Silver Edge is the first book I read by Ciara Knight. I was excited to read a book from a new author that I’ve meant to read.
Female Protagonist: Scarlett is a heroine who has had a troubled life. Her mom passed away when Scarlett was young. She’s been in and out of foster homes, and she’s a former drug and sex addict. Her one true friend, Ton, helped her get back on her feet. She has Asperger’s, which makes it difficult for her to communicate with others.
Male Protagonist: Drake is a business owner, but not by choice. His family passed away, and his brother left him the club called Bands. He’s known to be a player who only does one-night-stands. He doesn’t want the responsibility of a club/bar until he meets Scarlett.
My Thoughts: I was intrigued by the story’s synopsis, which is why I picked it up to read it. Unfortunately, I didn’t fall in love with this book. It was disappointing because the storyline was promising. The idea of the heroine who has gone through so much overcoming everything by proving to herself and everyone she can find her way. Unfortunately, I couldn’t connect with Scarlett or Drake. I think it’s due to their relationship coming off as rushed. I did like how they both had troubled pasts and presents, and they were helping each other in their ways. Don’t even get me started with the ex-girlfriend drama. I could not stand the ex-girlfriend (or Barbie that Scarlett called her.) There was also the issue of repetition in the story from both characters.
I did like how Ciara Knight wrote Scarlett’s character with Asperger’s syndrome. I’ve only read a handful of books that had characters with Asperger’s syndrome. She also wrote a character, like Drake, who was able to approach Scarlett since she didn’t like touch and couldn’t communicate. Scarlett even states a few times in the book that she doesn’t know if she’s expressing the right way.
If this book would’ve been written from multiple points of view, I may have liked it better. I could have gotten Drakes’s feelings too. I’m disappointed that I was not too fond of the book.
I will be trying Ciara Knight’s other books soon. I know I have several on my kindle that I’ve purchased that I need to read. This book may not be a favorite, but I know I will find a book that I will love from Ciara Knight.
Steaminess: Mild.
HEA: It feels more like a HFN. (Happy for Now.)
Trope: Opposite’s Attract, Instant Love (for hero)
Would I recommend this book? I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading New Adult written from the first point of view. Some triggers in this book involve drugs, addiction, violence, rape, and death, which may be some issues to readers.
I liked this book. It was really well writen and had a good paced story and characters.
I really enjoyed reading it. And found myself not even wanting to put it down at times.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ A for sure 4 star read for me ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This story will really grab your heart strings. It is an emotional tailspin with very raw emotions. Drake and Scarlett are two tortured individuals who in a way help each other through their tribulations. Scarlet has mental issues. She lost her mother to death, was passed around in foster homes and abused. Needless to say she has some serious issues and used drugs as a way to cope. Drake lost every one he loved and was dead inside before Scarlett. Will these two heal each other's pain? You are Caught up in this story right from the start and the ending floored me? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Scarlet is not like other girls, she has some problems that she has to work through. Scarlet does not like loud noises, bright lights or anyone touching her. Scarlet is running from her past as well. She is trying so hard to escape her past demons and make something of her like now. When she wanders into a new nightclub, there is just something different about this place. Scarlet actually feels like she can handle being in this club without needing to run away. Not to mention there is a hot nightclub owner that has entered the scene as well.
Drake owns this nightclub and not bad to look at either. Drake has his fair share of ghosts from the past and not to mention that his nightclub in in danger of being shut down. What will Scarlet do then if she has no where to go and escape her demons? She has to come up with a way to help Drake save the nightclub.
The chemistry between Drake and Scarlet is scorching. They don't have a love at first sight relationship but they have definitely developed something special between the two of them. Scarlet ends up being the strong one for Drake while they are trying to deal with all the nightclub stuff. I was so impressed with how Scarlet was able to put aside her own weaknesses/fears and be strong for Drake.
I thought this read was really good until about the last 10 or 11%. Something about the ending just felt rushed and thrown together. Although Scarlet and Drake get their HEA, I just felt that it missed something. The rest of the story was point on though. I am curious to what Ciara Knight will have in store for us in the next Straight Edge book.
This was a first read for me by this author and man did I like it! This is the story of Scarlet and Drake. Drake is a nightclub owner that is slowly losing money but he loves that place and wont give it up without a fight. Scarlet our hero in this story, is going through a lot. In and out of foster homes and unable to withstand touch, she is dealing with a wealth of emotions that are hard to control but she is determined, really determined to make it this time. I found her strength to be resilient and the I won't fall back into that mess attitude, awesome. I rooted for her all throughout this story. Drake was the perfect hero for her, patient and loving at all the right moments. He knew not to push her and understood her in so many ways. I loved how they worked together. This was an enjoyable read.
On average, I read 200 books a year. Silver Edge is by far one of my favorite books. Such a unique heroine and awesomely written! Scarlet has issues with touch, light and sound. After drugs and sex, she is sober and trying to make it in the world on her own. When she finds the club, Bands, she realizes she has found her sanctuary. Music calms her. Drake is the owner and is drawn to Scarlet. I LOVE how caring and patient he is with Scarlet. I can't gush enough about how much I loved this book. Despite no sex, there is sexual tension throughout and the bantering between everyone is wonderful. Such an great book!
Silver Edge gives a unique perspective, and I really appreciate that. Scarlet is a young woman with issues and a particular condition that made her take drugs and engage in risky, promiscuous sex. But, now she's sober and determined to make it in society on her own. So she runs from Ton, her rescuer and savior, and goes to the job he had helped her get. It's there that she meets Drake, a sexy guy with a good heart. It's Drake with whom she will eventually fall in love, the man who helps calm the anxious parts of her mind and soul.
I have to say that some of the tangents that both Scarlet and Drake go off on took me out of their story a bit, but I also think that those tangents were part of their unique characters, so I can't begrudge Ciara for including them. I really felt their connection, and appreciate it. I like the slow burn of their journey, and how they took their time getting to know each other.
I think my favorite part of Silver Edge is Drake, he's the ultimate hero: he's kind, sexy, and has a big heart even though he's working through his own set of problems. He is so patient and understanding with Scarlet, and helps her so much. Scarlet was a little harder to like, but I respect her for all that she's gone through and fought to get past. She's pretty remarkable in her own way, too.
About the only thing I didn't like about Silver Edge is the abrupt, rushed ending. An epilogue would have helped enormously to fix this problem.
I wasn’t overly sure what I was going to get when I started to read Scarlet Edge. I’ve never read work from this author before, and I wasn’t sure what kind of nightclub Drake ran. Are we talking your typical drinks and DJ or are we talking about something a bit more on the darker side? As it turns out, Drake’s club is your typical nightclub with booze and tunes. Which I found to be a bit confusing. I mean, Scarlet has Asperger’s and can’t handle bright lights, loud noises, various smells, or being touched, and yet she does well in the club. A place that while dark, has loud music, people cramped so close you touch, and all kinds of funky smells. I just don’t understand the hows and whys behind Scarlet being okay at a nightclub but not being okay at a small diner.
Speaking of Scarlet, I found her character to be rather interesting. I mean, she’s not your typical nineteen year old. Her sense of fight or flight is to the extreme, her Asperger’s makes her extremely uncomfortable around people she doesn’t know, and she battles drug addiction. Add onto the crappy foster homes she’s lived in, her time on the streets, and all that she had to endure just to make it to the ripe young age of nineteen. Yeah, Scarlet was not your average angst-filled teen. Given the fact that the story is told in her POV, you get a lot of behind-the-scenes thoughts that run through her head throughout the book. I thought the author did a great job with trying to portray all the conflicting thoughts that ran through Scarlet’s head. Between wanting to get high to escape but not wanting to give up her sobriety, to wanting to be touched by Drake but loathing the way being touched usually feels like bugs crawling out of her skin, I felt like the author was really able to capture her internal turmoil.
Drake’s character left me confused though. Maybe it was the love at first sight thing but here’s a guy who was with someone one minute, and then the next is hovering all over Scarlet, someone he’d JUST met. And I don’t mean hovering in the sense of it being sexual but more like a protective nurturing hovering. I just felt like either time jumped ahead too fast in the story line or Drake was a little too over the top when it came to his feelings for Scarlet. I just wish their romance was slowed down a bit and it wasn’t so dramatic with wants, needs, and declarations of love.
Straight Edge is an interesting story about a girl who’s gone through so much and struggles with herself on a daily basis, who’s able to overcome it and rise above it when she meets her other half. I liked that the author took a risk with writing this story. Writing about someone with a disability or condition can’t be easy. I do wish the romance was slowed way down and wasn’t such an instant reaction that seemed to almost solve everything. I think if I had more time with Scarlet and Drake before all the feels came into play I would have connected with them and their story a bit more
This one is a fantastic beginning if it is for this series with the meaning explained perfectly in book. Plenty of characters to surround you with a story that is refreshing because it is different. Ton lets Scarlet get out on her own but reasons will be revealed down the road. You will find she is the most intriguing female in ages that will capture you immediately. She is more than a survivor also with putting a Cheshire grin on a face when she gets into the club called Bands. As you see her in action she has you now like putty in hands and away you go on her adventure. Drake will also find her like no one else but a bit like his brother was but unique all the same. You will love every mark in time as they build on the relationship like no other. Walls and bumps will have you on edge but faith will be on her side. By the time you get to the finish you will be cheering from the sidelines as if you are there too. This will put you over the edge as a fantastic read.
Ciara Knight is an author’s name I had seen but had never had the pleasure of reading one of her books. I also had associated her with small town romance. Boy was I misguided, she can sure write romance with anyone who are anywhere. It is listed as a Straight Edge Novel but read fine on its own. I would read more by this author who gives the reader such realistic unique characters. It is not your usual romance, definitely original.
Silver Edge has characters who don’t give up on life or each other, in spite of some difficult life struggles. The story line flows briskly with a rapid finish. Because of that I hope to see more of Drake and Scarlet in a future story. These are characters that hold your interest, making it a character driven story.
Silver Edge by Ciara Knight is Book 1 of the Straight Edge Series.
This is a wonderful start for a new series. It is an amazing and gripping read. Absolutely loved this book...so realistic, and the feels...wow the feels. Ms. Knight has done it again with this story...highly recommended.

This is the first book I have read by Ciara Knight, and I really enjoyed it! It's not just a romance but has a unique story about two tortured souls. Who are lost in the world but find each-other and find solace in one another. Both are damaged, but Scarlett and Drake don't try help fix each-other. That's what I really liked, in most books the hero of the story fixes the girl who has a past she would rather forget.
This book is different from books I normally read, and I'm glad I took the leap.
I can't recommend this book enough.
All right! This will be a short and a maybe a little bit sweet rant? LOL.
Silver Edge's blurb was so enthralling. The touch thing got me all excited and shit so I requested it.
Even though, I do believe the storyline was unique and that the book had a lot of potential, the heroine or, rather, the way the author made her succumb to the hero's touch so easily, kinda ruined the book for me. That and the heroine's "I can take care of myself" bullshit got on my nerves. The hero was this incredible man that not only was sexy but he also understood and respect her needs and she was babbling that shit every 10 seconds, girl, I got it but c'mon he wanted to take care of you, damn it!
The 3 STARS goes entirely to Drake and the plot because they fucking deserve it. Thats all. Sorry but it just didn't work for me.
This was the first book I've read by Ms. Knight and I loved it! Total different story than I am used to and it totally keep me interested. Once I started the book I was unable to put it down. Drake a guy who has lost his family and wants to make them proud of his accomplishments vs just enjoying life for a change runs a club in Atlanta that was his brother's. But realizes he has not been putting his full effort into it and is now in trouble of losing it.
Scarlet a girl who has many issues in life is just looking for a home and a job to take care of herself. When she leaves New York to try and accomplish that she ends up on Drake's doorstep by accident. When she proves herself to him as a worker and shows him what this club can accomplish they are both excited. Scarlet is a different person than most with her adversions to things most people never think of. The story line is done perfect and the chemisty is off the charts. Look forward to more of Ms. Knight's work. Honest review in exchange for ARC.
I loved the unique storyline in Silver Edge. Readers get the hot romance, great storyline, hot alpha lead and amazing heroine with a strong emotional connection and hot chemistry.
The best part of this book was Drake. Hands down he was an incredible hero who not only was sexy but he understood and respected the needs of the heroine. He never made her feel like she was less of a person or someone who was a burden with a disability. It was heartwarming and sexy. I also loved Scarlett's strength. Here was a woman who had no quit in her. She was so tough and resilient. It was a fabulous and admirable trait and proved that she was a fantastic match for Drake.
While I did feel the ending was rushed, all in all, this was a great story and I look forward to more from this author in the future. I would like to thank NetGalley and Entangled Publishing LLC for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. 3.5 stars ~Ratula
This novel was thoroughly satisfying. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to everyone.. it really does a great job of keeping the audience interested in the novel while taking them on an adventure. A must read.. See for yourself , you may just love it as much as me.
I liked this book! The lady hero was unique and had much about her to like and the Hero was Sexy as Hell!!
I've professed my love for differently-abled MCs before, and Scarlet, who suffers from Aspergers, was a wonderful addition to the 'more than normal' character-set I've been collecting. The way Knight portrays her issues and differences was very sympathetic and realistic, and giving her the gift of Drake was a wonderful thing to do. I don't think I've read any of Knight's work before, but I'll definitely be looking out for it if the rest is anything like this. A real love story, and a tale of human kindness and winning over adversity, without being sappy and fluffy.
