How do you describe a book such as 'Redemption?' All i can say is that after all the ups and downs and the experiences she has had to endure, I am pleased that her strength has pulled her through. A well written book and one that will stay in my mind for a long time yet.

My review has been posted on Goodreads and Amazon.

Redemption is an apparently autobiographical work of fiction. The author, and protagonist of the story, endured terrible abuse in her childhood, attempted suicide, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder with psychotic episodes. The book chronicles the story of hitting bottom more than once, going on and off medication, with periods of happiness and security with her husband and children. But these periods don't last, and each fall from a period of mania seems to be followed with an depression that is worse than the last one.

Eventually she learns to find and trust God, and, with the help of a caring therapist and her own grit and will to not only survive, but thrive, she seems to emerge secure in her love for herself and her husband.

This is a raw description of the life of someone with bipolar disorder. Ms. Frey has clearly endured horrific experiences in her life and her struggle for ultimate redemption is inspiring.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

A roller coaster ride is one way to describe Redemption. Amazing is another way to describe this memoir. Because, that is what Redemption is... a glimpse into Courtney Frey's life...all the ups and downs. And what she has experienced might seem nearly fictional to some.

As someone who suffered from major depression several years ago, I felt a small kinship to Courtney as she describes the incredible lows her bipolar disorder brought. She describes them as black out times and that is pretty close to what I experienced. Two months of my life is nothing but a hazy blur in my memories.

For those who want to see that a life can be a train wreck and yet rise from the ashes to something more beautiful, this is a title to read. But, if all you want is roses, keep looking. Redemption is about hope and love. But, it isn't skirting all the shadowy areas that real life brings.
