First of all, let me just say this story made me laugh so hard I thought I was gonna pee my pants a few times. Fiona is probably the most likeable and amazing female book lead over ever read. In real life, she and I would be best friends.

Fiona is a sarcastic, witty, take no shit kinda gal. She comes from money, but still has a great I want to help everyone and everything attitude.

This isn't your typical player guy meets the girl who finally makes him settle down kinda romance, in fact it was so much more.

The banter between Fiona and Mark was what made this book. I was unable to put it down until the very end.

Warning: this may be a quick read but you will still get ALL the feels. It will make you laugh and possibly even cry.

Fiona is the type of girl who has everything: faithful friends, a family that loves her and a life. A life that changed radically when she had cancer at the age of nine. Her parents spent a lot of time looking for treatments for her, and when she was finally cured, they thought her example could fill the hearts of other parents with hope and created a foundation to invest in the treatment of childhood cancer.

Everyone thought that Fiona's problems were over because she always showed that it was okay to move on and fight strong for her enemy Guilt of sometimes complaining about not being able to stand on anything, no job, no relationship, no idea that she was really healed .

Mark is one of Nate's best friends, boyfriend of her bestfriend, he works in the construction industry and just wants to drink and have fun with friends and girls, those without commitment. Until the day he wake up in a strange bed and does not remember anything what happened.

Fiona and Mark did not have a good impression of each other and did not sympathize with each other in the first meeting they had, but a situation brought them both closer and Mark began to see Fiona as a special person with a giant heart But he knows that she was hiding behind smiles and a mask that she wore mainly when she was near her parents.

The book brings a message of help to people going through this difficult time in their lives, a message of hope and solidarity through the altruism of Fiona and at the end the great gesture of Mark as well.

With a flowing writing the writer made me fall in love with this unlikely and fun couple.

I just did not like the choice of the cover that gave me a message from a YA's book, which does not really come close because of the protagnonist’s ages and many hot scenes.

The rating of 2 stars is arbitrary as I found that I really couldn't get into the book and therefore it was a DNF.
Thanks.

This is my first book of Sylvie Stewart but not the last.
Fionna is funny, sweet, brave and loving. Mark is big, feisty and gorgeous. The story make laugh and cry. Sometimes I think Fiona is talking to much but I understand what she is explaining.
I enjoy reading this book and recommend it to you. You will love it.

Fun, fulfilling and fast-paced, Sylvie Stewart’s latest book, The Spark, is also a masterclass in how to write a strong, sexy heroine with a hint of vulnerability that a reformed playboy hero simply can’t resist.

The story moves along at a cracking pace and while it takes a while for Fiona and Mark to actually meet, we learn a lot about their backgrounds in the meantime – and it really helped me warm to them.

I did struggle at first with the book’s bright and chatty style but that could have something to do with the last book I’d read, which was a bit more serious than I was used to.

I soon got into the swing of it – and when I did, I couldn’t put it down.

Here’s the blurb:

When your back is against the wall, can you change the person life’s experiences have molded you to be?

Fiona Pierce is many things to many people. Dutiful daughter to her loving parents, fiercely loyal friend to her very tolerant bestie, half-assed employee to her laundry list of bosses, and dedicated fashion goddess and spreader of good cheer to the world at large. But Fiona is hiding something behind her irresistible smile – something she’s determined to keep to herself.

Mark Beckett doesn’t do complicated. Saddled with lingering baggage from his childhood, Mark sails through life one girl at a time – with frequent gym breaks in between. He likes his life just how it is and doesn’t see any need to change his work-hard/play-hard attitude.

When an unexpected blast from the past threatens to turn his family's life upside down, Mark finds help in the unlikeliest of places – specifically the pint-sized princess who has a knack for pushing his buttons.

Can you overcome your fears and embrace the happiness you might just deserve? And, perhaps more importantly, can you really fall in love with someone who is so damn insufferable?

If you’re looking for a quick fix of romance, this is for you. The chemistry between Fiona and Mark is irresistible - and the spark soon bursts into flames. It was such fun witnessing them get together. There are some great scenes that genuinely made me chuckle.

It’s the second book in the Carolina Connections series – although works as a standalone. The first has definitely won its place in my “To Read” pile.

Format: Kindle.
Price: £2.46.
My rating: Four stars.
