Raging Storm is book two in the Remnant Series. I definitely recommend reading book one, Deep Shadows, as it sets up the devastating situation that these characters find themselves in and gives a lot of good background information that helps the reader understand what Max, Shelby, Carter, and all of the characters in this novel are facing.

I absolutely loved Deep Shadows, yet I loved Raging Storm even more! I really appreciated that the novel covered not only the journey to Austin that Max, Shelby, and their friends were on, but also kept tabs on what was going on with Shelby’s son, Carter, back at High Fields. Both storylines were equally fascinating to me.

The author did a great job of showing the way society had broken down. The characters found themselves in multiple precarious situations, yet despair was balanced with moments of hope. Although many dangerous encounters ocurred, there were pockets of good people out there. I could easily visualize the distruction and chaos that was the new reality.

This story left me VERY, VERY anxious to know what happens next! I highly recommed Raging Storm and the entire series to those who enjoy dystopian novels.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Raging Storm is the second book in the Remnant series. I think there is enough information that you could read this a stand alone and not feel completely lost; however, you would be missing some of the details. Since there are only two books, it would be better to start with the first.

This book picks up where the first one left off, and I am thoroughly enjoying the story so far. Although, as soon as I wrote that, "I enjoyed the book”, I thought it would be quite a nightmare to live in a world with so much chaos. Imagine for one minute what it would be like if I a solar flare caused the cars to stop working and electricity to be a thing of the past. Something like this could happen, and I’m not sure I could ever be prepared for that. The author did an excellent job of immersing me in that world, and I feel that so much of what she wrote would be our reality.

This is a Christian novel, so the book is devoid of the typical sex scenes and cursing that so many authors like to add these day. I have to say, I appreciate that. I’d rather read a clean book like this.

I highly recommend this series.

Wow, if there was ever a book that left me wanting and needing more it was this book. It goes beyond just a common great book and sets the bar for christian fiction this year. The intensity of the situation and the characters that win you over. Seriously, I have been going through book with-drawls from not having more, and I want more! It has been years since a book did that to me.

I loved this book. I hope that what happens in this book never happens in real life but I know that it could. This really shows what people will be like during such a crisis. It is hard to envision but from what has happened over the last few years when only a small tragedy occurs it really isn't. I loved the characters and hope they all survive in the next installment. It is going to be hard to wait for book three. I received a copy of this book from Harvest House Publishers for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Thoughts:

Inside RAGING STORM (The Remnant Book 2) by Vannetta Chapman, we are deeper into the future without everything we have today. This grim take off on our dependence on technology, electricity, and running water will make us view our current standard of living as soft and pampered!

Again, we must ask ourselves would anything like this become our catastrophic ending, and how would we survive?

Life inside contemporary, Texas without air conditioning, telephone, medical supplies, medications, and groceries is not only bleak but also dangerous. Without access to emergency services crime doesn't spike, it soars out of control while fires and explosions take lives and ravage neighborhoods, towns, and cities. The creature comforts of the recent past feel like a light-year away in this time warped future, but the worst is yet to come.

Shelby Sparks has one son, and Carter Sparks is an insulin-dependent diabetic. Without it, Carter can't survive. He has enough for this month. What will he do for next month and the one after that? There is no drug manufacturer to contact and no future supply to arrive.

With the help of Max Berkman and a few friends, Shelby tries to get to Austin, Texas. However, the fuel for this trip is as hard to get as gold while the streets, highways, and bridges are littered with abandoned vehicles, walking wounded, anarchists, and criminals. Worse could not even happen until they begin to wonder if they can trust each other as things start to deteriorate even more.

Someone may not be the person you believe him or her to be while others may not always be trustworthy. Instincts are not always correct and logic does not always follow a path. Few stereotypical depictions will show the faults of others, but sometimes, the main surprise is the expectation.

When a government is not always out to help you, the Remnant will still be there.

***This opinion is my own.***

RAGING STORM (The Remnant Book 2) by Vannetta Chapman overlays the solar flare destruction of our grid with lawlessness, anarchy, coup attempts, and desperation that follows it all!

Shelby Sparks is safe with her son, Carter. However, for how long? Supplies will run low, and somehow they need to get more insulin for Carter or he will not survive. At a farm with Max Berkman, Shelby has the basics of food and a stream of water, but other items of the past are long gone. Staying hunkered down is not going to make insulin appear for the next month or the next year. Shelby needs to get into a city where a supply could be and the capital has the best chances of having one.

She with Max and friends move out of safety and into harm’s way not knowing what encounters lay ahead, but quickly, these folks realize the stabilization of a government is part of the past. The carnage, wreckage, and despair they encounter can not only shake faith and break a heart, but it could easily take the life of one they love.

Here they come to face situations inside Austin, Texas of life and death to learn that America isn’t the only one in chaos. This is a world event, and what they came for seems like no more than a dream turning nightmare.

When it becomes clear whom they can trust and whom they must break away from, it will be a do or die endeavor!

Now, we wonder, is this to be our future?

Let me start off saying you need to read this series in order (Overshadowed, Deep Shadows and then Raging Storm) to understand and grasp what is happening.

This is the best dystopian series I have read to date and that says a lot considering I love the Hunger Games series. Chapman incorporates Christianity into the novels without overpowering the reader. She makes you think while you are reading and take notice of what is happening in the real world. Could this really happen and am I prepared in any way to survive even 24 hours?

I read this book in less than 24 hours because I could not wait to find out what happens. Now I am anxiously biting my nails for the third book to be released. Well, I hope there is a third book. I have to know what happens to everyone. I don't want to say too much and give anything away.

If you aren't sure you like dystopian fiction give this series a try, you may surprise yourself.

Thank you to Harvest House Publishers and NetGalley for a free copy to read for my honest review.

Good follow-up to the first book. I enjoyed the plot, but found the main character annoying. The huge cliffhanger has me dying to know what's gonna happen in the next book.

Raging Storm by Vannetta Chapman is a book I have been waiting impatiently to read. This offering was every bit as orbiting as the forest book in the series.

Raging Storm by Vannetta Chapman is the second book in The Remnant series. Shelby Sparks and her son, Carter have relocated with Max Berkman to High Fields. High Fields is the farm belonging to Gloria and Roy Berkman, Max’s parents. With the destruction of the Sparks home and the problems Abney is encountering, it made sense to relocate. But Shelby does not plan on staying at the farm for long. She needs to get to Austin to find more insulin for Carter. Shelby’s first priority is taking care of her son and he needs the insulin to survive. Max, of course, will not let Shelby go alone (he loves Shelby and wants to protect her). The two of them set off for Austin, but encounter a problem when they reach Abney. Nadine Perkins, the mayor, wishes them to find medicine for the town. They are in desperate need of antibiotics and other medications. Mayor Perkins insists that they take Dr. Farhan Bhatti with them. He knows Austin and the medications needed. Shelby resents the delay, and she distrusts Dr. Bhatti, but the mayor is leaving them with no choice. Patrick Goodnight and Bianca Lopez will be joining them on the perilous journey to Austin. Bianca and Patrick will follow in a second vehicle and provide backup in case they encounter trouble along the way. This group was not prepared for what they encounter in Austin. Will Shelby be able to find the insulin she so desperately needs for her son? Will this group be able to get out of Austin and back home?

Raging Storm picks up where Deep Shadows left off. Raging Storm is even better than the first book. This book is well-written and engaging. I was immediately drawn in and kept reading until I finished the story. The novel has a good pace which makes it a pleasure to read. I give Raging Storm 4.5 out of 5 stars (I really liked it). The only sour note was Shelby. I had trouble liking her in Deep Shadows, and I found her discourteous in the first half of this novel. Shelby is impatient (dislikes every delay in their journey) and is only thinking about her objective for the journey (I understand her concern, and I have issues with patience myself). However, Shelby does change over the course of the story and improves in the second half of the book. I think that Vannetta Chapman did a remarkable job at depicting what life would be like if we experienced a disaster. We would like to think that people would help each other out and come together as a community. But it is not realistic. Many people would be looking out for themselves and trying to find ways to profit from the disaster (you know I am being realistic). I liked how Ms. Chapman tied Raging Storm back to Overshadowed. Readers finally get to find out about The Remnant and how it connects to the story. I am curious to see what will happen in the next book in The Remnant series. Raging Storm is not a stand-alone novel. You do need to read Overshadowed and Deep Shadows prior to Raging Storm.

Raging Storm is second in the Remnant series. I started this book and could not put it down. There is something constantly going on. Shelby is on a mission to find insulin for her diabetic son. He currently has some but his supply will run out soon and there is none locally so she must travel to Austin Texas to find some but she is not alone. She travels with four other friends. Along the way their lives are in constant jeopardy. It is a fight for survival. The world has changed and Shelby and her group find they must do things that no human should have to do in a lifetime. Along the way they meet new friends, people of the remnant who help them in their journey. There are some twists in the story but I don't want to give too much of the story away. The story left the reader with a cliff hanger. I can't wait to read the next story in the series to find out what happens. This book was a clean read with no sexual situations but there is a some violence.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harvest House Publishers for providing me a digital copy of this book to read and review. Raging Storm is available to purchase on February 1, 2017.

I picked this series up in the middle(?) I think. Anyway, this isn’t the first book in the series and it’s not the last as far as I can tell. Unfortunately, it didn’t pull me in enough to make me interested in the other books.
It was clean. That was very refreshing. While there were a lot of deaths both violent and accidental, it wasn’t graphic. Well handled and what I would expect from a Christian action novel. That is the only reason it gets even two stars.
The story didn’t flow very well. It see-saws back and forth from violent action to philosophical discussions the latter happening at the most random times. Sometimes, it reads more like a critic of modern life than an adventure novel.
Perhaps I didn’t understand the character because I started in the middle, but I didn’t like the heroine. I think Chapman was trying to build suspense through her thoughts and actions, but, to me, the constant stressing of her moods just made her come off as an incredibly self-centered, impulsive, even whiny woman. The other characters were almost universally flat.
Much of it left me feeling confused. Things just happened. Good things or bad, there was no explanation. Even the situations or the people new to the story aren’t really explained. On top of that, a couple of ideas were repeated over and over to no real point. I got tired of the restating of the point of their mission.
It just didn’t work for me.
I received this as a free ARC from NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers. No review was necessary.

A solar flare has caused chaos. People are afraid. Medicine, food and other supplies are in short supply. With no electricity, how will people survive? Carter needs insulin and Shelby is determined to find the needed medicine for her son. This story takes the reader on the continuous journey of the pursuit of items needed to survive. The author gives such details that I felt as if I was right there along with the people in the story. Could this really happen? When you read this story, you will wonder and maybe even start to prepare. Excellent story. I received a copy of this story from the author and Net Galley. This is my personal honest opinion of the story.

RAGING STORM by Vannetta Chapman, the second in her series Remnants. It is another apocalyptic novels continuing with the first book in series. All modern technology has been wiped out across the globe. Shelby and her teen son Carter, live in Abney, Texas, which has been thrown into chaos. They found refuge, but she needs to go to Auston. for her son is a diabetic. With help of a high school sweetheart Max they attempt. They leave Carter, though he tried to persuade them, to take him. The global disaster and lawlessness was hard to see. Would they make it thru and at what cost. A good apocalyptic novel, that leaves you wanting the next book. Given ARC by Net Galley for my voluntary review and honest opinion.

Once you turn that first page and get your bearings, remembering the first book Deep Shadows and the solar flare that put us where we are today.
I felt like I was reading a movie and I was one of the participants, and there were bullets whizzing past my head, and found myself ducking. Can you imagine even where you live; no more power and nothing with computer chips working? How would you survive, do we have the skills to, and found myself questioning my abilities, I do live in the country and have acreage, and a pond with fish. While you think about surviving the author reminds us that there is someone out there that wants all that you have even if they don’t need it, and will use all means to take it. There is no law, and the false profits have arisen in abundance, who to trust.
I have one big complaint, I was reading along and page turning, when boom, it was like I fell off a cliff, and I tried to turn another page, but there wasn’t anymore, now I am bidding my time for the next book, which can’t come fast enough.
I received this book through Net Galley, the Author, and the Publisher Harvest House, and was not required to give a positive review.
