Threads of Suspicion is a enduring book you want to settle down and get ready for a major ride. A ride that has twist and turns. Yes but it also goes upside down in a heartbeat and with you unawares. Meanwhile you have your romantic partner there making sure you feel safe. That is how you feel reading this book, romantic, safe, with some mysterious vibes that smacks you in the face and surprises the crap out of you, but you enjoy it then you get upset because you find you are at the end of the book and you cannot wait until you find out that Ms. Henderson wrote another one.

I love reading Dee Henderson's stories! She has a way of weaving a story together and tying new and old characters together. This new series continues looking into the life of Evie and revisiting some characters from previous books. Great story and I can't wait for more from Dee Henderson!

It’s always a good month when a new Dee Henderson book hits the shelves!

Threads of Suspicion is the second book focused on Evie Blackwell and Illinois’s Missing Persons Task Force. Much to my delight, it continues Henderson’s habit of appearances by previous characters – Ann and Paul Falcon, Sharon Noble, John Lawson, and even a mention of Bryce Bishop. Now if only she’d bring Mark Bishop back for a cameo! Or Joe “Bear” Baker and his SEAL team….

Dee Henderson’s books often feature law enforcement or military characters and plots, and I love the mysterious atmosphere she’s created in this one. Threads of Suspicion splits its focus between two cases: Evie’s investigation into a missing college student, and her partner David Marshall’s into a PI’s disappearance. Neither cop anticipates the overlap between their cases – or how their investigation will reveal danger stalking David’s fiancée Maggie. And…you’ll just have to read it yourself to find out what happens!

I liked how the partnership between David and Evie is so central to the plot. The author focuses on this relationship, though we still see plenty of the pair’s personal lives. Evie and David have never worked together before this task force, but they quickly grow to appreciate one another’s dedication and friendship. Their cases take some interesting twists and turns through the Midwest. As a girl who grew up doing puzzles and reading Nancy Drew mysteries, I adored this novel.

A fantastic addition to the Dee Henderson shelf in my personal library. It was SO good – a little romance, a little mystery, and a whole lotta puzzle-solving. Can’t wait to read what comes next!

If you like facts then you'll love this book. If you love everything from Dee Henderson then you will love this book. If you want suspense then don't read this book. Dee is one of my favorite authors of suspense but for some reason she has stopped writing suspense in her books. There is a lot of information given and great characters and character development but when it comes down to the wire on something suspenseful happening it falls short, the case is solved, the killer dies, etc. it just isn't there. I was very disappointed. I love the O'Malley series and some of her later books but the last four or five have just fallen short of the mark.

When I saw this book description offered by Bethany House I knew I had to request. Christian fiction - win. Mystery - win. Cold case files - bonus. I knew it was the second book in a series but since I was getting the eBook version through NetGalley I decided that if I started it lost I'd set it aside and grab the first book before reading and reviewing. And while I know there is crossover with previous character development it worked just fine on it's own so I just kept on reading. Knowing full well I'll go back and grab the first book too, because I can and want to. Not have to mind you but want to. As I was reading I didn't expect to get so caught up in the lives of all those involved. Evie with her boyfriend and her hard decisions about taking the next step. David and his super famous fiance and their hard decisions about taking the next step. The cold cases they were working and the lives that were changed because of what happened, and never knowing for sure what happened. The way their totally unrelated cases overlapped into each other and intertwined with their personal lives. All of it was engaging. Which makes me wonder how on Earth anyone can write a synopsis of a mystery that is engaging without giving anything away? I feel like I always miss the mark but gravy if I'm throwing out spoilers!

There were a couple of drawbacks for me in this book, outside a mostly positive overall experience. First, at times the faith in the book felt awkward. Even the times where it fit into the story so well it took an awkward feel to it as though 'I've got to get as much in here as possible so if a little is good a lot is better'. That approach is sorta like salt and cooking. When it's the right amount in the right food it's perfect. A lot doesn't make it better. And even a little in the wrong thing doesn't work either. It wasn't a huge negative but I think the edges could have been smoothed a bit. The other biggie was the lack of scene segues or even just scene breaks period. A conversation one day goes right into another thought the next day. An inner monologue between two different days doesn't really do it either. I'd have to go back and reread a paragraph or two just to make sure I hadn't totally missed something. I didn't it just didn't break naturally. So, that out of the way lets talk good stuff.

And good stuff there is. Henderson does an amazing job of writing a mystery with real people and real lives that draws you in. I care about these characters, I care about their victims and I care about their lives. And when the mysteries were solved I was taken right into it. Evie's mystery? Kept me guessing right up to the end. Though how on earth those bones weren't found on accident during a scuffle or some roughhousing (I guess you have a baby spoiler there) I will never understand. They just appeared too easily for how little physical effort it took. But it took me through to the very end. That makes an amazing mystery to me! Like I said, this book had characters that I engaged with and I can't wait to go back and read the first book. And the upcoming books in this series!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Bethany House and NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

This is the second Evie Blackwell story, and I was a bit disappointed. This book didn't hold my attention as well as other books written by Henderson. While I have read the previous book, I didn't feel as connected to the characters.

Evie Blackwell has been assigned to the Missing Persons Task Force. She is partnered with David Marshall to solve two cold cases from the same county but are thought to be unrelated. Evie's case is about a young college co-ed who turned up missing after a concert. David's case is about a missing private detective. Through many twists and turns of the plot, Evie and David find clues to link these cases together.

David and Evie work diligently to solve their mysteries. After pulling on different strings, the right one is found that unravels the mystery. There are things in both David and Evie's lives that need to be resolved, so you know there is at least one more book to be written.

While the characters are fully developed, the story didn't move fast enough for me. I was able to put the book down and walk away from it. Usually I can't put the book down, and I finish it over two days. This book is about solving some mysteries, without the romance. Yes there are couples in the book, but they are maintaining a relationship instead of building one from scratch. I missed this. Henderson still has her characters struggling with issues. David's girlfriend isn't a believer, but we see her questioning if God is real at the very end of the story. She hasn't made a decision yet, so that may come in the next installment. Evie is close to accepting a proposal, but again it isn't for sure before the book comes to a close. Hopefully the next book will bring about some of these resolutions.

While this book isn't going into one of my favorites, I look forward to the next installment to see if I like that book better than this one.

My thanks to Netgalley and Bethany House Publishers for the free e-copy of the book in exchange for my review.

I took a break from my regular go-to Christian Historical reads and picked up this gem! She chooses to work on the case of Jenna, a missing college girl. Her partner, David, chooses to work on the cold case of Saul, a missing PI. I love how the author depicts a "day in the life" of a detective going through evidence, conducting interviews, etc and sharing a breakdown of how to break a case. Evie and David discover many similarities in their cases and, while they are working on their own respective cases, find ways to work together to help each other solve the cases they have presented to them.

Evie and David have a great mutual respect for each other and the work that they do. It could be (and was) enjoyed as a stand-alone book. That being said, there are several looming questions that I have that will no doubt be covered in the next book in this series!! I love Evie! I love the way she thinks and how passionate she is about her work. I also love how she is uncertain in some areas of her life. She’s far from the “perfect” crime fighter.

In this story we meet David Marshal fellow task force member and boyfriend of a well known singer, Margaret May McDonald. I really like David. He brought another level of strategy to solving the cold cases they were faced with. The story line between him and Maggie was excellent and not yet resolved.

One of the things I love about Henderson’s stories is how she weaves characters from her other books into the current one. In this book I especially enjoyed how she weaved Charlotte Bishop into the story. (We met Charlotte in Unspoken. )

The story was also very well done. Henderson gives some misdirection throughout in trying to solve what happened to Jenna. As many of Henderson’s recent books this one is over 400 pages, but it moves at a good pace and she doesn’t bury us with too much detail.

Definitely recommend me this to Henderson fans and if you are new to Dee Henderson this would be a very good story to start with. Although, it is a book two you can read it independently from book one.

I have been a fan of the author, Dee Henderson's work for many years. Many, many years (I am not confessing how many) but I was delighted when I discovered Dee Henderson's Evie Blackwell series. The first book, which I found in my library, is called Traces of Guilt and now the story continues with Threads of Suspicion, released May 2nd, 2017.

I am not a speed reader, so I found myself wishing I could read faster so that I could find out who the guilty one was....Evie and her cold case task force have cases to solve and in the end, the solution is so obvious, I can't even give you a hint, it would spoil the whole thing. How did I not notice? Anyway, the story is written in classic Dee Henderson style, the pieces of the puzzle of these murders, how they happened and who did it. coming together piece by piece. Layers behind this is Evie's personal dilemma. She has a marriage proposal on the table and she is hesitant to say "yes" for reasons she can't explain.

David is Evie's co-worker and it is a good thing he is already taken....he is superstar Maggie's guy. You will quickly fall in love with him, his heart and character are enduring, and although he has a personal dilemma of his own, the way he treats Maggie and the women in his life gives him five stars in my book.

(SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVE NOT READ BOOK 1) Ok, I confess, I secretly wanted Evie to end up with the guy from Traces of Guilt, but I guess that is not going to happen. Although......you never know what is going to happen in the next book? The romance in this book is very light and almost of a more mature nature, no raging hormones and stolen kisses.

I anxiously await book 3 in the Evie Blackwell Cold Case Series.

Dee Henderson is, hands down, my favorite author with a contemporary setting. I will never stop loving how she weaves characters in from previous stories, allowing us to visit with old friends while not leaving out anyone new to town. Henderson also manages to incorporate real struggles of faith without offering the reader the answer on a silver platter. There's always at least one moment in her books when I have a "you mean it's not just me?" realization. As always, Henderson's tale was woven expertly. Definitely worth the read.

Another suspenseful story as Evie joins the Missing Persons Task Force. Evie gets a new partner and somehow their two cases intertwine to make this a very fast pace story with lots of twists and turns. This makes a great missing person's adventure.

This is a perfectly named book! In the first half of the book there are so many threads that must be explored before Evie, with her co-investigator David, begins to find answers and narrow down the possibilities to the final conclusion.

I will make the disclaimer that some people may find this particular writing style very difficult to get into. I can’t say it was absolutely riveting, but as someone who really likes Dee Henderson I was prepared to stick it out. And obviously these are cold cases so they don’t have the same ‘thriller’ feel that others of her books do. Not only that, but I think her writing style portrays reality. A lot of the everyday life of detectives, etc. isn’t all thrilling and rush-rush, but more of just searching for threads to pull. I think she did a great job of portraying that.

So things don’t start to pick up much until 50% and then the action steadily rises until the last chapters where the climax is reached and the resolution is complete.

I really did enjoy this book and David and Maggie’s side story is so sweet as well as Jim and Lynne’s. I don’t know if their stories will see a little more resolution as this series continues, but I sure hope so! Also anxious to see how Evie and Rob’s story progresses. In the first book, I was not invested in their relationship at all and was rooting for another guy, but in this one, Rob’s character is fleshed out a little more and I really like him.

So overall, it was a great story and I’m giving it 4 stars!

I should probably preface this review with the confession that I am a huge fan of Dee Henderson’s and have yet to find a book of her’s that I don’t love, so this might be slightly biased. Okay, with that behind us, I have to say that I so enjoyed this book! It is the second in her “Evie Blackwell Cold Case” series and was excellent! You can read it as a standalone, but I highly recommend the first book as well! This one picks up about a month after the first one ends and captures the formation of the Missing Person’s Task Force and their first cases. I enjoyed diving into this story and watching the mystery unravel as they plotted theories and chased leads. I found myself debating “whodunit” even after laying the book down and I couldn’t wait to scoop it back up and escape into Lieutenant Evie Blackwell’s world for a few more hours.
Ms. Henderson’s writing is phenomenal, as always! I’ve never figured out how to fully describe it, but something about her writing draws me in immediately and doesn’t let go. I finish one of her books and feel as though the characters have become dear friends that I can’t wait to revisit during my next spare moment. I love how she’s including characters from past books, like Ann and Paul Falcon, as well as a few other familiar names, and at the same time introducing me to new people that I can’t resist loving. Like Evie’s new partner on the task force, David Marshal. If he wasn’t already taken . . . . And even some of the suspects were people I found myself really liking and hoping they weren’t guilty. I have to admit that the only person that I didn’t quite fall in love with was Evie’s guy, Rob Turney. I really missed Gabriel Thane from “Traces of Guilt” and wanted him to come back.
One of the differences I’m noticing with this new series is how much of the story is dedicated to the mystery at hand. There isn’t much romance, though I don’t find that to be a bad thing, just different. And I do love the mystery! Evie and David both have unique ways of working a cold case and I enjoyed walking through the cases with them. I found myself debating Evie’s theories with her and making up some of my own, or wishing I could join David on his interviews and try to help him solve the case. I also enjoyed all of the technical details and the extra aspects of the investigation. It may seem like too much information for some, but I mostly found it rather fascinating, seeing how each of their styles brought new thing to light, or rearranged the facts for various theories. The story occasionally reminded me of an episode of Criminal Minds or something similar. I wasn’t even close to guessing “whodunit” and couldn’t anticipate the outcome, something that I admittedly love! I appreciate a book that can keep me on my toes and flipping pages as quickly as I can, though I do have to admit that I found the story a little dark at times and had to put it down and do something else for a bit, before being able to dive back into it.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries that keep you guessing!

This is the second in the Evie Blackwell series. While there were some references to the previous book, this novel reads well on its own.

Evie is on a state task force to solve cold cases. The plot follows the current investigation of a college woman gone missing years ago, the case never having progressed to an arrest. Do to the nature of the plot, this is a novel of police procedure. Except for a very brief experience near the end, there is no suspense in the novel.

This is very much a character driven plot. Much of the novel is about Evie and, David, another cold case investigator. They share an office and talk about their cases. Much of the novel consists of detailed conversations about the investigations, options for further investigation, theories and speculation. I felt some of it was repetitive. We also learn much about Evie and David and their dating lives. David is dating a popular singer so we also learn quite a bit about concerts and the life of a music star. There are also long passages of character thought, especially Evie. Evie and David are Christians and there is a good presentation of the Christian viewpoint and the gospel.

I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy a police procedure novel that is much more about the characters involved than suspense. I felt it slow going but then I like a quick moving plot with plenty of action. With that in mind, I would like the book to be about a hundred pages fewer. A reader who likes getting lost in the lives of the investigators is much better suited to enjoy this novel.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Threads of Suspicion by Dee Henderson

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Story Notes

This latest Evie Blackwell Cold Case is anything but cold and Dee Henderson makes sure her readers will read to the very last page to discover the extremely elusive culprit. Her ability to make you feel like you are the one investigating the case or belong in the situation she presents is why I and so many others always love her books. This new series brings a whole new meaning to the word Tenacious, with a team dedicated to solving the crimes law enforcement has deemed unsolvable. Evie has picked a missing person’s case involving a college student who disappeared without a trace and whose body was never found. As she dives into the police reports and investigation notes she finds a thoroughness in them that makes her confident the detectives and officers in charge worked the case as far as they could before all leads ran out. But with the FBI and the Governors office behind her, Evie hopes to use all her resources to find out what happened and bring the family the closure they desire. Digging deep below the surface of people’s lives is her life’s work and the deeper she digs into Jenna Greenhill, the more she finds that Jenna was not the sweet, smart friend parents and professors believed her to be. Jenna specialized in manipulation and used her “friends” to get her whatever she wanted, be it a new “boyfriend” or just the attention of everyone around. And this manipulation leads Evie to a suspect pool that grows larger with every question she asks. Evie has learned well from her mentor, Ann Falcon, that more information is always the best way to solve one’s case and although it means lots of reading and sorting this will serve Evie well when she starts finding ‘threads’ she can pull to find an answer to the mystery of Jenna’s disappearance. When one of the threads starts to lead in a direction that becomes personal for Evie’s friends and co-workers, she begins to pray the answers will not bring trouble or harm to those she loves most. Add to this the discovery that everyone who was interviewed after Jenna’s disappearance did not tell all they knew and Evie will have to work hard and fast to eliminate her ever expanding list of suspects. As she follows the evidence she begins to see that her case may be connected to other missing person’s cases that have yet to be fully resolved as well. And the linchpin of those connections may be the concert performances of her co-worker David Marshall’s fiancée, Maggie McDonald. Ms. Henderson brings from this tangled ball of threads a conclusion that is sure to leave her readers feeling that all questions were answered and all culprits caught. I loved reading every page of this story, from the descriptive ways that Ms. Henderson had Evie set up her suspect/questions boards to the interviews she conducted with those suspects. It was very much like walking alongside an investigator’s daily work without the aching feet to show for it. I also loved that Ms. Henderson included another case alongside the Greenhill disappearance that Evie consulted on. David has chosen to work the cold case of a missing PI who disappeared in the middle of multiple cases, several of which could have been the reason for his disappearance. I enjoyed seeing how Evie and David worked separately and together on both cases, each bringing new ideas and theories for the happenings of the crimes. Ms. Henderson was careful to give each their own distinctive voice and method of approaching a case. Their discussion of how they go about examining the evidence and reports was a fun conversation that helped me understand their ways of thinking about a case. And that Ms. Henderson also included excellent insights into both Evie and David’s personal lives was another of my favorite parts of this story. Evie is trying to sort out whether she loves her boyfriend Rob Turney enough to marry him, and if she will fit well into his life permanently. She loves that he is there for her at all times and that he lets her do her job without getting offended when the job breaks their plans. But is that enough to build a marriage on? And could she be the wife Rob needs to support his reputation as a much-sought-after fiscal banking advisor. David helps Evie ask the tough questions about her and Rob, making sure she tells Rob what her concerns are and how they can work through them. Ms Henderson is careful not to close out all of Evie’s relationship questions though, keeping the ultimate conclusion of that for another story in the series. With David, Ms. Henderson takes on the difficult situation of a person who has recently become a Christian but who is also engaged to a person who is not a Christian. I was thrilled to see that she made the situation as complicated as it should be but tempered it with kindness and grace. David loves Maggie very deeply but knows he can’t marry her unless she becomes a Christian. However he doesn’t feel God is calling him to break things off with Maggie, rather he understands that he must wait and let God bring her to Himself in His timing. Their story is so wonderfully powerful and sweet, showing that following God may be painful but trust is required if we wish to have the best that God has for us. Ms. Henderson closes out her story with the conclusion of both cases and both relationships growing in new and better ways. She also included a great new character named Lori Nesbitt who I hope will take on a larger role in later books. Ms. Henderson provides the perfect segue way between her books by solving the relevant crimes but leaving the persons involved incomplete in their decisions, both personally and professionally. I’m greatly looking forward to seeing how she will bring about the next phase of cold cases and personal lives of her characters. I have already recommended this book multiple times to others and will certainly continue to do so. Thank you Ms. Henderson for such a well written story!

I received this E-book free of charge from Bethany House Publishers via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation from either company for this review.

If you enjoy police procedurals, Dee Henderson’s Evie Blackwell series has some of the most detailed investigations I’ve read. As with the first novel in this series, this is more mystery than suspense, but the intellectual challenge involved in solving these cases made for fascinating reading. Short of actually doing the detective work yourself, you couldn’t get a much more realistic experience.

That being said, there’s a point at which realism becomes mundane in a novel, and I found myself reaching this point several times in this book. There’s lots of introspection and internal dialogue as Evie thinks things through. Discussions about what Evie and David will order in for a meal, who’s doing what and meeting whom when, and other such trivial matters are included in full, right along with extensive brainstorming sessions, talking through theories and ideas, and planning what their next step will be. It’s all seamlessly interwoven, completely natural, and interesting to a point, but it would have benefited from being trimmed down in the editing process. As it was, I inevitably found myself skimming these parts, wanting the story to get moving again.

I think this story also suffered a bit due to a lack of scene-by-scene tension. Despite the intellectual challenge these cold-cases presented and the unresolved state of both Evie’s and David’s romantic relationships (more on that in a moment), many individual scenes and conversations lacked the kind of internal tension that keeps a book’s pulse ticking. I think that’s largely due to the characters themselves. They all approach and respond to things with a well-regulated evenness of temper. They’re always polite, considerate, understanding, and in perfect control of themselves. It's a nice idea, and probably something to aspire to, but on the page it becomes ho-hum, especially if there’s nothing else happening to drive the story forward at that point.

In terms of the romance, both Evie and David are already in long-term relationships at the opening of the novel, and there is no suggestion that this will change, but both are working through some things that are preventing them from taking that final step to marriage. David’s story, in particular, is an interesting one, and although he isn’t a POV character in this novel (except for a scene or two at the end), I’ll be interested to see how his story develops. However, once again, a lot of the romantic tension is mitigated by the extremely rational (as opposed to emotional) way they each approach their situations.

To sum up, this is a unique series for those who enjoy the challenge of solving the unsolvable with a bit (or a lot) of old-fashioned detection and deduction. If you don’t mind the slower pacing, it makes for a good read.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This has not influenced the content of my review.

I've been waiting a year for the next book in the Evie Blackwell cold case series. Thread of Suspicion by Dee Henderson came out this May and is just as good as the first book, Traces of Guilt.

Sharon Noble is in charge of a Missing Persons task force that was appointed by the governor. Evie is one of the members of the task force. In this book, she's partnered with David Marshall. Each of member of the task force is investigating their own missing persons case.
Evie chose the missing college girl and David chose the PI to investigate. It was fascinating how each of them had their own way of researching. David also has an interesting personal life that intertwines with the story. It was fascinating the research they go through and the different possible suspects and all the secrets that people have. On a personal note, Evie is still trying to figure out her feelings for Robert. There is a proposal on the table when she is ready. Dee wrote a more realistic story/romance regarding Evie and Robert. It's good, but I always prefer a fairytale romance where the couple are soulmates and destined to be together.
Ann and Paul also played a small role in this book. Ann helps Evie with some of her research. Ann always has fascinating friends and we meet a new one who I hope returns in future books.
The faith element is woven into the story seamlessly. They mystery of the cold cases is so fascinating I truly believe any fan of mystery, secular or Christian will love the book. Dee Henderson is a master at intertwining stories and keeping you in suspense. This is proven to be a great series. I wish we didn’t have to wait a year for the next one.
Sexual content: kissing
Violence: they are working cold cases, so people are missing, presumed dead, discussions on what may have happened to them

Evie Blackwell's reputation as a top investigator for the Illinois State Police has landed her an appointment to the governor's new Missing Persons Task Force. This elite investigative team is launched with plenty of public fanfare. The governor has made this initiative a high priority, so they will have to produce results--and quickly.

Evie and her new partner, David Marshal, are assigned to a pair of unrelated cases in suburban Chicago, and while both involve persons now missing for several years, the cases couldn't be more different. While Evie opens old wounds in a close-knit neighborhood to find a missing college student, David searches for a private investigator working for a high-powered client.

With a deep conviction that "justice for all" truly matters, Evie and David are unrelenting in their search for the truth. But Evie must also find answers to the questions that lie just beneath the surface in her personal life.

Evie is investigating the disappearance of a college student. As she digs dipper into the mystery, she finds a connections to several other missing young girls. Also, there seems to be a connection to David's personal life. David's missing person involves a missing PI. Is there a connection between the two disappearances?

God plays an important part in the characters lives. David show Evie it's important to pray for small things as well as big things.

There is a lot of details in the book. Some of them were interesting. Others not so much. It was a good book. But I prefer the older writing style of Ms. Henderson. Will I read more books by Ms. Henderson? Absolutely. I m looking forward to the next installment in this series.

I was given this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Although I did not enjoy this book as much as I did the first in the series, I still found it to be a good read. I like to have some suspense in my mystery reads, and I thought that was lacking a little bit. I also would have liked to see Evie's romance develop a little more, or at least her thoughts towards it in particular.

Aside from that I found myself intrigued by all the facts, Evie's thought process as she tried to piece the cold case together, and the interesting tie her case had to her partner David. The author does a fantastic job in making you feel as if you are a part of the case. You are seeing the facts, writing on the board, and trying to solve the puzzle. And just as in real cold cases, the facts don't come as quickly as we'd like, but you learn along the way. I'm glad she kept the speed of the story more realistic then just Evie going out, all of a sudden finding all this stuff and within days the case is solved.

I am still looking forward to the next book in this series. I am hoping Evie picks an exciting cold case to solve and we can see some movement in her love life! I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have mixed feelings on this story. I found it moved slowly and was bogged down with lots of details and theories for the cases but I also couldn’t put it down. Expect it wasn’t the cases that kept me in the story it was the characters personal lives that I cared the most about. We finally get to meet Evie’s Rob and experience the two together, it’s clear that Rob loves her for who she is but Evie is still unsure about marriage. The other major player in the story is David, a detective working with Evie on the task force. He is also in a relationship that’s not moving forward due to a difference in beliefs between himself and his fiancée, Maggie. I really liked David and his willingness to give Maggie the time she needs to figure out her feelings about God. However at the end there is no change in either couple’s relationships. I was hoping for some sort of resolution.

In respect to the mystery itself, David and Evie are working on two separate missing person cases that seem to not only intersect with each other but then take a personal turn for David. There were so many details and people that trying to keep everything straight was a bit overwhelming at times. David’s case gets solved which enables them to really focus on Evie’s case and the personal thread. After following many threads they eventually have a strong lead to follow, but can they catch him before someone else gets hurt? The ending seemed unsatisfying to me as once again there is really no justice served, just answers to what happened. Also the changing of scenes irritated me; it would just all of sudden change with no indication making it hard to follow.

I would have given this book a higher rating if I had felt more satisfaction with the ending, but the personal relationships ended in pretty much the same state as when the book opened and there was no justice served for the cases. Also there was no clear answer given of what motivated the villain. However I am now invested in Evie’s life enough that I will be waiting for the next book in hopes to get some closure to these personal relationships.
