If you enjoy well-paced, funny, action packed, suspenseful paranormal romances filled with sexy alpha males and quirky and strong women, Taming the Pack box set is a must. While each story is about a different couple and can be read as a standalone (I did read This Weakness for you first some time ago) after reading them in order this time, I can tell you that there’s a background story line that will be better enjoyed if read as suggested.
These three great stories by Wendy Sparrow all share the same traits: an uber-alpha male, a crazy kick-ass heroine with a side of sass and a scent match that is the last thing the Lycan in question needs at the time but turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to them.
I do need to warn everyone that all these are CLEAN ROMANCES, meaning there’s zero cock/fuck/pussy count and there’s no sex to be seen. There are a lot of steamy kisses and scorching hot chemistry, but alas! We don’t get to see these possessive alphas seal the deal… totally our loss. Ms. Sparrow, throw a girl a bone and let us enjoy those fine male specimens you write about.
Past My Defenses
The first story is one I don’t usually go for as far as werewolf romances go and it’s a she-wolf mating with a human. I sometimes feel that the male not being physically stronger than the girl kinda sucks, but in Past My Defenses this works really, really well.
Dane is a park ranger who just happens to find a wolf in his back yard. You can imagine his surprise when there’s a hot naked chick inside the kennel instead of a wolf the next morning. Something in her calls to him, and he is soon planning how to keep her close to him.
Vanessa doesn’t need to be scent-matched to a skinny (what lycans call humans), it’s enough that she is allergic to everything, she doesn’t need the complication of a human mate. But a scent match is undeniable and no matter how hard she fights it she just can’t stay away from Dane.
Vanessa was insane, hilarious and feisty. Her allergies were just the cherry on top of all her craziness. Dane reminded me of Shay’s former SEAL father from Carnal Secrets. In other words: he rocks. He was a bossy, possessive alpha, protective of his woman and a match to any alpha wolf out there.
Outside forces keep them on their toes as a threat to the pack looms over them. Action, crazy shenanigans and the best banter make this a fantastic read.

This Weakness for You
I’ve previously read this one as a standalone, and while I loved it at the time, there were a lot more details I was able to enjoy this time around. The animosity between Jordan (this book’s H) and Dane makes a lot more sense now, as does Jordan’s reluctance to accept a scent match to his baby sister Christa. But a scent match is not to be denied and soon he is a totally obsessed alpha devoted to making his mate happy.
Jordan is the epitome of the alpha wolf, sexy, moody, and all yummy bossiness. His devotion to keeping his pack safe and his clear affection to his tiny mate were adorable.
Christa was a fantastic leading lady. A force to be reckoned with in spite of her suffering from MS and being pint-sized, she takes the big bad wolf down. She was caring, sweet and incredibly badass, I loved her.
The action and suspense that’s directly related to the events of the previous book escalates to an all new high making this another page turner I loved.

Crazy Over You
By this point in the series, I was hoping that Travis would be next. And who better to drive this high-IQ control freak out of his mind than a crazy chick with violent tendencies and an affinity to breaking the law?
Of the three this seemed to be the most mismatched pairing, and their respective backgrounds and personalities couldn’t be more opposite. Though in this case, opposites do attract…like crazy.
Travis’ experience with scent-matching was probably the most hilarious of all, as he puts his foot so far in his mouth he could probably walk around inside out. He was extra-bossy, super alpha and amusingly inept when it came to females.
LeAnn was bat-shit crazy. She was a thief by trade but had a heart of gold. In search of her half-brother and the only family she had left, she stumbled into Travis and all hell broke loose when she gets in the middle of a conspiracy against both Travis’ and Jordan’s packs.
With the culmination of the series background plotline, this was a really great read too. There’s still lots of action but the suspense and mystery behind all these packs problems were predominant. I enjoyed how much the other couples are included and wished for a little bit more.
Rating: 4 Stars
What I enjoyed most of all these books is that besides the action, suspense and hilarity, there are some serious subjects that our characters must deal with. I think this was extremely well done. Also, I must confess that I was left wanting more from all three couples, and hope that these packs get a few more stories. Or at least get a novella with extended HEAs as I’m not sure the epilogues we got here were up to my exacting standards. This is a series for everyone who enjoys a good PNR story with action and suspense and doesn’t mind any hanky-panky going on.
A unique spin on shifters with insta-lust thrown in for good measure. I loved the world of shifters Wendy Sparrow has created. It's rich in superstition, legend, traditions and pack laws. As a sci-fi read this was awesome, but coming into it expecting the romance to be in the spot light will leave you expecting just a little more than the end result.
Since I had read these before I just had to do so again because know I could go from one to the other. In the first one it centers around Vanessa and Dane with a case inbetween them that they also will learn about each other. No humor spared either with you loving every minute you spend in this one. Sliding into book two the alpha no less has some issues but soon they will go into another direction. This one centers around Jordan and Christa with a little bit of forever could be on the horizon if senses do not lie. When flying into the third one you will be pulled to the edge and back with this centering around the sheriff. Travis will have his hands full with LeAnn with it pulling you over the edge if you are not ready. All in all excellent reading without stopping if desired until the last one but then what will be next?
Past My Defenses- Dane was a park ranger and driving home and found an abandoned car. The car was in the ditch with the door open . Vanessa was deathly allergic to cats as well as a lot of other things. Vanessa was a werewolf and her Alpha was Jordan. A year ago Dane had proposed to Kayle and she had said no. Vanessa came to in human form and realized Dane was her mate. Dane thought he had captured a wolf but the next morning he found a naked woman in the cage begging him to lose the cat. Dane gave Vanessa two allergy pills from his first aid kit then he had Vanessa go up to his room to sleep and hopefully recuperate. Vanessa went to Danes room and went to sleep like he told her to do. He slept next to her but on top of the covers. Dane was a human but also Vanessa’s mate and they had scent mated.
This Weakness for You- Jordan was the only Lycan among his his siblings that was a werewolf. He was the youngest of his family but also the Alpha of his pack. Jordan was also the most successful of the siblings in his family. Two years ago there had been deaths in protecting a female of his pack and he knew he would have to answer for his part eventually. His siblings envy and Jordan’s pride had poisoned the relationship between him and his siblings. There had been a forum with member called Bo Peep looking for Jordan. Then Jordan told his brother Garrett to tell Bo Peep he could arrange a meeting . the forum was invitation only. Garrett would bait a trap for Jordan. Vanessa had a baby boy and Dane’s sister Christa who had M S was there to see her new nephew. Then Jordan was going in to see the boy and ended up scent matched to Christa and she didn’t have a clue what was going on. Travis used to be in Jordan’s pack and his second but then left to start his own pack and the single men left and followed Travis which was fine with Jordan. But then Travis called one of his pack members was murdered had asked for Jordan’s help.Jordan wanted to stay with Christi but didn’t want the problem to kill off Travis's pack then come after him and his pack. Especially as Jordan felt the killer may have been looking for him. All he wanted was to track the killer and return home to Christi.
Crazy Over You- Travis and his pack had helped remove the threat of poachers that had been hanging over the Lycan community for nearly twelve years. He had lost some pack members - including Ross who had started the poachers on his old pack. Then Ross’s sister had pinned Travis with a knife to his throat wanting to know where her brother was. Travis was exhausted from the fight with the poachers . Travis then realized he had scent mated with Leann who was Ross’s half sister. Leann swore Ross had been outside of Travis’s house today. Then Travis asked Leann if she knew she was a Lycan and she said she wasn’t a Lycan and her brother ross wasn’t dead. . Leann had shad learned you couldn’t trust anyone but yourself and she would find Ross herself. She hadn’t spent much time with Ross since the visit two years ago. But Ross had taught her how to track and had beaten the tar out of her ex when he had shown up and tried to hurt Leann. Leann felt like she didn’t deserve nice things like belonging and love that was for people who hadn’t done what she had. Leann felt it was time to really go over Ross's place and try to find any clues that might help her find him as Leann made a living finding things people had hidden. Leann tried to leave but somehow kept ending up with Travis. Yet she firmly believed she wasn’t a Lycan but Travis was one splendid male and she did want him. But she couldn’t be the Alpha female to his pack. She needed to find her brother and leave.
I loved this whole series and how one story went right with the next one. All three stories were great. I can’t say I really have a favorite story. They all had some humor some more than others but that was okay it was as it should be. Some made me sad as though i knew the people especially Leann. I was happy how all three stories ended and loved the plots. They were all easy to read and kept my interest from beginning to end. I loved all the different characters and all the ins and out and I highly recommend.
Past My Defenses
Wendy Sparrow has definitely written a werewolf (they go by lycan in this universe) story with a twist here. Our heroine does have super speed and fantastic hearing, but she also suffers from near-dibilitating alergies and has a relationship with her four(!) air purifiers that borders on unnatural.
Seriously. She's taken down by a housecat in the first scene. (I was going to say "common housecat", but I'm not entirely convinced he is.) She's allergic to marshmallows. (According to the author's note, so is Ms. Sparrow. My condolences...) Though I do love the fact that Dane puts her list of allergens on the fridge. And memorizes it. And they put the list to good use...more than once.
“What are you doing?” he asked, smiling against her skin.
“Listing out my allergies so I can keep my hormones from taking over.”
He shouldn’t keep going. They were meant to be paying attention to their environment. Plus, now “ragweed” had joined the list of words that couldn’t be said in mixed company. They should stop. He pulled back enough to drag his shirt off.
“You stopped on sesame seeds,” he said.
“Carrots, celery, cumin.” Cumin was said on a long moan. She made spices she couldn’t have sound even more forbidden.
“You forgot coriander.” He groaned as she bit his collarbone.
“I didn’t forget coriander. I just hadn’t gotten there yet.” It earned him another bite.
Oh, hell, they should really stop. “You were listing the Cs in alphabetical order.”
“I was just listing them.” She pressed herself closer to him. “Fennel, kiwi.” She tipped her head back and those nails scraped down his back again. “Coriander.”
Coriander was on the list of inappropriate words now.
Ms. Sparrow's sense of humor really shines in this novel. Even though I will readily admit that a simple conversation or two could have resolved most if not all of Vanessa and Dane's relationship woes in--oh, the second chapter maybe--I so thoroughly enjoyed reading the rest of the novel I didn't even care. Plus, the "whodunnit" at the end isn't completely obvious, which made it fun (though that individual was on my short list of suspects, I wasn't at all sure until the big reveal).

This Weakness for You
Jordan's story! I loved him in Vanessa and Dane's book ( Past My Defenses ), and the nonstop sparring (mixed with a healthy dose of mutual respect) between Jordan and Dane continues here, since Jordan scent matches with Dane's younger sister Christa. Absolutely perfect! ;)
Ms. Sparrow's writing made me laugh out loud over and over again. Her sense of humor is fantastic, and really shines through both her writing and characters. Poor Christa--it took her most of the book to get used to the fact that she was surrounded by Lycans with amazing hearing, and her lapses made for some really funny scenes. (Awkward for her, but super funny for the rest of us)
Lucifer the cat is back too, and seeing him instantly obey Jordan even over the phone is hysterical. (Clearly, I need to get involved with an alpha Lycan--can I connect with one on eHarmony, do you think? My cats have a little too much power here.)
I was already half in love with Jordan's big bad alpha wolf self after book one, so it was pretty much a given I was going to enjoy his book. Christa ends up being his perfect counterpart--she sees herself as weak for much of the book, in part because she has MS (yay to Ms. Sparrow for writing a heroine with MS!), but in reality she's so much stronger than her condition. She's a kickbutt marksman (markswoman?)--the scene where Jordan decides to teach her some basic gun safety is hilarious--and she has zero filter as far as her brain-to-mouth connection goes. (Remember the Lycan sense of hearing? So. Many. Laughs.)
Even her dad is awesome. If ever a family were created that should be involved with supernaturals, the Hansens are it. His retelling of his phone conversation with his daughter re: their new in-laws? I think I snorted some Pepsi Max out of my nose at that part.
Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this book. If you like paranormals, appreciate humor in your reading, and enjoy sweet sexiness (there's not really much actual steaminess, though, but I for one didn't miss it at all), then do yourself a favor and give this series a try.
Quite a bit in this book hinges on what was going on in book one, but much of it is explained along the way (some of it for Christa's benefit, since she was new to the situation), so it's not necessary to have read the first book to "get" this one--but this series and these characters are so much fun you're going to want to read them both—and since they’re now in a box set together, it’s easier than ever!.

Crazy Over You
It's a good thing that digital highlighters don't ever dry up, because I gave my Kindle's highlighter function a real workout with this one. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments, and so many truly clever lines. I enjoyed the heck out of reading this one.
Right from the very first page, Travis and LeAnn are on opposite sides--he's a small-town sheriff, she's a (rather successful) petty criminal; she's looking for her brother, he might just have had a hand in the man's very recent death; he wakes from a dead sleep to find her naked on top of him, with one of his own knives to his throat--and just in case that's not enough, Travis realizes almost immediately that they've scent matched, which means they're destined to be mates.
Oh, the conflict! The pages are oozing with it, in the best possible way.
"If you let me up, we can keep talking about this." And by "talking" he meant he'd have her on her back, moaning out his name rather rapidly. His very long stretch of abstinence was about to end.
She licked her lips and wrinkled up her nose. "First, tell me where my brother is."
Well, that would ruin any "talking".
Even though at first they seem like oil and water, the reader can clearly see that fate got it right this time--LeAnn and Travis are each exactly what the other needs. Travis, the organizing, control-freak alpha, definitely needed a less-than-gentle shove out of the rut his life had gotten into. LeAnn had spent a lifetime looking for a place to belong and a family that wouldn't leave or make her want to leave, and she finds it with Jordan and the pack. Plus, she gets to use her "special skills" for the greater good for a change.
She could hot-wire cars. That was good to know. Also very sexy. In a non-law-abiding way that he couldn't ever outwardly support.
The suspense was nicely done--though I was pretty sure I knew some of what was going on, I didn't have it all figured out until the characters did, which was excellent. Book three continues the series' overarching plot where the packs are concerned, finally resolving their main problem--which is good, because resolution! but sad, because the series comes to an end... :(
The romance, of course, is fantastic--Travis and LeAnn have great chemistry and even better banter. Even in the middle of a shootout, they were making me laugh.
Both he and LeAnn bounced up at the same time, firing. More swearing from Troy.
"Yes!" LeAnn said as they dropped back down to the floor.
"I got him," they said at the same time before scowling at each other.
"Oh, that was me," LeAnn said.
"No, I'm sorry, but that was me." He wasn't going to give up his hits because she was a woman he wanted in a filthy way--one he wanted even more now that he'd seen her fire a gun. "Troy, was that last hit from a rifle or handgun?" he yelled.
His answer was more swearing.
"It was from a rifle," he translated for her.
"Oh, sweetie, if you really need this to boost your self-confidence, I'll give you this one," she said, giving him a long look.
"Honey, that wasn't a gun in my pocket a few minutes back. Trust me, I have a lot to be confident about." He gestured toward the other side of the table with his head. "Including that last shot."
She pulled her shirt off. "And they're real, babydoll."
He stared.
"And that last shot was all me too."
See what I mean? There's a lot more where that comes from, believe me. ;)
This book was a thank-goodness-I-don't-have-to-work-today-because-I'm-not-sure-I-could-stop-reading-it kind of story. Make sure you've cleared out a few hours before you sit down to start it; you'll be glad you did.
I have loved this series from start to finish, and can't wait to see what Ms. Sparrow has in store for us next. In the meantime, at least we have her backlist... ;)

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This boxed set contains three previously published lycan romances: Past My Defences, This Weakness for You and Crazy Over You. I’d actually read and reviewed two out of the three already but I still enjoyed re-reading them ☺ Each story involves a wolf shifter meeting their mate - and encountering disbelief. dangers, peril, angst and turmoil before they stand any opportunity of gaining their ‘happy ever after’ together. Each story is well paced with great characters and plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader enthralled.
In the first story, Past My Defences, Vanessa is the heroine is a super heroine werewolf but is severely allergic to cats and marshmallows - along with a whole list of other foods! When she meets Dane Hansen, the park ranger who finds her debilitated in wolf form and takes her home to try to save her - then is amazed to discover a naked woman in the cage instead of the silver wolf. However, he’s also the person looking after the cat that brought her down, they scent match but there’s lots to happen before they actually get togehter!
Jordan is Vanessa’s pack alpha and the hero of the second story, This Weakness for You. In this story the heroine is Dane’s little sister and the ‘owner’ of the cat that triggered Vanessa’s reaction. When you also know that Jordan has tried to kill Dane, you know things won’t go smoothly for them! There’s some dramatic action and it just shows that sometimes it takes a woman to see the bigger picture and solution - but I’ll let you read it to find out what I mean!
In the third story in the trilogy, Crazy Over You, continues the story running throughout the trilogy but this time the it starts with the heroine, LeeAnn, waking the local sheriff, Travis Flynn, whilst sat on him holding a knife to his throat! From such inauspicious beginnings things just get worse as she won’t believe the brother for whom she is searching, could possibly be a murderer and nor does she believe she’s a lycan - though all the other lycans can sense that she is.
The stories link well together with a common plot thread running between them. Many characters appear in all three stories and all have tense moments and others that will have you laughing out loud. Wendy Sparrow is a highly talented writer, bringing her paranormal world to life within the pages of her stories, complete with easy to relate to characters, mystery, danger, romance and a brilliant dash of humour. This is a great collection and thoroughly enjoyable read!
Many thanks to the publishers for gifting me a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review.
Past My Defenses

Forest ranger Dane Hansen is surprised that when he finds an abandoned car by the road, the sheriff will not let him stay and help find the driver.
When he gets home and the cat with the very fitting name escapes into the forest. His hunt for the cat brings a whole new world of discovery.
Lycan Vanessa Tucker wakes up in a cage after nearly being killed by a cat. Her severe allergies could literally be the death of her. Her being in heat with her hormones screaming "mate, mate "is not helping.
This story is hilarious, even if we have a psychotic killer on the loose. Poachers are killing lycans for their body parts. Although the one hunting Vanessa's pack seems to have a more personal reason.
This is the first in a boxed set and I can't wait to read the rest.

This Weakness For You.

Christa Hansen is on her way to meet her new nephew, but she also has to ask her brother if she can stay with them. Unfortunately her cat will mess that up. Her sister in law has terrible allergies. Christa herself by has M. S. and is used to being weak in body but not in spirit.
Lycan alpha Jordan Hill is visiting his new pack member when he is struck by an amazing scent.
An ailing house guest is going to drive him out if his mind. That is until a phone call from another alpha.
Have the poachers hit again or is the latest death more personal?
The second in the series and should be read in order. All out war shouldn't have so many laughs, but thus has. It's great fun. The families have really lovely characters.

Crazy Over You.

Lycan Alpha , Travis Flynn is trying to come to terms with his pack. They are a bunch of misfits , some of them intent on challenging him for the Alpha spot. They are all recovering from the recent battle with the poachers that was set up by one if their own.
LeAnn has come to find her brother after a cryptic message. He told her that his alpha was out to kill him. She is not a lycan but she can track and knows her brother is alive despite what everyone tells her.
This is the third in the series and must be read in order. Our control freak alpha is nearly driven crazy by our naughty heroine. Something we thought ended in the last story has not . Who is the one pulling the strings?.
Another real fun story with an intriguing story line.
I have loved each of the books in the series, and hope there is more to come.
Taming the Pack Boxed Set by Wendy Sparrow is the box set for the Taming the Pack Series which includes Books 1-3.
This was my first time reading this author and I wasn’t disappointed. This box set included plenty of humor and laugh-out-loud moments while giving us engaging characters and an interesting storyline. Being a shifter set, I found this to be light on the heat and more sweet than anything but this didn’t take away from the stories and still made for a great read.
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
'Taming the Pack Boxed Set' by Wendy Sparrow is the box set of the series "Taming the Pack". These are three completely different stories with HEA. There are pretty much the same people in each book with a few new comers. This box set with three books that totals to about 840 pages. Here are the titles that are included:
1. Past My Defenses: Which is the Vanessa and Dane. Vanessa is a wolf with a lot of allergies. One night when she is on watch her allergies act up so bad that she gets caught in Wolf form by Dane who is the Park Ranger. Dane is not a wolf but a human but they are quickly attracted to one another the next morning when Vanessa turns back into her women form.
2. This Weakness for You: Is the story of Jordan and Christa. We met them in the first book...Jordan is the Pack Alpha who had a run of bad luck with some crazy women. Christa is Dane sister and she has some health issues. When Jordan first meets Christa he smells her before seeing her and backs out of the room real fast. He has sworn of women and so he tries to avoid the call that he is feeling.
3. Crazy Over You: Is the story of Travis and LeAnn. Travis is the Local Sheriff that appears in both previous books. Travis is wanting what his friends have a scented mate. So when he wakes up to LeAnn its not just the shock of her being their is the call to her.
These books were just great!! I loved how funny the characters were! I loved Lucifer the cat kept showing up in each book. The wasn't the hottest sex scene but it made up for it in the story line and with and with all the funny interactions! Now I will have to find more books by Ms. Sparrow since this was my first!

I really enjoyed all three stories in this book. With great characters, witty banter, and an interesting plot that was carried throughout the books, Taming the Pack had just about everything I like in a paranormal romance.
I had previously read the first book, Past My Defenses, when it was originally released. Vanessa and Dane were great. She’s a wolf that has allergies, he’s a human forest ranger, and together these two were lots of fun! Vanessa runs when things get difficult, but she’s in heat so it’s a bit hard for her to run away from the man she has scent-matched to, even if he is a human! Dane is just trying to figure out how the wolf he had in his cage could possibly be this woman who just ran off on him. These two didn’t have the easiest time getting together, but it was a whole lot of fun watching them get there.
In This Weakness for You, we get to see Jordan fighting his scent-match to Christa – not only has he been there, done that and it didn’t work out so well with having a mate, it turns out Christa is Dane’s sister…and after all the grief Jordan gave Dane about Vanessa he knows Dane will kill him if he even thinks about going near his sister! Christa has to be one of my most favorite characters in a long time. She’s feisty, confident, and really lives for each day and moment – all this in spite of life’s set backs, including the fact that she has MS. She doesn’t let Jordan get away with anything – from pushing her away to being over-protective, she always called him on his actions.
And in Crazy Over You we finally get to see Sheriff Travis Flynn meet his match, uh, scent-match – even if she seems to walk a bit on the other side of the law! LeAnn just wants to find her brother and falling for the sexy sheriff is not part of the plan. Travis has seen his two friends find their mates and wants what they have…and if that means pulling out all the stops to keep LeAnn with him and maybe breaking a law or two along the way, well, a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.
And did I happen to mention Lucifer? The devil-cat that belongs to Christa? Loved how Lucifer was woven into these stories – from Vanessa’s allergies to Jordan’s heart to heart “talks” with the cat – Lucifer was one awesome kitty…even if he could truly resemble his namesake at times!
Although there wasn’t a lot of steam in any of these books, there was some great tension between the characters as they either fought their attraction or continued to be in denial about their scent-match. There was a lot of cute play between the characters – like the sheriff stripping to get LeAnns attention and Christa wanting to experience some dirty talk – so I was more than satisfied with a bit of sizzle, especially that there was also a good dose of humor that always seemed to accompany it!
The over-arching story line that was carried between these three books was great – and even though all the books do wrap us nicely on their own and can be read as stand-alones, there is a nice tie-in between all the books. I really enjoyed the world and characters that have been created, and the human/lycan connection was a nice twist to the traditional werewolf lore. There were a lot of great characters in all the books and I would love to see more books written in this world! This is definitely a series to check out!
Three books in the box set and all three of the books were an entertaining read. Full of likeable characters and entertaining moments from one book to the next.
Review copy received from Entangled Publishing
Taming the Pack Boxed Set is a wonderful trilogy, with each story having its own unique flavour. Great characters ensure that the stories are thoroughly enjoyable, however, as these are wolf shifters, I was a little surprised at the rather sweet nature of the stories and the lack of sexual intensity.
This was my first read by Wendy Sparrow, but Vanessa and Dane, Jordan and Crista and Travis and LeAnn managed to capture my heart and provide an entertaining, relaxing and satisfying read.
