Netgalley has given me the unique opportunity of reading this series.
This was a fast-paced story, full of mystery and romance.
I really felt for Sentinel whose sister was murderer, you could really see he had been suffering for two years.
The cops hadn't been able to find the perpetrator so he took matters into his own hands, and the SOB's were his back-up.
Ashley wasn't a great character, not awful but not great. I get she's a reporter and it's her job but I didn't much like the scene outside the precinct when Ryder is questioned.
I received a free review copy of this book by NetGalley
After serving several years in war zones, Josh set up a business with his childhood friends: a bar. A place that is the operation center of the Sentinels of Babylon, a group founded to get all the murderers, rapists, etc that the system set free without paying for their crimes.
Ashley is a journalist who met Josh just the same day his sister was buried. Now two years later, she is in charge of investigating a serial killer who is thought to have killed Josh’s sister.
The story is well-written and well-developed. There are so many things going on that it is amazing how the author wraps all of them up and put them in their right place little by little to maintain the spirit, the mystery and the intrigue till the very last minute.
The idea of having citizens taking the law into their own hands when the system fails to do it is difficult to accept but however, I could understand it. It is difficult to have someone you love hurt and the person responsible not being punished for it.
I liked the idea of a tough guy cuddling up babies. I loved Ryder. I’m looking forward to reading her story.

This has a long, twisted story line. It was somewhat convoluted and predictable, which I found to be somewhat disappointing.
Josh has a kind soul, but has done some very unkind things. He has some vengeful thoughts regarding his sister's murder. He has wanted to find out how to bring the killer to justice and he will stop at nothing to find a way to do just that.
Then you have Ashley. She is a pit bull when it comes to a story. Not only will she protect a source, but she'll put herself in harm’s way to get the answers. When she stumbles on a story that involves a special hunting club, she finds herself in the path of Josh and his vigilante group.
Despite the significant plot development, I think that this story was too predictable. You knew that in the end, they would be together less than half way through the book.
Even with the twists and turns, which weren't very dynamic, you could see the ending. Overall, this was a fairly successful love story, but not a very successful revenge story.

Ashley Carver is a journalist. Tragedy struck in her teens, causing her to be an adrenaline junkie. The adrenaline takes over the depression she feels most of the time. Twelve years later she's still chasing that high. Having some of the hottest sex of her life in the back of the jeep of a sexy biker who just buried his sister.
Josh Lehmen (Sentinel) is a member of the Sons of Babylon. A vigilante club working on the orders of the "judge." The people they go after are guilty of horrible crimes that for one reason or another justice was never served. It's been two years since Josh's sister was killed. He knows her husband Stan had something to do with it. Just when he was about to make his move, he sees the face of a woman he hasn't seen in two years. Why was Ashley talking to Stan? Did it have something to do with Sarah's murder?
Ashley has information Josh wants. Josh still carries that danger that Ashley needs. Can two people completely dangerous for each other make it work?
I enjoyed Sentinel and Ashley's story. I like the suspense aspect trying to figure out who the killer was. Josh and Ashley were insta-love with explosive chemistry. I'm interested to see where the next story goes.
Bad boy meets adrenaline junky reporter girl. The reporters case pushes them together but their heat keeps them there. They come from different worlds but does it matter? Will he step up when shes in danger and will she accept ALL of him?
This is the second book in this standalone series, and I read and reviewed the first book. I remember thinking I wasn't sure about this series because it condones killing.....really bad guys..... instead of trying to bring them to trial. The SOB gang is a group of vigilantes made up of a retired cop, a former CIA, a retired prison warden and and a special ops soldier. This story is about Sentinel, the soldier, and a journalist, Ashley, who has grown up on Long Island with a Dr. For a father and a society mother. She has rebelled from them for reasons that are brought forth during the first of the book, but she is still the voice of conscience in this relationship. I am still not sold on the purpose of this Gang (band) or whatever you want to call it. They are guided by a mysterious figure who leads them in the direction of "really" bad guys that need eliminating but I must say the plot is really good and I was totally intrigued with the story line. This book is not quite romantic suspense but has a better plot than many "contemporary" romance books. The sex is hot so there is that part of this book but if you have ever read any of Jamie Schmitt's books, you know that is part of her books. An uncomfortable enjoyable read. Thanks as always to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book for an honest review. It is definitely honest!
What a great story! The suspense throughout the whole book kept it extremely interesting. I loved how everything pulled together in the end. Ashley and Josh were fantastic together. And the SOB's, especially Ryder, are great additions to the story. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy.
LOVE! Well now aren't the SOB's just the hottest, coolest motorcycle gang out there. Yes, including the female member Ruder- can't wait for her story.
Sentinel's Kiss gives us the hot and electric story between SOB member Josh "Sentinel" Lehman and the nosy reporter Ashley Carver. Having previously met up .. uh um.. I mean hooked up a few years ago, there is a story and a past with these two that is H-O-T! Ok, maybe even a little weird or morbid- read as to why!.
Hot on the heels of a maybe serial killer, Ashley is obsessed with recent murders that she feels are all linked. She is super smart and finds herself in danger for being so intuitive as to the recent happenings. This brings Josh and Ashley back together to find out what is actually going on. Teaming up leads to a reigniting of their initial chemistry and they can't fight it nor keep their hands of one another. Being from a society family, Josh "Sentinel" far from fits in with Ashley's family's opinion on who she should be with, but Sentinel has some super cute and heart melting secrets that might just win over Ashley and her family. OR will the dangerous, mysterious secrets he and his club harbor be the end to what he and Ashley have before it can begin.
Hot on the trail of murder, human trafficking, rape and out for revenge, err I mean to avenge- the SOBs are a gang that grabs your attention and makes you want to join in.
I haven't read the first book of this series, but definitely will after reading this book.
Sentinel's Kiss by Jamie K. Schmidt......This book was fast paced and I did not want it to end. The story kept me on the edge of my seat with all the suspense and action. Josh and Ashley have so much chemistry and perfect together. Jamie K. Schmidt keep you entertained in her stories, I love her books. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book from publisher via NetGalley.
I don't think this book was for me, it started off and right away I was confused and felt like I started watching a t.v show in the middle. I didn't really feel the chemistry between the H and the h and maybe that's what really threw me off, even when they were having sex, it felt forced and not in the good way.
Wordy and not for me.
Awesome contemporary motorcycle club romance. Josh (Sentinel) is former military. The Sentinels of Babylon take on exterminating those proven criminals that the system misses. Some call them vigilantes. Sentinels pregnant sister was killed a few years ago and he wants justice/revenge. Ashley was at the funeral for his sister and they hooked up. Neither forgot the other but Ashley was a good investigative reporter that could be a problem for the SOB's. The story includes violence, suspense, intrigue as well as romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.
The SOB's are back! I couldn't wait to get Sentinel's story and hopefully get to the bottom of his sisters murder.
I loved Sentinel's story! What a character! Tough, badass, and a kind soul all wrapped up into one. And Ashley is great, head strong and a spit fire. They were perfect for each other.
The plot is great. It kept you engrossed the entire time. Sentinel and the SOB's are out for Sarah's, Sentinel's sister, murderer. Ashley is a reporter. Being that the SOB's are a group of vigilantes, I'm sure you can see how a reporter would be trouble for the group! Murder, mystery, and hot, steamy scenes, what more can you ask for?
Sentinel and Ashley both have tough issues from their pasts they are dealing with. Throw in getting to the bottom of Sarah's murder, and a serial killer on the loose; they have a lot to deal with. Can they work through their lifestyle differences and help each other move forward? You definitely want to find out.
A fun and exciting story filled with mystery and action. I can't wait to see whose story is next. I'm hopeful it's Ryder and Munson!
There is not much that bothers me more than an incredible book being ruined by continuity issues. To say this book was ruined is a bit too harsh, but it definitely took my rating down.
Let me jump into some of the good. Josh aka Sentinel and Ashley are perfect for each other. It may not seem like it from the outside since she grew up with caring parents in a privileged neighborhood while he grew up with abusive parents in a not so great neighborhood. Yet Sentinel and Ashley work. They’re both adrenaline junkies with soft hearts. They bring out the best in each other while also meeting any challenge the other throws their way. For some reason their connection makes sense, so much so that they open up to each other about things they don’t generally talk about with anyone else. It’s a very sweet relationship on that level.
I enjoyed meeting all of the SOB gang in the first book so I would have like to see more of them here. The interaction among this tight group of friends is something special. Although in this book the interactions are often quite serious, there is also a teasing and fun side to the group that we get to see. I liked seeing Ryder a bit more and I found her connection to Ashley quite interesting.
In my review of Necessary Evil I mention that Evil has a good moral compass and things don’t cross too far into vigilante justice. It was a bit jarring how vigilante the group seemed to be in this story. Don’t get me wrong, they still had great reasons for everything they did. And when it comes to Sentinel’s side project of trying to avenge his sister’s death I get that emotions play into it all. But some of the things he did, while in my mind are warranted, seemed a bit too much for a guy who is trying to NOT draw suspicion his way.
As you can probably tell, I feel there is a lot going for this book. It is fun and sexy and exciting while also throwing in a mystery and some drama. That is why errors that take me out of the story really upset me. I can forgive calling Army Basic Training “boot camp” since it’s only mentioned once (FYI: boot camp is for the Navy and Marines and sometimes even the Air Force, which also will uses Basic Military Training. The Army is Basic Combat Training. For ease of use, Navy & Marines = boot camp while Air Force & Army = basic training). What I can’t ignore is when in one chapter Sentinel asks Ashley about her going to Afghanistan and the next chapter he is surprised when he finds out Ashley was in Afghanistan. What?!? This is not a problem with terminology that only a Navy wife and Army mom would know. This is a blatant mistake that someone should have caught. Of course I’m going to notice other mistakes more readily after that. Like a point being made that they drove the Jeep somewhere but the sound of Sentinel starting up his motorcycle is written about as they’re leaving.
So while I still love this series and thoroughly enjoyed this book, I have to take a star off of my rating. There were just too many little mistakes that pulled me out of the story and dampened my enjoyment of reading this book. Please know that I realize I have an ARC of this book and some things will and can change before publication. The problem is I’m not a beta reader. The mistakes I was picking up on are not the type that should have been addressed before the ARC was sent out to early readers/reviewers. If I find the biggest issues are fixed when the book is published I will change my review to 4.5 stars.
3.5 stars
I was drawn to the premise of this series right away because of my love of true crime. The Sentinels are an MC club that all have law enforcement backgrounds of some kind (military, CIA, police, etc) and they work with a judge to perform vigilante justice. Sentinel, aka Josh, is still grieving the murder of his sister and he feels that it was her husband that committed the crime. The cops let him go though and 2 years laster, Josh is ready to take matters into his own hands. Ashley is a reporter investigating new leads in the case. Turns out there were other murders that have the same MO as Sarah, Josh's sister. Ashley and Josh met 2 years ago and had a 1 night stand so there is some sexual tension between them.
One think I loved about this book was that true crime investigation feel. Ashley is determined to get this case viewed by millions of people, knowing that someone knows something. The author did a great job with weaving the tale of whodunit and I appreciated that a great deal. The sexual tension between Ashley and Josh is super hot too. He wants to push her away because his life is not good for her. Ashley is intelligent, tenacious, and endearing. I liked her! Josh takes a bit longer to warm up to, but as a reader, I can understand him. As a former soldier who was brought up in an abusive, neglectful household, he feels that he somehow failed his sister. He also feels strongly about punishing people who engage in abuse of women and children. His tortured back ground makes him gruff and harsh, but someone, understandably so.
If you like crime stories, Sentinel's kiss is a great pick. If you like the vigilante spin on your MC stories, you will love Sentinel and the Sentinels of Babylon. If you like an opposites attract story, you will love Ashley and Josh.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Sentinels of Babylon are a group of ...well, vigilante's. They come from different backgrounds and all have their special talents... They get their orders from "the judge" and the targets are usually scum who have gotten away with the crime. In this story, Josh is an ex-green beret, a sniper. He is after the man who brutally murdered his pregnant sister...his brother-in-law.
Ashley is a reporter and she has linked the death of Josh's sister with several others murders that have happened? Is there a serial murderer out there? Ashley goes to interview Josh for her story and they both receive a surprise...it seems they hooked up a few years back and left quite the impression on each other.
When Ashley tells Josh of her findings, he has to admit to himself that there is a possibility his brother-in-law is actually innocent, which is tough for him. He decides to involve himself in Ashley's investigation which serves 2 purposes...he can keep and eye on her and continue where they left off a few years ago.
Will the killer be identified? And will they survive?
Josh and Ashley come from 2 totally different backgrounds. She came from money, he didn't. She doesn't flaunt the money, she isn't that impressed with it. She has her secrets too though, a secret that cripples her emotionally.
As Josh spends more time with her, he finds he doesn't want to give her up. He thinks of her as his.
She feels that she has nothing to offer and will take what time she can with him. Along with this, there is an Internal Affairs cop that is determined to take down the SOB's, if he could only get the evidence.
This story brings some mixed feelings, something each one of us has experienced. As a society we don't generally approve of vigilantism but what if it was your loved one? Can Ashley deal with this if and when she finds out?
The story has some interesting twists and turns, just when you think you have it figured out...you don't! As tough as Josh is, he has another side to him that is really wonderful.
It is a good read....give it a try! Oh and the cover? I love the cover, it is beautiful and sexy at the same time. It is the best I have seen in awhile and I think it fits the characters.
Once again Ms. Tyler knocked it out most the park with the second book in the series. Sentinel was such an alpha badass. At times tried to figure out how all that alpha-ness that occurs within the four SOBs could be contained in one room. Ashley wasn't too far from being a badass herself. She sniffed out a story and went for it no holds barred. They make a scorching hot couple.
I read an ARC so I'm not sure if this will be in the final print, but I had one huge issue with the book. It occurred when they're laying in bed together talking and he asked her about being in Afghanistan. Later, when they're sitting in the diner with the other SOBs, Ryder asks her about Afghanistan and Josh gets all butthurt cause she never told him she was in Afghanistan. Uh, yeah you guys just talked about it two chapters ago.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
'Sentinel's Kiss' by Jamie K. Schmidt is book Two in the "Sentinels of Babylon" series. This is the story of Ashley and Josh aka..Sentinel. I have not yet read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book.
Josh's sister was killed two years ago which has left him heartbroken and wanting vengeance. So with him and his friends have formed a Club of sorts to deal with bad people. Josh still has vengeance in site for his brother-in law who he thinks killed his sister.
Ashley is a reporter and she met Josh at his sister's funeral. Where they were both instantly attracted to each other an acted on that attraction with a one time encounter. Now two years later Ashley is looking into new information on Josh's sister death along with some other women that are being murdered. Ashley has gone back to interview the brother-in law and Josh. When they both meet again after two years they find they are still attracted to each other. But Josh is still keeping a cold attitude with her at first. Yes, he has sexual contact and says sexual things to her but his is keeping his heart and emotions tightly bound to him. But with Ashley looking into these death it has put a target on her. Can Josh move past the pain and accept that he has feeling for Ashley? Can Ashley remain save and try to help bring this killer to justice?
This was a very exciting, drama filled...hot read!
"My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."
Ok, but I was more interested in a secondary character than the main characters.
I didn't finish. I had a hard time with all the different aspects to the story. I was intrigued by the serial killer mystery. I wanted to like the outlaw justice and brotherhood of the Sentinels, but I didn't connect with it. I found Josh and Ashley's love scenes to take me away from the suspense aspect. I didn't care for the coldblooded nature of Josh killing the men who held the nurse captive and his abrasive treatment of her.
Ashley is a reporter who is looking into an unsolved murder. Josh is an ex Green Beret who believes his brother-in-law murdered his sister two years ago. The two become involved when Ashley's life becomes endangered. An unlikely pairing that leads to some steamy scenes. A promising beginning to a new series.
I didn't love this book. The main characters were a little off, with the male lead being an ass most of the book. The story seemed to bounce around a lot too.
