One Wild Night by Melissa Cutler was an enjoyable story. It takes us back the Briscoe Ranch resort. The two main characters, Gentry and Skye worked well together, although they both have commitment and personal issues that they have to work through in order to get their happily ever after. The story has many humorous moments and the pace was steady. I enjoyed this story as it was a little differently written then the other books in this series.
Wow, there was a lot of story in Melissa Cutler's latest book in her Texas series. Country music, sexy characters and a romance as high as the stars takes two lonely people from messing up to meeting the right one. It only took a magic spell to make it happen...
Skye Martinez knew trouble when she met it, and unfortunately, she met it that night. When the handsome stranger she was crushing on turned out to be country music's wild bad boy Gentry Wells, it was like another case of Deja Vu. She'd already been there and had the t-shirt. Her disastrous marriage to circus performer Mike had ended with him cheating on her, her miscarrying their baby, and her returning home, hat in hand, to her parents. She knew better than to tangle with another traveling lothario, right?
Gentry Wells had lost his mojo along with his desire to be the hard-drinking, woman chasing hound he was portrayed to be in the press. He honestly believed, though, that he wasn't made for settling down until he met Skye. He was knocked out by the way she made him feel, but Skye was looking for a man to marry and have kids with.
As you can imagine, that didn't stop them from exploring their crazy chemistry. I loved this story about second chances and learning to accept yourself completely. Lots of surprising twists and turns but a rocking HEA. Read it!
3.5*
To start out I his series. I love how melissa Cutler has come up with some of the most hilarious scenarios that I have to wonder how her mind works. You are guaranteed a good laugh in everyone of these books.
In this book Skye Martinez is tired of the dead end duds she been dating and longs for the perfect man. At her wits end and against her better judgement she allowed mother to cast a love spell. Now they are, practically falling at her feet. Then in walks Gentry Wells country musics bad boy. Gentry is everything Skye is not looking for but everything she needs. Gentry and Skye spend a worlwind weekend and go their separate ways, if only they can stop thinking about each other. Skye has given Gentry his muse back and the idea of a different life then before. Gentry goes back for Skye but now he's got to convince her he's the man for her when he's seems to be the farthest from it.
This book is not my favorite of the series so far but I think Gentry is the hottest character of the series.

One Wild Night ⭐⭐⭐ written by Melissa Cutler
This was our third visit back to the endearing Briscoe Ranch Resort. Unfortunately, this book fell short. Returning to the same characters and surroundings may have been the reason.
Skye Martinez was conflicted about her life. She searched for excitement but remained steadfast in her family beliefs. Her mother was an overbearing, not cutting the apron strings parent. She had Skye on such a guilt trip Skye rebelled even more.
The serendipitous meeting between Skye and Gentry Wells, a famous country western singer unknown to Skye, who lived in the heart of country music, was a little too much.
I felt the author certainly and unnecessarily painted the One Wild Night a bit to graphically. The hot sex scene was more like a page from Dante's Inferno. I do believe she overdid it.
I certainly admire Ms Cutler and her writing but this book just did not do it for me.

Skye Martinez works at the Briscoe ranch along with her mother and she is not one to just sit back and let things go by. So when she gets the opportunity to help out a young couple elope with a cowboy she met in the barn she goes for it. Gentry Wells is a Country music star who needs to have a hit record but can’t seem to write a song. Now after a night of riding horses with Skye words are starting to come to him. Meeting in the barn the next night they find the couple who is supposed to be getting and Gentry instead takes them and Skye to Nashville so they can elope. After they get married Skye decides to spend one night with Gentry and she realizes that he is popular. Back at the Briscoe ranch it has been three weeks since her one night with Gentry and she is still trying to figure out why weird guys are attracted to her. Not hearing from him and not expecting to also she goes out on a few dates but they are no good. Gentry wrote five songs but now can’t write any more. He needs to see Skye, so on his motorcycle he goes to her and then tragic. They are in a crash both are hurt but alive and both need to tell the other how they feel. Gentry does something that surprises everyone and moves to her town he is planning on living there now and wanting to be close to her. Skye is confused about her feelings and her mother is not helping the situation at all. The two of them must work it out. The characters are good and other than a few places the story drags a little over all it was good.
For this NetGalley reviewer, this is one of those books where the synopsis came across better than the actual story line. Here's to hoping it was just me, but I just wasn't enjoying it enough to continue. I wish the author all the best and hope her established fan base love it. The southern drawl, cowboy singing handsome hero just didn't do it for me. His monotonic tone and robotic character had me thinking the heroine deserved someone more exciting.
(These comments are based on a NetGalley ARC received in exchange for an honest opinion. I will not be posting on retail sites, as maybe the author's writing style just isn't a good fit for me.)
A bit far fetched from the beginning when Skye's mother creates a spell to bring her the man of her dreams, only to meet a man who is exactly the opposite of what she wants. A midnight ride on horses tames her desire to live on the wild side with a gorgeous stranger.
While the rock star is not what she pictured she can't help fall for him. A lot of moments of awkwardness and miscommunication later and the rock star seems to reform.
One Wild Night is One and Only Texas Book 3 but can be read without any confusion as a stand-alone if one is new to this series by Melissa Cutler. Briscoe Ranch Resort has been the setting for the last two previous books in this series and there is much that happens here but part happens in Nashville, which makes sense since one of the characters is a country music singer. Still the best parts of the books are on the ranch/resort.
As for the characters, Skye and Gentry were not the perfect fit as Remedy and Micah or Emily and Knox. I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go ‘round. No matter how hard they worked at it, I just didn’t see these two as settled, mature adults. The writing was just as well done as ever, with colorful supporting characters keeping it interesting. However, something was just missing in this one for me. Not every story will be my favorite but it just might be someone else’s.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.
Cute but a little bit predictable. I still enjoyed it though.
This was great. I love this series and look forward to the next book. I posted a review on Goodreads.
2.5 stars -- I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.
This is going to be another review that's kind of choppy b/c it's based on bulletpoint notes. But basically the jist is that this was just not a book for me. I have read one other novella set in this world, and I enjoyed that one, but this one did not have that same magic (and no, it is not required to read other books in the series, this one can stand alone). I did not like the characters, I did not like the plot, and really, this book felt like a mediocre Harlequin.
The characters did not feel consistent AT ALL. I mean, I didn't like them that much either, but I really just didn't believe their growth. They both felt superficial and shallow, lacking the depth that really sucks me in.
I really did not appreciate the Catholic guilt in this book. I get that they really feel that guilt and families are like that, but Skye’s mother was not even remotely redeeming. It made it hard to understand why family was so important to Skye when you didn't see that... Well, a little. One good moment with Gloria, but for it to be so important to Skye, I expected to see it more. Her father was awesome too, but I just felt sorry for him. I REALLY needed the Mom to have more dimension so that I could understand why Skye felt so strongly about her family and the values she was raised with.
And the conflict Skye was under...I just didn't quite get it. I knew where the author was going in broad strokes, but I don't think it was effectively achieved. I guess I just didn't feel her inner struggle, or understand how it all played out inside her head.
I didn't get Gentry at all. Maybe if we got to know his past a bit more, I would have known what drove him to be who he was. It was like the author had these broad strokes ideas of who these characters were, but didn't take the time to flesh them out and make them believable.
And I did NOT feel the spark between them past the first night in the stables (that night was hot). In fact, the sex scene really didn't have much emotion, it felt like an erotica scene (which is fine, but not how this book is marketed). I want a connection between my lovers. *shrugs*
And finally, I know this was an ARC and not the final copy, but it was riddled with mistakes. Typos, wrong names, timeline inconsistencies...I sincerely hope that it had a major clean up before release. Usually ARCs only have a few typos left to clean up, this one felt like an earlier copy.
So yeah. It sounds really bad, but it was mostly just disappointing and meh for me. Like I didn't hate anything, I just wanted MORE from like EVERYTHING.
Get ready for the ride of your life...
A cowgirl at heart, Skye Martinez has a rebellious streak she's determined to shake. Especially since she's poised to take the reins of her family's business at Briscoe Ranch Resort. It's time for her to settle down and get serious about her future...right after one last night of fun with a handsome stranger she meets in the resort's stable. But when a midnight horseback ride turns into a red-hot weekend with one of country music's biggest stars, Skye's world is rocked beyond her wildest dreams...
Gentry Wells rode his bad boy image all the way to the top of the country music charts. But churning out hits has dried up his creativity, and he can't remember the last time his life was his own. Skye is a sexy distraction he can't resist, especially since she breathes new life into his music. They bring out the wild side in each other, which is great for Gentry's career—but a major threat to Skye's. Too bad he's fallen in love with her. With their hearts and futures on the line, can Gentry convince Skye to turn their joyride into a real chance to ride off into the sunset together?
Review:
This book surprised me about halfway through it. The first half was light, fun and sexy and then you get a little more than halfway and you get walloped with emotion tugging romance. Don't get me wrong I liked the whole book, it was just wham with the drama. At one point I was getting teary and I love a good romance that makes me invest so much in the characters that I cry for them. No, I am not giving away plot points or spoilers, so if you want to know what happens, read the book. I loved Skye and Gentry, they were perfect for each. Some of the other secondary characters had me laughing especially the granny's. Again, I picked up a book in the middle of the series, but this can totally be read as a stand alone in my opinion. This was my first time reading this Author and I really enjoyed this romance that took me through all kinds of emotions.

This book was just all over the place for me. I didn't particularly feel the chemistry between the two main characters and I didn't particularly like Sky or Gentry. I didn't dislike them but they aren't characters I'll remember. The biggest issue was that this book tried to do too much IMO. You had a character with a "Strong religious" belief at least we are told but then there is a very erotic, public, sex scene that just didn't fit the character. Then there was the love spell that apparently worked, Sky dealing with the loss of her baby in her first marriage, Gentry coming to grips with the changes in his career and what he wanted from life, his conversion to Catholicism and it was just overwhelming. Too much to make any of it believable.
A copy of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
This book ended up being a pleasant surprise. I’d been emailed about it by the publisher and was intrigued, despite it being part way through a series, and so I agreed. When it came to reading I was a blank slate, I had no expectations and didn’t know what kind of book this was going to be so was thrilled to get reading and actually be surprised by it. Now, just because the publisher emailed me about it no way affects my opinion. I expected a fun romance that may or may not be memorable and really I should have disliked it as I’m not always a fan of musician romances, and certainly not when they rich and successful, I can often end up rolling my eyes. And this book was kind of dramatic which does normally put me off. Yet, despite all these points against it I enjoyed reading this, so much so I had to stay up to finish.
You haven’t lived until you’ve read a romance which begins with a spell to get a man and then has a country singer wearing a pink banana hammock who sings songs like ‘Beer O’Clock’ and ‘Well Hung’. I mean, seriously? And the fact that Skye’s mother performs a spell to find her her perfect man at the beginning of the book should have meant I was rolling my eyes throughout reading yet I didn’t. In fact, this book sucked me in somehow. Maybe it was that I liked the character of Skye who seemed to be trying to be a good girl following her mother's wishes and settling down, taming her wild streak, yet she ended up having one wild night with Gentry helping a runaway couple and spending time in Nashville. After that wild night, they both vowed to not pursue a relationship as they each have other plans… life has plans for those two and that’s when the drama strikes.
I hate when books get dramatic, I want fun and some sense of reality when it comes to my reading (fake relationships not included) so when several things happen one after another to both bring this couple together and drive them apart… well, it should have put me off yet it didn’t.
I don’t know, in the end, this romance hooked me with the drama and absurdity because it was the right balance of that with touches of reality. I think it helped that I liked both the characters and wanted them to get together. Maybe it’s just that it was written right for me. I don’t know, but somehow this book worked for me whilst I can’t recommend it to anyone who doesn’t like drama, I can recommend it to folks looking for a book to surprise them.
Skye Martinez has reached a time in her life that she wants nothing more than to finally find the right man to settle down with and start a family. Skye’s mother thinks she can cast a spell that will help Skye attract the right man into her life, someone stable and local that is ready for marriage. After the spell is cast Skye finds herself being asked out constantly but still really not impressed with her options.
One night while working her job at the Briscoe Ranch Resort Skye meets a handsome stranger at the stable and the pair go for a midnight ride. Little did Skye know that this handsome bad boy is none other than the famous country music singer Gentry Wells. Gentry is the opposite of what Skye wants in a man but the attraction is there so what would one last wild night hurt?
One Wild Night is the third full length book in the One and Only Texas series, there are also a couple of shorter novellas in the series. The books all take place at the Briscoe Ranch Resort but as with most romance series it is not necessary to have read other books in the series to enjoy a single read. There are mentions of other previous characters though for those that have read the earlier books.
For myself this one had a bit of a contradictory edge to it that had me a bit back and forth on how to rate this one. Skye is close to her family who are very religious and she mentions several times throughout how she feels she’s punished for her actions but the entire story is based on her and her “wild night”. Now the night in question was pretty steamy and the setting is enjoyable along with having the famous country artist wanting more for himself so otherwise with this one I found the story enjoyable enough but I wish Skye hadn’t been so wishy washy about her religious beliefs.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
One Wild Night by Melissa Cutler was an emotional and heartfelt read.
The storyline kept me turning the pages and while I didn't enjoy this one as much as the other books in the One and Only Texas series I'm still happy to have read it.
Watching the relationship between Gentry and Skye unfold left me a little flat at times. I wasn't totally convinced these two were right for each other.
Makes me sad as this has been a very enjoyable series to date.
I'm a fan of Melissa Cutler writing, and while One Wild Night wasn't my fav book I still recommend this series as it's been very entertaining read.
*Thank you to the publisher St. Martin's Press via Netgalley for the advance copy.*
Review by Leah for Love Romance Books
I was given this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
4 Stars!
This is book three in Melissa Cutler's One and Only series and the first of them that I've read. Skye Martinez is a woman living a dual life: the upstanding Catholic, good-girl, and the wild, untamed girl whom hasn't found a rule that wasn't made to be broken. The two parts collide in this story of meeting the man who awakens the wild, when what she's looking for is tame. He couldn't be the man she's destined to be with, could he? Gentry Wells is a cowboy whose music career is stalled as he's beset by writer's block and happens to be in town for a wedding. Now that he's met a beautiful woman and enjoyed a moonlit ride, the creative juices start to flow. Has he found his muse?
This was an HEA and I loved how Ms. Cutler wrote an epilogue that gave a hint about what was in store for the main characters. Skye's mother and grandmothers were a hoot and definitely added some color to the story. This book was about love, loss, following your heart, friendship, and sticking to your guns when the situation calls for it.
Skye Martinez longed for the days of her early 20's where she was wild and carefree. Now approaching 30 she is trying to settle down, take over the family's cleaning business, find a good Catholic man to marry and start a family.
When Skye becomes overwhelmed at work at the Briscoe Ranch Resort, she decides she needs a break and wants to go for a horse ride in the dark the think. What she doesn't expect is to find a gorgeous, sexy man in the horse barn.
Gentry Wells is a big time country star who is staying at the ranch for his music producers daughter's wedding where he is to perform. Gentry's last album tanked and he has one last chance to make a great album. Wanting to escape from the crowds, Gentry heads to barn...a place he always feels at peace.
When Skye and Gentry first see each other it's fireworks! They are both attracted to each other. Skye loves his bad boy vibes and he loves that she doesn't know who he is. Skye convinces Gentry to go out for a late night horse ride and that's when the magic starts.
The next day when Skye and Gentry are stealing some moments together they find Natalie and her fiance, Toby all upset. It seems the couple didn't want this big production wedding that their parents forcing on them. Together with Skye and Gentry they hatch a plan for the couple to elope off to Nashville. Skye's having a great time being fun and carefree with Gentry, especially when he convinces her to come to Nashville with Natalie and Toby for one last fun and wild weekend before she has to be serious and settle down.
I just loved the wedding at the Dolly Parton chapel! Too funny! After the wedding, Gentry shows Skye a great time in Nashville. It was a blast all what they did. These two really were combustible! But, all good things must come to end and they both needed to get back to their real lives.
What neither of them expected was that they just couldn't get the other too far removed from their every thought. After some great soul searching, and even some craziness from her mom's love spell, these two finally find their way back to each other. Of course just when things are going great....BAM!...disaster strikes. It was a long road for these two to finally get to their happy ending but it was really worth the trip. I just adored these two characters. They both had a fun, wild side that needed to be found every now and then and then together they found the life that they both really wanted.
