I've been an avid gardener for years and I've never quite understood what in the world "bright shade" was supposed to be until I read through this book. It's a great reference for gardeners who wish to make their shady areas look awesome. Because you don't need sunshine all the time to have a beautiful garden!
Glorious Shade is a great read for the shade gardener. Enjoyed the in-depth descriptions of types of shade, as well as how shade evolves through the seasons and the years. Provides practical details of how to garden in shade and about choosing the best trees and plants to grow. I particularly liked the combination of rounded Buxus with Hostas and burgundy Heucheurea. Also enjoyed the plant choice lists grouped by qualities such as "Fragrant Shade Plants" and "Herbaceous Plants to try around Tree Roots", although would be nice to have hardiness zones included in these lists. The plant description are really well layed out and it's easy to get the pertinent details like size and zone without becoming too interested in the plant only to find it's not hardy in your gardening zone. Glorious Shade gave me a new appreciation for shade gardening.
