There are a lot of schmexy books with Alpha men and Destitute women. But there are few written at this level of perfection. Jenny Jackson is desperate for a job. She has a sick father with lots of medical bills and no money to pay them. As she's heading up to an interview, she bumps into someone and they battle it out. Just as she regroups from the verbal altercation with the hot stranger, she heads into the interview and who is sitting behind the desk...the guy she just ran into.
This story has so much to offer, it's witty, charming and very steamy. The characters are likable and I really hope to see a book two with their friends, Matt and Kelsey.
So, I have been out of the world for a while, burying my head deep down into my books (I mean textbooks!!!) preparing for exams and all ;)
It has been a while and now that I sat down to write the review, this was my first pick. So, I was really having a tough time juggling between things and did not have a moment to relax and it was getting to me. Solution: Read a book, duh!
That's how I picked this book one fine day when I really, really wanted to relax, unwind and forget about everything else! To start with, the sexy cover and the description did me in when I requested for an ARC. That's how we usually decide a book isn't it? First the cover and then the description and of course, the author :P Besides, when you see Loveswept, you don't really need to check anything ... it will be good ;)
Guess I have ranted enough! So, this book was a quick, steamy and interesting read. I liked that Jenny was a strong character and not a doormat. I also liked Ethan ... once we get past the tough exterior and his walls of Troy ;) he's sweet, kind and caring, really! OH, & he has a really FILTHY mouth!
For an interesting and entertaining read, I would have really given this a 5. I was pretty irked with Jenny more than anything in this book ... I liked that she stood up for herself and all ... but overreacting and blaming Ethan when it was not his fault was NOT OK in my books ... I also like that Ethan let it go and did not want her to grovel, but I wanted her to grovel, damn it!
If you want a HOT, steamy, entertaining and interesting read that's not just all spice but also has substance, you have it with Bossed!
I have to admit this is my first book I’ve read from Sloan Howell. And I’m kicking myself for not grabbing one of those books sooner. It’s refreshing to know that not only a woman but a man can write sexy, heart stopping romances to keep me wanting more.
From that very first page I was hooked and couldn’t read this fast enough. Sloan has witty humor and a dirty mind mixing those two into a titillating story. His characters were likeable and relatable. He made the reader fall in love with his characters.
This story had little angst with a mix of humor and sexy scenes. It was a office romance with a twist. It was emotional and heartfelt and melted my heart. From the baseball stats to the flirty comebacks and everywhere in between this book was a sure hit. Sloan hit it out of the park with this story.
I’m sure to pick up another book by this author and devour it just like I did Bossed.
I loved this book and look forward to reading more by Sloane Howell.
I absolutely loved this book and author. A quick fun read!
I liked this fun and funny story. Jenny and Ethan meet on her way to a job interview she badly needs. Her father is sick and the medical bills are piling up. To say their fist meeting went well, would be a lie. Although she finds him attractive, he is a jerk with an attitude. Jenny also has a smart mouth she has trouble controlling so she put him in his place. Well you know how the story goes, he is the boss of the place she is trying to be hired at. She needs this job and tries to keep a things civil until he ticks her off and tells him off. Oddly he hires her. Ethan loves that she speaks her mind and no one does that. But because of his past his attraction to he must be ignored. He tries to keep his distance but its hard. She just pulls at him. One of the best parts of this book is each of them have a best friend that knows them inside and out and helps them both through many things. I am hoping for their story next
Sassy, sexy, witty and funny at times and quite deep at others, Bossed has been a pleasure to read. Protagonists Jenny Jackson and Ethan Mason are strong, well rounded and believable characters and the supporting cast of secondary characters is just as strong. The story is written in the first person, switching chapter by chapter from Jenny's point of view to Ethan's and back again. I don't usually like first person in novels, but it is done well in this one. The story contains a lot of sex, which I think is appropriate for these characters, though it may offend some readers. The pace is fast and kept me on my toes throughout. I really enjoyed this one!
This is not my first book by Slaone Howell and it will definitely not be my last. Bossed is a witty enjoyable read that had me up past my nedtime to finish. While the main story line is the relationship developing between Ethan and Jenny a good majority of the plot is centered around the relationship Jenny has with her dying father. It was so well written that ypu could actually feel the love. I love the banter between Ethan and Jenny and they honestly were a fun couple to read about.
I love how strong willed and sassy Jenny was and she stood up to Ethan but sometimes it was almost too much. Annnnd, I'm pretty sure if I had talked to my boss the way she had I would have been combing the job ads. And I wanted to shake both of them a couple times but overall I would say that I really enjoyed this book. The secondary characters were also a pleasure. They brought the perfect touch to the storyline.
And Sloane, can we talk about Kelsey and Matt because.....book 2 please!!! I'll be waiting!
This is my first book by Sloane. And I was truly delighted by it. I look forward to other books by him. It was witty and entertaining from beginning to end. A refreshing read.
Bossed was a good 4 star read.
Jenny is on her way to a job interview that could change her life, she needs a good job to help pay for her father's medical bills. On the way there she is practically ran over by a man on his cell phone. When she finally gets to her interview she comes face-to-face with the same man. I have to say I was impressed with how she handled herself in the interview.
Ethan is surprised to see Jenny, there is some arrogance that comes off him at first. He challenges her during the interview and is intrigued and gives her the job. Which shocks Jenny.
The chemistry between these two comes right off the pages. You really connect with them.
I had several LOL moments. I loved how spunky Jenny was. And when Ethan and Jenny finally connect sparks fly and the scenes are very hot. He is quite the alpha male.
I really enjoyed Bossed, Sloane Howell does a great job of pulling you write in and you feel like you connect with the characters. They were both lovable in their own ways. Their road wasn't always easy but we do get a HEA. If your looking for a fun read with great characters than 1-click and get started today.

I ended up with some really mixed feelings about this book. I just never really bought Ethan and Jenny together. They both tended to act in ways that were completely different than how they were described by Sloane Howell. For example, Ethan was described as a workaholic, business first, nothing else matters type of man who built his sports agency from the ground up with nothing but the sweat from his brow, but the first time he doesn’t get what he wants from Jenny, he lies and tells his staff he’s out of town and wallows at home eating crappy Chinese food and letting his pristine home turn into a trash pit. Those two characterizations seemed at odds to me. Also, driven business owner doesn’t have to mean asshole who loudly yells and berates his staff in the middle of the office, but it does here. I didn’t understand why anyone would work for him.
Jenny is characterized as being strong, stubborn, and not willing to ever back down. That’s fine, but humiliating your boss by yelling at him in front of all the other employees isn’t the same as strong and stubborn. No matter how hot she is, there’s no way a boss worth his salt would allow an employee to talk to him the way Jenny does, especially in front of the rest of the staff. He would completely lose any respect they had for him, and the entire agency would be chaos. She’s also overly defensive and quick to assume the worst in everyone. After the first time they spent the night together, over coffee the next morning, Ethan mentions that his mom left when he was a kid, and Jenny immediately accuses him of being a liar and trying to fuck with her. It’s a quick scene, it doesn’t turn into a whole fight or anything, but it was just a really strange conversation that showed me exactly how immature and quick to judgement Jenny was. Apparently her own mother left when she was a kid, so she immediately thought Ethan knew that and was trying to mess with her by saying his mother left. I don’t know. Her reaction didn’t make a lot of sense.
My biggest issue with both Ethan and Jenny, though, was that when something went wrong, anything at all, their immediate impulse was to take their anger and frustration out on the other. Immediately. They were really nasty to each other every time something went wrong. Emotions are messy and they don’t always make sense, but if your immediate impulse is to take all of your frustrations out on your partner, that’s a problem. And by the end of the book, I didn’t see any evidence that either one of them had changed. They both recognized it; they both realized that they did it, but they never changed. Ethan, in particular, never even groveled or apologized to Jenny. Every time he screwed up, his best friend Matt went to Jenny and convinced her to go to Ethan. Actually, now that I think about it, Matt went to Jenny and Ethan every time they were in a fight, no matter who had caused it or made the mistake. Take Matt out of this story, and Ethan and Jenny would have never made it as a couple because they would have never spoken after their first fight.
I haven’t read anything by Sloane Howell before, and I didn’t hate this book. I had a lot of problems with Ethan and Jenny, but the writing was solid and the sex scenes were hot. I would read something else by him without hesitation, this one just didn’t quite work for me.
The main reason for my poor review is the heroine. She was full of contradictions and very childish. The story starts off with Jenny going in for an interview for a new job that she desperately needs, due to the mounting medical bills for her terminally ill father. She is very unprofessional......talks back....rolls her eye....etc. in would think she would swallow her pride for this job. Even when she gets the job......she asks for special concessions and talks back to her boss. This was so unrealistic. The H/h goes on one date and suddenly they are having sex everywhere.......there was no connection. Also I felt Ethan was a pushover for Jenny and she was constantly blaming him for everything(some his fault and some definitely not his fault). All in all, she was a very unlike le character. And there was really not a good connection with these two.
I love a meet-cute that is unexpected, and when a gal can both admire and admonish a "beautiful asshole," in a suit in not one but two languages, you can not help but be lured in. Alas, my optimism was soon dashed.
Bossed is your typical alpha male/pseudo damsel heroine fare, thus no big surprises. It would be a nice enough read if it were a unique telling rather than a ho-hum affair, random ASL references aside.
I found myself picking over throwaway lines, like Ethan having both warm and glaring eyes and Jenny's less than professional interview outfit (jacket is always required). Jenny is quick to describe Ethan as predatory. I didn't find evidence for that reference but guess that his warm yet glaring eyes must also give off a predatory vibe? That description intrigued me, but there is nothing dark, nor even secretive, in this story. Ethan resigns himself to not knowing his feelings about Jenny and chocking it up to, "there was just something about her." I like a sense of mystery too, but if the author doesn't know the character's feelings, how is the reader?
I admit that the alpha male is not a favorite of mine, but I love an office romance. Unfortunately, I didn't find quite what I was looking for in Bossed.
This book was really good. I loved Jenny and Ethan. The banter between the two from the very beginning was so good. Jenny was awesome. She was no nonsense with Ethan. I really loved that Ethan was more than just the prick persona he gave off at work. He was very real with Matt and eventually to Jenny. I like that he realized he had his hang-ups and found a way to get over them. I love how the author showed that bit of vulnerability to the hero. I think a lot of authors don’t want to do that with male characters but to me that made him more real. Jenny and Ethan both had things form their past that made them the way they are. The conflict in the story and resolution were very realistic to me too. I loved the relationship with the friends. Matt and Kelsey were great friends to Ethan and Jenny. Overall this was a really good book and I would definitely recommend it.
This book was such a great read which you just fell into from the first page. Like office romance books and this one delivered it in spades. Loved Jenny and her attitude and her never backing down which made her perfect for Ethan. Loved that it was also based around baseball. Highly recommend. Review left on Amazon.uk
I enjoyed this story! Sloane Howell has built a sexy and lighthearted office romance that moves along at a good pace, with endearing characters. Jenny Jackson and Ethan Mason have a lot in common, including some abandonment issues, their story was compelling and entertaining.
Jenny Jackson has applied for a staff accounting position at the sports agency owned by CEO extraordinaire, Ethan Mason. The job is well-paid, but she soon realizes that the boss is a condescending jerk. When Ethan makes her a job offer she can’t refuse, Jenny is faced with a dilemma, but finally accepts it to pay her father’s hospital bills. From the start, the attraction between them is intense and undeniable. But their interactions are a clash of strong personalities and they tend to often butt heads. Ethan is cocky, arrogant, mercurial and impatient. And yet, Jenny keeps him on his toes and enjoys it. He is drawn to her, and, it complicates things, obviously. He doesn’t want his employees to notice that he has a thing for Jenny, and refuses his emotions to guide his decisions. He feels vulnerable and hates it.
Jenny is defiant and feisty. I liked her from the start. I found that some of her reactions were excessive, though. The evolution of Ethan and Jenny’s relationship was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, with many fun moments and some angst. I enjoyed the banter, the flirtation and the realistic way their relationship progressed from cautious friendship to much deeper feelings. Their chemistry was off-the-charts hot.
Bossed was my first book by Sloane Howell, and it won’t be my last. The author has delivered a very sexy and emotional story, with lots of laughs along the way and a great cast of characters, including some fantastic supporting ones. This book is told in dual POV and can be read as a standalone.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley.
I wanted to like this one; the description really advertised a funny contemporary rom-com, but for me the pay-off just wasn't really there. The main issue I had was how unlikeable the two main characters are. They also were rather extreme; their over-the-top behavior toward each other often didn't feel very authentic to me.
Two stars.
*I received a review copy from the publisher/author via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.*
I highly suggest this book to everyone who likes to read about men who are filthy rich but with a good heart, who are still human and make honest mistakes. The characters almost feel like their real persons in the real world because of how they react and behave in certain situations.
"Everything about her was a bad idea."
A boss who likes to be in control, has a filthy mouth, and sexy from head to toe, inside out. And Jenny likes that about him.
"Distractions kill productivity, and she was the ultimate distraction - for me."
Ethan Mason built his company because of a shattered dream, and he made a promise to himself that a woman shall never get in the way of his business the way his mother ruined her father's business a long time ago.
As I was reading this book I always felt giddy and excited. I had the feels! Plus I cried with the ending, it tore me apart. I've never cried to a romance novel before, not even 50 shades of grey trilogy (though I've yet to read the 3rd book). But I cried with the book and I felt my heart hurt. It was kind of expected but I never thought it would affect me that much.
This was a very fun and interesting read. I couldn't put it down and I realized I read it in just 3 days (or nights to be specific because I read books that I like so much during night time). The fun characters, Ethan and Jenny's best friends make me wish I had best friends like them. I'm a sucker for businessmen in romantic stories and this was in the baseball business which I have less to zero knowledge about and so it was a great way to somehow expose myself a bit about their world.
Bossed is everything you look for in a Sloane Howell book and then some. It's fun, it's heartfelt, it's dramatic at times, it's sexy, and it has some feels.
Jenny and Ethan couldn't be more different. They also couldn't be anymore alike. From their snark and witty banter, to their similar upbringings it makes for two people who can relate to each other. Their attitudes, however, are completely different.
Jenny is fun, she's witty, she doesn't take anything from anyone. She's the type of girl that can hold her own in any situation.
Ethan is essentially a jerk. His bad attitude ensures no one in his company looks in his direction, let alone speak up against him. That is until Jenny comes in. The two clash like night and day, but doesn't that just make their inevitable coupling hotter?
After Ethan stops being dumb, his relationship with Jenny is sweet. The characters had me smiling and laughing with their banter.
As with the other books I've read by Sloane, Bossed had heart and it appealed to my more sensitive side. There was a scene that I knew was coming, but I was still hit hard by it. Even under all his humor Sloane Howell manages to pull at your heart strings.
Great storyline with well defined characters that pulled me right into their story from the very beginning and kept me there until the very end!
