everything Author Harper Sloan writes is amazing to say the least.

For fans of cowboys and alpha males, this was my first Harper Sloan bool and it definitely won’t be my last by any means.

I was excited to read this series as I quite liked the Corps security series and I also like cowboy romances so I was excited that Harper was throwing her hat into this genre.

It was sweet but also predictable but I did like the Davis siblings back story. This part kept me the enthralled with the story. Leighton was a giggler and a giggling heroine is my least favorite heroine.

It was sweet and can't wait for more.

I'm sure I loved it. I always do when it's a country romance. Never fails. They are my not-so-guilty pleasure. But for good measure I'll read it again.

Good writing But I couldn't connect with any of the main characters. Fans of the author may love it. Maybe it wasn't for me.

Well, Harper Sloan absolutely knows how to put your heart through the ringer- that is for sure. In every one of her books, and trust me- I've read them ALL, she's taken me to hell and back with my emotions. I have cried, screamed, laughed and even cussed. But they have been some of the greatest things that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. And Lost Rider..... well, it is just the latest to add to that list. Maverick and Leighton. Wow. There are no words. I mean it. This one will flat out break your heart, and then patch that sucker right back up again- even better than before.
Now, I have to say, in the beginning, I had the impression that Maverick was just a bitter, washed up cowboy, with a chip on his shoulder. One that he decided to toss at everyone in his path because he was mad at the world, since his life had suddenly taken a turn he never expected. I thought he was arrogant and selfish, and deserved all of the animosity that his brother and Leighton dealt him. That was before I knew. Before I knew the pain. The pain that Maverick Davis had endured throughout his entire life. And I mean gut wrenching pain. Pain that made me hurt for him, and made me realize why the man was the way he was. And suddenly, I got it. And I fell hard for him. I wanted everything for Maverick Davis. I wanted love, happiness, but above all of that- I wanted him to finally have peace in his life.
There was only one thing in the world that could ever give him all of those things, and that was Leighton James, and I wanted her to be that for him. Not only did he deserve everything like that, but so did she. She deserved to have the power to heal the man that she had loved her entire life. For a girl that felt like everything had been ripped away from her, and to feel like her life had spiraled out of control for so long, she deserved that chance. And she rose to the occasion beautifully.
There was nothing, and I mean not one thing, that I didn't love about this book. It was certainly a roller coaster of emotions, but it was a freaking beautiful ride. One that I am thrilled to have gotten a ticket for. And I can't wait to stand in line for the rest of the carnival as well, when Quinn and Clay finally meet their matches, because that is gonna be something else, for sure!

This was a quick read. It was a good introduction to the series and the supporting characters are all interesting. However the drama was all in the beginning of the book and quickly resolved. Some points that are brought up are never discussed, she got plastic surgery in part because of how he made her feel. Then when it's his POV there are frequent mentions of how he loves her breasts.

I really wanted to love this book, but I just didn't. About the only thing that I did love is that every chapter title was a country song. I didn't like either of the main characters and I just felt that there was not much of a storyline. Unfortunately, Lost Rider just wasn't for me.

Review: LOST RIDER: Maverick Davis has been forced into retirement from the PBR due to having suffered one too many concussions. Though he would rather stay mind-numbingly drunk, he must return to the small town he grew up in, a town he swore never to return to, to show support for his brother and sister.

Though he loves his brother and baby sister, Maverick would prefer that they come to him whenever they wanted to see him, not the other way around. He has not gotten over the anger that he has carried for the last ten years towards his abusive father and only went to his funeral because he found it hard to say no to his persuasive sister.

Maverick is an absolute jerk and barely changed in the whole book. He was nasty towards Leighton and kept insulting her time and time again. Leighton forgave him much too easily and I found that nearly unforgivable. She isn’t a weak character, she just couldn’t resist him no matter how much she wished she could.

I love western books and this is truly a western romance. I’m also a big fan of first person stories and was excited that we could get Maverick’s POV and Leighton’s every other chapter.

If I had to talk about one thing I didn’t like (besides Maverick’s pompous nature), it would be the language used. As a woman of faith there are words that I don’t say nor allow in my house. There are also several hot as fire, graphically written sex scenes that didn’t hold back.

Loved Leighton and Maverick’s love story. Even this was an emotional there were some funny moments. Great read about a broken man dealing with his past and the woman who heals and loves him. Redemption and forgiveness. Recommended read

I'm loving this new series from Harper Sloan. I mean, what's not to love about a cowboy?

Mav and Leigh were easy to love. With sizzling chemistry and banter I loved, it wasn't hard to fall for these two. I rooted for their second chance and cheered them on as they navigated a bumpy road. With a set of side characters that were easy to connect with, Lost Rider is a definite must read.

Maverick, bull rider who is coming back home for his father's funeral. He is heading back home for good since too many head injuries caught up with him and he is done for his career as rodeo star. He never turn back since he left and now he is back and need to resettle back.
Leighton James never forgotten Maverick ever since he broken her heart into million pieces. She was ready to reveal her love to Maverick when she knew he would be leaving soon. Ever since then, her self esteem took a hit and never wanted to look back.
Now she sees Maverick, everything is coming back to her, his harsh words and his presents wrecking a havoc on her body as well. When Maverick doesn't recognize Leighton, she feels mad and sad at the same time.
Now, they feel the strong pull toward each other and when they share one night stand. Everything changes for both.
Maverick seems unsettled and Leighton is not sure if he deserves her second chance. Both need to work out so many issues that gets in the way...

I had difficult time liking both character for awhile. Understanding their childhood solved his attitude and it made perfect sense. I can't wait to read about all the Davis's siblings. They are all suffering emotionally, physically due to his father. I wonder what would happen to his other siblings.

It had been eleven days since the doctor had told Maverick/Mav his career was over. Eleven days of drinking himself into a stupor. Mav had become the thing he had swore he would never be , become the man that raised him. Mav had everything he ever wanted in the palm of his hand. Riding was all Mav had ever needed and now it was gone. Ten years of living his dreams and then it was gone. Bull riding is one of the two things in Mav’s life that bring him peace. Mav still had a fearless streak. For almost ten years Maverick had been the biggest name in professional bull riding. He had always been able to conquer the bulls until Lucifer. Then the doctor said Mav had too many head injuries. One more and he would be taken out of the arena in a body bag. So Maverick was heading home and his older brother Clay was calling again to see when he would get there. Quinn was Mav’s sister. Their father had died and they wanted Mav at the church. Mav had a rough childhood. But their father hadn’t wanted Maverick around ten years ago. Just being home made Mav feel trapped all over again. There was one thing Mav had wanted more than riding but he had run away from it to chase his dreams and lived with the regret since. No matter what he had done or accomplished it still hadn’t made his father proud of Mav. Then Mav thought of Leighton/Leigh. Mav had known Leigh had a crush on him for years. But Leigh didn’t want to leave Pine Oak. Leigh and Quinn were best friends and she sat next to Quinn in church to comfort her. Leigh still loves Mav Leigh was now a baker and owned the Pie Hole.
I enjoyed this book. It was a good hot romance and I loved it. I liked the plot also. I loved Leigh and Mav together. I felt this was well written. His was a passionate sweet second chance romance story. At times this book dragged for me The chemistry between Leigh and Mav was sizzling. This caught my interest from the beginning and held it until the end. I love how it focused on the healing of Mav and Leigh. This was a little repetitive at times. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.
