This book was really long. I felt it dragged out a bit too but I did enjoy it. I honestly was scared to read it at first thinking it'd be a bit too over the top with bondage and too controlling. Yet...I coped. I really loved the characters. Enjoyed the story line. It was different. Yes he was controlling but not offensive. A new author for me again and I'll be looking out for more Amber Bardan books in the future.

King's Captive is my first book by author Amber Bardan. But boy does she know how to write a captivating story that definitely kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat!
I think the only thing keeping me from giving this book a higher rating was the fact that it took me a little longer then usual to get into it. But, I am glad I stuck with it- because it was worth it in the end.
First off to Amber A. Bardan...
This is the second book I'm reading from this author and I must say I'm wondering what I've been missing.
How this book felt? Well....
The author kept breaking my heart, only to stitch it back up and break it again. I don't want to give away too much, but geesh, how do I explain how good this book was?
Going into the book I expected for Sarah to be the girl who developed stockholm syndrome and fell in love with her captor.
Although she feels something for Julius, escape is always on her mind. But I wanted her to stay. Call me crazy, but I got really upset when she tried to leave the island.
Ok back up.... Julius...
He was soooo freaking sexy. It just oozed off the pages. The tattoos, the danger, and the dimpled smile. Sigh. He was a big mystery at first, but one thing you could tell, he genuinely loved Sarah (even if you can't understand why at first).
So as I was saying, I got mad when Sarah tried to leave. Julius freaking had a level of trust for her and was all
And Sarah was all
I wanted to slap her and scream
But whether she loved him or not, she was certainly attracted to him, and LET ME TELL YOU, their sex was hot, hot, HOT. Rough, gentle, and lets just say, Julius was a real giver. The actual sex took a while to come, but it fit the storyline. And there's a whole lot of scenes to tide you over.
Now from the previous book I read from this author, I expected a big plot twist. Even being the lookout for it, I never guessed the twist.
It was crazyyyyyyy, but made so much sense I wanted to smack myself for not seeing it earlier. Like I said, I don't want to give away too much (I hope I haven't), so I'll leave it at that. Great read.
I enjoyed King’s Captive it was full of intrigue, twists and chemistry that burnt through the pages. I look forward to reading more by this author
I was *completely* enthralled with this book, right until the secrets started to unfold. The suspense and the mystery was incredibly well built - and then it just fell totally flat. I was somewhat disappointed that we never had a sufficiently dramatic "click" - a moment where she remembered it all, and was swept away by emotion and memories. I felt the book went dry and staid, where it could have really opened up some huge emotional doors. Having found out that she was a mother (a MOTHER, she had a CHILD out there!!) she doesn't make any real effort to reunite with him. Weird. She doesn't seem particularly open to her husband either, after finding out he's been in love with her, fighting for her, protecting and yearning for her for 8 YEARS. Sure, brain injuries are a bitch - but for the sake of the epic romance that had been hinted at, could she not have expressed any deep feelings? Any heat? I felt myself resenting her for not appreciating what was right in front of her, and feeling bad for him in his unrequited love. More tragic than the love story that this story was meant to be - I felt the real tragedy was her apathetic response to such a heated beginning. I did not finish this book with warm-fuzzies :(
King’s Captive is aptly named, as it captures the reader from the very outset!
Deliciously dark, with intrigue, danger and combustible chemistry between the lead characters, this story has everything required to ensure a sleepless night.
Ms Bardan has penned a breathtaking story that I would happily recommend.
King's Captive.. the title drew me in for sure, then the synopsis. I'm a sucker for a dark read. This one sounded super twisty. I've been in the mood for those.
Julius is her captor. He took her and has had her for nearly 3 years. She knows the break or make moment is drawing near and is readying herself, only she's opening herself up to feel.
Memories flip through her mind and take you here and there. I got caught up in trying to figure the twist.
It is definitely something I never saw coming.
This book is definitely good. I think it could use a bit of fine tuning to weed out a few unnecessary parts or sharpen them to the readers appeal. I really enjoyed this one. The epilogue was just enough.
I loved this book so, so much. I haven't ever read anything from Amber Bardan but I will be reading more of her books.
It was not at all what I was expecting and because of that I feel like it's better for people to go in blind. So I'm not really going to write a full review.
I really loved the characters. I loved how Sarah handled being held captive. I feel like it's exactly what I would have done.. She was strong with out violence and she was just funny without trying. And freaking hell Julius. He just jumped to the top of my book boyfriend list. He was perfection and heartbreaking and just yummy :)
If you like your romances with a little bit of edge and one hell of a story line, PICK THIS UP! It's the best book I have read in 2017. It's that good.
