Overall, probably 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because this one had a surprisingly spicier scene than I was expecting.
Skye is trying her best to be a good Catholic girl (and this book is chock-full of Catholic guild, so be warned) when she meets Gentry - a super hot country singer. The two embark on one last weekend of fun, but they both realise that that isn't enough. When they try to get back together, tragedy strikes (and like - wow - not expecting that), but can they get over themselves enough to get together?
Very sweet, which was way that spicy scene came out of nowhere, but definitely check content warnings if you can, because there's a lot.
Skye Martinez is trying to get rid of the wild streak that she has been known her life for having and show that she can responsibly take over the family business, Briscoe Ranch Resort. That’s after one last wild fling that she is sure will cure the wild hair she has always had. The country singing bad boy will take care of all her last minute needs!
Gentry Wells wants to revive his career and playing this wedding might help it. When taking a breather in the barn be runs into Skye, the two hit it off and end up spending the weekend together. Skye doesn’t want a relationship with anyone, but Gentry knows that he can talk her into the something that he knows is between them!!
I really liked this book in the series! It isn’t my first and I enjoy peeks into past characters. Great read!
Skye Martinez is done with her wild streak. She’s decided it’s time to settle down and prepare to take over the family business at Briscoe Ranch Resort. One night, when she can’t resist a wild ride, she runs into an attractive man and they have a weekend of fun. Meeting Skye has reignited Gentry’s creative side with his music. With her, he feels real again. Now he’s got to convince her that they belong with each other.
This wasn’t a bad story. It was pretty standard. The characters were well defined. I think my problem was more with Skye. I wasn’t 100% what was so wrong with her life before that made her determined to find a nice boy to marry. It was an ok read.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
I have not had a chance to read this book, Once I have gotten a chance to read it I will edit this review to reflect my thoughts and feeling on the book.
One Wild Night is another fantastic book by Melissa Cutler.
I liked, but didn't love this story. To me, something was missing. I liked the chemistry between Skye and Gentry, and enjoyed them helping a young couple in love. I didn't care for Skye's mother and found myself losing interest in parts of the story. JMO
I have read this series from the beginning, enjoying each book, but I have to say that this one is my favorite because of the depth of emotions that run throughout the story. Ms Cutler created the perfect storm in the love Gentry and Skye share...their connection was palpable with a chemistry that took my breath away. The moments of heartbreak were overshadowed by the heartwarming joy that Gentry and Skye brought to each other.
The descriptions of the first night time ride that the couple took was mesmerizing, created in such a way that it was so easy seeing it unfold in my mind's eye. I don't think I've ever been more captivated then during that first horseback ride they took together. I'm so happy with the ending of the story...it could not have been any more perfect then it was. Ms Cutler keeps me coming back for more of her stories...I just hope that this is not the end to a pretty touching series.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Love this funny emotional read. Skye has a plan for her life. Her mom has a plan and a spell for her future husband. Gentry is not husband material she's looking for. Gentry is taking a big step to secure their future together. Great story. Recommended read
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first from Melissa Cutler that I've read, and I am happy to say I wasn't disappointed. Skye Martinez is a typical hard working young professional who is tired of dating all the wrong men. With her mothers help, Skye comes up with her wish list for the perfect and ideal man to become her husband, and her mother conjures up a spell so that Skye meets the man of her dreams. One night at work, Skye meets a man who is everything she doesn't want on paper, but everything she longs for in a fling. Longing to get one last wild fling in before settling down with her perfect man she has yet to meet, she comes across Gentry one night and they go on a midnight horseback ride that ends up changing her life. The two hit it off and through a series of events they end up having a wild weekend fling that neither one can forget. Despite agreeing to a no-strings weekend, both Skye and Gentry can't keep their minds off each other.
The two main characters have a chemistry that is funny, sexy and engaging. Their relationship has some roller coaster events along the way, but that only brings them closer together. While they have a HEA, the journey engages the reader and gives the characters a realistic dimension that one can relate to. In the end, Skye realizes that everything she ever wanted in a man is not what will make her happy, and she learns to trust her gut and heart. I couldn't put this book down, and look forward to reading more from this author.
Jessica has managed her parents family owned business and has plans to take over soon. Along with that are plans to maybe find someone to settle down with. Unfortunately, she has been looking for the perfect love in all the wrong places. She’s even gone as far as accepting her mom’s help but to no avail. Frustrated, she’s given up the search but found herself taking a no-commitment adventure with a rockstar. The offer is too good; why in the world would she refuse? This rockstar is to die for and all he wants is to be with her. She doesn’t know it yet, but a true commitment is looming over her.
Gentry has lost his mojo and is doing all that he can to get it back. He’s taken all kinds of measures and nothing has worked until meeting a girl who has no idea who he was. Taken advantage of this opportunity, he spends time with her. He had no idea his feelings will go beyond expectations.
I loved this small-town/rockstar themed storyline. Cutler did a great job melding two different worlds into one without overtaking the other. I love that she kept Jessica grounded despite falling for a rockstar. Cutler also kept the scenes light and full of laugh-out-loud moments. I can honestly say that is consistent with all the books in this series. I’m hoping there is more to come.
This story of Sky and Gentry was not my favorite of the series. I didn't care for the characters quite as much as the previous books, but the storyline held my interest. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
This is #3 in the One and Only Texas series. I have read #1 (One Hot Summer) and #2.5 (If Santa were a Cowboy). I want to read #.5 (The Mistletoe Effect) and #2 (One More Taste).
This was another favorite of my for this year. Skye Martinez works for her family's business. They clean the rooms at the Briscoe Ranch Resort. She knows that it is settle down and get started on her future with a husband and a family of her own, but there is this good looking guy that she has her eyes on. One night then to her plan. That guy is Gentry Wells, a bad boy musician.
Skye has lived her life as a Catholic child of God with those beliefs always reminding of who she should be and who she should not be. She needs to find a good Catholic man with the same beliefs that she was raised with. Someone who is dependable and kind. I was raised a Catholic child by going to a private school from Kindergarten to 8th grade. I could relate to Skye though out the book.Granny June was so funny! Skye got her wild side from her grandmother!!
I am looking forward to reading more from this series and this author.

DNF at 35%. I own almost every book Ms. Cutler has written, but One Wild Night is the very first book of hers I've read, which I was very excited to start but unfortunately that excitement was not justified. I struggled with this book from the beginning and chalked it up to an unfamiliar author's writing style, but it was not. Skye's struggle between her two sides and Gentry's fight to find his musical identity could have made for a really great story, but it was not to be for me, for three reasons:
- Skye and Gentry came across too old and mature for the crises they were struggling with and my biggest pet peeve both in fiction and real life is people who are indecisive, so strike one.
- the chemistry between Skye and Gentry was almost non-existent
- that club scene felt forced and actually had me cringing with discomfort. Three strikes and all that.
I do believe that this was the wrong book at the wrong time and hope that I'll enjoy any other of her books that I read better than I did this one.
I really enjoyed seeing Gentry find his way. He's lost himself over the years as he's fallen into being the bad boy of country music, but it's just not him anymore (if it every really was all that much). While struggling to find himself in his music again he's roped into playing at a wedding where he meets Skye. And things just click ... in all sorts of ways!
Skye is also struggling between being the girl she thinks she should be and the freedom that her heart craves. It's not easy for her and a sexy man in boots is temptation she isn't looking for.
While I liked Skye OK and I understood where her conflicts came from, it really was Gentry that held me. And it definitely was entertaining seeing him convince Skye to walk on the wild side :) Oh, I should warn everyone that they do put the wild in One Wild Night so those who like their love stories a little tamer might want to skip this one. But if you are up for some spice then come join Skye and Gentry as they find themselves, each other, and a HEA that works for all their miscellaneous sides.
(While this is part of a series, it can easily stand on its own. It's my first full length book by Cutler and I had no problem keeping up.)
As I might have mentioned earlier, I've really read some great cowboy romances lately and I'm tickled to add Cutler to my list of favorite cowboy romantic writers which include Carolyn Brown and Linda Lael Miller.
I loved that Gentry was a country music star. I so love the TV series Nashville and he could have been a great character here. Though this is the third book in the series, it was a complete story on it's own. Can't wait to go back and read the earlier books in the series.
I loved how great Skye and Gentry were together and read this book till very, very late in the night.
Crikey. I tried to write the plot to this out for a friend last night and it struck me how bonkers this is. Really quite bonkers. And I've been back and checked the description on NetGalley and it's not really signposted there. I kind of enjoyed this in a WTF kind of way, but really, it's not my sort of thing. I'm not sure who this is aimed at - it's too steamy to be Christian romance, but there's a lot of religion and faith-based conflict in there. And also, bizarrely, magic spells.
I found the conflict between the Heroine's good catholic and wild child sides a little much to start with - but I was hoping that it would be resolved with her accepting who she is, and feeling more comfortable in her own skin, not with the Hero converting to Catholicism.
Also I found the pregnancy, motorbike crash stuff over done - and bordering on the preachy. It's never really said explicitly, but it does feel like the H&h are being punished for enjoying themselves, even though they weren't hurting anyone or doing anything wrong.
So, really, not the sort of messaging I want from romances, but it gets 2 stars for the sheer bonkersness.
While the excerpt that was shared on Twitter a few months ago grabbed me, the start of this book did not and after a few days of idly flipping through, I ended up DNF'ing. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't holding my attention and I'm trying so hard to stick to my new rule of letting books go if I'm struggling with them; I read for escape, for enjoyment, first and foremost.
This was fun to read, and I read it very quickly, but it didn't stick with me.
Reading a story written by author Mellissa Cutler, you are never disappointed in the story. Wonderful addition to the series and I cannot wait until the next one.
