Central Valley High School has a new baseball coach. Chris Brennan was hired to teach Government and be an assistant coach on the baseball team. The kids take to him right away, but he seems to be paying special attention to just a few of the kids. Jordan is the only child of a single mom, Evan is the spoiled son of a wealthy family, and Raz just lost his father to cancer. All three boys have good reason to seek out a father figure like Chris. But Chris is hiding some pretty big secrets that could put tall of them in jeopardy. He is not who he says he is. He is hiding a secret that will turn the small school upside down if it is revealed. What is Chris's secret and what will happen to the small community when Chris's real identity is revealed.

One Perfect Lie was a fast-paced mystery novel. The author did a great job of keeping the reader in the dark regarding Chris's secret. I really didn't know where the story was going, but then when the secret was revealed it made complete sense. The other characters in the book were interesting, but not like Chris. I think Evan's mom was the most interesting to me. She was not about to sit by when she thought her spoiled son had done wrong and I liked her fesitiness. Once Chris's secret is revealed the book seemed to race to a conclusion that wrapped things up nicely. -- CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS

Bottom line - Lisa Scottoline is a master at her craft. Whether it is a legal thriller, a book of essays written with her daughter, or a stand-alone mystery, she knows how to craft a story that will keep the reader engaged right up to the very last page.

This is one of those page turners, you just had to find out who was the bad guy. The way the beginning was written I thought Chris the main character was the bad guy but the more you keep on reading things are not as they appear. In this day and age this is about something that could really happen but you hope never will. Lisa Scottoline is a very versatile writer and I enjoy the funny as well as the suspense.

One Perfect Lie" is definitely going to be one of the most talked about books for the next little while. I started reading this on the airplane today and I was so immersed in the plot that I didn't even realize that we were experiencing turbulence( well, I almost didn't). Suffice it to say, this just might be my all time favorite Lisa Scottoline book, but to be fair I haven't read many of her books.

I know that it is going to seem like I am being secretive about the plot, but the less you know about it, the more the story is going to screw with your head. Correction, the more the main story will mess with your head- the family drama stuff was a bit over the top( Mindy drove me bananas!!!). A real page turner!

In her latest offering, ONE PERFECT LIE, Lisa Scottoline juggles a large cast of characters deftly and doles out clues to what is really going on in a measured and judicious manner. More important, she recognizes the complexity of the town of Central Valley and its residents.

In previous books she has demonstrated her skill at creating strong characters as well as building drama and conflict but in this particular instance she has outdone herself. This review will be sort of generic since to present too much of the story involving a good looking midyear replacement teacher named Chris Brennan and the threat of home grown domestic terrorism would ruin the abundant surprises in store for potential readers.

There is more than one lie being perpetrated in this tale of small town America and most of the characters are not who they appear to be at first glance.

If this book does anything it really gets the reader thinking about their own town, their own friends and family and leads us to question how much we truly know about anyone.

Another hit by Lisa Scottoline! This book was full of suspense not didn't make me feel like I knew what was next like some books do. Lisa knows how to write a great story! I became invested in the characters and had a hard time putting the book down

Lisa Scottoline is one of my favorite authors. This latest book is one of her standalone novels, not part of her popular Rosato & DiNunzio law firm series.

Chris Brennan applies for a teaching job at Central Valley High School. Immediately, we know that he is not who he appears to be. Questions arise: Who is he really? What is his plan? What is he going to do to this community and his students?

The story unfolds through multiple storylines. At first, I had trouble remembering who each of the characters were. I had to keep going back to the chapter in which each character's story was introduced. However, if I had been able to sit and read the book for longer periods of time, this probably wouldn't have been a problem.

This book is full of unexpected twists and turns. An emotional thriller filled with contemporary issues, it is suspenseful, fast-paced, and hard to put down. However, I questioned the reality of the heroics at the end of the novel. The physical feats described seemed a bit unrealistic to me.

I still highly recommend this book. From the start, I was emotionally invested, especially how the possible terror plot is highly relevant in today's world. This is definitely a page-turner! I look forward to Scottoline's next book.

Thank you to Netgalley and to St. Martin's Press for providing me with an advance digital copy to read and review.

I went into this novel knowing nothing of the author and little of the storyline. I won't say much, but I really enjoyed the suspense of the plot, and how well the individual characters were interwoven. The theme of deception, both lies and lies of ommission, were well developed and made me think far more than I normally would in a suspense\mystery. Really good.

I honestly have no idea why this book has set on my Kindle for so long without me reading it. If I had only know what I was missing out on! Lisa Scottoline sure does know how to write a story that will keep you entertained and immersed in the story the whole way through. I can say that this will not be a last read for me by Lisa Scottoline!

Chris Brenan (aka Curt Abbott) is interviewing for a teaching position when we meet him. He has nailed his previous interviews, but all that he has told them is a lie. Chris is trying to get into the little community that he has come to in Wyoming to help cover up what he is really doing there. All through the first part of the book we believe that Chris is there for one reason, and when we get to the second part we find out that it is for an entirely different reason that he is really there.

Chris targets a trio of friends that seem to be the easiest ones in the school to get in with because of their situations at home. Raz, Evan and Jordan are young men that have either lost a parent, have a single mom raising them or have parents that are on the rocks. When Chris also becomes their Baseball coach, that is another way that he can get in with these 3 guys and do what he has been sent there to do.

This story keeps you guessing and it isn't until the end that it all becomes clear what is really going on. I love how Lisa Scottoline was able to do that! All the characters are very well developed and have their own little stories going on. This was a great read and I am glad that I finally picked it up and read it! I can't wait to see what is next from Lisa Scottoline!

This was one of several books I have read by Lisa and it was just what you would expect.....Wonderful

This book seemed somewhat different to me than other Lisa Scottoline books, and at first I was a bit thrown off by that. But soon I found myself intrigued and glued to the story and what was going to happen next.

This was not my favorite of hers but I enjoyed reading it. I find her to be a consistently good author.

Three point five to four stars.

Thanks to the publisher for allowing me this ARC. All opinions are my own.

It was my first time to read a novel from this author. The plot was pretty interesting. And STEP ONE was deceiving! I like how the writer made me think that the protagonist was an antagonist. But overall the novel is just okay for me. And the ending was too sappy. I guess all heroes deserve their happy endings

This book has opened my eyes a little.  I have set up a circle of trust with my kids.  If someone is not in that circle, then they do not share information with that person.  It has been awhile since we talked about this and this book made me realize I need to do that.  You never know in this world today what someone really is like behind closed doors.

I can not believe that I have not read any from this author with how popular she is.  I do know that I have wanted to read other books from her and I plan to.

This storyline could happen in real life and that is scary.  It had my mind wondering if it is possible for a man or woman to get a job with a school district in order to pull of some kind of plan.  It frightens me that this man, Chris Brennan, looks for the easiest kid to help him.  It had me thinking would my children do that.  Will they allow someone to use them like this?

I want to thank Ms Scottline for having me think so much about this possibility that I want to have this talk with my children.

ONE PERFECT LIE by Lisa Scottoline is my first read by this author. I wanted to read a Scottoline novel after hearing so many good things about her books. To be perfectly honest, I was disappointed. The genre is right but the story did not suck me in, I found I was not really interested in the characters.

I found the main character Chris Brennan totally unbelievable; I do not want to go into the plot of this book because it will give to much away but it was one coincidence after another, leading to solving the books mystery.

Perhaps I expected to much, I will surely read another novel by Lisa Scottoline to see what all the buzz is about.

Not my favourite Lisa Scottoline but a good read none the less. I almost lost interest in the first quarter as I just couldn't get a handle on what was happening but then all became clear and I realised it had actually been quite a clever start.
The characters seemed to fall a bit neatly into one of two camps so you either love them or hate them and I look forward to hearing how Chris/Curt gets on in the future without giving any spoilers of course!

I really enjoyed reading this book. I have to say that there were a few surprises along the way in this story and I really like surprises. Especially in books. I started reading this book thinking that things were going in a certain direction until everything changed and I had no idea where this book would end up. That is exactly the kind of reading experience that I like to have. This was one of those books that kept me guessing.

Chris Brennan is seemingly perfect. But everything about him is a lie. He is hired to teach at the local high school and he is also going to be the assistant baseball coach. He has his story worked out and everyone seems to love him right from the start. Now he just needs to figure out which kid is going to be the best choice to fit into his plan.

The characters in this book grew on me. I had a hard time connecting with anyone at the beginning of the book but by the time I had reached the end of the story I thought they were great. Most of the characters are just really good people although imperfect. They all have things going on in their lives that impact their behaviors but they seemed to be doing the best that they could under the circumstances.

I loved the writing. There was a lot of action in this book that really kept the pace moving. There were a lot more twists and turns than I was expecting which really kept the story interesting. This story felt very real. While it is a fictional story, everything that happened in this story felt like something that could really happen which was actually quite scary. This was a big story and the fact that it felt authentic was a big plus.

I would highly recommend this book to others. It was a very fast paced story that could be hard to put down at times. I have been a fan of Lisa Scottoline for a number of years and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.

I received an advance reader edition of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley.

3.5 stars. I can't say much about about the plot of One Perfect Lie without giving way too much away. All I'll say is that from the beginning we know that Chris isn't really who he says he is when he starts teaching high school. And then Chris starts figuring which of his students he should be grooming... The story then focuses on Chris, three of his students and their three mothers. One Perfect Lie is not great or particularly deep, but it did the trick for a lengthy train ride. It is light and entertaining, and it had one particularly good twist. I especially liked the way in which Scottilone depicted the relationships between the three teenagers and their sons -- not too simplistic but not too harsh. The resolution seemed to come a bit out of left field and the very end was predictable, but the road to getting there was engaging enough to make this one worthwhile. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read an advance copy.

A very well written book with a storyline that was totally unexpected. The twist in the plot was really surprising. This is another great book written by Lisa Scottoline. She never disappoints. Her books are always really good and well worth reading. This thriller has plenty of action in it and a little romance. Everything you need for a really good read.

This book is brilliant. It has a terrific major twist. I couldn't stop reading. The writing is fast paced and flows really well, which held my interest. I thought the story was so well thought out that it could even be a film. Read this !

it was amazing

I automatically liked the synopsis and was debating between 4 and 5 stars, but for me, this is a 5 star read. It's AMAZING!

The story is about a teacher called Curt Abbott, seemingly just a regular guy from small-town Pennsylvania. Curt goes undercover as "Chris" at a school called Central Valley High School, known to students and teachers as CVHS.
Curt, or "Chris" concocts a false identity as a government and criminal justice teacher. The scene is set well at the beginning of the story and the feelings of being somewhere new are very well represented. Chris's plan is a little hazy at the start, but is cleverly put into place. I was asking myself at the start what he'd do.

As part of the plan, he targets three boys: there's Evan Kostis, the rich kid and son of country club member parents whose marriage is falling apart.

Then, there's Jordan, the shy kid and loner who's mother is a waitress at the country club.

Finally, there's Raz who's the wildest and most rebellious of the three. He, his mother and brother Ryan are trying to rebuild their lives after the loss of the boys' father to a long illness.

All three boys are on the school's basketball team, for which "Chris" also works during his time at the high school.

The book is extremely well-thought out, fast paced, but not so much as to make you lose the thread of what's going on as the story develops. What a story this is! Engaging from start to end, if you like stories where some people aren't who they seem, but where others have deeply moving backstories and where every page is full of suspense, action and keeps you guessing, then One Perfect Lie is for you! I was pleasantly surprised by this book.

The title is the perfect summary and representation of the book and plot. This was the first of Lisa Scottoline's books I have had the pleasure of reading. Thanks to Lisa and the publisher, St Martin's Press for sending me the eARC via NetGalley of this truly unforgettable thriller/ suspense story by an incredibly talented author.
