Marj and Graeme"s story in My One True Highlander by Suzanne Enoch was inspiring with a passion that I loved! I highly recommend this romance story to any and all readers of the romance genre!

My One True Highlander is book two in the No Ordinary Hero series by Suzanne Enoch. In the first book the old Duke of Lattimer has passed away and the title has gone to a distant relative, Gabriel Forrester. Gabriel is a soldier not a member of the aristocracy. He doesn't’ know how to be a Duke. He collects his sister Marjorie and places her in the London house of the Dukedom. Gabriel sets off to straighten out the Scottish holding in the Highlands and meets his lady love while starting a highland feud.

At the beginning of book two, Lady Marjorie Forrester receives a letter from her brother announcing his wedding and saying he will see her in a few months. Marjorie and her brother have spent decades apart missing holidays and birthdays. She refuses to miss his wedding so she makes an unannounced trip to Scotland unaware of the feud. Once she reaches Clan Maxwell, she is abducted by two teenagers and their younger brother. The Duke of Dunncreigh had sent word out that anyone who can help him in the feud with the Duke of Lattimer would earn great rewards. The part of clan Maxwell Marjorie is traveling through has been on the outs with the Dunncreigh for sometime and they are in desperate need of funds. The three boys take Marjorie back to they older brother Graham thinking they have the solution to their family’s problem. Graham is not happy but vows he will protect Marjorie and not had her over. This puts Graham on the outs with his own clan. Is there a solution that can save Marjorie and Graham?

Suzanne Enoch has created a wonderful series that is full of action and adventure. You feel like to are there in the Lion’s Den with Marjorie and the craziness of a house full of boys. Highly recommend this series to lovers of historical romance and Outlander.

I'm a huge fan of Suzanne Enoch's historicals ever since I read her "London's Perfect Scoundrel". This book is the story of the Duke's (previous book) sister. I felt like I travelled to the Scottish Highlands & it is a enjoyable read!!!

I got a chance to check out My One True Highlander by Suzanne Enoch earlier this month. I do not recommend reading No Ordinary Hero backwards. I would recommend you go in order. Somethings would make more sense if you read them in the proper order. Just a suggestion.

In this story, we meet Marjorie Forrester who happens to be the sister of the Duke of Lattimer. When she gets the letter from her brother saying he's going to marry, but she shouldn't come up there. After all, winters are pretty harsh. Everything starts to fall apart when she heads up north.

We also meet Graeme Maxton, who is a Viscount and a chieftain. He's trying to stay a float when the Duke of Dunncraigh makes an offer, but in return he must kill the Duke of Lattimer. However, Graeme doesn't like the offer, and doesn't trust the Dunncraigh. His brothers happen over heard things and decided to take things their hands, and they kidnap Marjorie.

This story has some lulling points, but it was a good read. The nightlight of the story was Connell, Graeme's little brother. He's so adorable and has a soft heart. He kind of stole to story, which is fine. Marjorie is kept captive until they figure out what to do. Of course they fall in love, but I think that was a giving. Overall, not a bad read.I guess I need to read the first book, since I have read these totally backwards.

This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine, Graeme and Marjorie. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.

I actually liked this book though it was a slow read. In general I like Highlander novels but this did not really suck me into the storyline. It was nice but nothing more.

Rugged highlander Graeme has one thing on his mind—take a stand against the horrible Englishman Lattimer and he will be rewarded with enough money to be set for life. But when his reckless younger brothers take it one step too far and kidnaps a young woman on her way to see Lattimer, Graeme has to intervene. Unfortunately, trying to protect his brother keeps leading to more and more trouble.
This was a very cute story. There were times when I wanted to yell at Graeme for his assumptions about Marjorie, but I felt a little silly when I was yelling at my tablet and it didn’t change his misconceptions:) The side characters were so engrained into the story that they were just as interesting to follow. I can’t wait to read another book by Suzanne Enoch! I really loved it and highly recommend it.

I enjoyed this book. While it is the second in a series, you do not need to read the previous book. It was such a fun quick read. I enjoyed reading about the younger brothers, they were a funny sibling addition.

I loved this book - I think even more than I loved the first book!

Graeme is a chieftain of the Maxwell clan and his property borders Lattimer's (Hero in the Highlands). Graeme is not happy with his overlord, but needs the protection of the Duke for his small holding. When Graeme's younger brothers kidnap Lattimer's sister Marjorie - he is torn. He can't afford to let her go to her brother but neither can he turn her over to the Duke. There is also the small matter of what will happen if the Duke finds out who she is and that Graeme didn't turn her over to him. What's a Laird to do? Why marry the lass! Easier said than done!!

Marjorie aka Ree is Lattimer's younger sister. After Lattimer inherited the dukedom and gave her the London townhouse, she has been desperately trying to fit in with the ton and failing. When her brother writes that he is going to marry, Ree impulsively decides to attend his wedding. She sets off for Scotland with her very proper companion and is promptly kidnapped by highland barbarians!

When Graeme says that he will marry her - Ree is horrified and refuses.

Both Graeme and Ree have preconceived notions about the other and slowly begin to realize that those notions are wrong. And they begin to fall in love.

I highly recommend this book, the story is well written, flows nicely, has wonderful secondary characters, some laugh out loud moments, some steamy moments, some nail biting moments and finally a fantastic HEA.

This is the second book in the series, but it could easily be read as a stand alone title.

I don’t know why I was expecting more from this book. It starts off with a lot of promise but somehow left me feeling like I missed something important only to find it just wasn’t there. So I’m slightly disappointed in the end.

This is the second tale in No Ordinary Hero series and I was truly looking forward to reading it because it of the heroine who was the sister of the Duke from the first book. I must admit that the premise was what gave me hope that this one might be as good as the first. Plus, this story had even more in common with Outlander book series. And while the romance in Outlander outshone any plot, subplot or setting, for some reason I found the romance in this story lacking in chemistry between the leads.

That said, even though the setting is what kept my interest (because I am a sucker for men in kilts), it is some of the more unique secondary characters who provided some excitement and added plenty of fun to the story.

In the end, I do recommend it because it’s fun and entertaining. Oh, and MEN IN KILTS!

Another adventure through the Scottish highlands…what could be a better way to spend the day? I picked up this series on a whim, mostly because I found I enjoyed the previous series by Ms. Enoch and the covers of this series were too sexy to resist. This story picks up almost immediately where the previous novel left off, with the newest Duke of Lattimer letting his darling sister know that he intends to marry the woman that has stolen his heart. Marjorie has missed out on almost all of the important milestones in her life and her brother’s and she is determined to be there for his wedding, despite it being held in the wild of the Scottish highlands and her being stuck trying to make herself respectable to her new neighbors in the London social scene. Despite the half-cocked plan to make the trip to her brother’s estate, surprising him by not sending word ahead, Marjorie is only a short distance away when disaster strikes in form of a man that is truly irresistible despite him being a Highlander and entirely inappropriate. Graeme is lamenting his limited ability to keep his small corner of the world safe from the bastards putting pressure on him, when his idiot brothers make everything that much worse, presenting their idea of their savior in the person of the kidnapped Marjorie. Soon the two of them are pulled closer and closer together, winding their way into one another’s life and ultimately their hearts, until there truly is no separating them, but can there be a happy ending for two people so hugely wrong for one another?
My One True Highlander was an intriguing story with so many little twists and turns that if you tried to skip ahead a chapter I could guarantee you would be completely confused. Marjorie and Graeme are arguing with each other one moment and the next locked in a passionate embrace, showing the truly tempestuous nature of both of these strong-willed and hardheaded individuals. Graeme was the kind of brother we all hope to have as we grow up, a man that will give his all to make our lives better and to make sure that we find our happiness. He is also a great leader among men, worrying every day what he can and should do to make the lives he holds in his hands easier and flourishing, not just figuring out what his people can do to make him richer or his life easier as so many leaders of that time did. Marjorie is a strong willed Scottish lass even if she never realized it until she meets Graeme and his people; she knows her own mind and will use whatever means she deems necessary to make sure that all is right in the world. She worries just as much for those she loves, and when Graeme and his people are counted among those numbers, her life become just that much more complicated. The heat generated between these two is definitely enough to fuel a long winter night in the Scottish Highlands and I have no doubt that for a long time to come Graeme and his Marjorie will be passionate and loving. Also I will say I loved the little side romance we got in this story and was seriously surprised when it came to fruition, but that’s the only hint you get! I am looking forward to seeing whose story comes next and finding out what kind of trouble Ms. Enoch gets her characters into, but whatever happens I know without a doubt that the men and women of her Highland Clans will be amazing to get to know.

I enjoyed My One True Highlander tremendously. This book was so much fun to read. I've come to love Scottish stories. I started rooting got Marjorie and Graeme from the beginning of this story. Their backstories were just so hard, and I hoped for happiness for the both of them. Enoch has a beautifully written story with this one.

This is an excellent followup to Hero in the Highlands, featuring Lady Marjorie Ree), Gabriel's sister. After receiving a letter from Gabriel informing her of his impending wedding; Ree decides to go to Scotland. Unfortunately, close to her destination, she is kidnapped by some well meaning young brothers. Although part of the Maxwell clan, Graeme, Viscount Maxton is at odds with the Duke of Dunncraigh (yes the same villain from the previous book). His misguided younger brothers think they can gain favor with the duke by giving Ree to him. Then the fireworks between Graeme and his brothers, between Ree and Graeme, and between the Maxtons and the Duke's lackey. The storyline is fast paced, full of conflict and danger. Suzanne Enoch does a great job developing her characters, you can't help, but love them. The youngest brother, eight her old Connell is especially delightful, accounting for many humorous moments. All in all, a splendid read.

It was nice to see a couple of characters that grew up struggling end up having it all. Gabriel wasn't expecting anything, but then something fell in his hands. This changes not only his life but his sisters. So it was nice to see both of them finding the love that they both need, want and deserve. Gabriel gets feisty Fiona while Marjorie gets Graeme who is so loving, caring and protective. There is something happening in those highlands and I can't wait to find out more.

I read one book and enjoyed so much, I highly anticipated book 2. My One True Highlander can be read alone and was just as delightful as the first. Despite the unorthodox way they met each other Graeme and Marjorie's relationship developed wonderfully. The pacing was a bit slow in the beginning. However, the simmer made it even more worthwhile when things started to heat up between them. Graeme's brother Connell was a delight, and he made the overall story even richer. All secondary characters made the story more rounded and only added to the richness of the plot.

If you read Suzanne Enoch's " Hero in the Highlands" and wondered what happened to Gabriel's younger sister Marjorie, than this book is about to answer your question. To say that this book is entertaining would surely be a huge understatement. No, this book is not only entertaining it is funny, exciting, sensual and highly addictive. So if you intend to read this book be sure to set aside a whole day. Because once you delve into this story, you won't be able to put this it down!

Lady Marjorie Forrester is the only relation of the newly titled Duke of Lattimer, Major Gabriel Forrester. Marjorie never expected to be a part of the aristocracy. In fact, up until a couple of months ago, she was a paid companion. Now she lives in a grand house in Mayfair, being able to buy anything she desires. From the outside it seems like she is living the perfect life. In reality her life is far from perfect. It seems that even though she may now be titled, the ton won't except her. She receives no invitations and is ignored everywhere she goes. She hires a companion Mrs. Giswell. To help her navigate the ton, but it seems that no matter what she does, she will never be able to fit it. So when she receives a letter from her older brother telling her that he is soon to be married in Scotland, she decides to make a surprise visit to Scotland. She has no idea what to expect of the highlands and what she finds there is definitely beyond her wildest dreams.

Graeme Maxton is a Scottish viscount who has no money, is at odds with the chief of his clan and has assumed the responsibility of his three young brothers since he was twenty years old. So the last thing that he needs is a hostage. A very alluring, headstrong and english lady. So when his three brothers bring home the sister of the Duke of Lattimer, hoping that Graeme will be able to use her as leverage against the chief of his clan, he has no idea what to do, but the last thing he wants is for his brothers to get into trouble. So he assumes responsibility for the deed. Now he has to find a way to solve this problem without anyone getting hurt or imprisoned. The last thing that he expected was to fall in love with the stubborn sassenach.

This book is filled with some truly amazing characters. I absolutely loved Graeme! Yes, he is everything that you would expect a dashing highlander to be, but he is also so much more. He is as sensitive as he is strong and the way he treats his three brothers is truly heartwarming. The three younger brothers:Brendan, Dughlas and Connell are also wonderfully written. I absolutely loved Connell. As for our heroine, she may be headstrong and sassy, but she is also very vulnerable and fragile and you can't help but cheer her on every step of the way. I also have to mention Marjorie's companion Mrs. Giswell. I have read many regency romances and as any fan will know lady's companions aren't the most lovable or even likable characters. However, Enoch has made Hortensia Giswell into a character that you can't help but like. Yes, she is strict and set in her ways, but she is also fun and entertaining.

There is truly no one who writes Highland romances like Suzanne Enoch. She is the Queen of Scots as far as romance is concerned! Absolutely loved this book!

The Skinny

No one is more surprised than Marjorie Forrester when her older brother Gabriel, a soldier in the Royal military, is bequeathed a dukedom. Suddenly their whole lives change. Marjorie moves from the life of a servicewoman to the life of a lady in the London ton. Despite her new stature, she is not readily accepted - and if truth be told, not to be accepted at all. The Quotes

Marjorie didn't feel at all triumphant or vindicated, though. She made a show of gathering the sheets around her and standing, anything to avoid his gaze. It didn't matter a whit if she'd hurt his feelings; she wasn't the villain of this piece. But it felt like it mattered, liked she'd...cheated or something.



He simply wanted her, and that had nothing to do with what an alliance with her could do for his corner of clan Maxwell. He wanted to know that a lovely duke's sister desired a near destitute Scottish clan chieftain who mended fences and sheared sheep and delivered calves with his own two damned hands.



The Highs and Lows

Pacing. It took a long while for me to become invested in the storyline due to the pacing and some confusion about who was who and relationships in the very beginning with all the clan business. I had to go back and restart this book. For the first quarter or so of the book, it was slow going and I wanted to set it aside, but quickly picked up once Marjorie is kidnapped.

Marjorie's Struggles. Marjorie has been elevated from the capacity of a servicewoman all of a sudden into not only the nobility but the cream of the crop of nobility. Now she's the sister of a duke. However, her sudden change and elevation in stature do not open doors to the gentry or the London ton. No matter how hard Marjorie tries to be kind and make friends, it is made very clear to hear that she is not wanted. Short of buying friends, Marjorie won't be accepted in London society. She is miserable, downtrodden, and depressed. Which is why when she learns of her brother's sudden impending marriage, she immediately makes arrangements to travel to the Highlands.

High Stakes Hierarchy. The contention among the Maxton clan is increasing. Tempers are high and time is short. As chieftan, Graeme has more responsibilities on his plate than just his brothers. Graeme is trying to do the upright and honorable thing in two aspects: not killing Lattimer, but also supporting and providing safety for the families residing on his land. By not killing Lattimer, Graeme risks his people starving - and the angry, terroristic wrath of the Maxwell and have a lot more issues to handle and overcome. Or he could be generously rewarded if Lattimer meets an untimely death. The root of The Maxwell's anger is over the English Gabriel Forrester becoming the Duke of Lattimer and now possessing the clan's ancestral land. The Maxwell had high hopes of retaining Lattimer's tenants and also receiving tithes from them for providing protection. It is a significant loss of loyalty and money when Gabriel inherits the duchy.

Graeme. He is loyal to a fault and works hard to support his family. He has been the sole caretaker for his brothers since Connell was two days old. For a young man who should have just been going out to start his life, it was unfortunate timing. And unfortunate circumstances followed. Soon he became the Viscount and was responsible for more than just caring, educating and raising three young boys; he now had near a hundred cotters to provide for and protect, as well as the Garaidh nan Leomhann land known as the Lion's Den.

The Plan. Graeme's brothers overhear the Maxwell and Sir Hamish's threats, the boys take matters into their own hands. After going into town, they discover the Duke of Lattimer's sister is traveling. They hatch a plan using Connell to lure her to kidnap her. If Brendan cannot kill the Duke of Lattimer as Graeme specifically outlined, they can hand her off to the Maxwell to use in bringing the Sassenach Lattimer to his knees. They'll save the day and save the clan! There are just a few problems with their plan, which Graeme points out after they've brought Marjorie to their home: she knows their names and the Maxwell could make Graeme ransom Marjorie to her brother, causing either a prison or death sentence for Graeme. Not to mention the fact that Marjorie - an innocent in all of this - would be ruined. Who would marry a woman who had been kidnapped and held hostage in a male-dominated Highlander home? She would be forever ruined and never accepted in Society again. No matter what, Marjorie's trail would lead back to them and the ramifications could be costly.

Graeme's Idea. As Marjorie points out to Graeme, he has to do something with her. When she dares ask his grand plan, Graeme has been debating with himself over his idea. His plan is simple and it resolves all of the possible ramifications of her kidnapping. He is terrified Marjorie will come to a fatal end in the care of the Maxwell, and he is worried he will meet the same fate at the hands of Lattimer in the vendetta. Graeme is the only person to have interactions with Marjorie, who he locks in a bedroom with boarded windows. After an attempt to call attention to her captivity, Graeme shackles her to the bed. It is during all of their brief and biting meetings that Marjorie discovers a sense of consideration and tenderness from Graeme. It is through their interactions that each begins to feel a measure of compassion - and guilt. Their relationship starts to bloom. When an unfortunate meeting with Raibeart and Sir Hamish occur following Marjorie's escape, she pretends to be Marjorie Giswell, there to tutor Connell. While a quick cover - someone is not believing it.

Connell. At only eight years old, he is indeed a little duckling. I found the endearment cute and fitting. Connell is a curious little kid with a big heart. He is characterized by taking in stray animals, especially orphaned animals because he is also an orphan. The more the merrier. He even tries to hide some from Graeme in his room, and Graeme pretends like he doesn't know the little zoo exists. His character brought charm and innocence to the story and helped soften some of big brother's hard edges. He also becomes allies, friends rather, with Marjorie in secret.

Marjorie's Growth. Throughout her stay in Graeme's household, Marjorie slowly undergoes a transformation. Everything she found harsh and unrefined about her Highland captors she begins to see in a new light. Her journey of self-discovery and realization of her true wants in life were made possible with Graeme's help. She maintained she wanted to return to London where no one wanted her - and where no one knew even knew she had disappeared. Graeme tries to make his case for his solution by showing that she's cared for in the Highlands. While it may not be everything she'd dreamed of and what she envisioned for her life, there was happiness in the Highlands.


What set this Highland story apart was the depth and complexity of the plot. The concept of captive falling for captor is nothing new, but the way in which the Graeme and the boys are characterized and treat Marjorie during her stay in the Lion's Den made this "prisoner of war" story so sweet and lent authenticity to the Highland home and setting. I found Graeme to be an interesting mix of a man, so rough and rugged on the exterior but very logical, loyal, compassionate and kind. Not all qualities one would associate with a Scottish Highlander, so it made his roaring and gentle character that much more delightful. Connell's sweetness and innocence and Brendan's flaring temper only add to the element of fear and danger over the current situation between Lattimer and the Maxwell. I enjoyed this well-crafted story and look forward to future books from Enoch.

Graeme and Marjorie meet under entirely unlikely circumstances. His brothers kidnap her, bring her home, and expect Graeme to turn her over to the clan chief for reward. From the first nothing goes as planned. This was a fun read with characters I enjoyed. I enjoyed it enough that I picked up the rest of the series to see what I missed. The rest were equally as fun!
