Great story, thrilling plot that I could not put down. Well worth a read, and would recommend to others.

I could NOT get into this novel...it felt like a draft where the plot was a bit all over the place and convoluted.

I was incredibly intrigued at the beginning of this novel, but, unfortunately it did not hold my attention and I had to put this one in my DNF pile. I think this would be better suited for a reader who really enjoys a "slow burn" style of mystery.

Well looks like I found a new author to stalk this year. First of all thank you for allowing me to read this early, I am honored. Excuse me tho while I "GOOGLE" the author and purchase his other books.

In an effort to protect and conceal her husband's mental impairment, given that he is a judge responsible for making important sometimes life altering decisions, his wife Barbara and his law clerk try to " fill in" to keep his reputation intact-but that can only last so long. Given that premise, eventually an investigation into a case the judge was involved in comes to light and that's when the story gets bogged down-it becomes quite confusing with too many characters and frequently changing story lines. At just over 300 pages it seemed to read much longer and unfortunately didn't hold my interest.

A tense, exciting, original and complex legal thriller featuring New York City Supreme Court Justice Bill Lonergan who after an accident is displaying signs of Alzheimers. Given the threat to his career, his wife and secretary Barbara dies her utmost to protect him an seek medical assistance. Her efforts are not helped when the judge faces a complaint of judicial misconduct and gets embroiled in investigating an old murder case.

There's a lot going on but this standalone novel merits the attention it needs from the reader. Highly recommended.

A Shattered Circle is very convoluted as well as confusing. The story jumps around, and, often, when a new chapter with a different setting is introduced, the name of the person who is being featured isn’t even mentioned until well into a couple paragraphs. I had a hard time knowing whom the author was writing about.

One of the story lines had a character following another character who was also being followed by still another character. All that following just added to the confusion. To add more confusion, there were way too many characters. The story became scattered.

I thought the plot was unconvincing in that all those people were being killed for a very weak reason. Sorry, I do not recommend this one.

This book was very, very good, well written, and kept my interest from beginning to end. There are a quite alot of characters and a couple of side stories so you have to pay close attention to who's who. Resembles a good John Grisham novel. Highly recommend!

I always love a good thriller that's a combination of psychological and legal. Something you don't have too many of (at least done with a good balance between the two). I think that Egan did a good job weaving this legal thriller.

Judge William Lonergan is left mentally impaired after an accident. However, with the help of his wife and legal clerk, he is still able to fulfill his judicial duties - thereby protecting his reputation and keeping his true health condition a secret. However, when a private investigator comes knocking for help on a murder case involving an upstate New York lawyer, their new way of life is at risk.

I think that my background in political science and international relations helps fuel my enjoyment out of this book. If you aren't a fan of legal work or the judicial system, then this isn't the book for you. Otherwise I thought that it was well-written and a great thriller. It's very interesting how they had developed a way for the Judge to still work, even with a new mental handicap. That element made it unique compared to some other legal thrillers I've read.

Thank you to Tor/Forge for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Barbara puts her life on hold after her husband, William,a prominent New York City judge becomes mentally impaired after an accident. She cares for his personal needs as well as his professional ones, hiring law clerk Larry Seagle to help keep the judge’s reputation intact. But the judge had plenty of unsavory secrets and a P.I. and a court officer trying to prove an old friend innocent of a murder bring plenty of trouble to Barbara’s door. It would seem that she had secrets of her own, so she packs up and takes William to their summer home. But any illusion of safety is just that, an illusion. A tense, complex mystery that will keep readers guessing
