Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
So I'm trying to pinpoint what about this book didn't connect for me, because we had kind of enough back story to get invested. But I think when it comes down to it, it's the fact that there was no indication that the "darkest, most illicit desires" where what they were going to be- it's CNC, not whatever other form of BDSM I was expecting. Please for the love of God, if you're going to read this, please know exactly what you're getting into.
This book was dark and twisted. The flawed but sexy controlling ANTI-hero was all I needed.
These characters were amazing. Both messed up with fabulous chemistry. I liked this book. A lot.
A quick, erotic read. The storyline kept me entertained and I was rooting for Inge and Jake's relationship despite how it began. I didn't really mind how blood thirsty Inge was. I actually found her ability to save herself rather cool.
While this book is all kinds of silly, over the top at times, completely ridiculous at others, and totally frustrating, I liked it. Don't get me wrong... I almost stopped reading it after the first couple of chapters. The thing is, I have a compulsion to finish a book I've started. For better or for worse, I kept going.
Now, I get insta love. I like it sometimes. In this case that would have been fine if these characters weren't utterly dumb most of the time. Specifically Jake.
Jake is this alpha character with a horribly dark past that is best in his line of work. He's warned that the person he's after will use sex to get away and yet falls for it all most immediately. Same goes for Inge. She is stilled and all, but apparently mostly uses her sex appeal to take out her targets. So the way they fall into bed was annoying. Frankly, a lot of things about the book and their relationship were annoying. While the sex between them is supposed to be forced and a little taboo, it was pretty tame. Nobody is actually forced and the little games they played with each other worked for them.
So did I like it? It's just okay... It took me out of my life for a minute and that's all I was really looking for. I had a little bit of fun.
I'm not sure that I'd read this author again, but it was kind of fun even as it was totally unbelievable.
I wasn't able to get into this book so much. I enjoyed the sexy aspects of it, but falling for her captor was just too much for me. I did not finish it.
As first novels go, this is one heck of a way to start--it's hot, taboo, dark, dirty, gritty and edgy, and it's gets 4 stars from me.
Inge is considered the finest operative in a covert group of beautiful female agents called the Seduction Squad. This exclusive group are reminiscent of Mata Hari--they are skilled courtesans whose primary function is to seduce rich, powerful and influential men, and get them to divulge classified/secret information. We first meet her on day three of her captivity--she's been captured, tossed into the trunk of car, driven somewhere, gagged, and forced to wear a hood with only very small openings so she can breathe. Her captor has, so far, allowed her to use the bathroom (while he watches) and he's fed her, but has, so far, only spoken in single word sentences. She's spent her time trying to figure out who he is and what he wants to that she can seduce him and escape.
Told in alternating narration, we next meet her captor, Jake, the muscle for a man he only refers to as "the commander". Jake's mission is to fend off Inge's sexy and seductive attributes and get her to give him as much information as he can elicit about one of her lovers/targets, Ricardo Villacruz, the head of an Ecuadorian drug cartel. Although he's been told all about the dangers of her seductive wiles, once the hood is off and he allows her to shower, he can't help but be attracted to this beautiful yet deadly woman, and she's surprised to find herself equally attracted to him.
Judging Jake to have dominant tendencies, Inge tries to appeal to that part of his nature, by remarking that she likes to be forced--and no, she's not just saying that--it's also her sexual preference, and she's right about Jake too, an extremely well-endowed, hunky, mixed-race, African alpha male complete with dreadlocks. I could have lived without the dreadlocks, since I don't find them appealing. It's at this point I feel it necessary to issue a warning to readers for whom scenes of forced MF and MM sex, bondage, rape, public sex, and breath play are triggers. This short novel contains all of the aforementioned in graphic detail, and the deeper and darker their sexual needs are indulged, the more that these two realize that they are perfect for one another. It's a shame that in addition to being ordered by the commander to get the information Inge possesses, in whatever manner he chooses, once he does so, he's been ordered to kill her.
There's a lot more action and graphic violence to follow as Inge insists that the only way to get the information Jake wants is to go the Ecuador and meet with Villacruz. As if things weren't already complicated enough, Inge has her own issues to deal with when it comes to the drug lord, and, believe it or not, there's a light at the end of all this darkness and despite the darkness, intrigue, sex and violence, there is an HEA ending.
For a first novel, this one packs quite a wallop. My only issue with it is that we learn more about Jake's past and how it affected him emotionally than we do about Inge's past and its effect on her. It's most definitely for mature readers only, but personally, I cannot wait to read more of what promises to be one hell of a series.
I should've known a book with a name like "Seduction Squad" might give me some very weird vibes. I'm not even quite sure what to say about this book. It was kinda hot but might also kinda freak you out.
Sooo, this book begins with the capture of a "operative" on the seduction squad. And if you're thinking, is a seduction squad a group of women who use their sexuality to complete top secret quasi-government missions- yes. Yes, it is. So, ok, there's that and honestly I wasn't much a fun of that particular concept. Then there is Inge, the aforementioned captured operative. Inge is trained in lethal seduction (ok, I almost can't even type that without rolling my eyes) and is captured by Jake. Jake is ice cold and is evenly matched with Inge in terms of his ability to manipulate captives to get what he wants. So from the beginning of the book we have a battle of wills. Inge is looking for any way to get to Jake so she can both protect her own secrets and elicit his.
In the end Inge figures out a way "in" to Jake that winds up exposing both Inge's and Jake's dark side. I was kind of confused about how Inge guessed at exactly what turned Jake on. I mean I know it was her job and all but there was just no hint of the weakness that ultimately did Jake in. Anyway, Inge and Jake both want the same super freaky thing. When Inge uses her knowledge against Jake, she also somewhat inadvertently gives him access to what makes her tic. As you may have guessed, Jake and Inge bond over their shared freaky tendencies. They discover that they actually enjoy each other despite the whole inconvenient 'I may have to kill you' thing.
There is some simulated (kind of) forced sex and even breath play. Simulated forced sex doesn't really bother me but it might not be your thing. I'm not really into breath play but again it wasn't a trigger for me like it might be for others. More than some of the more taboo features of this book, what I didn't totally love was just the lack of a story. I like all the steamy stuff and I wasn't mad at the author for giving it to us, I just needed a little more story to fluff it up.
Inge can normally get any man under her charm but when jake kidnapped her he isn’t one to break first under seduction, will Inge be able to break away from jake or will see fall more under Jake’s spell. This is a fast paced read with lots of drama, sex and great chemistry. I really liked it this story. Also first time I've read book I've read from this author. Would recommend and left review on Amazon.uk
Interesting read with lots of background and baggage for the main characters.
It has some "rape" like sex but they both got off on it so to each his own. I really don't get into that much. Dredlocks not my favorite either...yuk.
For a novella there was lots of character development and you understood everyone's actions without being left in the dark. Each character was sexy, dangerous, and once they get together unstoppable.
Interesting short read.
Received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
This was one of the hottest novels I have ever read! I absolutely loved the hero and the heroine and will read more from this author in the future.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this novel!
Inge can normally get any man under her charm to talk but when she is kidnapped Jake isn’t one to break under seduction, will Inge be able to break away or fall under Jake’s spell. This is a fast paced read with lots of drama and great chemistry. I really liked it!
This was a great book! It was dirty enough to keep my interest and the plot was pretty good as well. Anyone looking for a dirty book will be pleased.
I was a little confused as to where this story was going, and found that it wasn’t at all what the synopsis implied. Not really to my taste, but I’m sure others will find it entertaining.
3.5 Stars Seduction Squad: Captured is my first read by Amanda Stewart. I liked this story I was a bit unsure about the forced seduction/rape-play but as the story progressed I gained a better perspective of the plot and therefore began to enjoy it more
a good solid romance with an interesting plot. Great read from start to finish. liked it!
