I didn't know what to expect of this story at first, but overall I was happy i choose to read it. Yes there is a lot of twist in the storyline and at times its a little confusing. I had to go back a few times, to make sure I was following the story correct. Lots of sexy scenes that was super hot.
This book was just OK for me. I always recommend going ahead and reading a book, if it sounds interesting to you because I am just one person and just because I might not care too much for something, doesn't mean someone else might not love it.
This book is soo confusing yet it had me hooked there are so many twists turns pushes pulls that dang it sets its claws into you... the story that is.
Sarah Mercedes has been trapped on a private island for three years by Julius King. She’s got less than one month before she’s trapped with him forever. The problem is that he’s slowly managing to slither his way into her heart.
When I read the description of this book, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read it, but since I’d just read a story from this author in an anthology that blew me away, I knew I had to try it. All I can say is WOW. This was a story I couldn’t stop reading once I started. I read it late into the night because I couldn’t sleep without knowing how it ended. I was so in tune with everything Sarah was going through, I didn’t want it to end but I wanted it to hurry so I knew how it ended. I can’t wait to read more from this author. I highly recommend.
Wonderful read by Ms Barden! It was confusing at first wondering King's motivations for keeping her on the island the way he did and professing to love her. But as we delve more into the pages of the book, we start to understand King's motivations. A different read for me, but I liked it!
This story was strangely captivating. I couldn't stop reading it. Well done!
If you like romantic suspense, it doesn't get much better than King's Captive. I could not put it down once I started reading!
This had a twist I didn't see coming, made for a very enjoyable read!
A friend of mine told me that this book would be right up my alley so I took her advice and dove in. Only knowing a few things about this book I was super excited on what was to come.
Julius was psychopath but I loved him. I know what your thinking, how can I love a psychopath, well it's simple, I'm twisted like that. He has his redeeming qualities but he was like the big bad wolf.
Sarah was..... I don't even know. While reading the book I would feel two things from here. She had strength but at the same time she was a little week, it makes you wonder which one was real and which one was for show. I really did like her though.
My favorite part of this book was the secluded island and the pirates! I'm not going to go into it because you just have to read it, but it because so much more then just a captive women read.
This story is full of twists and turns that kept me guessing from the start. Some things were pretty predictable but at the same time, there were so many times I thought I know what was going to happen, but in reality I knew nothing.
Overall, this was pretty amazing. I thought I knew what was going to happen and there was a few predictable moments, but for the most part this author had me on the effluent of my seat and in shock. I think at one point I yelled WTF. I was thankful no one was around! I will be looking into more books my this authors. 4.5 stars #2OCCJD
This. Is. Everything!!!!!!!
Take away the fact that, yes, I love this author, this book will captivate you from the very beginning. Drawing you in to a story that has more anticipation and intrigue than any other book I've read from this author. Where I can usually figure out twists and turns, I was completely lost in the writing that I didn't WANT to figure it out. I wanted to read about it and let it transpire on it's own.
Julius King. Wow. You hate him, but you're intrigued enough to try to figure out what his angle is. What's his purpose in keeping this girl on this island, away from everything? Piece by piece, we start to realize just who King is. And his purpose? Wow, just wow!
The captive....Sarah. Baby. All she can think about is how King changed everything in her life. And now she's on this island, waiting. Waiting for the day to come that she put in motion. Except the closer she gets to the date, the closer she starts to see things. Things that are unraveling right before her eyes. Forcing her to finally see...the truth.
Did I speak in enough code for you? Good. There's NO WAY, I'm giving this away. Nope. You're gonna have to read this just like I did to truly understand what's going on. And trust me. You'll be just as captivated as I was. This is so good. I wish I could read this for the first time all over again!!!

Holy Hot Sauce... This book! Okay, so I figured out the surprise way way early--like before I made it to the 1/4 mark--but I did not see that twist coming. Totally unexpected. With romance novels, I tend to get burned out from time to time because it's so hard to camouflage the ending when the reader knows there's a HEA coming. This book pulled me out of a romance slump. Hallelujah. This story is complex and twisty and I loved it.
Rating: 4.5 stars ****
King’s Captive is a convoluted drama that drags out the who, what, where, why elements for so long that you forget what the whole point of the story is. This romance does not start out conventionally, but romance fans will quickly recognize that it is a classic opposites attract, or so the author would have you think. Yes, there is a bit of a twist that is as obvious as it is predictable. I appreciate that the author wanted to try something new. The reader does not even know who the leads are until well into the second act but wait, there’s a twist for that too), but the piecemeal way in which she reveals the characters is so choppy and contradictory that it has no flow. The pacing suffers as a result, and the transition between the past and present is rocky.
Nonetheless, if the erotica is what you’re after, you will find it in spades. However, how many digit ingressions can one female lead have without it seeming repetitive? A little variety would have gone a long way, but on a side note, cleaning fish and third base should be mutually exclusive events.
I started and stopped this story several times, and was finally rewarded with an ending that uses one of the most tried and true tropes that serves to fill in all the plot holes. King’s Captive wants to be fresh and unique, but using a dated detail of amnesia to explain the character’s behavior away just doesn’t cut it. Disappointing.
What an intense raw powerful novel! I am a dark romance lover and this was right up my alley. The hot unmistakable attraction between Julius and Sarah was off the walls! I was biting my nails wondering what was going to happen next, hoping their would be a happy ending for these two.
The suspense, mystery, a who done it romance all in one. A perfect read for dark romance fans.
I highly recommend reading this book..

4.5 stars (a little bit of a slow start)
Oh my, what kind of twisted fuckery did I just read. It started out I was thinking this dark and he's going to be all kinds of nasty. And he was (and so were others) but not in the way I was expecting. My mind is just blown. It was a great story with lots of twists and hot sexy scenes. Then mind blowing revelation. Go along, more secrets come out...and what?!?! Just all kinds of good stuff. She did annoying me just a wee little bit, but over all loved it.
The King's Captive is a stand alone and the most latest release from this author. Now I wasn't sure what I thought of this book, however after reading some positive reviews, they convinced me that I needed this book in my life. So this story takes us into a love story that is exciting, edgy, epic and emotionally driven that it will put the reader to tears. This story is not what you expect AT ALL and wow this author really surprises you. I mean honestly, there were so many unique twists to this story that you don't see coming. I don't want to reveal too much about this story which is why my layout for review is a bit different. Our heroine is scared but also drawn to her "captor" who she promised three years to if she agreed to marry him at the end of those three years. It almost toward the end of those three years where she will have to hold up to her promise. But not everything is as it seems including King's intentions toward her. At first we view him as a sort of villain, and there are flashbacks so at first you have a 'sketchy' feel to his character. You aren't sure where you stand on his character. However you slowly see how much he truly loves her. Despite how many times she lies to him or deceives him or breaks her promises, he never loses faith in his love and devotion to her. And when you find out the real truth, you sympathize with him. Our hero has been through hell and back, and he may seem all bad in the beginning, but the reader realizes that he is a hero you can get behind. Its a story of love and loss, of true devotion and commitment and even though there are some things that the characters take action on....you can't resist the pull of their love story and seeing them connect and find their HEA in the end. I was completely pulled in by this book, and I can tell you that this author is rare talent in creating a story you will fall head over heels for!!! The mixture of emotions that impacts the reader is stimulating and vivid and wrung me like a dish towel in heart wrenching ways but also in empowering and memorable moments. Definitely a book you don't want to miss out on. A SUPERB ROMANCE
When I first read the blurb to King's Captive, I was really intrigued with the story. It seemed like it would go one way but the readers are taken on a mysterious journey filled with engaging characters, hot chemistry and a HOT alpha male who was the perfect book boyfriend. I loved Julius!
Without going into details and spoilers, we know that Sarah is being held captive by Julius King on a beautiful island. But who is Julius King and what does he want with Sarah? I absolutely loved Julius. I thought he was protective and loving but also dark and mysterious. In addition, while I was frustrated with Sarah at times, I thought her and Julius were fantastic together. All in all, this novel had heart, hot sexy times, mystery and an alpha male you never want to let go.
I had never read an Amber Barden novel but after King's Captive, I plan to check out her entire catalog in the future. I would like to thank NetGalley and Carina Press for an advanced ebook copy of this novel for an honest review. 4 stars!
Great read, I was hooked from beginning to end. This story is filled with drama and suspense. I loved the story as well as the characters.
King's Captive by Amber A. Bardan will keep you swiping the pages on your Kindle. I couldn't stop reading and every free moment I had was spent reading this book over the last few days.
Compared the rest of the book, the beginning could be viewed as a bit slow but I was still engaged in the book and found that it quickly picked up.
Julius King is one complicated and sexy character. I was immediately captivated by him. He's just my kind of man I love in a book. Powerful, dominating, and rich.
Sarah is his captive and is living on his island with him. Unlike other books when you think of the word captive you might think of all sorts of dark and twisted things but in this book that's not the case but that doesn't mean he doesn't have the means to keep her in line.
Okay, so here's where my review becomes difficult because although this book was AMAZING...like I can't see how this book won't be in my top 10 at the end of 2017 it is impossible to go into any kind of detail without spoiling it for you.
There are twists and turns and jaw dropping moments throughout this story. I was thoroughly impressed with Amber. I can usually guess the twist or the surprise that pops up in a book but this one no way and when you think it's all over and things are settling down...nope.
So although I didn't really share much know that you won't be disappointed Julius and Sarah are some complicated characters that will surprise the hell out of you. I'm still thinking about them. If I have any criticism it would be that I wish the epilogue was longer but that's a personal preference and no way will I deduct any stars for it because the rest of the book makes up for it!
If you love a romantic suspense that has A LOT of suspense in it go get this book!
Definitely a unique and interesting romance. Good overall writing.
