I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.

This is the second in the Heartbreakers series, and like the first, it's a sweet wish-fulfillment story for any girl who's wondered what would happen if they met their favorite band.

Felicity is a defacto only child after her dad ditched the family and her rebellious older sister ran away, and she's spent her life trying to live up to what she thinks her mom's expectations are-- undergrad at Harvard, then law school like her dad (without the leaving part). When she's padding her application with a volunteer shift at a cancer benefit, she meets a masked boy and sparks fly. But when she removes her mask, he reluctantly follows suit, revealing himself as the guitarist for the Heartbreakers. While a waitress at a waffle joint and a rock star might be an impossible pairing, this is YA fiction and nothing is impossible. As she gets ready for a date, Felicity uncovers a shocking family secret, and finds herself on the road with a cute celebrity and her two BFFs who might be more than just friends with each other.

A lot of the conflict in this comes around because of poor communication and assumptions, two things I hate in fiction, but the fun fangirlish story kept me going. I'm too old to be into boy bands, but I was 15 once and remember that feeling, so I can't hate on these books. This is a bit more risque than the first, with sex hinted at and briefly mentioned, but the main characters never get beyond Makeout City.

This title is part of a series, but easily works as a stand-a-lone title. I enjoyed it so much that I sought out and read book 1 once I had finished this book. Felicity's struggle to define her life outside of her family's expectations is relatable and grounds her character, despite a fantastical meet-cute with a teen rockstar and ensuing adventures. I eagerly anticipate reading more about The Heartbreakers!

I enjoyed the road trip aspect of the story. The book also does a good job of showing a wide range of friendships. I didn't like that the conflict with the sister was resolved really quickly. The mother's actions felt bizarre to me.

I'm not going to deny that I'm a huge boyband fan and any YA about this sort of a band makes me at least interested. "Paper Hearts' is deliciously sweet love story. I really enjoyed the fact that there was hesitation, a bit of a worry (yes, Alec is a member of the world's best known band) and this sort of shy attitude on both sides. I also appreciated the issue of following your own heart and dreams, living your own life. It's well-grounded novel about life, love, trust, friendship and forgiveness.

Another sweet read from Ali Novak. When Felicity meets a cute guy at a masquerade ball, she has no idea that he's a member of the hottest boy band around, The Heartbreakers. It turns out he's a great guy and even teams up with her for a road trip and some mystery solving. Between this great guy and her two best friends, Felicity begins to see that life holds so much more than she thought possible.

Novak's writing is great and the story flows nicely. The mystery kept me turning pages and the romance was light and sweet.

I found Paper Hearts to be a really quick, enjoyable read. To me it felt like a cross between A Cinderella Story, and Disney’s Starstruck. It was a feel-good story, in the cheesiest of ways - It’s your typical YA romance where boy meets girl and they just click, but with a Hollywood style twist. There were times I wanted to scream at the main character Felicity, but isn’t drawing emotion from the reader just a sign of a good book?

I’ve never read a book by Ali Novak before, but I can see myself becoming a big fan of hers, and would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick, fun, contemporary romance.

DNF. I could not finish this book. I found it to be too cliched and too one dimensional.

Felicity meets boy band-er Alec at a charity ball and is instantly smitten. Then Felicity finds out that her mother has been hiding letters from her for the past four years. These letters are from her sister who she thought was missing. Felicity decides to go on a road trip to find her sister and Alec drives her. Over the course of the short trip they fall in love but Felicity is worried that she can't trust someone as famous as Alec.
