Back in the day, I read quite a bit of Cherry Adair (remember her T-Flac series??? Those were my crack.). She writes fun, steamy romances and we get that with Hurricane. We also get an over the top suspense plot with an over the top villain, which made me roll my eyes a little. But still a fun book.
Rydell is a treasure ship, salvage hunter. It’s his passion in life and how he makes his living. Married, happy and with a new daughter, when his daughter dies suddenly, his marriage instantly falls apart. Rydell wasn’t local when this tragedy happened, and his wife, Addison, never tried to contact him (sounds cold and heartless…you need to read to find out why). Their marriage instantly dissolves, leaving both of them devastated. Addison files for divorce and turns to her former lover, Naveen for comfort.
A year later, Rydell has had his ship taken hostage and he lost his crew. He is desperate to salvage and needs a boat – and guess who has one? His ex-wife has control of the ship they jointly owned. She is getting ready to sell it, and Rydell wants it back. Instead of asking nicely, he boards the ship and takes over. Rydell is pissed that Addison is with Naveen, and pissed that he doesn’t have his own boat – basically pissed off at the entire world. He still loves Addison deeply and wants her back.
Not his wife, Ry reminded himself.
Not. His. Wife.
Not anymore.
But first he has to take total control of the boat and be all growly. Addison, super stubborn herself, refuses to leave the boat, so off they go on their own adventure. It’s quite frosty to start – but also sexy:
Irritation spiked and spread in a heated rush as he stood there as if he owned the ship, her, and everything he surveyed.
I hate you.
Tall, he had shoulders almost as wide as the doorway, huge hands, strong muscular legs, and big…everything in between. His dark hair, always finger-combed, hung to his shoulders, and he’d needed a shave two or three days ago. Everything about Rydell Case was large and dark. Addison’s skin felt hot and too tight.
Oh Addison! You are already a goner!
I love a lovers reunited story and the pain between Rydell and Addison is pretty intense.
She might hate him in the daylight hours, but her subconscious ached for him in her dreams.
They still love each other really, but their pain from losing their daughter and the miscommunication afterwards has created a void that is so deep, they can’t find their way. But, being stuck on a boat together definitely makes them face what they couldn’t face in the past. Once they talk about their daughter’s death, they fall back in love pretty quick. I liked them together – Rydell is very alpha and stalks around with his big attitude, but Addison can give it back just as good. Addison is from much wealth and has to deal with a horribly selfish mother which weighs on her a bit. Naveen hangs around in this book – once she divorced Rydell, she went back to Naveen but nothing physical has happened between them. He is pushing for it, but Addison keeps putting him off. He plays a bigger part in this book and while I’m not a huge fan of the boyfriend hanging around as the hero and heroine rekindle their love, his story line played out okay.
There is a lot of action in this book – pirates attacking while trying to get through a canal. A man falls overboard and it’s discovered it’s murder! And then huge action scene at the end. The final action was over the top and not my favorite. But, overall I enjoyed this one.
Grade: B-
Rydell Case’s ship is his home, his heart, and his reason for being. After his ex-wife left him—taking his brand-new megayacht, Tesoro Mio with her—she sailed off with a royal billionaire and out of his life forever. Now Ry spends his days searching for treasure—until his ship is hijacked. With the prospect of his salvage business tanking, he needs both the ship and his ex back—if only she didn’t despise him more than any man on earth. . .
When Addison D’Marco boards Tesoro Mio to find her ex-husband in her cabin, she’s furious. Ry is more handsome, more annoying, and more determined than ever. Addy can’t believe he has the nerve to demand the ship back after the way he broke her heart. With her fiancé about to board, she doesn’t want Ry back in her life to ignite painful memories and never- forgotten desires. But could it be that, amid troubled waters, Addy and Ry can salvage what they once had and have a second chance at love. . .or does fate have something else in store?
Review:
For being an action romance, there was a lot of emotional punch in this story. I really liked Addy and Ry and really felt so sorry for them for their loss, not just their daughter but each other. Then to find out the betrayal that kept them apart. I did find the ending very satisfying, though a bit rushed compared to the rest of the book.
Of course there was action and adventure. Even though they were after a salvage it took a back seat to the other intrigue going on. I know that may not make a lot of sense, but it would give away some spoilers other wise. This could be read as a stand alone, in case you read them out of order.

In the past I have really enjoyed Cherry Adair series each one had just the right amount of cheese, romance and suspense would keep me hooked.
Hurricane and the other Cutter Clay series seem to fall really flat. Don't get me wrong she still had her fun one liners "She was so horny her eyeballs throbbed." and "She might hate him in the daylight hours, but her subconscious ached for him in her dreams."
As A reader the book had too many I love her I hate he. I love him and I hate them. It was over and over again to the point I was skipping pages to get past the endless love hate which is though out the book.
There are the over the top Villains, Steamy sex that you have and heck of an ending but in all this book leaves the cutter clay series flat.
Thank you to the publisher for an Advance Copy
HURRICANE the 5th book in the CUTTER CAY series... I didn't think I could like Rydell ..I was right I LOVE Ry... He and Addy have been through hell ..first the loss of a baby and then tricked by her (I really hate ) her mother and the Prince Darshie.. There a lot of action and in this book and it is quite the page turner.... and my HEA......Needless to say I loved it...
This is book 5 in the "Cutter Cay" Series and although the books can be read as standalones I think the read is more enjoyable if you read them in order.
This is the story of Rydell and Addison. Their past is sad and heartbreaking. They lost a baby and they couldn't cope with the pain and after some time, their marriage was broken. Chapter after chapter we learn more about the characters and what really happened and we understand a lot of things.
There is a huge twist towards the end and I really enjoyed this story.

The first title in the series did not work for me, but I decided to also attempt this one. Unfortunately, I had the same response to the second title. I like the author, but I think this is a series that isn't working for me.
Thanks,
Laura
**I received a copy of Hurricane from St. Martin's Press and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**
Hurricane by Cherry Adair is the fifth book in her Cutter Cay series. There are hints of a back story about Rydell and Addison's marriage and the hijacking of his Sea Dragon boat by pirates. But Hurricane has pirates, art thieves, treasure hunting and a sketchy prince who is trying to sell Tesoro Mio with or without permission. While I enjoyed the book, I couldn't help feeling that I was missing the back story between Rydell, Addison, their previous ship, Sea Dragon and why they divorced, but I would give the book a 3.8 star for the entire story. Perhaps there will be another book in the future that will explain things further.
Addison D'Marco is part owner in Rydell Case's mega yacht, she received it after their divorce and now has plans to sell it once they reach Sydney, Australia. But when she boards in Rome, she discovers that Rydell has no intention of selling as he plans on using it to find a shipwreck in the Maldive Islands. But first she needs to convince Prince Naveen that she doesn't want to marry him because she still loves her ex-husband Ry. But first they must transit the Suez Canal without being over taken by pirates and solve the mystery of why there is stolen painting on board the Tesoro Mio. Little does she know that a family member is involved in planning to hijack the ship. But can Ry and Addison rekindle their romance that never left them?
Rydell Case need to find this the shipwreck off the coast of the Maldives or he will lose everything including trying to convince Addison that he still loves her. An unknown investor that worked with the Case family wants their money back yesterday, so Ry must find this ship wreck. However, when he finds out that Addison's mother may have been the person who broke them apart after the sudden death of their baby and sinking of their other ship, The Sea Dragon by pirates. But when the ship is boarded again by men who are determined to take Tesoro Mio from them, Addison's mother suddenly shows up and the Prince turns out to be a frog with secrets of his own. It will take everything Ry and his crew has to take back the ship and Addison.
Being a treasure hunter is much like being a gambler as Rydell Case very well knows. After his gambit to have his sister spy on his competition for him failed spectacularly, Ry decided to cut his losses and move on. Only, he can't go very far because his ship was hijacked and destroyed and the only option available to him is to temporarily take over his ex-wife's ship, which was supposed to be his pride and joy until it was awarded to her in the divorce settlement, to salvage the biggest find of his career as quickly as possible or risk losing everything he's worked so hard to build. But Ry isn't going to pass up a chance to win his wife back, even if she is engaged to another man.
Addison D’Marco would prefer to have a continent between herself and her ex-husband but she's not so lucky since he commandeered her ship and sharing the close quarters aboard with him and her fiancé is a really tight fit, especially as the painful memories threaten to overwhelm her.
Addy and Ry cannot avoid each other for long and soon they have to deal with their past and the fact that the destruction of their marriage was helped along by people they trusted. Along with the happening on board, maybe having Ry there may be to Addy's advantage as he will do anything to keep her safe.
I read this series backwards, staring with this book first and I'm glad I did because Ry was horrible in the preceding book and I probably won't have read this one if I read in order. He came across as arrogant and selfish and unfeeling, but underneath all of that was a man who felt he didn't measure up and tried hard to do so, even as fate conspired to deal him blow after blow to knock him down. It was really easy to root for his success in the face of all the bad luck he was dealing with.
Addy on the other hand was a pampered and spoiled socialite, really selfish and shallow. Even though the author tried to gin up sympathy for her, I really did not like her and the choices she made that put others a risk sealed it for me.
Addy and Ry's relationship was very dysfunctional and took up a big part of the story, but the nefarious cast of characters and intrigue and suspense they brought with them served to excite my interest. Like I said in my review of Stormchaser, this series bring to mind the Indiana Jones movies and if you enjoyed them or love adventure, mysteries and suspense, then you will definitely enjoy this book and series.
Hurricane by Lori Foster is the next book in this series which has more of a focus on Rydell Chase, their salvage archenemy. Yet, reading this story gives Rydell Chase a story and a personality and I now have as much sympathy for him as I have all the Cutter guys. This man has lost so much and he is really a caring guy, at least for the love that " got away". I am not as much a fan of Addison as she seemed very naive to me, and as much as at fault for the demise of this couple as Ryder was. This was a second chance novel, a pretty good romantic suspense, with enough drama that it had a story that held together. For me that me, having a storyline that is more than just a romance. I tend to need more of a plot, and Ms Adair always gives me that. Since this is the 6th book in the Cutter Cay series, I was familiar with salvage hunting in the ocean, but if this is your first read of the series, it is certainly a good one to start with. Thanks as always to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this for an honest review. Definitely 4 stars!
I really enjoyed this second-chance romance that had plenty of surprises I wasn't expecting. Rydell was not the character I was expecting and I ended up really liking him. The steamy scenes were fantastic. I really enjoyed this book!
Hurricane by Cherry Adair
Cutter Bay #5
Treasure to be salvaged from under the sea, a salvage boat required to do the salvaging, pirates to defend against, black market art buyers and the thieves providing them canvases…well…and a second chance at love for Rydell “Ry” Case and Addison “Addy” D’Marco are just a few of the issues to be dealt with in this action-packed romantic suspense. In spite of what the Cutters had to say about Rydell Case in book four of this series I found him likable and a true alpha boyfriend. At first I thought that Addison was a spoiled rich girl unworthy of Ry but then as the story unfolded and truths came to light I really felt rather sorry for both Ry and Addy and wanted the many villains of this story to get their comeuppance – and most of them did. I am eager to see what will happen in book six of the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I must say I'm glad I gave this one a chance because I enjoyed it so much more than the last book I read in this series. In this one Rydell Case wants a chance to win his wife back. Working hard towards that end he finds himself in an immense amount of trouble. His company is failing and now his ship has been hijacked. There's only one place to turn. His ex wife Addison D'Marco. There will definitely be stormy seas ahead.
This one has lots of adventure and some super steamy sexy times making it a very good read. I would definitely recommend it.
This is book 5 in the Cutter Cay series. I recommend reading the previous books as there are some tie-ins to them but this book will also stand on its own. This one is about Rydell Case and his ex-wife Addison D'Marco. Rydell is the "bad guy" from the previous books in the series. With the risk of him losing his business he basically hijacks the ship that his ex-wife got in their divorce to try to save it. But he is also there to try to win Addy back. Addison extremely angry with him and at first you won't know why although you may think you do. Plot twist at that point. And it's heartbreaking!! I loved this book. I was all prepared to hate Ry based off the other books. But he is just a stand up guy and I loved him. The characters were great and had chemistry together. The writing was great. There were twists and turns and definitely some unexpected moments. It even made me cry when you find out what happened to drive them apart. And then the ending? LOVED IT! Honestly, this series is one of my favorites and I am really hoping we get a book about Peri next!
Addison (Addy) and Rydell have been divorced for a year when he "hijacks" their megayacht Tesoro Mio. Rydell desperately needs to get to a dive site and recover coins from a shipwreck before the Cutters get wind of it.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I read Stormchaser and really didn't like it. But this book grabbed my attention in the first chapter. It's a great 2nd chance romance with really great characters. I fell in love with Ry.. I really couldn't figure how Addy could've let him go so easily. He is hardworking, ambitious, dedicated and sexy as all get out. That said, her character eventually did evolve into someone I could sympathize with.
I haven't read the first 3 books, I'm not sure I will. But this book was really good. I actually got a book hangover. The emotional parts really got to me. It was as if I was right there in the cabin with them.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley for my honest, unbiased opinion.
This isn't typical Cherry Adair fare, instead it's a more traditional romance about devastating loss, family betrayal, and reunited love.
I enjoyed the book, but found myself a little distracted, waiting for a supernatural spin to crop up in the story. Never happened. I liked the characters much better by the end of the book; at first I didn't like either one and gave consideration to abandoning the book. I'm glad I didn't, as it was really good.
Hurricane by Cherry Adair
Romantic suspense. Vintage Cherry Adar. A fast read I engaged with immediately and didn't want to put down.
The first page descriptions with the high end designer names worried me a little since I don't follow high fashion, but the name dropping slowed considerably.
I didn't think I would like Rydell since he was the enemy business person in the series, but I found him extremely likable in this book. He may have appeared cold initially but we knew he was hurting from missing Addison.
Overall, I really enjoyed this romantic suspense for the flow, the main characters likability.
It seems to be the last in the series. It can be read as a stand alone.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley.
I would recommend reading this series in order. I started with book 4 a couple weeks ago and I was confused enough that I didn't enjoy the story as much as I think I would have if I'd had that background. I already had this book in my possession so I went ahead and read this book next and I enjoyed this one way more. I'm still confused about the animosity between Rydell and the Cutters, but that was the only piece of information I felt was missing in this book and didn't hamper my overall enjoyment of Rydell and Addison's story.
That being said, their story was heartbreaking. They lost a baby to SIDS and due to manipulations from others, lost their marriage as well. In the beginning I didn't know if I should be hating Rydell or Addison. The more information I gained with each chapter I realized things weren't as they seemed. I can say this story had me much more invested in these two and finding out what really happened and how they were going to repair all that damage.
The plot twist towards the end was exciting and overall, this was a great read! Arc provided by Netgalley.
FINAL DECISION: A story that perfectly balanced angst, drama, adventure and good old fashioned sexiness. Two people who haven't recovered from the failure of their marriage discover that what they really need is one another.
THE STORY: Rydell Case's life fell apart just over a year ago when he lost a big salvage to his business enemies the Cutters, his wife left him and things just kept falling apart as his ship was hijacked. Now, Rydell is determined to salvage silver from another wreck but he needs the boat his wife got in the divorce to do it. And he intends to get the boat no matter what he needs to do. Addison D'Marco can't believe the nerve of Ry to come and take over her ship when he hasn't spoken to her in over a year. She is determined to move on perhaps with the man who has asked her to marry him - but how can she do that when Ry is here and sexier than ever.
OPINION: This book was an exciting ride from the start with a great deal of heart and angst. I really loved it! Ry and Addy are so perfect for one another from the start that readers are taken on a journey to discovery what destroyed their marriage. The story is so sad and emotional that it gives this story depth and drama.
Ry is a man who has almost hit bottom. His entire world is falling apart around him and he is determined to stop the slide and recover. His taking of Addy's ship allows him to both search for his underwater treasure and also have the possibility of confronting Addison. Ry was the villain in the prior book but this book gives his side of the story which is more sympathetic than I expected. In fact, I found his story so persuasive, that I thought that Addy had the wrong side in this one.
Addy begins the book believing that she was the injured party. My one complaint about this book is that she doesn't really ever acknowledge her part in the disintegration of her marriage. Honestly, I thought that she was wrong at least as much as Ry was. While she is angry at him, she really needed to accept that she was the accessory to everything that happened.
At the same time, this book doesn't wallow in its emotional drama. There is good dose of actual adventure drama to keep the story hopping. Just when it seems that the story between Ry and Addison might be resolved, the plot picks up and there is much going on. Murders, hijackings, danger, shoot outs. There is plenty here for anyone who wants either emotional drama and depth or action and adventure.
WORTH MENTIONING: Content warning SPOILER!!
This book deals with SIDS and the death of a child.
CONNECTED BOOKS: HURRICANE is the fifth book in the Cutter Cay series. While there are overlapping characters, this book can be read as a complete standalone.
STAR RATING: I give this book 4.5 stars.
NOTE: I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in order to provide a review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.
I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I started this book after book 4 either. Ry wasn't exactly the nicest guy and so I was prepared for just about anything.
I wasn't prepared for her highness Addison and her attitude despite what she thought she deserved.
Pfft. I liked Ry in this book and all the intrigue and drama kept me glued to the pages. Ry's had a rough go and is willing to do anything to get what he needs, even if it means dealing with Addison and her LV baggage. Yup there was steam a plenty, intrigue and suspense and a couple of times I held my breath in this one.
Summing it up, I loved it. I'm going to back up and read the first three. Cherry is a great writer and really knows how to keep us flipping those pages.
