Kidnapping, romance, misunderstandings, hilarious chaos... This story has it all. I loved Ree and Graeme. Together they are magical. The author writes in such a way as to make you feel part of the story; one of the characters. I was entranced from the beginning. Only bad part? It ended too soon.

Suzanne Enoch books are always fun. She creates rich characters in fun settings with interesting plots. This story imeets the same high standards of her other highland romances.

I really liked this book. It was funny and very romantic. I loved the dynamics of all of the characters and the suspense of waiting and wondering if everything will be revealed...when it will be revealed.. and just what will happen once it is revealed.

Very good job Suzanne Enoch

Book two in the No Ordinary Hero series by Suzanne Enoch, My One True Highlander has a serious undertone to the cliched almost comical storyline. Kidnapped English Lady and the rugged Scottish Laird, what makes this more serious than other stories is the situation behind it. Laird Graeme wants to be loyal to the clan his family swore fidelity to but the chieftain of the clan just wants to make war with the Englishman who inherited the land and refused to sell it. Graeme just wants to live in peace and have his family and his tenants happy and healthy but with the increasing tax and the threat to be thrown out of the clan looming over his head Graeme is just trying to survive. Graeme is the guardian to younger brothers and when they get the idea that kidnapping the Englishman's sister and giving her to the chieftain and be given a reward for her and Graeme is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He knows giving over the English woman won't solve anything and will endanger her life, but if her brother finds out his life is pretty much forfeited because he will cover for his brothers stupid mistake. He is even more confused by his feelings for the English miss.

Marjorie is tired of being on the sidelines, she went from a ladies companion to a Duke's sister in the matter of seconds and he newfound status didn't win her any friends she in fact lost the few she did have. When Marjorie get a letter from her brother stating he's getting married and will send for her sometime in the spring she makes the decision to leave now. The large age difference between them kept them apart for most of their lives and Marjorie is determined not to miss another major event in his life. Together with the companion she hired to see her into society she travels up to Scotland without incident until they almost get they get within a day's journey of her brothers new estate. Marjorie gets kidnapped. Misconceptions and presumptions between Graeme and Marjorie lead to the initial dislike between them. Marjorie thinking they are a bunch of barbarians and Graeme thinking she is a spoiled London Miss. But over time they learn the truths about each other, especially after Marjorie covers for Graeme and his brother by posing as a tutor for the youngest brother. At that point she stops being a prisoner and becomes a willing guest and Graeme lets her write a note to her brother telling him she's okay. The letter however is intercepted by Sir Hamish Paulk, who is not a nice man and wants to bring about the doom of Marjorie's brother.

Despite the seriousness of the story there is a very cheesy romance feel to the book the Marjorie and Graeme romance, once they get over the whole English Scottish kidnapping thing falls into place fairly easy, but by then Marjorie gets kidnapped again. Overall, it was a good read, I enjoyed it. It's read fine as a stand alone so you don't have to worry about reading book one to understand what's going on.

Heat Setting:Mild

Overall Setting: 5 Stars/5 Kilts

Scotland, 1812

The brawny, strapping, honorable highlander, Laird Graeme Maxton of clan Maxwell, can't wait to put his neighbor the villainous, Sassenach, Duke Lattimer, in his place! Plus the fact it will reward him with enough money~he will never have to worry about his ot the clan’s finances ever again! ! Then his impulsive brother goes and blows it - he actually abducts Lattimer’s gorgeous sister, Lady Marjorie Forrester, whom basically ends up in his lap!

The only honorable thing he can do is marry this beautiful lass or have a bloody clan war! Graeme feels she is just too beautiful to be ruined, yet ruined she will be if word gets out. Plus the fact if caught his brother’s would go to prison! Plus even Lady Marjorie’s life is in jeopardy! No, not by him or his young brothers, of course not, yet the clan chief could order her execution to avoid a clan war! In addition his clan would be in all sorts of trouble if he sent her back. They could take everything away from them, their lands, home, even order the clan in exile So no going back for Lady Marjorie, it is just not going to happen.

What they don't realize is this new Duke was previously orphaned and took a commission so he could support his sister. As Marjorie wanted more than anything to be accepted by the ton. Yet they keep snubbing her and giving her the cut direct! As they would always see her as a penniless orphan or lady’s companion. Even though she went to the best boarding and finishing schools and was every bit the lady. Even her former friends won't have anything to do with her new life, Marjorie is very lonely and her brother the new Duke Lattimer, is so far away in the Highlands. So when she hears Gabriel, her brother is getting married, it is the perfect opportunity for her! To meet his fiancé Fiona and visit her only family her dearest brother, Gabriel!

Marjorie knows she should be scared out of her wits being abducted in the highlands by highland scoundrels. Yet how can she be when she meets the most gorgeous braw highlander! As it happens to be the leader The Viscount, Laird Graeme Maxton. Yet she knows she can't stay here forever but he seems to have other plans as he can't seem to keep his hands to himself. With a heavy heart, Marjorie knows it was time to leave. Will Graeme allow it or even want it? As he has so many burdens on his strong shoulders, saving his clan, avoiding a clan war and avoid turning Marjorie over to the clan chief! She could be slaughtered so that isn't even an option and his young brothers would go to prison! Yet at the moment his biggest concern, was saving his heart!

As in all star crossed romances, it was his heart and honor that was in danger, also in jeopardy of being broken. Marjorie’s coat was also not made of chain mail, as they both have fallen deeply in love. How does it resolve you will have to read this magnificent book to find out.

This is the second book in the No Ordinary Hero Series by Suzanne Enoch. As usual this talented author will blow you away and pull your heartstrings and melt your soul. Terrific dialogue, amazing character development, breathtaking settings, plots that make your heart melt and pulse race.

The secondary characters like Marjorie's Mrs. Giswell, the duckling-Connell, Brendan and Dùghlas were all phenomenal and made me laugh a lot!

Another fast paced page turner with all the elements historical romance readers love. This book is filled with abduction, conflict, suspense mystery, devilish impish children and animals that you just can't help but love! In addition a highlander hottie and beautiful damsel that could cause some heat. Plus in addition falling madly in love who will win this love on the battlefield? Will they stay together or part their separate ways? You will have to read it and find out.

This book follows book #1 Hero in The Highlands perfectly. It is about Marjorie’s brother Gabriel and his now Scottish fiancé Fiona. It was the perfect set-up for this book so yes I highly recommend you start at the beginning. I think you will learn more of the siblings struggles from book #1 and how they landed titled and wealthy from penniless orphans. You can also read as stand alone books, readers choice.

LOVED this story!! Between the bantering that Graeme and Marjorie engaged in to the antics of Graeme's brothers, I was highly entertained from beginning to end!

I loved that Marjorie was not your typical Englishwoman out of her element in the Highlands of Scotland. Having not grown up with money, she was not the pampered miss that Graeme was expecting when he learned her identity. Graeme was also not your typical lord since there was not enough money in the coffers for him to do anything but to help out with the estate work himself.

This is definitely a story that you need to pick up and read!!

Rated 3.5!

Lady Marjorie Forrester has journeyed to Scotland to visit her brother. She wants to surprise him before his impending marriage. Things are not going as expected and they just keep getting worse. After stopping at an inn for a rest, Marjorie "Ree" finds herself being kidnapped. From the moment, Ree meets her captor Graeme, she finds herself enthralled. She wants to hate the arrogant man, but for some reason it is just so hard.

Graeme is beyond angry when his younger siblings reveal that they have kidnapped Lady Ree Forrester. Now, he is in a very tight spot. With Ree being the sister of the enemy of his clan chief, Graeme has only one real option unless he wants to be considered a traitor... marry her. Graeme tries his best to persuade Ree, but until he releases her from her shackles and allows her some freedom, Graeme knows he will not see results. Can he put his trust in the supposed enemy?

MY ONE TRUE HIGHLANDER is tons of fun. Ree and Graeme are such a realistic couple. We should all strive to have the passion these two for each other in our own relationships! Ree and strong-willed, but so is Graeme. Although they start out at cross purposes, they soon see eye to eye on most matters. If only they won't so pig-headed in discovering how much they care for one another. Much could have been resolved so much faster, but where would the fun have been in that! I look forward to reading Ms. Enoch's next installment in her NO ORDINARY HERO series.

I really enjoyed this historical romance that tells the story of a girl who decides to visit her brother and is kidnapped before she can get to him. Marjorie has led a solitary existence as an orphan whose military brother has done his best to provide enough income so that she had a place to stay. When he suddenly becomes a duke, her world is completely changed. When Marjorie finds out that her brother, is getting married, she decides to journey to Scotland for the wedding. She doesn't let him in on her plans, so when two young hooligans kindap her, no one knows that anything is awry.

Graeme is horrified that his young brothers have kidnapped an Englishwoman, but soon decides to work it into his plans to stand against the despised Lattimer. Soon, he is falling for this girl. They have obstacles to overcome before they can have a relationship.

What can I say; this is an amusing full of heat captivating read much like book one to this series. Author Suzanne Enoch really knows how to write a book that knocks ones socks off.

In this second book to the No Ordinary Hero series I feel in love with both the hero, Graeme and the heroine, Marjorie as well as Connell, Graeme's youngest brother.

Graeme is just a messy character but of course this is to be understood since he is a laird and raising his three wild brothers. The reader will thoroughly enjoy his interactions with his brothers and their shenanigans.

Marjorie warms my heart with her trying so hard to be accepted in proper society and it is heart wrenching to read through the pages of what happens to her and her reactions. Despite everything she is not a woman to give up thus she gives Graeme a mighty battle. I love when a man falls like a tree for a feisty woman. The reader will enjoy reading the interaction between these two.

The brothers who would be considered secondary characters are in my opinion right up there with Graeme and Marjorie for interest and had me laughing many times as well as feeling pain for what they were going through since their parents' death.

Because this deals with real life situations and finding love one deserves I give it 5 STARS

3,5/5

For my first novel by Suzanne Enoch, without surprise I picked up the second volume in a series. Fortunately for me it can be read alone without trouble. Here we meet Marjorie, who decided to join her brother in Scotland without informing him first, just before she’s kidnapped by three young boys eager to help out their big brother and their clan. The first volume was about Marjorie’s brother.

Marjorie is a heroine after my own heart: she’s set a goal in her life and does everything to get closer to it, she’s not easily impressionable, and during hard times she’s looking for solutions instead of letting events carry her along. She stands up to the hero from the start and their confrontations are biting and often fun.
The hero as for him is likeable, and he had quite a hard life, becoming chief of his clan and the only parent of his little brothers when he was himself quite young. He doesn’t know how he’ll manage to provide for them. I like a lot his loyalty toward them, and that he feels tugged between what’s best for his brothers and what’s best for Marjorie.
Their attraction is quite fast, and if they cause sparks to fly I also thought they yielded too quickly to their desire. For the period that seems a behavior a bit superficial from Marjorie. What’s more when the first love scene happens they don’t even trust each other yet and argue a lot, and I must say I was surprised and not really convinced.

As for the secondary characters I loved Graeme’s younger brother, a nice boy who make up for his lack of maternal love by bringing home all the wounded or abandoned animals he can find, turning the familial house into a real menagerie. I thought the author succeeded in creating a real familial dynamic between these brothers, which emphasizes even more the heroine’s loneliness. Marjorie’s companion is also well portrayed and brings her own perspective on the couple.

As for the negative points there’s first the veeeeery strong accent of the Scots, which wasn’t very easy to read at first. There’re also illogic details, like the fact they don’t dare sending an envoy at Marjorie’s brother because one of Graeme’s enemies is staying at his uncle’s. Except that the uncle doesn’t live next door and it’s unlikely the envoy would have been spotted on his way. There’s also the ending I felt was rushed and not very believable.

But in the end in spite of its little flaws it’s a story that’s really cute and fun and I had a good reading time with it.

I enjoyed this fun, fresh, and funny romantic escape. Except for the villains of course, I liked all the characters, including the rescued animals. Graeme was a real, hunky sweetheart, his brothers once you got to know them were endearing, and Marjorie was an independent, kindhearted heroine. The things I didn't like were the parts told from secondary characters' viewpoints, especially because the villains were rather one-dimensional and not very interesting. All in all though, this was definitely a good read, mostly lighthearted, and I liked that the sex scenes didn't go on for pages and pages, but were just right.

I found this book quite dull.
I liked the beginning but it quickly lost my attention after Marjorie got kidnapped.
Something about the story line of Marjorie falling in love with her kidnapper just didn't sit right with me. They fall in love while he keeps her locked up!
I enjoyed the characters and the story held good promise but my main complaint is that the same thing seemed to happen over and over again. The same conversations between Graeme and Marjorie, the repeated scenes of sexual tension. It became a very repetitive and boring read.
The end, by the time I got to it was anticlimactic and a let down.

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The "Highlander" type romance is one of my favorites and I have read several of this authors books and this one was no disappointment. I really loved this story!

Lady Marjorie, while traveling to her brothers home, is kidnapped. Her brother, an Englishman, has land and a Scottish wife in a time when England is never trusted. His land happens to share a border with Graeme, even though they have never met.

Even though Graeme has his land and tenants, his is basically poor. He is no Laird sitting around being waited on. Graeme's liege lord would love nothing better than to get rid of the Englishman and take over his land. He is an evil and greedy man and would sacrifice anyone to get his way.

Marjorie's kidnappers end up being Graeme's younger brothers...thinking they could turn her over to the liege lord for money they badly need. Graeme is appalled and angry about what they have done as he is a man of honor and would never do something so wrong.

What will he do with Marjorie now? Does he take a chance on waging war?

As I said before, I loved this story. Graeme thinks "Ree" is a spoiled and pampered Englishwoman but it is so far from the truth. She wants nothing more than to be a part of London society and possibly find the man of her dreams but it hasn't been very successful so far.

Graeme and Ree both have misconceptions about one another so it is quite the learning experience for them both. I love Graeme's youngest brother, an adorable 8 year old. Ree slowly becomes involved in all their lives but there is still the shadow of her being "kidnapped".

Great Highlander story!

The book synopsis sums up this storyline accurately, folks. However, it really wasn’t until the latter portion hearts and minds were finally made up that sealed the deal on the last sentence. You see, Graeme was like book 1’s hero, stubbornly reluctant to love. The heroine also seemed to resign herself to them not having a future together, as well.

Graeme, the hero, was caught in the middle trying to avert a potentially catastrophic situation for his clan, especially his younger brothers. I actually felt sorry for him and the predicament he faced. That is until his hurtful at times, callous demeanor towards Marjorie, the heroine, surfaced. Sure, this “carries the weight of the world on his shoulders” impoverished laird eventually came to his senses, but it was quite some time before I could consistently label him with “hero” status. Let’s just say, he had a chip on his shoulder and a head full of preconceived notions regarding wealthy English lasses. Well into it and he was still willing to put himself and his family before Marjorie’s well-being. In fact, he stood to benefit greatly from using her as an unwilling pawn. The plus side is we got to see him evolve into the man the leading lady needed him to be.

This book had me feeling more sorry for the heroine than anyone else. When you compare the way “the Ton” treated her to how she was dealt with in the Highlands, I expected her to reflect back and think her olden days in London were the golden ones. I’m just surprised she didn’t stay focused on how much better her living situation was and let people get to her so easily. A gracious smile and mental middle finger would have served her well, IMHO.

Sure, the hero didn’t like the position he found himself, but he seemed very likely to ultimately use it to his advantage at any minute. If not for the youngest brother befriending her, I’m not sure Graeme would have gotten around to taking the time to get to really know her, let alone fall for her. He certainly seemed to have the patience of a saint when dealing with his much younger siblings.

Though at 50% it was all starting to feel somewhat overly drawn out with little progress made, until things started to pick up and inevitable events/showdowns fell into place leading to their HEA. Besides the issues I just mentioned, there was a strong underlying theme of attraction/chemistry, hand wringing, regret for hurting her, and some much needed getting to truly know each other, which by the end had me mostly forgiving this big lug of a knucklehead. At least by the conclusion I ended up with a hero I could clearly point my literary finger at and gesture an “I told you so”. Marjorie was beyond patient in dealing with his back and forth indecisiveness and treatment. Her main flaw was her obsession with getting respect/acknowledgment from people she shouldn’t have cared two cents about.

So, in summary, my fellow romance book loving friends. If you don’t mind some ill-treatment of the heroine and waiting for a hero to finally see what he needs most in life is right in front of him, you may want to check into this latest release by Ms. Enoch. For the most part, the heroine did stand her ground and handled everything with grace, determination, and ultimately diplomacy that saved them all.

This 'No Ordinary Hero' series has fallen flat for me in comparison to the other gems Suzanne Enoch has written in the past.
The love story in this instance seemed forced from the set-up all the way to the conclusion. I had an easier time believing Hortensia's love story and enjoyed it more. Actually all the side characters were well developed, even Graeme and Marjorie, but the romance was left to flounder.

Love this author's books, her writing is excellent and she takes me away to a world of adventure and passion. Loved it.

I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley.

While I thought the writing was good and pacing started off well, a third into the book I found myself losing interest and became disengaged from the characters. It could have been me and just not really in the mindset for this setting.

Marjorie Forrester, is a governess/lady maid until her brother becomes a Duke and she then becomes Lady Marjorie. Hoping and thinking London society will accept her, she finds the opposite is true and they treat her poorly as she's not "really one of them". Discouraged, she decides to go visit her brother in Scotland who is about to be married. Her and a lady's maid stop at an Inn on their journey and are kidnapped.

Graeme, Viscount Maxton is chieftain struggling to keep his siblings (he is the oldest and parents both have died), land and coffers all together. His younger brother thinks he can help by kidnapping the sister of their new neighbour, the Duke of Lattimer. The brother thinking it could help give his brother, Graeme leverage or help to negotiate for political reasons, the securing of their lands, also leverage and monies.

And so the story supposedly takes off from there. But I found that's when is became predictable and monotonous. The bickering and back and forth between the main characters had no real resolution or depth to their conversations or purpose. I also didn't feel there was any connection between the two main characters and also their sex scenes were awkward and off to me, strange. I found the heroine to be somewhat irritating and unappealing. I liked Graeme and his dedication to his family and responsibility honorable.

The writing went from somewhat fluid to flat half way through the book. I found the secondary characters (brothers are sweet) likable but the ending was disappointing.

Suzanne Enoch is one of my favorite romance authors. Her books deploy romance novel conventions in fresh, exciting ways. My One True Highlander lives up to that promise.

Now that her brother is a Duke, Lady Marjorie Forrester has more money than she knows what to do with. She lives in a fine house in London and has beautiful clothes. She can afford a companion who can teach her to become embraced by peers.

Unfortunately, however, Lady Marjorie’s new money and status have not yet been able to penetrate the prejudice of the peers, and she’s been rejected by them.

Graeme Maxton, a Viscount, took over responsibility of his three young brothers, their home, and their farm at the age of twenty. He’s simultaneously trying to maintain their ancestral property and protect them from the avaricious Duke of Dunncraigh. Dunncraigh wants revenge against the Duke of Lattimer, who happens to be Marjorie’s brother Gabriel.

In an effort to win Duke of Dunncraigh’s favor, and to protect themselves and their property from his threats, Graeme’s brothers kidnap Lady Marjorie.

This is where things get interesting. Graeme’s brothers kidnapped Lady Marjorie without his permission. But he can’t send her away without escalating things with either the Duke of Dunncraigh or the Duke of Lattimer. And then there’s the fact that she’s beautiful, brave, and resourceful.

Graeme and Lady Marjorie have a thrilling romance, and I loved that Lady Marjorie didn’t fall into Graeme’s arms immediately, just because she was attracted to him. She was kidnapped after all, and her dreams revolve around being embraced by aristocratic London—not living in Scotland. Enoch writes a complex dilemma for her characters: how can they find a suitable compromise when their dreams are so different?

At times, I didn't appreciate how this dilemma complicated their relationship (and their path to "reconciliation"), although the way that Enoch plays with the player’s expectations is further proof of how her stories are so original. The characters are likable and admirable and the story is highly sensual.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley but all opinions are my own.
