Hannah DuPont-Lowell was planning to retire eventually to her family home in New Orleans but when she was abruptly laid off she immediately returned to her plantation-style home.
The Garden District DuPont House with eighteen rooms and two guesthouses would make a wonderful inn which was Hannah's plan for her retirement. She invites her friends/coworkers Tonya, Jasmine, and Nydia to join her in the new adventure since they were unemployed. Hannah returns to New Orleans just in time to attend her high school reunion where she once again connects with College Professor St. John McNair, Hannah’s one-time classmate. Their rekindled friendship moves toward romance.
The characters have room for growth which will fun to see in future installments of this new series. i look forward to the future of this series.
THE INHERITANCE is a captivating read, and I know you are going to enjoy it. This book has the potential to be the genesis of another first-rate series that will be comparable to the Eaton family series, the Cavanaugh Island novels, and the Hideaway novels. Be sure to add THE INHERITANCE to the top of your TBR pile. You can thank me later.
As a fan of Rochelle Alers from many moons ago, I couldn't wait to see what she had in store for her fans. I thank this author for reminding folks that love is for all ages. The pace and transition of the various subjects, (job loss, new beginnings, sexual problems), in this book is handled by a gifted writer. I love the "maturity" of this story and can't wait to read the other three. Thanks Rocelle
Hannah grew up in the Big Easy, but has spent the last eight years in the Big Apple working with contracts at a large investment bank. When she and many others get laid off unexpectedly, Hannah takes this as an opportunity to return to her roots and continue developing the inn she has always dreamt of transforming her family home, the Dupont House, into. When she first gets back to Nawlins (New Orleans), she attends a fortieth high school reunion where she catches up with her old friend St. John (Sinjun) McNair. What starts as a friendship progresses to a dance partnership, which transforms into something more. Rochelle Alers does a great job of infusing local culture into this story, but occasionally the Dupont family history bits bog the story down. It's a fast-paced story filled with friendship and romance, but seems slightly unpolished.
You will like this if you enjoy second chance romances! Alers has written a neat character in Hannah and a very appealing one in St John so you will also root for them. Loved the setting, loved the story, and think this has great potential for additional plot lines. thanks to Netgalley for the ARC- I has not read Alers before so this was a real treat. Am looking forward to more from her. Thumbs up!
This is a wonderful and refreshing new series by Rochelle Alers about two people who later in life find true happiness and love.
Corporate Attorney Hannah DuPont returns to her home in New Orleans after her job suddenly ends. While attending her 40th year class reunion she reconnects with an old classmate. College professor St. John McNair is delighted to reunite with his old classmate and finds a rekindling of old feelings. Both Hannah and St. John have survived unhappy marriages and are reluctant and hesitant about getting involved. They find that they have finally found what truly makes them happy.
This is the beginning to a great series about friendships and starting over.
I love that this is a second chance at love novel. Some of us don't get it right the first time! I have read Rochelle Alers work before so I was eager to read this story. Thank you, Netgalley and publisher for this opportunity. Primarily set in New Orleans, Hannah and St. John story was encouraging for me. It's rare that you read a novel about older couples. They need love too! There was a lot of facts and information that tells the author did tremendous research. I felt as if I were there and my mouth watered from the tasty food mentioned. Sometimes, it was a bit much (although it didn't take away from the story). The romance was secondary to the journey of the characters to me. It was good to see both characters free themselves from the past and grab hold onto each other for the future. It is a strong foundation read for a series. I look forward to learning Tonya and Gage's story.
