This is one of my favorite authors. If you haven’t ready any of her books, you are truly missing out. Get on it, people!! This is the second book of her Renegades series and it can be read as a stand alone. I will say you will definitely get more out of the story line if you read the first book, “Wilder,” before you start into this one.
This is Landon Rhodes (AKA Casanova, or Nova for short) and Rachel’s story. Definitely a second chance romance story and I’m a bit of a sucker for those as I lived my own. Not quite as emotional and crazy as these two, though. I really wanted to hate Nova. And actually, I did hate Nova. But my heart hurt for Landon. He made a mistake as an 18 year old kid and had no idea how to live with the consequences of that mistaken decision. So he does what most 18 year old guys do and drowns his emotions in alcohol and meaningless sex. Thanks to his best friend, and fellow Renegade Paxton Wilder, he’s given a chance to make it right. Like all young men, he kind of screws up again here and there in the name of making it right. But, eventually he gets there.
Rachel has her own, separate, drama that also runs parallel with the drama with Landon. The twist at the end of this part of the story was one I didn’t see coming. But it’s weaved into the main conflict very well and kept me guessing the entire time. I kind of like being surprised like that. But I kind of wanted to smack her dad for not being more forgiving, considering his own mistake.
The book is very well written and the characters believable and relatable. Honestly, I loved it and give it 5 out of 5 stars. Landon and Wilder are definitely swoon-worthy, but they are no Josh Walker! Sorry, Rebecca! He’s still my favorite! (See Rebecca Yarros’ “Full Measures” to understand the awesomeness that is fly boy, Josh Walker!!)
And I thought Wilder was great. This is the second in the series and a new top fav for me. Ah-maz-zing! We knew Landon’s (aka Nova, short for Casanova) moment was coming after the first book in the series. We’ve got our hawt X-games snowboarding guru hero who's currently involved in filming a documentary full of extreme stunts while participating in a study at sea program. He walked away from love two and a half years ago and has been on a non-stop sex marathon since. Then, enter the girl he left, Rachel, who’s stuck on this at sea program for another six months. Her plan was to ignore him, but he wants her forgiveness and to start over. Second chance love at its best. Highly recommend.
Thank you to the publisher for kindly providing an ARC for review.
Holy Landon and Rachel. Somehow, Rebecca has gone and reached new levels of storytelling. While, for me, she didn't TOP Pax and Leah's story, she definitely matched the level of intensity and all-encompassing emotion. I’ve come to a certain level of depth when it comes to the characters in her series and being let in on Nova’s back story is certainly a privilege. The heartbreak, the misunderstandings and unspoken words are everywhere. Rachel has so much to her that, I think, could probably fill another book of her own. That being said, we are not deprived of any character building when it comes to her, either. Exact opposite, actually. The dual point of view gives the reader the ability to see things through both Rachel and Nova’s eyes. Their story has a long, entangled history and an even more tumultuous present. The emotions are high, the chemistry is off the wall and, let’s be honest here, the steamy scenes are hottttt! A definitely must-read. I need more, Rebecca!! These Renegades are giving Flight & Glory a run for their money!!
People who are meant to be together find their way back. They may take a few detours, but they’re never lost.
I LOVE SECOND-CHANCE ROMANCES SOOO MUCH! These love stories are my absolute favorites!!! Soul mates who have always loved each other are granted a do-over…another chance. There is no greater love like second-chance love, this special love that finds its way back to two broken souls, this special love that summons the soul…MY SOUL. Second-chance romances speak to my soul like no other love story, and oh did Nova by Rebeca Yarros speak to mine. Nova, the spellbinding and spine-tingling second-chance romance, was my heart…my soul…MY KRYPTONITE.
This heart-pounding and heartwarming romance claimed my heart from the start. My heart caught fire, a slow burn seeping into my soul, as Nova bled into me…becoming me. My emotions were amplified as I was ON EDGE, entangled around every part of Nova as this soul-searing story embedded itself into every part of me. A fusion of hope, heartbreak, and happiness swirled around in my head like a tsunami waiting to collide. My feels flooded all over this book…ALL OVER ME.
These characters claimed me, captivated me, and catapulted me into their lives. I lived this dare-devil adventure through these compelling characters…through Nova. I wanted to free-fall off a cliff into the sea, climb the tallest mountains, and float away with The Renegades crew…with Nova.
Landon ‘Nova’ Rhodes with his dark blond hair, green-blue-hazel eyes, ink, and body of a Greek God is fast and furious, a dare devil who snowboards like he owns the mountains. This professional snowboarder collect X Games medals like they are candy, and oh is he melt-worthy! Landon may be Casanova to the women who he conquers like those tall mountains, but only one woman has conquered his heart, and will forever hold his heart in her hands: Rachel.
Rachel Dawson, beautiful and petite with dark hair and dark eyes, gave her heart away to who she thought was the love of her life, until he shattered it to smithereens and never looked back. Landon Rhodes, oh how she wished she could get the supernova out of her head and heart. When Rachel lands on the ship where The Renegades, the X-Games competitors, are filming, Landon is more determined than ever to reclaim the woman who has always been his.
Does she still hate me? I hope so. I deserved it. Lord knew I hated myself enough for the both of us. The problem with love was that once it was gone, there was no filing that hole, no substitute for that euphoria.
These words broke me…so hopeless and heartbreaking.
“You’re like a supernova – an explosion so bright no one can see past you.”
Now he was Casanova…and no longer mine.
I felt Rachel’s pain through the pages, oh was it heart-wrenching.
She could try to ignore me all she wanted, but somewhere under all that hatred and ice, she was still my Rachel….I just had to find a way to break through to her.
From beginning to end, oh did Landon POSSESS ME!!! This amazing alpha made me swoon and smolder. This man is pure perfection. Nova is PURE PERFECTION. I was owned by Landon. I WAS OWNED by Nova.
“You win this round. But I’ll win the war.”
My feels were at war, emotions rearing up to battle, as they threatened to explode…all over this soulful story…all over me.
“That Rachel – the silly eighteen-year-old you said was your infinity – you killed her.”
Those heart-wrenching words hit my heart hard, a sword to my chest, as I felt the hurt everywhere.
“I loved you. I broke myself…You and I are inevitable, no matter who we hurt – even if it’s each other.”
I broke as I bled for both the hero and the heroine. Two broken souls who should be one. I had to catch my tears as I willed them not to fall. Tears that teased the dam of waterworks waiting to burst from the words that clutched my soul, extracting every emotion. Beckoning me. Binding me. Becoming me.
“Rachel, don’t look at me like that.”
“Like what?”
“Like you used to.”
Swoon collided with soreness, hurt fused with hope. The pain turned into promise as I melted all over pages, warmth seeping into my heart that was bleeding. Words of sweetness and nostalgia kissed me where I felt butterflies dancing in my belly, a feeling of hope, happiness, and freedom fused with love.
His mouth find mine, and I was home.
“It didn’t mean anything. The kiss.”
“Maybe to you.”
“To you?”
“Everything.”
My heart was hit so hard, it spun right into my soul. These words SHOOK MY SOUL!!!
Rachel and Landon are each other's air. Each other's heart. Each other’s hope. Each other’s salvation. Rachel is almost ready to take that leap again, no longer caring if she falls for she knows that Landon will catch her and keep her this time.
In seconds she had rebuilt her walls that had taken me months to break down, and once again it was me who sliced her to the quick.
The painful past brings smoke, which causes Rachel and Landon to veer off course, possibly sending them into a collision where their rekindled love may crash and burn. Oh how these two broken hearts needed to be whole…one again.
“You’re it. You’ve always been it.”
This line is EVERYTHING!!!
This explosive, emotional, and epic second-chance love story is EVERYTHING!!! I was ENRAPTURED with Nova This story held my heart in its hands from the start…hijacking it…hijacking me. I LOVED NOVA SO MUCH!!!
Nova is devastatingly beautiful and perfectly poignant, an explosion of emotions that penetrate the heart and soul. Oh did Nova a penetrate me EVERYWHERE! I was a prisoner to these passionate pages that pounded that passion straight through me. I was broken. I was breathless. I was branded. I became everything Nova.
This spellbinding and spine-tingling story surged through me like lightning where its touch was felt everywhere. OH THE FEELS!!! My feels were free-falling through this story. I felt every word I read in Nova where I rode this roller coaster of a romance, the adrenaline and angst coursing through me like a rush of wind…fast and furiously. I FELT EVERYTHING.
Nova is not simply a broken and beautiful romance; it’s a story about LIFE AND LIVING. It’s about taking that LEAP OF FAITH...LIVING FOR THE MOMENT...LIVING LIFE NOW. Rebecca Yarros is one of my favorite authors because you can feel her emotions through her wondrous words. EVERY WORD MATTERS that Rebecca Yarros writes: magical, meaningful, sweet, spirited, and soulful…just like her.
Every day is a new beginning. A chance to love. A chance to live. A chance to dream. A chance to do! We live through our actions. We live through our memories. Sometimes we live through stories. I lived and loved through Nova where I went on the emotional adventure of a lifetime—one of hope, heartbreak, and happiness. Nova, this beautiful and broken love story, will stay with me…to infinity and beyond.
★★★★★★ infinity and beyond star
“I have always burned for you. I will always burn for you. You own me like no one ever has, or ever will.”
Looking for an escapist read that will enthrall you for a few hours? Then 'Nova' is for you. A fast-paced, YA story set in exotic locales all over the world, Landon and Rachel's story is fun, a little emotional, sexy and very enjoyable. Rebecca Yarros is a terrific writer and has created characters that seem very relatable and very real.
Landon and Rachel had a very intense love but he left her behind to go off in search of adventure with the Renegades. He does intense stunts all over the world and has fans everywhere he goes. Both Landon and Rachel are now on the same Study at Sea program, he is shocked but wants to do everything in his power to try and win her back.
They have fantastic chemistry but Rachel is broken-hearted. I loved these two together, the way Rachel stood up for herself was very refreshing and I enjoyed the globe-trotting aspect of this story. The deep friendships between all the characters form a big part of this book and I loved how supportive each friend was. This is a lovely second-chance romance with tons of action and sweet emotion thrown in the mix. And the cover! I love a sexy, eye-catching cover. It perfectly captures the spirit and the feel of Nova.
3.5 stars
I LOVED the first book in this series. So much. I was so excited for this one... but it fell a little flat for me. I was dying for Rachel and Landon's story. Maybe because Rachel is so much involved in the Renegades lived. She is the reason her best friend got on the ship. The reason she fell in love. Now she is the reason Landon can't think straight, because she is back.
Landon made a foolish mistake 4 years ago by letting Rachel go. Noe one knows the real reason why outside of the Renegades. He has lived with this huge mistake for years. He knows Rachel was the one and never got over her. Now thanks to his best friend, she is back and he is getting his second chance.
The first part of the book was a little slow for me. We get Rachel is mad and doesn't want to listen to Landon. But it was repeated over and over. It was just too much for this reader. At times, I was hoping Landon would move on because Rachel was being a witch.
I love this series, but I envisioned this book going a different way. Everyone seems to have Rachel on a pedestal. I am not sure why. She is not worthy.
4.5 "I Belong To You" Stars!
Landon Rhodes aka Nova is a gorgeous 22 yr. old guy who's a professional snowboarder that's all about speed, adrenaline & the rush. He's an extreme sports junkie & a four times X Games medalist. He's part of a team called the Renegades that are like family to him. They are currently filming a documentary while on a Study at Sea program on the cruise ship the Athena. They perform stunts for their You Tube subscribers & are all over social media.
Landon is especially reckless since he made the difficult decision to walk away from the love of his life about two and a half years ago. He screwed up his only chance at love, & now only has endless hook ups. Nothing could fill the hole in his soul, but sex seemed to momentarily dull the pain. He was forever haunted by her memory & what could have been. She was still all he could think about. Then suddenly he see's her, and it feels like he can finally breathe again.
Rachel Dawson is stuck on a Study at Sea program for the next six months with the only guy she's ever loved. The one she gave up everything for & then he broke her heart. When she was eighteen he didn't choose her, & made her feel she wasn't good enough. He abandoned her & it destroyed her. She won't be vulnerable again, or let him close enough to hurt her. Her plan is to ignore him & avoid him, but it's easier said than done when he's everywhere she turns.
Landon wants a second chance with Rachel. He wanted her to forgive his stupid mistakes & was determined to win her heart again. He sets out to prove to her he's not going anywhere this time, & she's his top priority. He wants a fresh start & is prepared to be patient. He makes it his mission to remind her how good they are together. Soon Rachel can't resist him or deny her feelings any longer. Things heat up between them and we get some angst, seriously delicious moments and a beautiful love story.
Shel: If you're new to this series one of the stand out features that drew me in, and keeps me reading, is that Yarros set it on a student study abroad cruise ship. So not only does that allow for the characters to go to really cool and interesting places to add additional conflict or to set a mood, it also creates the additional element of having her characters stuck on a ship together--there's no escape if there's an issue and lots of time to make the issue worse or better. BRILLIANT, right? Court: So brilliant. The settings though add so much to this story, and really adds so much love for her writing because they are such a huge part of the story. The most exotic places in the world are the perfect setting for the most extreme people to do the most extreme things. It was really exhilarating to read about the jumps that they pull off, and their stunts made my heart race. Uhhhh! It was so much more than I ever hoped for, this book!
Shel: In this second book in the series, Nova, we get to the bottom of the Landon/Nova and Rachel relationship we were introduced to in Wilder. We find out what really happened in their past and keep turning pages to see if can they move past it. As you can see this sets up for revelations, backstory on all of the Renegades, and also the whole will-they-have-a- second-chance-to-be-together-or-not scenario? Here's what I'll tell you--Yarros gives Rachel a most stubborn demeanor--one that many find frustrating (because sometimes it is frustrating). That being said, I actually like her stubborn nature because I can relate to it--I can imagine I'd be equally reticent and protective of my heart if someone destroyed it the way Landon did. Even when I found Rachel unrelenting and hard, I knew that I'd be the same way, if I found myself in a similar situation. Court: I was frustrated at first by her unwillingness to give him a chance...but then the more you delve into it...and think about it, I can agree that we'd act the exact same way. The scenes were hard to read sometimes because it would be brutal to see the one guy you'd loved and lost surrounded by beautiful women all day fawning over him. That would be even more brutal that the thought that maybe he'd love you again! But, Yarros made it a believable ride and everything happened in its due time, so the plot wasn't rushed even though I was wishing it was. I was a little impatient, but there was so much more to learn from these two!
Shel: I also liked that Yarros gave us a Landon who was equally stubborn when it came to what he wanted. Kudos to him for knowing exactly how to attack the problems he created. I really liked these two together. Were they maddening at times? Yes. But I liked the tension. Court: I loved him for the Landon (Nova) combo. I love these boys nicknames. I love the world that has been created here, and really wish it was my current reality! They definitely don't know how to lose, and I think that makes them so much more in terms of book boyfriend territory because they don't face a single thing without thinking they'll be the best, or win however they can.
A
Shel: What I hope to know more about as the series progresses is how this group will move forward--will they be successful in what they're working on? Will Penna be able to overcome her issues to rejoin them? Will Nova get another shot at his big moment? And will Zoe ever stop being so...Zoe? I'm eager to see where the cruise takes us next and how they're going to make their hopes and dreams come true. Court: MMMEEEE TOOOO! Is it weird that even though she isn't an original, that I want Zoe to get her happy ending too...and read all about it? I am so nervous for Penna. I don't know what is going to happen next, and I just CANNOT WAIT TO GET BACK ON THE ATHENA!
6 STARS! I can’t get enough of the Renegades!
This series is quickly becoming one of my favorite romance series of all time. The way that Rebecca Yarros writes. She writes in such vivid detail, it’s like I’m right there with the characters. I’m on the ship with them and what’s even better is that I’m doing the stunts right along with them as well. It’s incredible. You can tell how her research has been so in depth; everything is just right.
The Renegades, follows a group of daredevils while they are studying abroad on a “At Sea” type of program. I loved this concept from the beginning and absolutely loved book one, Wilder. Here in book 2, Nova, aka Landon, gets his story. I’m a sucker for second chance romances. Add some adrenaline causing drama and extreme stunts and I’m a complete goner.
Logan is a 4 time X-Games medalist who is a self-admitted adrenaline junkie. He likes to push every physical limit. Rachel is feisty, beautiful, and can be very sweet but don’t mess with her. She can stand up and hang with the boys when needed. Landon hurt her extremely badly in the past, so much so spectators have resorted to calling her his curse. After some trickery from other members of the Renegades, Rachel is on board the ship and stuck with Landon for the next six months. Unable to avoid it any longer, they must work together to confront their past so they both can live their lives to the fullest.
This story was so well put together, the angst was perfect. Sometimes I get annoyed with the back and forth of the characters’ feelings and end up feeling like I have whiplash. With this story that never happened. The plot was extremely well thought out and I didn’t have any unanswered questions or worries.
I absolutely can’t wait for Rebel’s book! She’s been through so much and I can’t wait for her story!
Note: While you can read Nova as a stand-alone, I highly recommend starting with Wilder in order to be completely immersed in this world. Trust me, you’re not going to want to miss it.
I love this author. I love her writing, her well developed characters, her attention to detail and her thorough research. I also love how she never stops surprising me with the twists and turns of her stories. I also have to say, again, that she writes the swooniest heroes. You know that although flawed, when it comes to romance and being in love, her heroes are hands down the best of the best. And Landon (Nova) is no exception, this man is capital letters SWOONY!
Nova is book 2 in The Renegades series, which follows a team of daredevils while they're studying abroad in a Semester at Sea type of program. I freaking love the concept of the series and as you know I loved Wilder (Book 2).
I have to say that Nova is not as exciting as Wilder. It's a second chance romance, there's a heavy history between the main characters and so the book has a more serious tone. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it a lot.
"Yeah, she’d been an eight. Problem was I wanted an eleven, and I only knew of one in the entire fucking world. One with hair blacker than night, a tight, toned body that had fit mine to a T, and almond-shaped chocolate eyes that made me forget my name, but never hers."
So Landon aka Nova and Rachel have a lot of convoluted history. If you've read Wilder you know most of the story. If you haven't, you can still read this as a standalone. Years back Nova did something really stupid that broke Rachel's heart. Now they're together and forced to share the same space since Rachel is now part of the Semester at Sea program with her best friend Leah (the h of Book 1).
We find out pretty quick that Landon is totally not over Rachel and he wants her back. There's no wavering or hesitation. He wants her back and will pull all the stops to get her back.
"She was a puzzle I’d never figured out. She’d never bored me, always left me craving her, wanting more, and chasing her down. Given the physical reaction I’d had the minute I’d realized it was really her—the way my heart lurched toward hers like a damned magnet—it was safe to say that hadn’t changed."
But Rachel is a tough cookie. Even though she clearly loves Landon she was pretty hurt by what he did so she will give him a really tough time. Her struggle is real.
"Everything was familiar and yet new. His scent was the same, the undertones of his skin unchanged by whatever cologne still managed to cling to his clothing. His voice still slid over my nerves like silk, his eyes the same ever-changing hazel that held me captive. His hands cupped my face with the same tenderness while the strength in his arms had only grown. He was my Landon underneath all that Nova, only ten times more… everything."
So you know I love second chance romances, it's hands down my favorite trope. And I love this author a lot, but I had a really hard time connecting and understanding Rachel as the story went on. I understand she was in a lot of pain and that she was badly hurt by Nova, but her actions sometimes didn't match her thoughts. She does a lot of back and forth and plain refuses to listen like an adult, which makes her sound like a petulant child at times. She gave me serious whiplash. I felt like it dragged at parts. I was extremely frustrated by her, as was Nova.
"I was frustrated that she couldn’t just fucking talk to me like every other girl on the planet."
But Landon/Nova, he was everything. He made the book for me. He's sweet, he's patient, he cares so much and he grovels like no other. He's a man's man, all actions to match his talk. Swoony to the max!
"God, she’d tasted like summer days in the middle of January, like hope, and home, and everything I’d been searching for since the last time I’d kissed her."
“You’re it. You’ve always been it, and I don’t care if I have to prove it to you over the rest of this damn year—you’re the only girl I’m going to touch.”
“I’m not going anywhere. If I have to tell you that a million times before you’ll believe me, then I’ll do just that. You and me—we’re our own little infinity. Our forever is wrapped up in everything that’s between us.”
The romance is slow burning in this one because their backstory is super heavy but it definitely has some really hot moments. It's also extremely romantic as all Rebecca's books are. Definitely lots of feels!
“You chose me.”
“I always will.”
Overall, I liked this book a lot. Even though it has less action than Wilder, there were some pretty cool adventures I loved and some twists I never saw coming. And well Rebecca's writing is always beautiful. Next up is Penna and I can't wait! I'm dying to meet the guy that will steal the coolest Renegade's heart. Absolutely recommend Nova!
“There was never a moment that I didn’t love you. There will never be a moment that I don’t love you. You can love me or not, but that will never change the way I belong to you.”
While I loved getting back in the world of The Renegades, I didn't love Nova quite as much as Wilder. But don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the book. I really liked Landon (Nova) and getting more of Pax and Leah. I didn't really, totally, love Rachel. Half the time I did, but half the time, she just drove me nuts. She was really tough on Landon and I found myself rolling my eyes at times.
I loved that there was a whole new story full extream stunts and sports. The story never felt the same as Wilder...if that makes since. Yeah, there was crazy stunts, but I loved that it was all slightly different. And for someone, such as myself, who is terrified of roller coasters, this book let me pretend I wasn't. I'm really looking forward to Rebel, Penna's story.
I LOVE second chance romances but I’m not exactly a fan of them when the hero becomes a manwhore during the time he and the heroine are broken up. We previously met Landon, aka “Nova,” as Wilder’s best friend and a major player. We knew he was hurting from a past relationship and drowned himself in women to ease the pain, but when the truth comes out, it turns out that Landon was the one to break his heart and and the heart of the girl he loved. I went into Nova a little wary of Landon because I wasn’t sure he’d be able to redeem himself and his past mistakes. I was prepared for the angst and the groveling, and thankfully, Rebecca Yarros delivered just that. If you’re a fan of the second chance romance trope, then I would definitely recommend you give this book a try!
My entire world narrowed to the woman standing in front of me. Even my heartbeat stilled in reverence to the moment. How was she here? After all this time, she was close enough to touch, and all I could do was stare at her, like if I blinked she would disappear.
The last person Landon expects to show up on the cruise ship he and the rest of the Renegades are on is Rachel – the love of his life, the girl he abandoned, and Wilder’s ex-girlfriend. So messy, right? But Landon sees this as the second chance he thinks he doesn’t deserve, but he’s taking it anyway. There is no other girl for him but Rachel, and this time he’s going to prove it to her and win her heart again.
I was going to win her back. Not just her friendship. Her heart. Her love.
Maybe I wasn’t worth of any of it now, but I could be. I could earn her.
Rachel was utterly destroyed when Landon chose the Renegades over her and their future. She vowed to never let him into her broken heart again, so she would’ve never accepted getting onto the cruise ship if she’d known he was onboard. Surprised is an understatement when she discovers that she’ll be around the boy who abandoned her again. She’s determined to stay away and not let him get under her skin, but how can she resist a Landon who is finally fighting for her love and their future?
“I’m not going anywhere. If I have to tell you that a million times before you’ll believe me, then I’ll do just that. You and me—we’re own little infinity. Our forever is wrapped up in everything that’s between us.”
I have to say I enjoyed Nova just a little more than Wilder. I LOVED Rachel and how she didn’t cave easily to Landon and made him honestly WORK to earn her forgiveness. She’s tough on him, and rightly so. My favorite part about the second chance romance trope is when the hero has to grovel and fight to win back his heroine, and Landon did an amazing job of that. I didn’t quite love the book as much as I wish I could’ve though, because I’m still not entirely invested in the Renegades and their story. BUT! I have high hopes for the rest of the series, and can’t wait to read Rebel’s book!
This is a bit away from my streak of intrigue story line of late because I needed a different read. This author provided it in bunches plus it was a second chance one at that. It is intriguing in a way to see how a couple will work out the stuff that caused the different paths to mend them enough to go on together. The one thing with these two- Landon "Nova" and Rachel is they walked away with a part of each other's heart being only half alive until they connect again. The depth of these two is very prominent in this one. As soon as she can this author will cause sparks to fly off the pages with the fusing of these two doing the mending. You will become so emotional entwined you will forget everything else until you are near the end because you had to ride it out. Then be prepared to be a limp biscuit.
In the first installment in the Renegade series, Rebecca Yarros delivered a tale overflowing with heart-stopping action, butterfly-inducing romance, and swoon-eliciting steam. In Nova, she picks right back up where she left off with Wilder, continuing the adventures of her crew of daredevils with Landon’s story. In this second chance romance, we get to tag along with Landon as he sets out on his mission to not only perfect an epic snowboarding stunt, but also win back the heart of the girl he destroyed several years back. Neither one will be an easy feat; but, in typical Yarros hero fashion, Landon has locked his sights on exactly what he wants and will stop at nothing to achieve the end game.
I think Landon and Rachel may be my most favorite couple out of all of Rebecca’s pairings to date. The push-pull tension between them as they sifted through the wreckage of their previous relationship, attempting to salvage parts that could be built into something new, contained just the right ratio of angsty distance to abandoned surrender. Landon is my kind of hero, every bit as full of honor as any of the guys from the Flight and Glory series, but with a little added tarnish and kinks in his armor. And for as much as we always gush over Rebecca’s male leads, I think she deserves just as much, if not more, credit for the incredible females that she writes. Her women are strong, independent, and fearless and Rachel fully embodies each of these qualities. The ease with which I could relate to these two characters made my investment in their journey so immersive that at times it felt palpable. Moments like that are what make reading an absolutely magical experience.
Nova is just one more example of why Rebecca will always be an automatic one-click author for me. She consistently produces emotionally satisfying stories that entertain with a perfect balance of humor, heart and wisdom. I always look forward to surrounding myself with her words and have no doubt that whatever she has planned for Penna in Rebel will be soul-searching, bold, and unapologetically romantic.
Once again, Rebecca Yarros hits it out of the park with this book. I am really enjoying this series as it is a great unique concept that keeps you on your toes! I am a HUGE fan of second chance romance books and Landon and Rachel did not disappoint! These two together were like sparks and fire. I love how Rachel stands her ground and makes Landon work for it too! The pain that both have gone through to get where they are, was utterly heartbreaking but just added so much strength to the story. I am seriously in love with the Renegades and I am so looking forward to more!

I absolutely loved the Flight & Glory series so I jumped at the chance to read this series. I liked Wilder but it never engaged me like the Flight & Glory series did. But I was hooked enough to find out about Nova and Rachel.
Landon 'Nova' Rhodes is portrayed as the womanizing risk taker but we knew there was more to him from Wilder's story. And what we find out is that Rachel is where is heart is. But will she forgive him for leaving her high and dry? Rachel also happens to be Leah's best friend and Wilder's ex.
"So, yeah, what I did was shitty. I was dating Wilder, and I fell in love with Landon. We went behind his back. I get this. Put the fucking scarlet letter on my chest, brand me a whore, do whatever it is you need to, Penna. But while I almost broke the Renegades, Landon destroyed me. Annihilated me. I gave up everything for him, and he walked away without a backward glance. So if there's some price you need me to pay, I've already paid it. "
I did like the idea of the story but sadly I have to say that Rachel didn't really win me over. Her grudge got tiresome and I wanted more than her grudge. Yeah she was pissed and with reason, but it dragged on way too long. I love strong heroines but barb sharp, bitchy stubborn heroines don't endear me.
" . . . He doesn't get to argue with what he turned me into."
The only thing we have in control is how we choose to react and I gotta say I didn't love the way Rachel reacted to many things.
"No, I'm what I made myself to make sure that I was never fooled again."
"You are anything but convenient. I've had parachute malfunctions more convenient than you. You're the most frustrating complicated, utterly addictive woman I have ever been around, but you are sure as hell not convenient."
"I love you, Rachel. You know that. And I'll wait for as long as you need me to, but I'm begging you to start giving me the benefit of the doubt. I can love you with everything I have in me, but I can't love you enough for the both of us. At some point you have got to stop taking hits at me just to see how far you can push before I'll leave. I'm not leaving, but I'm not sure you can say the same, and that scares the shit out of me."
The tests and tribulations that Landon had to go through were a lot, and he more than not showed his intent. But Rachel had a huge shield up causing her to be caustic at times and then even though I quite liked Landon the secrets he kept keeping were not helping his case.
"I've thought a lot the last couple of days, and if I had the chance to talk to the person who hurt me? The person I loved most in the world? I'd take it. Because all the pain in the world would be worth it for just the tiniest bit of understanding."
That was good advice too bad she didn't take it because her life would have been much simpler. However, that advice was given from Penna and I'm so intrigued to find out more from the mysterious Penna.
I so wanted to like this book more than I did but it still had sweet moments which made up for some of the annoying parts for me and it has captured me enough to continue, where we can find out more from Penna.
