I read a book featuring Chester Raccoon last year so when I saw that this book was out I was genuinely pleased to be able to get my hands on a copy - the illustrations in the book are just lovely!

The book was well written and easy to follow and I am sure that this book will bring a lot of reassurance to children who are looking to spend their first night away from their parents - it is normal to be worried and if you want to go home that its fine too and you will have been missed!

It is 5 stars from me for this one, well written and with some gorgeous illustrations - very highly recommended!

Audrey Penn does it once again! A marvelous loving story, beautifully written and illustrated where children are made to feel a range of emotions as they read about Chester's first sleepover, the happy moments he experiences as well as the anxiety he feels in being far from home. I am eager to read more books in this series.

Oh sweet Chester. What's not to like about little ones being reassured of their safety in love? I read this book with my 7 year old and he loved it just as much as the Kissing Hand.

This is a really sweet book about Chester Raccoon, following the success of the Kissing Hand. It is such a bittersweet reminder of what childhood was like when you stayed away from home. I really enjoyed this story.

Thank you NetGalley for sharing Chester Raccoon and the Almost Perfect Sleepover with me. This book is beautifully illustrated from start to finish. This is a wonderful story to read to children before bed. The book is full of the activities that Chester and his friends take part in before being tuckered out. I enjoy the imaginative environment that makes the characters feel real. I also enjoy the message of the story.

Chester the Raccoon is so adorable. My young students loved this book. I also read it to my 4 year old niece and she also really enjoyed it. I liked the illustration style and enjoyed the read aloud process of this book. I would definitely recommend this book.

Chester the Raccoon is excited but nervous to go to his first slumber party at his friend Pepper Opossum's place. His mom walks Chester to the party and then says goodbye. Chester and the other woodland animal friends play games and have snacks. When they get tired they all settle down but Chester is nervous and homesick.

This is part of a series of Chester picture books but is the first one that we've read from the series. The story can definitely be read as a stand-alone. MY 6 year old enjoyed it and liked that the little skunk friend kept making "Stinky puffs". The overall message of the story was good about enjoying yourself with friends but that it is also okay to admit that you are homesick. This is a cute picture book for pre-school through elementary aged kids.

We all fell in love with Chester Raccoon back when his mama taught him about the Kissing Hand. So I'm so glad to see that he has kept on with new adventures!

In this one, Chester is joining his friends for his very first sleepover. They have tons of fun as they frolic all day long and eat fun snacks. But when it's time to go to sleep, Chester starts to miss his home, in spite of having Mama's Kissing Hand. And so he ends up going home where he feels more secure, but was still grateful for having such a fun time with his friends.

I think a lot of kids are going to relate to this story. Sleepovers seem to start at a much younger age than I remember doing them, and especially for younger kids, it's scary to sleep at someone else's house. But this book, just like the original Kissing Hand, can remind them that it's okay to have their fears and anxieties and they can always go home and back to Mom.

The drawings and all of the other characters are just as sweet as they were in the first book. I would definitely want to add this to my collection.

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for providing me with a requested review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Chester Raccoon is going for his very first sleepover. Chester’s friends are super cute. Myself and my daughter loved Sassafras Skunk! They were our favorite character out of them all and made us laugh every time. After a long day of fun Chester can't get to sleep like the other animals. He decides to go home and his mother is happy to have him back. A very sweet and funny story with a great message. It is great for children to learn about sleepovers before they go to there first one. The illustrations are beautiful. I recommend to anyone with little ones. You won't want to miss this one!

Chester is going to his very first sleepover. He's nervous at first, but quickly starts to have fun with his friends. The story is cute, but not as amazing as 'the kissing hand'.

This was such a adorable read. It has lovely illustrations, that really capture the fun and the message the books is sending. It is a fun story about the first time Chester is away from home, which we all know is hard for little ones. It shares the fun he has and the moment he is ready to be with mummy again, all of which is adorable, and shows children there is nothing to worry about with being away for the day, in a safe place. We loved this book!

He has fun with his friends doing all kinds of games but when it's time to to go sleep, he realizes he misses his mom, brother and home too much. This is a cute story for preschool to elementary aged kids who are nervous about staying somewhere other than home .I enjoyed the illustrations as well as the story itself.

Chester Raccoon and the Almost Perfect Sleepover is a great resource for normalizing children's anxieties about spending time away from home. The story has a nice balance of trying something new and slightly nerve-wracking, as well as knowing when the challenge is too big and comfort is needed. As a parent, this would be a great story to share with young children to open a conversation about empathy for others and taking perspective. For a child, Chester is very relatable and shows that one can take little steps towards big adventures.

The illustrations were beautiful in this book and covered the entire page. I love how there was a reference to the author’s other book, The Kissing Hand. This was a very sweet story about what Chester did with his friends at the Overday. My favourite character is the skunk that keeps stinking up the area. I have a soft spot for skunks. At the end of the book there was a cute poem about Chester’s Overday. This would be a good book for young children who are about to experience their first sleep-over or are about to spend the day with their friends.

Thanks to NetGalley and Tanglewood Publishing for this free ARC in return for an honest review. I really enjoyed this little book about the fears and joys of Chester Raccoon spending his first "overday" with friends. It is designed to help kids overcome their fear of their first overnight visit with friends, and I think it succeeds very well. Very good illustrations and a good story of Chester and all his friends.. They have fun together and my favorite is the little skunk who emits a "stinky puff" every time she is nervous, giggles or is tired. Cute book, and shows there is no wrong way to end such a fun day, even if Chester feels better curling up with his mom at the end of the day.

I love Racoons, so show me a children’s book that has raccoons in it, and I’m in! My son and I loved this story.
