I found The Craving Brain: Science, Spirituality and the Road to Recovery to have good clear information on the addictive brain and how addiction affects addicted individuals. We hear stories from addicted individuals while explaining how their addiction affects them and their brain. There is good information on treatment and how to help addicted individuals.

I recommend The Craving Brain to anyone struggling, know of someone struggling with addiction or wanting good information on addiction.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.

I had hoped for more direct instructions in incorporating non-Christian, even non-religious spirituality into working the twelve steps. It was glossed over, not explained, as I had hoped. The book is a good explanation of addiction as a brain malfunction that can be worked around through traditional means, but not the boots on the ground how-to I had hoped for.

This book is a great combination of science and story, warning and hope. With inter-weaving chapters from a doctor and an alcoholic/addict in recovery, the book systematically explains the start of addiction, the effects, and the power of recovery. The authors provide science and resources enough to show credibility, but not so much to overwhelm the reader.

The spiritual elements of recovery are not overly emphasized, but the authors gently suggest the power of spiritual practice that they've seen. I believe people of any religion or no religion should feel comfortable reading this.

This book will be informative and hope-giving for addicts, family and friends of addicts, professionals in social or spiritual fields, and the general public. Alcoholism and addiction affect people all around us and impact global society, so we all need to understand what this book has to tell us.

Everyone must read this book!
This book makes my list as one of the top reads in the addiction genre. This book has had an impact on my life in more ways than I've realized. Addiction is a real problem. I know little about addiction and the book opened my eyes to addictions. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is dealing with addictions or trying to help those who are struggling and want to know more about addictions.
Thank you Netgalley for this book.
