This is the first book I have read by Sloane Howell and it won't be my last. It was very emotion and Howell pulled me in from the first chapter! Ethan and Jenny are an unlikely duo who somehow make it work! The secondary characters really gave an extra layer to the book as well.
I went in with the hope that this will be requiring a 4 or 5 stars review..
The blurb was really appealing but the story was so predictable and plain..I mean it was like many other stories with a similar theme..
Loved it!
So, why is Bossed amazing? Because it centers around two very well-developed, richly textured characters who feel real. Howell makes you feel like you're sitting in the cube beside Julie as Ethan flys off the handle about her less than stellar work. Or like you're in the living room with Jenny's dad as he belly-aches about the girls talking about sex. Oh, and the story is smoking hot and full of secondary characters I want to learn all about when they (hopefully) star in their own full length stories.
Sloane Howell can safely add another fan to his list of admirers. I'm hooked.
As a side note: Not until I read the author's short bio did I realize he's a dude. That's refreshing and perfect, really. It may seem sexist, but the male romance authors I’ve read before are often too... aggressive is the term that comes to mind. Not because their writing includes scary BDSM shenanigans necessarily, but because they write sex scenes filled with things that guys like, but most women I know find foolish or unpleasant. They seem to be writing these scenes for heterosexual men, but put nearly naked men on the cover as though the book is intended for women. Hallelujah, none of that tomfoolery is found here.
I received an ARC of this book, via Net Galley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I'm having a tough time not tearing this book apart. I've read 58% and just can't go on (even though I greatly appreciate the opportunity to read it!). Maybe I'm too old for the intended age of the reader (47), but I'm scared that real 20/30 somethings really speak and act the way these characters do. Put that aside, No one would speak to each other the way these 2 people do--not in my world anyway. They blame their problems on having a parent leave them at an early age--okay I'm sure they grow from this, but come on. The dirty talk seems excessive and gratuitous. And come on, they are young but not rabbits--even youngsters get a little tired once in a while. The message seems to be, be strong and independent until some "hot" man orders you to be otherwise. Poor hot man, his mommy left him when he was young, so he has the right to treat people badly. Even the cover with the smirking guy on it bothers me...I don't mind not liking characters if the story is well-written and compelling, and I don't like to be too harsh because I can't write more than my name on a piece of paper, but this book was so infuriating! Take the story parts out and just read the well-crafted sex scenes if that is what you are interested in--take them out and the story is about a misogynistic (sp?!), entitled man and his unrefined, yet "intelligent" girlfriend. Thank you for the free read, but no thanks. Sorry to be so harsh. I just was so disgusted by this story.
This was fun and flirty and I was happy to read a romance written by a male author! While some of the drama felt off to me (use your words, adults!) but I liked a lot of the chemistry. Recommended for fans of contemporary romance with sassy characters and wounded heroes.
Jenny Jackson is caring for her terminally ill father and needs to land the job working Ethan Mason's sports agency. Ethan is the owner of Mason and Associates. He is also a cold and unlikable man in the office. The first meeting between the two does not go well but his private side comes out during this story. Although there were still times that I really didn't care for Ethan I loved Jenny. She had grit and courage and determination. The story is fast paced and except for one part of the story where Ethan stays away from Jenny (when I think it would have been more in character for him to come to her) I enjoyed this book.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I started this book and finished all in one setting. From the first page to the last I was captivated by the story-line! Hot, steamy, funny, and serious all rolled into one. Great story line, well developed characters, I'll be looking to this author for more!! Great job! I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
This book was an okay read. There were times I liked and disliked the main characters because of their actions. However, I did enjoy the banter between the characters but at the end I just felt as if something was missing.
Fangirling! I absolutely loved this book - Ethan's assholeness and all! I'm going to be honest and say I read a few reviews of this book before I decided to read it, and not all of them were pleasant. I was more attentive to this book due to those reviews and it just made me love it even more. It's not anything special or 6 stars on my rating scale, but I can assure you it's better than you probably think it is.
The book is centered on Ethan and Jenny. Ethan is a sports agent, an asshole, but at the same time caring and sweet. He has a weak spot for Jenny from the moment he met her and although he's a jerk for a good 50% of the book, he always tends to make up for it in the most considerate ways. Seriously if I had an Ethan for a boyfriend I would never complain.
Then there is Jenny. Jenny is struggling to pay her fathers medical bills. Growing up with an absent mother, her father is her world and taking care of him is the most important thing in her life. Her and her best friend Kelsey spend almost every day with him unless their working. This is tough especially because working for Ethan means work work work.
I loved how there was no delay in Ethan and Jenny's relationship. Although in the first few chapters they struggle to step across the employee and boss line, soon enough they give in to their mutual attraction and take a chance. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to shake Ethan and tell him to just shove it! Seriously he poor his foot into his mouth quite a few times, but he always manages to make their arguments worth while...if you know what I mean.
Jenny needs a new job her father’s medical bills are out of control. The opportunity to work under Ethan is too good to be true.
As soon as Ethan sees Jenny he knows he is going to hire her. He can’t even think straight when she is in the room. He has to have her.
Jenny just wants to worry about spending her days with her Dad as his condition is getting worse everyday. Adding Ethan to the mix is dangerous territory for her. She can’t resist him and he can’t resist her. Ethan has to put his arrogance behind him and get over his past in order to move forward.
This book is hot hot hot one kiss form Ethan and Jenny is gone. Not only does Ethan fall for her body but for her brain as well.
I loved Bossed!!!! Ethan and Jenny's story was equal parts sweet and steamy. The story and characters were well developed, believable, and relatable. I devoured the book in one sitting....it's a definite mommy's ordering takeout kind of book. I'm glad I picked this one. I'm going to see what else this author has done!!!
Loved it!!! A sexy romance with the new hire ready to take charge of the hot-shot sports agent. He is used to calling the shots and falls for his employee, even though he knew he shouldn't. I love the back and forth between Jenny and Ethan and really could not put the book down. Will recommend for sure!
I like the concept of the book but it failed to deliver for me.
I like the initial sass and banter between Ethan and Jenny but they were teetering in meanness. They didn't have the playful banter that I was hoping for.
I also didn't feel chemistry between the pair. They went about the motions but it was lacking for me.
I really enjoyed this book! A lot sexy, a little sweet, I loved this couple. Jenny and Ethan push each others buttons and it makes for an entertaining read. Can't wait for the next in the series!
I loved this story! Ethan Mason and Jenny Jackson, whew...the chemistry was off the pages hot. I love a story where the heroine gives as good as she gets and this story did not disappoint. This book had me from the first paragraph, and I could not put it down. Great read that I would definitely recommend!
This is not your typical Millionaire boss and smitten employee, that he happens to fall for but has a dark past and no one is close to him so he uses BDSM as a way to control... or the other types of Millionaire/Billionaire story.
This book was a breath of fresh air...
Jenny is a strong woman who isn't afraid to stand up for herself. When she runs into a jerk before an interview (for a job she really needs and wants) she has no idea it's about to change her life.
Ethan is taken by the woman on the street who gave his attitude right back to him. Neither thought they'd see each other again..... until she walked in for her interview.
The chemistry between them is palpable and you could feel it in the writing. Ethan is like a normal guy except he refuses what his heart & soul want.... and Jenny is no mouse. She is smart, strong willed and witty. Each character was developed and you become familiar with them as though they were your friends. If you like steamy romances with real dialogue you will love this book. There was wit, humor, heart break and panties on fire romance. I've already downloaded the author's Pantie Whisperer series because her writing captures you right away!
Whew! This was a steamy read! I liked the chemistry between Ethan and Jenny, but I found Jenny to be a terrible employee and Ethan started off arrogant but ended up completely whiny when Jenny stopped speaking to him. By the end, I was just skim-reading to get to the happily-ever-after.
Are you searching for a book with a sexy, filthy, alpha male then look no further? Ethan Mason owns Mason and Associates, a sports agency; he is the boss you love to hate, but he is so sexy! Jenny Jackson is on her way to an interview when she bumps into a “beautiful asshole” only to find out he is her interviewer. She schools Ethan in baseball stats and gets the job! They have a mutual attraction and chemistry that cannot be ignored. Their interactions are feisty, so sexy and amusing. They get their HEA after a few bumps in the road. I could not put this book down it was an entertaining, compulsive read that was in turns raunchy, witty, and blue. It is well written, with 2 strong leading characters and a supporting cast that enhances the story.
I liked this book, but it wasn't what I expected from this author. It was very well written, and had a great story but, I feel the writer could have done so much more. It just felt off for me. I would buy this and recommend to other readers only because this authors' work is usually so much better.
