This book has a lot of promise, but I don't know, I just couldn't get into it. I liked the premise of a bartender who knows just how to make her feel better, but I kept getting insta-lovey vibes. I liked that Deveaux gave us drink receipts too. But, that scene at the end with the cherry juice? I really just wanted them both to take a shower. It grossed me out, and judging from the scene, that was not it's intended purpose.
Some erotic romances don't have much of a story and simply focus on the hot and steamy scenes and that to great details. While this book still contains plenty of the hot and steamy (don't read this book if you are looking for something clean, and wholesome), it actually contained a coherent and endearing story line, unlike other books I have read lately (better than 50 Shades Of Grey, that is for sure).
The connection between the main characters was believable and not rushed. Now, this is not a long book, but it did not feel like the Author left out half of the story, in order to get faster through the plot.
Overall, I enjoyed this book.
Lexi’s ex was Deakin and he had been a rebound lover Deakin had physically abused Lexi. Scott was the one Lexi really longed for but he was dead. The bartender stirred something inside of Lexi that had thought she had forgotten- desire. Lexi thought one drink before she cleaned out the apartment and turn in the keys.Justin could see Lexi was hurting when she walks in the bar and he wanted to fix it. Lexi had been laid off this morning so she also had to get another job. - another thing to add to the growing to do list. It had been just over a year since Scott had died. The bartender’s name was Justin. Lexi returns to the bar and finds there is an opening for a waitress .
I loved this story, I thought it was so sweet and definitely hot. It was a short read with a great plot. Although I do wish it was longer. I didn’t want to put this down and it made me laugh which is great. It is an instalove/lust romance and I usually don’t like them that well but it worked in this case. I just loved Lexi and Justin together. I also love the fact there was actually drink recipes in the book. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I highly recommend.
Super sweet and very naughty read. A sexy bartender that can make you the perfect cocktail meets broken-hearted Lexi when she walks into his bar. It's love at first sight for Justin when Lexi comes into his bar looking to day drink her problems away. The author intertwines sexy and naughty cocktails with her love story between Justin and Lexi.
My first read by Kate Deveaux and I really enjoyed it.
Thanks NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
Super sexy, fun yet a little intrigue, in this fast read. I loved the chemistry and how he knew he wanted her, no playing games no macho man here, just honest real sweetheart.
Woman in Tucson who just got fired and has a stalker walks into a bar; what happens then isn’t a joke, unless you count all the drink puns.
Lexi is a little flighty and neurotic, but oddly enough that makes her more endearing. The further the story goes the more adventurous she gets, especially with locations involving the word pool. Oddly enough, the first sex scene isn’t written with nearly the same style as the rest; almost stilted, choppy. Luckily after that it gets better. There’s a few fun side characters, like her best friend who’s engaged to a Brit; of course they walk in on the new couple at the worst time. Unfortunately the villain is so one-dimensional it hardly seemed worth including him. And of course there has to be a girl from Justin’s past to pop up and make a misunderstanding.
Cute, but no big deal. At least it’s somewhat funny, especially the drink names. The hot sex scenes are the highlight.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
Fun & sexy read with a lot of heart. I love the story line- a unique twist on finding new love after heartbreak. Justin is a guy any woman would swoon over & falls for sweet & determined Lexi at first glance.
I loved the "naughty" drink recipes that the author included- added another layer of fun to an already entertaining read.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Great read! Fast paced and very steamy. I loved the characters as well as the story, poor Lexi has been through a lot and Justin is exactly what she needs.
This is a very fun book! I loved all the drink names.
When Lexi walks into a bar down on her luck and doesn't know what to do next she sits at the bar. The bartender comes over and asks what she wants to drink. She let him pick. He knows how to pick the perfect drink. When she asks what it is called she can't believe it. Justin takes one look at Lexi and what to pick up her spirts as he sees lots of pain in her eyes.
When Lexi comes back to see Justin they realize the heat between them and explore each other for a night. However it is not enough. Justin is going to teach Lexi about all his naught drink recipes and more.
Ever go to a bar in the middle of the day to drown your sorrows? Well that 's what Lexi does when she loses her job & her apartment in the same day not to mention she grieving the loss of one love and recovering from the abuse of another. Justin the barkeep just might be the answer to all her problems.
Justin is a dream come true. He helps Lexi thru this difficult time with humor, support, crazy new drinks and hot sex. Who could ask for more? The things this man can do with a cherry. A delightful read from beginning to end.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
I loved the drink recipes and I really liked how Lexi and Justin connected from the beginning. However, I was just not able to stay interested. It was missing - something. I would have liked to have seen Lexi kick Deakins ass instead of waiting for someone else to do it.
With each and every page this novel got more and more interesting. I loved the fact it had the recipes in the novel.. very thoughtful. I must admit I had a bit of an chuckle about some of the names of those alcoholic beverages.. we all have had personal issues at one point or another where we find ourselves needing a drink even if it's just small. This book is relatable in some aspects which I loved.
I was very happy with the end results of it and would read it again. Certainly an likeable novel. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity of reading this novel. Great job by the author:)
This is the first book I have read by Kate Deveaux but it won’t be my last. I enjoyed this story from Lexi’s downs and ups to her interaction with the sexy tattooed barman Justin. Bottoms Up is one I will definitely read again
a well-written and unique romance .I enjoyed it from start to finish. GOOD! totally good
4 smutty stars.
I was pleasantly surprised at this one. having not read anything by this author before, I had no idea what to expect.
this isn't the type of book that's going to send you on a rollercoaster of emotions. nor does it have a tonne of depth or suspense.
HOWEVER... its a super cute insta love story that for sure will keep you entertained in all the good ways.
Justin is just the perfect lead. He is the perfect balance between alpha badboy and sweet sex god.
Lexi was also a great lead. Having took a knock to her confidence with a ruff year and a crazy ex, going into bottoms up was exactly what she needed.
together their chemistry was off the charts. the story was pretty seemless and the sexual tension/build up had me feeling super swoony.
their relationship was a good mix of sweet and sassy with none of the unessecery angst and bitching that normally follows. There isn't much in the way of side characters in this book other that the odd quick interaction but if I'm honest the story didn't need it either.
Its a good short read that will definitely keep you entertained.
