I am a firm believer that every recipe in a cookbook should include a photo of the finished dish. I want to know what a recipe looks like before I commit to cooking it and I like to see how it's supposed to look so I can make mine look the same. With so many amazing cooking blogs out there with multiple photos for every recipe, cookbooks really need to step it up in the photo department! That being said, I appreciate the ratio of "normal" recipes to far out ones in this book. There are several I would try. I most want to try the pumpkin martini and pumpkin latte the author mentions but there are no recipes included for those.

As I read this excellent cookbook, one question dominated my mind: where, oh where could I possibly get a pumpkin in February? I have resorted to canned pumpkin, but I suspect that the result is not the same as if I'd actively run down a true heirloom pumpkin variety. Needless to say, I'll be sowing a few of those in my community garden this year! Never before had I suspected the vast nutritional and culinary usefulness of the humble pumpkin. I will be serving Thanksgiving dinner's soup course in bowls of pumpkin next year, I think.

The Pumpkin Cookbook, 2nd Edition: 139 Recipes Celebrating the Versatility of Pumpkin and Other Winter Squash by DeeDee Stovel is a relatively comprehensive pumpkin or squash cookbook. The main focus of her cookbook seems to be about pumpkins but you will find some squash recipes.

The author starts her cookbook discussing the varieties of squash (which includes pumpkins); how to prepare pumpkins and how to cook them. She includes a chart showing how to cook a pumpkin by broiling, steaming, microwaving, roasting and grilling.

I also appreciated her note about egg white safety as a recipe called Orange-Pumpkin Spanish Cream uses raw egg whites.

Some of the recipes you'll find in her cookbook include:

Pumpkin Pizza
Pasta with Pumpkin and Wild Mushrooms
Roast Chicken with Harvest Vegetables
Pumpkin-Turkey Medley
Graham Cracker Pumpkin Tannies
Surprising Pumpkin-Orange Cheesecake
Pumpkin Baked Alaska with Pumpkin-Ginger Ice Cream
Pumpkin Fudge

Recommend.

Thank you Netgalley for this one!
Oh my! This cookbook is filled with so many yummy and delicious pumpkin recipes . I absolutely loved the authors' introduction of the book. The way she shared tips and pumpkin stories and history throughout made this cookbook even more enjoyable. Beautiful photographs of only some of the recipes in the book were provided. I would have liked a photo included with all the recipes. My favorites so far are the recipes for punkin' joes and pumpkin mashed potatoes. I am definitely excited to try others especially the northern Italian pumpkin Lasagna also, the white bean chicken and pumpkin chili.
Full of really great ideas for how to cook your fall pumpkins or can even substitute pumpkin for squash. If you love pumpkin, fall recipes, tips and ideas this cookbook is an absolutely must for adding to your collection. It's just everything pumpkin fabulous!

This cookbook is great! I tried out some of the recipes this weekend and I loved them. My favorite so far is the orange banana pumpkin smoothie- it's so creamy and delicious! I also tried making the chicken pumpkin tacos, which were a big hit. I'll have to wait to try some of the other recipes because they call for fresh pumpkin & it's hard to find it in stores this time of year. This cookbook is definitely one of my favorite ones so far and I will definitely buy a copy to add to my collection.

As someone who loves pumpkin soups, baking with pumpkin substitutes, pumpkin seeds and everything pumpkin the fall can bring, I jumped at the chance to read, review and then test things from the book itself. I love that this book starts with the author getting personal about how she felt about pumpkins, and how the people in her life reacted on both sides of the fence when she said she was writing it. This whole personal beginning made it feel more like I was sitting down with a friend to swap secret recipes, rather than diving off a ciff into dangerous uncertain cooking waters.

I loved the early helpful charts on how what equalled what, how you could cook things, and then a breakdown of what all the cooking words meant (which was well done, especially if someone entirely new jumped into this book). The extra pages with data and details, special and rare throughout the book were delightful, especially about Halloween, Thanksgiving, Pumpkin Festivals, and the Pumpkin capitol of the world, and on.

The recipes after were absolutely divine and I can't wait to try a good number of them: Roasted Ginger Pumpkin-Pear Soup, Creamy Kale Pumpkin Soup, Grated Candied Pumpkin, Storey Publishing, Blue Cheese & Pumpkin Galette, Cheddar Pumpkin Tarts, Punkin' Joes, Pumpkin Lasagna, Pumpkin Pear Galette Pie, Lemon-Pumpkin Strudel, Peachy-Pumpkin Crisp.

The Index pages don't exist yet, but I'm certain they will be just as helpful and detail laid out as the rest of this book. This is definitely a five-out-five release and I can't wait to pick up my own solid copy!

Thank you to Netgalley and Storey Publishing, LLC for a for review ARC.

A great cookbook focusing on the versatile pumpkin. Recipes range from stews to breads, you'll be sure to find something to make with your leftover pumpkins. It would be nice if there were a few more photos of the recipes instead of photos of pumpkins. Overall a good addition for those looking to include this healthy squash in more meals.

The author gave great detail for the preparation and cooking methods of the pumpkin. Most of the recipes seemed simple and easy enough. There are few I would like to test out that were very unique. I do wish there were more pictures as vibrant pictures always make me more inclined to try and recipe.

Pumpkin and squash are some of my favourite vegetables to roast, add to soup, bake and mix with pasta, salad and more but I'm always looking for more meal ideas. The photography within this book is gorgeous however I wish there was more of it of the finished recipes - it's my only negative of the book! I've made a couple of the recipes, albeit with some alternations to make them vegan/vegetarian and when autumn comes around again, I'll definitely be using this cookbook so much!
